Wk of Mar 25--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi everyone!

Oh, the water stories! I have one. It involves New Years Eve right before going to a party, a toilet, a FIL trying to help but making matters worse, a plumber charging holiday fees, tempers, wet carpet in several rooms and a freaked out cat or two. ‘Nuff said.

It's been a while since I've posted as I don't feel worthy of you guys! You are all so speedy. I'm still struggling to get faster. :tiptoe: I don't seem to improve on my times much so I decided to change the way I "do things" to see if that helps.

As for XT, I've been doing strength training but I'm also adding some extras in - biking and walking up a mountain each week (Mt. Nebo for those of you familiar with Arkansas). There's a small group of us that meets every Thursday morning at 5am (ugh!) to walk up Nebo and it takes us about an hour and 20 minutes (5 mile round trip from the bottom). It’s usually dark at that time and we look like miners going to work with our headlamps. Going up is the killer - a bunch of hairpin curves – not much talking going on. Coming down, we usually jog and chit-chat. Jogging is actually much easier than walking down. I'm hoping this will help strengthen my legs and narrow my wide-screen behind. :earboy2:

Another XT exercise is riding my hybrid/comfort bike. Saturday, a friend asked if I wanted to join her little group and go on a 20 mile ride (I’ve never ridden more than 10). I thought....what the heck. She said there were a few minor hills but not to worry. (Hills are my weakness....especially on my hybrid bike). Those "minor" hills turned out to be rolling hills...some quite big and one hill right after the other.....for 20 miles. :scared: :faint: Ok, a few miles without hills but not many. I was ready to turn around after 4 miles but the gang wouldn't let me. They had to stop and wait for me a few times because my bike didn't handle the hills like their road bikes did. DH, one of the riders yesterday, has decided to fix up his old road bike for me to ride. I say old. It’s only 5 years old. Between the two of us, we have 6 bikes and only one of them is mine.

Yesterday, Sunday, I got on the comfort bike again…but it wasn’t so comfy this time….my behind was awfully sore from the day before. A friend had told us about a 4-mile mountain bike trail (on top of Mt. Nebo) that DH and I needed to try. I asked if there were any hills and the friend said that he couldn’t remember anything “major”. WRONG! It’s nothing but hills and some steep ones too! I had to get out and walk my bike up some of them. DH, with his mt. bike, made it fine but said it was tough. It was great exercise but I was too tired and sore from the day before to enjoy it. I’ve also learned not to trust anyone who says that there are only “minor” hills. :teeth: DH is going to try to fix up one of his old mountain bikes for me to ride. One good thing about the trail, the view of the valley is spectacular! I’ll have to take my camera next time.

As for my running/walking, I’m averaging about 12 miles per week right now. I’m still at about a 14.5 minute pace. I’m going to do a 5K in a couple of weeks and I’m afraid I’m going to come in last place. I know the saying – beats not finishing but geez, I want to be faster! I’m hoping some of this new XT will help. Of course, losing some weight would probably help too!

By the way, if you are still reading this, I saw “The Who” in concert last week. Very good! The old men still have it in them! :thumbsup2

Have a good week! Sending :wizard: to help those with injuries or under the weather.

just wondering....do you think that you can prepare to walk a 1/2 marathon in 5 months. Starting from square 1.....couch?? I know there are many plans out there for 16 weeks etc. How long does it take some of you seasoned walkers/runners?

thanks

Paul – Congratulations! Anastasia Isabel is adorable! I love that name!

Lisa – Congratulations to you as well! Can’t wait to see the pics.

Sunny – Another Oh, no! My heart goes out to you. You are one tough WISHer and I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Judy – Oh, geez! :wizard: for you. I have an appointment with a podiatrist on Monday. I’m afraid of some bad news as well. I’m afraid I may have Achilles tendonitis. Of course, this is self-diagnosis and you know what they say about that!

