Wk of June 3--WISH Walking/Running Club

OMG, too much to catch up on!

I had a WIcekdly fun weekend! DId a lot of walkign and am getting used to teh new lift, but it really feels hard in my shoe and like I'm tipping over. Weeknd was great, though!

Mel - :lmao: Yeah, I'll be an olympian soon. :lmao: Glad you made it through Barry ok. SOrry it slowed you down so much!

marathonmommy - Please stay and let us get to know you and see how yrou training is going!

Lily - Great pic! You look fabulous!

DId someone call this a "serious traning thread"????? (Mr. NEBill?) Yeah, we might have started off that way, you'd have to ask Lily or anyone who was pre-2005. However, I tdon't think we ever fully recovered from taper madness in 05. At least that sounds liek a good excuse to me. ;) The support is serious, but that's about it. ;)

I know, I missed a ton of you. I'll try to make up for it during the week.

Greetings WISH and YARC Team members - :upsidedow

This morning, since it was pouring rain but that's OK because we really need it, I did 3 miles on the TM while watching Silver Streak. Geez, that Gene Wilder is funny! :lmao: Saturday I did three miles on the TM also, but only because we had so much going on I didn't really have time to do an outside run. But I REALLY pushed myself, I mean REALLY. I was pretty much shot for the rest of the day. Which was too bad, because I had an awful lot to do.

This week has been and will continue to be an emotional rollercoaster for me. Yesterday it was three months since Logic passed away and today would have been her 24th birthday. :sad1: Saturday coming up is our second anniversary. :bride: It's a very sad and happy week.

Nepatsfan - I see on last week's post that you failed to mention the fact that I am the President of the You Ain't Right Club. Well, now, I'll have to think about this little indiscretion, won't I? :rolleyes1 Hey, you're in CT? I might not be that far from you... We are about four minutes from Ridgefield.

Monte
- Congratulations, grandma! :yay:

Mel - Oh I thought of you and all our other WISHers in FL yesterday when I saw Barry coming in. Crazy squirrels!

WWDave - What? Me? :confused3 Get into trouble? HA! Never happen. ;) Those times are for walking??? Wow, color me impressed! I too need to do something to improve my flexibility. We have several good yoga DVDs, but, well, it just never seems to happen.

Vic - A lit match and a pitchfork! Whatsamatta? Haven't you ever seen Young Frankenstein!? Another Sunday, another race, hu? I can't find any 5 or 10ks around here. Seriously, I have really been looking. Guess that's what we get for living in the sticks.

Dave - Excellent job on your L/R this weekend! :thumbsup2

Lily - Oh what a cute picture! :cutie: Come on now, Lily. Looking at you in that pic, no one is going to believe you are a senior! Geez, I live in New York and I've never been to Niagara Falls.

Krista
- Well, if you don't do it, you'll still BE THERE, right? :yay: I think Lily has a great idea.

Paul - Glad to see you again! Oh I hope you can figure out a way to come in January. We need an official WISH babysitter.

Hi folks! Just popping in to say hi! Have to keep getting my Dis fix.:)

I know a lot of folks have made up ways of displaying their medals. I saw this ad at the top of one of the Dis threads I was reading. It's a new company called athlete furniture. I was curious and clicked the link. They don't have a lot of stuff yet, but they did have a medal display rack.
If anyone's interested, the address was www.athletefurniture.com

Happy training!:)

Terri

Hi all! Happy Monday morning!!! :flower:

Well I got out early to beat the heat today. I had a 50 minute run and did the last 1/4 of it on hills and it felt pretty good. (I ended up running a 5K this weekend at the last second and had a PR; it was a hilly course but very nice. I'll try to post a race report on the race thread.)

So I cool down and go home and start working around the house. DD gets up (finally) and doesn't want to go on a run. (Remember the drama from last week?) She says it's because there are guys out working on the road. So I told her to get dressed and ran 25 minutes with her as well. She was pretty whiny and kept wanting to quit, but I played the mean mom  and kept her going. I even got her mad enough to sprint at the end so she could beat me! She's either going to thank me one day or end up in therapy. :confused3

Happy training, all!
Renee

Wish me luck tomorrow because I'm going to see a chiropractor about my left heel.....I'm not going to w/out til I know what's wrong.

