Wk of June 3--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good afternoon TEAM!! I'm getting ready to head to the gym for a brick workout--bike and elliptical and then lifting. Stephen has a brilliant idea of running and meeting me there--the gym is 11.5 miles from our house. We'll let you know how that goes. Okay, call me crazy, but I'm seriously thinking about running the Columbus marathon on 10/21. I want to run one more marathon before we start our family, plus Stephen's running it, so I'll already be up there. I really want to run the United States Air Force Marathon at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH, but that's on 9/15, so I think it's too soon. If I run Columbus, I don't have to start training for another couple of weeks, so I have a little time to think about it. The only down fall to running Columbus, is I won't be able to run WDW. We'll definitely be there, but I don't think I can run a marathon in October and then run another one in January. I blame Runner's World and their article on marathon training for this!!!!!!
GIRL! I dont know what runners world says...but you can totally do a marathon in October then WDW...I did It! I also did a marathon 3 weeks b/4 I ran Goofy in 06.....YOU CAN DO IT!

Okay . . . so if I do this, is anyone else out there significantly overweight and/or do a sub-penguin pace (I'm talking between a 6 and 7 hour marathon)? I'd want someone to "crawl" with!!!!!!!!!!!

Rest day for me today as I got off work at 7:15 this morning.

MONTE Congratulations Grandma!!!!!

Loved POTC!!!

KRISTA you most definately can do WDW!!!!

Erica

marathonmommy-if I manage to lose a serious amount of weight before January, I will happily participate at that point being only of a significantly overweight stature. My goal for 2008, however, is the half marathon, so I would not be able to pace you in the full. (Do you have plans for January 2009 yet? Maybe we could pace each other in the Goofy Challenge.). My current pace is just above slug. (I'm still petitioning the IOC and International Track Federation for a doping test on the slug that out "sprinted" me last week. Does YARC have a doping board? Oh wait, I guess that would be redundant.)

There are plenty of 6-7 hour marathoners out there, and here!
I would be in that category if I ever try to do the Full.

JUST DO IT!

That means you too, Krista! Listen to the other Christa, woman!

Marathon Mommy... ME ME ME... I am hoping for a 6 hour marathon. This will be my first and maybe only. There are lots of Penguins on the board. You will NOT be alone during the Full!

Krista--you can SO run a marathon in Oct and in Jan! Okay, maybe I'm just saying that to make my venture of a Sept 29th marathon and WDW sound okay. But you are more than welcome to join in my madness!! when in Oct is Columbus anyway??? We are planning to head up to Akron for the Marathon on the 29th of Sept, but maybe we could delay our trip a couple of weeks and do Columbus instead?????

Oh, I forgot to mention in my previous posts that I had a ball yesterday spending my bday money at the running store. they had a rack of 30-75% off stuff--got some Pearl Izumi shorts and top along with some new socks and still have some $$ leftover. And I heard from FIL yesterday and he's sending some bday moolah this week, so I think new shoes are in order as well!

And for any ya'll ladies on the fence about if you should get a skirt and who to get it from--skirtsports are wonderful!!! I ran in my new rollergirl this morning and it was so great (much nicer than the Target version) But darn it all, there were no construction guys out this morning to whistle at my cute little self jogging by--a hit to my ego!:rotfl:

Marathonmommy, there are a lot of WISH warriors who are 6 to 7 hours for the marathon. Are you running or walking? There are runners, walkers and run/walkers on the WISH team.

If you are, as you said, carrying a little extra fluff then walking is much easier on your joints and every bit as good an exercise as running. Erica and I are walkers and so are several of the others.

Hi,
I was thinking I would walk. I ran the 1/2 in 2003 and tried to walk/run the full in 2005. It was hot and horrible, and I barely made it walking. I've had three knee surgeries, so I thought I should walk so I don't wind up really messing myself up! Are you a very fast walker? Most walkers could pass me when I was running!

Erica and I do the Disney events together and she doesn't allow us to go to fast there. She says Disney is about fun and the experience not the time.

Sounds like I will need to find some more people like you and Erica! How do you hook up with other WISH runner/walkers once at the event?

Looking forward to lurking some more. I'm really leaning toward doing this! Thanks for the feedback!

We arrange for meeting places prior to the events. Then when you go to the events you can't miss our florecent yellow/green shirts. Or just look for the coolest, smartest and best looking people there. Or you could just look till you find someone that you think "That guy just ain't right", that will be us.

This little emoticon :cool1: is dressed in wish colors.

Dave :hippie: "YARC"

marathonmommy--please don't just lurk around these parts. We want to hear about your training, life going's on, etc. We are a chatty bunch, so don't feel like you need to respond to us all. And like Dave said, you can't miss the WISH t-shirt! There will be events planned for the marathon weekend to meet up with other teammates other than race day.