Terri – I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you and your niece to be able to run in the Nike Women’s half. I was amazed to learn that the registration closed in ONE DAY! One of my friends didn’t get in either. She decided to volunteer instead. Personally, I think she’s relieved that she doesn’t have to participate. :teeth:

Mike – How’s your dad doing? Glad his surgery went well. By the way, has your DW decided to join us for the marathon weekend next year? Also, the coaching sounds like a win-win situation for you. :thumbsup2

Calcio and others – You say, and I’ve read, not to increase your distance more than 10% each week yet the MfM does just that. I’m confused.

MelR – can’t wait to hear about your 24-hr run!

Stephanie – glad your knee is doing better! I thought about hooking up with the Little Rock runners. I need some marathon help and thought they might be a good source.

Leana – good news on the ankle. :cool2:

Minnie – glad you are having a good time at Disney. I like shopping there by myself. I usually send DH to the room so I can do just that.

Paul and others – I’ve often said the same thing about plumbers – I’m in the wrong business!

Jackie – 6 trucks?! Were the sirens blaring while approaching your house? Glad you didn’t have major damage.

Carrie – Woohoo! on the shirts! Thanks, again, for doing this for us! :thumbsup2 :yay:

I'm not a seasoned walker/runner but.....

Absolutely! (I say this with my fingers crossed.) I think the experts recommend that you have a good walk/run foundation before beginning a training program. I didn't and I still managed to do a half.

I basically went from couch to some exercising last August. I did go to a doctor to make sure I was AOK before I began training. On October 2, 2006, I began my training for the half-marathon at WDW in Jan. '07. I will say that it was tough because I never did any running before. I still can't run a full mile. Right now, I'm walking 3 minute/running 2 minute intervals. I had to work up to that. I used the Marathoning for Mortals 14-week Walk/Run plan by John Bingham and I pretty much followed it to a "T". I finished the half....I was slow....but I did it.

Looking back, I really needed to be in better shape before training (ie, lose more weight). However, I had no major health problems so I went for it and glad I did.

Good luck with your decision. You've come to the right place for help. The support here is tremendous. :thumbsup2

This weekend Phil, our neighbor John and I did the Sunflower 24hr. Adventure race in Lawrence KS. We got there on Friday evening for the prerace meeting. OUR HOTEL DID NOT HAVE AC!!!!! It was broken (Very bad as temps were mid 70's to 80's) At the meeting we got some of the maps for the 1st pt. of the race in addition to some coordinates. We were told the race would start at 7:00 am, but that we had to drop off our bikes to a staging area no later than 5:00am and that we would have to meet at race HQ no later than 6:00am to be bussed to race start. We left the meeting, went to the gro. store to get food and supplies and then went back to the hotel to prepare our backpacks, transition stuff and plot the points that we were given. We got to bed around midnight and set our alarms for 4:00am. Unfortunately, there were other racers who felt the need to get up earlier and were not that quiet, so w/ the no ac and loud people, we got about 3 hrs. sleep b/4 the race.

The race started just at a levee or dam on a small lake outside of town. We were to get 2 point on foot and then take off for a 17 mile paddle down the Deleware and Kansas Rivers. We had a little bobble on the 1st point and ended up only having 2 teams behind us when we put on the water. We really didn't stress as it was a long race and plenty of things can happen in that amt. of time. We passed about 20 teams on the water. The paddle was really long and my elbows got bruised from continually hitting them on the portage bar in the boat!! We did do some pretty good singing and chatting (the guys would not admit to that!) on the boat though. After the paddle, we transitions to a short (5k) run to the bike drop where we transitioned to bikes for a single track ride along the river trails. they were really fun!! When you race, a team should put the weakest rider in the middle on sections like these (that is me). We came to this one bump in the trail that was big enough that if you were moving fast you could catch air (which i do not want to do, but the guys live for it) Anyway.... Here is what that sounded like as we were riding in this order - Phil, me, John... " Wooo, Ahhhhhggghhh!!, Woo!!!!!" After that, we rode back into town via a levee (where i ran over a snake!) some boring gravel roads and one huge and very windy bridge. We rode some hills (I guess he found the only ones in Lawrence) back to race HQ and transitions for about 10k on foot through the city. We rappelled off a 7 story bldg, trekked through the KU campus and then came back to race HQ to get the maps and coordinates for the rest of the race. I think phil had a stomach bug, so he was feeling pretty badly and we took a long time to transition. After looking over the maps (i think it was around 2in the afternoon) we realized that we were going out on bikes ot a like about 10 miles outside of town and that we would need to carry our gear for the rest of the race including the bike gear, trekking gear, paddling gear, ropes gear and enough food and water or a way to filter! My pack got pretty heavy and b/c i brought my bigger pack I ended up w/ some of the team gear (medical kit) bc the guys packs were full. (we had to carry our shoes for the trekking leg so that took up a ton of space)