MOnte: Pixie Dust to you:wizard: Hope all goes well.

Renee: WTG on getting DD out for a run. I am sure she is glad she did.

Judy: Great workouts:woohoo:  For Logic

Carrie: Glad you enjoyed your weekend away!!!!

Megan: Wahooo for more disney time:cool1:

Krista: Wow great workout!!!!!

Caught up with the morning posts....sorry to all the others I missed

Kim

Krista--yeah, DH and I are "following" the Novice I Higdon plan as well. I seriously doubt that when the LR start going over the 13 mile or so distance that I will keep with his Wed. run schedule. The week of the 20 mile LR, you are supposed to do 10 miles on Wed--total week mileage= 40miles!!!! WTH!! Anyway, well, with ToT so close to Columbus that would be a no-go for us. Can't swing 2 trips so close together--that's why we aren't doing RFTT. Oh well, we'll see ya'll at ToT, right? Oh, yeah, we're partying at your studio. ;)

Did 3 miles on the TM and then 30 min. of weight training. Hoping to get to yoga tonight as well. So much for a rest day!:rotfl:

Any of you run in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7s??? I have the 6s and love them, but have read terrible reviews on RRS about the new version (2.5 out of 5 stars) Just wondering if any of ya'll had experience with them.

Neat shelf! I had a wooden curtain rod that I wasn't using, had MIL saw it up to the size I needed. I plan on filling it! With Disney medals! YIPPEE!

MONTE- I hope it goes well for your heel. The chiro put my heel in last time I went too. It was feeling odd, kind cool & tingly. He adjusted it. I never knew there were things to adjust in the heel.

Stephanie- I just ordered the Brooks Adrenaline 7's (shoebuy.com w/20% off code) but haven't got them yet. I've been using the 6's, I hope I like the 7's. I wonder what people have against them.

Training news: I got in 3.5 miles yesterday (TM) and 4.4 today outside. Today was the first day for me to do W3/R1. I did it 8 times. By the 7th time, I was getting tired. I guess it will take me a while to build up my running stamina. I'm going to try to run/walk the RFTT, and the half.

I was going to get to do a local 5K with my friend that I've been encouraging to walk, but she broker her foot! I would do it by myself, but I think I'll save that money for Disney racing.

Oh, and Stephen safely made it to the gym after running there from our house--11.46 miles. He has a really funny story that I hope he has time to get on here and tell everyone. When he told me, I was literally laughing so hard, I was crying.

I'm pretty busy and I was going to wait till tonight to post so I could make sure to catch up with everyone, but I'll give you the 30 second version of the story (by the way, I didn't think it was THAT funny, but then again, this is coming from two people who find most of their amusement from a 2 year old labrador, so anyway....).

I decided to mix up my LR running route a little this weekend and meet Krista at the gym for a workout, so I mapped out the course on Google Earth and figured it was about 11.5 miles to the gym from our house (I was close, it ended up being 11.46). As I was packing my fuel belt for the run, I realized we were out of Gatorade mix, and I was bummed because it was hot outside and I really wanted to throw a couple of gatorade bottles onto the belt along with the water. I asked Krista if she thought Coke would be a decent substitute for Gatorade, since it has a good amount of calories and I know some triathlete coaches recommend it for long distance triathlons. So....I filled two of the 6 ounce bottles with Coke and headed off on my run. Well, I hadn't thought about the fact that running with Coke on a fuel belt is like taking a 12 ounce can and shaking it constantly for miles on end. About a mile into the run, one of the bottles suddenly popped the "sippie top" and blew Coke all over my face, shirt, shorts, leg, socks, etc--pretty much my entire right side. Not to mention I was right in front of a house with people sitting on the front porch. I don't know if they saw me or not, but if they did, I didn't want to acknowledge it. So after I stopped and wiped myself off the best I could (nothing like starting a nice long run sticky from Coke head to toe), I had to stop every half mile or so and slowly pull the top on the Coke bottles to relieve the pressure build up. I ended up spraying myself twice more while trying to relieve the pressure.