Okay, so today is the first day of my 18 week marathon training. Boy that sounds like a LONG time--but I remember from the last time that it went by in a flash. Now that I think of it, I will be training from now until January. Jump right from one race to the other. Today is supposed to be a rest day, but I have to run on Monday's b/c I have to normally take Tues or Thurs off.

Have a great Monday all!

marathonmommy you are more than welcome to join us during the marathon!!

WWDave has this habit of "getting in a zone" and speeding up alot faster than I go. I have a blast watching him go while I just keep plodding along! He eventually realizes that I am not next to him and slows down!:rolleyes1

Krista - add me to the list of people who say you can do a marathon in October and again in January. For my first Goofy, I did the Duke City Marathon (my first ever) at the end of October and then did the Goofy the following January. It is very possible.

I have been training, averaging about 20-25 miles/week. Still have not signed up for any of the WDW events yet. Debating if I should go as a solo trip, or if I take my 3 year old DD. My wife will not be able to take the time away from teaching this year. If I take DD, how do I get someone to watch her while I run, especially if I do the Goofy through one marathon tour operators. Maybe I do the full this year instead of the Goofy, but doing three consecutive Goofy's would definitely qualify me as a member of the YARC.

My soon-to-be-three-month-old daughter is still a bit colicy, but she is getting better.

I promise to post a pic of my wife's Mickey marathon tattoo when she gets back home. She and the kids are in New Jersey through Friday visiting her grandmother.

Hope all is well with everybody.

Paul

Sorry just a quick drive by as I am already at work. DH is off work today so totally threw off my morning.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I am planning 2M for tonight. I just hope the weather holds out so I can get it done outside but will be on the TM if I have to.

Have a great day all.

Good morning Wish team!!! Happy Monday! I had an awesome workout last night at the gym, I did the bike for 15 minutes, the elliptical for 23 minutes and then lifted for about 30 minutes. The bike totally kicked my butt, I did the random hill program, at first I was thinking to myself "this doesn't feel any different than the manual programs". Until I started feeling the burn in my quads!!! There were points I was pedaling as hard as I could and doing 88 rpm's and then as I crested the "hill" and started coming down, all of a sudden I was doing 120 rpm's. It was such a great workout for my legs, I think I'm going to do the hill program more often. And my arms are killing me today, I don't usually lift with my arms, just my legs, but I want to start toning, plus having a stronger upper body makes distance running a little easier. I did the arm extension and the arm curl--both really light weights, I think 20lbs each, but it was enough! My pectoral muscles are letting me know that they were worked yesterday! Oh, and Stephen safely made it to the gym after running there from our house--11.46 miles. He has a really funny story that I hope he has time to get on here and tell everyone. When he told me, I was literally laughing so hard, I was crying.

I'm going to think about running both Columbus and WDW. I'll probably sign up for WDW, but if I am pregnant by then, I doubt I'll run or even walk the marathon. It's just not worth the risk and if the weather is anything like this past January, being out there for 6 or 7 hours would definitely be a risk. I really wish I would have thought of all this a couple of weeks ago, then I could have run the Columbus full and WDW half! But I'll sign up anyway, because as we all know, certain things take time and the chances of me being pregnant by January is probably not real high.

Christa--Maybe *you* can do marathons only weeks apart, but you are a much better runner than me!!! But thanks for the vote of confidence! :thumbsup2 How did your shows go this weekend?

Stephanie--Columbus is Oct. 21. Come and run it with us! You know, I looked into running the Akron marathon because we're only about 3 hours from Akron and Stephen's sister lives there. Until I saw the 6 hour time limit. I don't anticipate it taking me 6 hours to run a marathon, but I didn't anticipate I would get hurt during the WDW marathon and it would take me 6:27 either. I like having a time buffer there in case I need it! One more ? for you, are you doing Hal Higdon's plan? I think I'm going to do the Novice 1 plan, but modified--I do NOT want to run a 10 miler in the middle of the week! The only thing I don't like about his plans is there is only 1 xt day. I might have to either do only day of rest and do 2 xt days or on the first running day of the week, when it's relatively low mileage, xt in the am and then run in the pm. I am so prone to knee injuries, I need all the xt I can get! I also am not crazy about running 3 days back to back, I'll have to rearrange that too!

Marathonmommy--There are a lot of people who run or walk marathons in the 6-7 time frame! Please come and join us and start posting more often!

Have a great day everyone!

Morning all!

No running to report today as I missed my run on Saturday. Of course that makes me more determined to run today on this nice raining buckets day.

So my cousin wants to leave for ToT late Wednesday night instead of Thursday which would require two days off instead of the one that leaving Thursday would take. Add to that the Marathon weekend in Jan. and I'm finding I'd use up all my vacation time before I accrue more next July! Oh well I suppose it's worth it for time in disney!