I got really tired riding out to the lake and I thought my quads could not ride anymore. We did kindof' scare a guy walking two tiny yappy dogs on the trail and he took off running to get out of our way. That gave me alot of pleasure for some reason. When we got to the lake, we padled 1.5 miles in the wind and waves to an area where we went out on foot to get 2 more points. We got back in the boats and paddled about 2.5 miles to go to another trekking section to get a couple of other points. By then it was dark and we had to paddle back to the transition. The lake was a shallow lake w/ lots of trees in the middle. It was a little hard to see them all in the dark and we did run up on a stump and teeter a little. Thankfully, we got the boat off w/o incident as the water temp was still in the 40's! After getting back to the trans area, we did an orienteering course (by then it was totally dark) After the orienteering, we were back on bikes where we got a couple of points at the lake and then we had to do more single track riding (i got scared trying to ride it in the dark!) The last point near the lake was at the spillway, where we had to carry our bikes across the river/stream and then do a 275ft. tyrollean (i think i spelled that wrong) back across w/ our bikes. That KILLEd my abs. I didn't slide very far down the rope b/4 I had to use my arms/abs to pull myself and heavy bike across! After we finished the traverse, we had 2 more points on the way back to the finish!! We finished just b/4 3am. That put us at just under 20 hours. We went back to the hotel room (where at that point we were too tired to care about the whole ac thing) and slept until 9:30am!! I think we came in right in the middle of the pack. that was pretty good as there were some very competitive teams there. I think when they finish the official results, we will move up a couple of spots as some teams did not get all of the checkpoints or took a time penalty and skipped the traverse. (not that it really matters) It was a pretty fun race. (except for Phil's stomach bug!) It rewarded pure speed more heavily than strong navigation skills. We usually do better on the races w/ more technical nav. the teams that won are good at both!!

At the race finish, I sat down for a while and talked to the race dir. I told him all about the wish team!!!! I was actually all excited everytime we checked into a manned checkpoint, as i figured that they reported the info on that web site and that some of you were watching!! Like I posted b/4, that made my race happier thinking about you guys and reading your comments when I got back just confirmed how wonderful the WISH team is!!

Quick drive by (I'm at work)
2 miles today (well technically yesterday).
4 pages of posts up since here last so I will have to catch up Wednesday on my day off.

Dave - Take care with the rump pain - You're way set for the Pig. Don't be afraid to take a couple of days off. You'll need the maximus of your gluteous for the Cincy hills.

Judy - Be smart and listen to Dr. HHBL. Hoping the MRI is negative!

Sunny - I hope your vertigo issues resolve quickly. I've been accused of being a little dizzy before (and have had an occasion or two of malt/hops induced vertigo :drinking1 ) but never anything unexplained. Take care.

Kelley - It was the National Marathon run in DC this past weekend. Probably too soon after Goofy next year but I might give the half a go in '08 if schedules allow.

Mel - Sorry but I've only read about IV Ibandronate. No practical experience. I was curious and looked up the price - about 4 pairs of Brooks a dose (but the PO ain't cheap either).

Melissa - Congratulations on the race - anxiously awaiting the report.
Oops - I see you posted while I was typing War and Peace here. Way to go! That sounds like such a challenge. You should be very proud!

Goofyguy Mike - Wow! Fabulous times keeping up with the younsters. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself and I'm sure the kids are lucky to have you.

Training has been going fine for me. I had another pressure packed run Sunday evening trying to get 9 miles in the 70 or so minutes while the DD's were at religious ed class. Last week as I walked out the door from DD6 classroom she shouts "Don't stink too much!!" Needless to say, this week I got quite a few "stinking" comments from some of the other parents.