Long story short--don't put highly carbonated beverages in your fuel belt for a run. :sad2:

Ok, enough of that. I'll do a real post tonight and try to catch up with everyone.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Steve

OK, Steve, I've been waiting for this all morning, since Krista told us you had a good story. And she was right! :lmao: It was worth waiting for!

Ewwww, I can't imagine how sticky and gross that must have been.

But, oh man, I wish someone had taken a picture. The look on your face...

OK lesson learned. No packing rum and cokes. Wait until we are finished for the carbonated beverages. :drinking1

Steve - FOrgive me, but that's the funniest thing I've heard of in a long time!!! Two intelligent people not thinking that one through quite enough. I never saw your story heading that way. Yup, we woud do that too. So sorry about the sticky run! Thanks for given me a smile today, though!:goodvibes

Steve - sorry, but :lmao: !
Reminds me of my days doing QC at the Pepsi plant while in college. Every now & then the line would back-up / explode and you would get hit with a tidal wave of soda. You always prayed that it was at least diet soda (no sticky sugar). :rotfl:

I wonder if it is OK to run with a Pina Colada?? No carbonation there:rotfl:

Steve- That's a great story! :lmao: :lmao: WTG :thumbsup2 Good job on your 11.5 miler.

So tell me how do you all feel about running in the pouring rain? I missed saturday and it's coming down in buckets right now. As of right now I plan on running but in the back of my mind I"m really starting to question my sanity.

poppinspal - I don't think I've ever started int eh pouring rain. If it starts while I'm running. so be it (as long as it's reasonable warm outside). Just don't see myself starting in a downpoor, though. BTW, if you choose to, it's dedication, and perhaps a lifetime mebership to the YARC. No one her ewill question you!

monica - Belated congrats on a being a grandma! Good luck with teh foot!

I told you guys Stephen's story was :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: . Could you even imagine sitting on your front porch, seeing someone run past your house, and then see a stream of brown liquid flying up from their waist? Those people probably were like :confused3 :confused3 . It never occured to Stephen or me that the Coke would explode like that!

Megan--Personally, if it's pouing buckets of rain, I just stay inside and either wait for it to pass, xt, or bag running for the day. It's nice to get a run in with not so favorable conditions, in case you have to deal with that on race day, but if you aren't really training for anything or if you are training for something far off in the future and it's just a regular run, I wouldn't worry about getting it in. If you feel guilty about skipping a run, you can blame me! :)

Steve--:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Just a note--the same thing happens to sippy cups with kids--I filled DD's cup up with Sprite, and she proceeded to shake it all up--spewed right up out of the top all over my car (at least it wasn't on me!)

poppinspal--I have run in a torrential downpour before (16 miles to be exact) and it was cold. It wasn't the ideal condition, but it was bearable. If it's just an easy run day, I say stay home. And if there is any lightening or thunder, definitely stay indoors!

Steve - Thanks for the :lmao: That's something I could see myself doing, too.

Terri

I think God (or whatever higher power you believe in) is keeping himself entertained at my expense. I had just read the responses here and decided I was running rain or not because I'd feel too guilty when it just stopped raining. It went from sheets of rain so bad you could barely see to nothing...

Carrie-I'll let you know what the weather is when I finally get my run in after work. By the time I get out maybe it will be snowing and I"ll really seal lifetime membership in the YARC. (Although if it snows in June I'm definitely moving out of New England!!!)

Krista-My goal is ToT then the Mickey so I've got time to deal with the unfavorable weather plus it's a small run. I think the guilt would get to me even if I tried to blame it on you! But thanks for being so willing to take that responsibility for me. :thumbsup2

Stephanie-If there's lightening or thunder I think my bf would tie me down so I wouldn't leave the house. As it is he'll think I"m crazy for considering running in the rain. So no worries on that front.

All this talk of exploding soda makes me wonder if one of those shows like Myth Busters or something along those lines could find a safe way to run with soda.

Megan