Got some cross training in yesterday morning by tearing apart the treadmill to determine if I could actually put it back together again before ordering a new walking belt. It's all back together but I think we'll be better off just buying a whole new TM. Now I'll have to tear it all apart again to take it to the dump!

Ran 4 quick miles last night, 5 scheduled for today, then 18 :scared1: on Thursday. I think I'm tired already. Thank goodness Jen and Krista are making dinner for us all this week!;)

I got out last night and did 4.25 with a 10:33 pace. The weather seems to be heating up so it looks like my pace is dropping now. I enjoyed the brief time where I wasn't drenched after the first mile. Oh well, but we never were snowed in...:rolleyes1

Krista - Our house was built in 2000 so I would guess you have another year or two before things start wearing out. Then Steve can have the fun of attacking things. :rolleyes1 By the way, when is dinner? I don't want to get there too early. ;) I must have missed the sock thing, but I hope Hines is behaving now. How did the inserts work during yesterday's run?

Judy - Sorry to hear about your knee. I will say as well that it is much better not to push yourself and make it worse. There will be many Minnies but not too many knee surgerys. Athletes lose their careers from this injury because they try to get back too quickly.

Mike - Great job on the runs. Tearing apart a TM just to see if you need to get new parts, sounds right to me. Lynnda is cringing and ginving me an evil glare right now though. :lmao:

MelR - That sounds like a great race. Although I don't think I could do anything that has 20 hours of racing in it.

Bahamamomma - You could do it in that amount of time as long as you didn't try to push yourself too much. It is much easier though if you start earlier and get used to going out and doing distances.

Susie - Great job on your training. After living in Florida for a while I now have this perspective, anywhere that has a mountain nearby is going to have some pretty bad hills everywhere. Although our mountains are only 100' or so. :rolleyes1

Minnie - Glad you had fun at Disney. That sounds like a busy day.

Leana - We have AP's and this year we had a hard time getting good rates for the hotel. I called right after they came out and we only had the choice of All Star Sports or a deluxe. They do have good rates but you have to be really quick on calling. Glad you got the run in before all the snow comes. Although now it probably won't come since you are ready. ;)

Jackie - Wow, I've never had to call the fire department but 6 trucks. It must have been a very slow day. I bet your neighbors were wondering what exactly you were doing.

Carrie - Sorry to hear your run wasn't that good. Hope you injuries feel better soon.

GoofyGuy - Sounds like those kids were keeping you busy. If it doesn't kill you first, it should be good speed work.

Mel - I haven't seen any gators on my run yet. I tend to stay away from the canals and ponds where they might be. I just get cats, racoons and possums. Good job on being consistent with your runs.

Stephanie - Sounds like you had a good time at your clinic. It would be great if they can help you get ready for Disney.

Sunny - Sorry to hear about all the new problems. You definately have had more than your fair share. :grouphug: :wizard:

Christa - Looks like you had a busy weekend. Great job on all the training.

Kelley - Great job on your training while on a semi-vacation.

Jen - Hope your DD is feeling better and you are able to get a little sleep.

Have a good day everyone.

Bill

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I did a 30 min SWOG pirate: yesterday, and lots of stretching afterwards. It helped my sore left booty some. I think I have something going on with my piriformis muscle. I don't know if I pulled it, or if it's just overly fatigued. So I'm going to take it easy this week. I may stick with SWOGing until my 15k on Sunday. Except for my training with the princesses.

Sunny- Shoot, I hope the positional vertigo goes away soon, and it was just a problem with taking your neurontin a different time. :wizard: :wizard:

Judy- Oh no, I'm so sorry that your having ACL problems again. Get better soon, don't push it too much for Minnie. You can always go, cheer on your team mates, and get some spa treatments. :wizard: :wizard:

Stephanie- That's so great that you are going to your running clinic to support your friend. Wow, your running clinic sounds great. Where did you find them? Is it at your local running store?

Laurie- How'd the hockey x-training go?

Mel- Sounds like a great, easy run you had.

Melissa- Welcome home, get some rest. I really enjoyed following your race over the weekend, and I was telling DW about it. I must admit I did try checking once when the website had crashed. It wasn't my fault... Great race report - whew that race sounds tough.

Martha- Hope you can get your speed work in today.

Mike/Goofyguy- How cool you are the distance coach for the kids track team. Running with my daughters has been making me interested in getting involved with some coaching too.

Craig- That's a great story. I don't know if it will even take 10 years for the princesses to be passing me in a race. But to be honest, if they continue exercising and healthy habits from now I would be very, very happy.

Carrie- Sorry about your stonker run. Wow, sounds like you were getting soreness all over. Good for you for listening to your body.

Jackie- Yikes! :scared1: Scary story about the hot water heater.

Leana- Sounds like you had a great 4 miler. Good for you. How are you dealing with the snow? Did it come as expected?

Minnie- Sounds like you had a great solotrip to WDW. Yahoo!

Paul- Good to hear from you. Hope all is well at home.

Susie- Wow, that sounds like a great week of training. Good for you!

Andrew- Great job on your two miler.

Mike/Optimator- ha, thanks for the advice about taking a couple of days off. I think it's good advice. Great job on your pressure packed 9 miler. Boy that really keeps you moving when you have the kids to pick up afterwards. Wow, you really put in the miles. Are you running 4 days in a row? My legs would not tolerate that. It seems just running 4 days/week taxes them.

Just a quick drive by....

Judy--oh, no. Not the ACL. Take it easy, ok? We'll be praying that everything will turn out allright. And like everyone's saying--just plan on going down for Minnie regardless. That way you won't drive yourself batty wondering if you're still going to WDW.

Sunny--I hope you get better soon, too.

Melissa--great race report! You are crazy for doing those races. I still think of you as Miss Talk Radio, though, so don't ever change that, k? :thumbsup2

Dave--take it easy on that booty (never thought I'd say that to another guy). I know you already know this, but you're WAY far ahead for the Pig training. The rest will probably do you some good.

Ok, I have to actually get some work done today, so I may not be able to jump on here too much. Hope everyone has a great Tuesday! (except Kristin, who is probably already on Thursday or Friday over there in Japan. :) ).

Steve

Hi Everyone!

My brand new Ipod refuses to charge. I am crushed. I am off to call Apple and ask what to do.

All these water issues make me glad we are building a new house. Even if I do stay up nights with nightmares about cabinet choices.

Judy - Oh I am so sorry about the ACL. I can not imagine how you are coping. I hope it isnot as bad as they think and that you can recover quickly.

MelR- Whew! I got tired just reading your race report. You are amazing! My race report would have ended with " and thats where I sat down on the trails and cried until they took me home." Way to go!

Cecilia

Went to Curves this a.m for Xt

Judy=I am so sorry, I hope it is not as bad as they think. I agree, it is heartbreaking to not get to do an event you are really looking forward to but you need to make sure there will be not long term problems :wizard:

Carrie-Yea for the shirts!!!!! Thanks again for doing this!

Cecilia-oh no, good luck fixing the Ipod!

bahamamomma1- Yes you can do it! I found this group in July of '05 and by the end of the month I had registered for '06 1/2 marathon. I have NEVER been athletic & was a big couch potato. I used the Marathoning for Mortals training plan & it worked. I got my first Donald medal in Jan '06. Since then I have done 3 1/2 marathons & working on my 2nd 15k. If anyone would have told me 2 years ago I would be doing this I would have laughed hysterically at them (and that would have been the extent of my exercise for the day) this is a wonderful group and we will be here to support you all the way!!!

Off to work on some of this mess I call my house:rolleyes:

Good morning Team!! I am sooooo glad it's a taper back week. I ran in my inserts for the first time last night, let's just say my IT band didn't hurt, but everything else did! My shins, my calves, my feet, plus it felt like I was running with 20 lb weights strapped to my legs. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get used to running in inserts? I'm figuring the next 2 or 3 runs are going to suck. :) On the positive side, I ran 3 miles in 33:00 flat, I'm still about a minute off my desired pace, but I'm getting closer. And if anyone is needing a pick me up song to run to, download "Sandstorm", it's a dance song and you will literally fly when you run or walk to it. In the 4:00 minutes it was playing, I was running a 7:42 pace. :rolleyes1 Today is a xt day, I think I'm going to do the elliptical and then lift weights.

Judy--I'm thinking about you.

Melissa--Your adventure race is out of control! How in the world can you do that? I definitely think you and Phil would kick butt on The Amazing Race! Now get some rest!!

Dave--I completely forgot about the hills in Cincinnati. Definitely rest your booty now!

Stephanie--You are so lucky to have found such a great running community.

BahamaMomma1--Welcome! You can definitely do a half marathon starting from square one. When I started running in May 2005, I wasn't a runner at all. I ran a little bit in high school, but I hated it and only ran because my dad and older sister were runners. My husband Stephen (skfulkers) was a runner and signed up for the Disney marathon in 2006. We were looking at pictures of past marathons and I saw that marathoners came in every age, every shape, and every pace. On a whim, I signed up for the half marathon, I'm not sure what I was thinking. I started by just walking, I walked 2 miles a day like 4 days a week at 15:00 pace. I did that for about a month and a half. In the middle of July, I started the Marathon for Mortals half marathon walking plan and I think I did the first 5 weeks. That took me to the middle of August and I did the MfM half marathon walk/run until official training started Labor Day weekend when I did the MfM half marathon run/walk plan. I finished the 2006 WDW Half Marathon with time of 2:41 doing run 4 minutes/walk 1 minute. Since then I have finished countless 5K's and 10K's, 2 half marathons (2006 WDW and 2006 Flying Pig) and 1 full marathon (2007 WDW) and I'm training for 2 half's this spring and summer. It's completely possible to go from couch to marathoner in a matter of months, but its takes dedication, commitment, and support from family and friends. Good luck!

Carrie--I am so sorry your hip pain is back! Good for you for stopping, I use the 1 mile rule myself.

Mel--You mean you see alligators when you run???? :scared1: :scared1: What are you, the Crocodile Hunter?? Are they close to you? Do they pay attention to you? You are nuts!! :upsidedow

Mike/Optimator--"Don't stink too much"!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: We're having turkey bbq for dinner tonight, I'll be home late, so we're eating about 8:00. Should I set a plate? Tomorrow is black bean enchiladas, if you want to plan ahead. ;) :)

Bill--You're more than welcome to come too. Bring Lynnda and Billy, just don't expect me to deliver the baby if Lynnda goes into labor!! By the way, do you have a name for bambino yet?

Martha--Don't you love the whole "we'll be there some time between 8:00-8:00"? Drives me nuts! Hopefully they'll get there soon and your day won't be shot.

Leana--Awesome 4 miler! I'm like you, I get pains and then I think "is that real? Did I imagine it? Does it hurt because I think it's going to hurt?" Yeah, I'm pretty mental, but harmless. ;) Did you get the predicted snow?

I know I missed people, but it's taken me forever to type this, so I better just post and then come back later and get everyone I missed!

  Hooray, my treadmill is fixed and the repairman only charged $45. to repair it :cool1: :cool1: I'm back in the walking w/out obstacles (like snow).lol

Good morning everyone!

Judy - Sorry about your knee. Take care of yourself.

Sunny - Sorry to hear you're feeling poorly. Take care of yourself.

Carrie - Thanks again for doing the shirt order. :)

Mike (Optimator) - "Call the man!" :rotfl:

Craig - How's the toe?

Bill - Great job on the run.

Dave - Take care of that booty.

Jen and Krista - What's for dinner!?

MelR - Great race report.

Cecillia - Sorry to hear about your Ipod.

Mike (goofyguy) - Coaching the kids, cool deal. :thumbsup2

I have to meet the AC man at 1130 so he can do the yearly maintenance on the system. Gots to have a working AC system. I'm delicate. ;)

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday. :)

Sigh....big fluffy white flakes just started falling. At least I got my run in last night! Guess today will be a weight training day.

I needed motivation to get out and run so I came here! I'm going to the Y while my kids gym & swim. Gonna do 5 miles on the treadmill. I wish they had an outdoor track.:sad2:

Craig- I'm glad the cards are coming out. I need mine to post on the fridge for motivation. You must be so proud of DD! It's so nice to see so many fathers supporting their DD athletically!

Mel- I can't imagine running knowing there are gators near by. I once stepped on a dead snake during an evening run. It curled up around my foot and ankle when I stepped on it. I think I broke the world long jump record at that moment. Some people came out of their homes to see what all the screaming was about.:scared1:

Jen-hope DD is feeling better.

Judy & Sunny- Speedy recovery!

Minnie- Glad your solo trip was fun!

MelR-Great report!!

BahamaMomma1- You can do it! Completely ignorant of any sensible training knowledge and having never run before I signed up for Team in Training in June of 1998 with my first 'run' of 1 mile on June 21 and completed the Disney full marathon in January. It took me about 5 1/2 hrs but I finished! I felt like h-e-double hockey sticks afterwards but was so proud that I kept at it. I would suggest trying the half first though.

Have a great day!
Kiena

Carrie--I am so sorry your hip pain is back! Good for you for stopping, I use the 1 mile rule myself.
lol. I told Scott I was oging to go to the 1 mile mark, but it just started to worry me more and really hurt, so I turned around early. ;) I really don't thin kit's my hip for real. Just maybe a warning sign. Hope you get used to your inserts soon!

Melissa - Wow. I think I realized I could never do it when it said you had to cross through wast deep water to get to teh first check point, or something. Yikes. Of course, Scott thought it sounded like fun. I cannot paddle to save my life, though.

Mel - That's why I put up with winter here. ;)

Leana - So sorry about the snow! I know we coudl stil get some, but I'm really hoping we dont' It's so cruel to have snow after such nice weather.

Monica - Congrats on teh cheap TM repair!

Cecilia - Ugh! I hate it when my new toys don't work. I have a very cute ppink bluetooth headset, but I'm afraid it may just be for looks. :p Good luck with the iPod!

Vic - rotfl!! FOrgive me, but delicate is not a word I think of when I think of Big Vic. ;)

Tiff - I have a house like that too. I may even have guests this weeknd. DOn't know that it will be looking liek a house by then. Ugh! I can sympathize!

DAve - Good job on teh SWOG. I'd say my pool's too cold for that yet, but it appears to be empty, Not a good sign. Add new pool liner to the list. We did pass a milleage fro a new aquatic centerat the HS that's practically across the street from us last year. Hope that get's built soon.

Andrew - Good job on teh 2 miles!!!

bahamamomma - Welcome to WISH! MfM recommends a year of "moving" 30 minutes, 3 times a week before starting to train fo a full or a half. As you've seen, though, many of us have not followed that. If your doc says ok, then here's what I'd recommend. 1. FInd a plan Like one of the 16-week ones). 2. Make a plan to get slightly above the starting point of that plan. 3. Make sure your mileage does not increase by more than 10% per week. 4. Listen to your body VERY carefully. Too much too soon could set you back an enormous amount. While this can be done, you have to really dedicate yourself to it. Understand the time committment it takes to do this without getting hurt. That being said, if you're up to the challenge, we're here to help you along the way.

Disnut - I LOVE YOUR "AVATAR"!!!! That is one of my favorite shows. I was a little dissappointed w/ the season ender though. I thought Zuko would make a better decision!! That is so nerdy that a 37yo would like a cartoon so much, but I admit it, i do. I'm also quite the spongebob fan.

Sunny - Sorry about the BPV. I remember phil telling people to lay down on the floor on thier back and then sit up quickly turning their head to the side. I think he said you do that unitil you no longer feel the vertigo. (i think that was it????) I hope you catch a break soon

Judy - So sorry about the knee!!!!!!

Susie - I have wanted to ride those trails. I have some friends who rode them this weekend. They also did the old post trails which they said were really fun!

Ceclia - I loved the quot4e about sitting down on the trrail and crying. That sounds pretty good to me.
