Wk of July 6 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Oh really!!!!! Do you know what weekend it is next year??? I don't recall is it always on Labour Day Weekend!!!

I think it is always on Labor Day weekend so it may not work out after all. You can maybe PM CreativeBeth as she has made this an annual for her. I think we may even have Dave and Erica for company too....especially if you and Mike go!!!!!

well I was just thinking if Mike didn't want to go cause of Labour Day I could go alone, but if there is a group going he will definatley be in.

Maybe we can convince Robert and Linda to make the trek east to do the event as well:goodvibes

Thanks Lisa for the input. Looks like a awesome event and I love the bling!!!!

Ugh. I fell liek I'l never catch up. Wanted to over teh weekend, but we had no internet adn our phones sound liek we are trying to call someone on MArs. DOn't worry, though. ATT is on it. After 30 minuteson teh phone, tehy did a line check. Now, we can't hear anythign at all. Nice. They willl have a tech out on Wednesday btwn 8 am and 8 pm to try to fix it, though. I just love dealing with utilities. At least cable gives you a window that 's 2/3 smaller.

We did teh Hungry Duck Half MArathon Friday. Very hilly course. However, it was cool adn the course was 90% shade. My legs decided to try to keep up with dh aindtead of lagging back and wondering when he'd ntoice. OMG! We has a 2:25 with a pace of 11:08. Oyur 2nd best time!!! Woo hoo!! Met some nice people too! Very good time.

Being teh smart runners we are, when we got home at 9 pm Friday, we decieded to bike 4 miles one way to a place to see fire works. We hurt Saturday am, but not enough to keep us from doing a 30 min swim (which menas a 30 min row too) and 60 min on teh bike, which ended up more. Ow, Sat adn SUnday I was sore, but I made great progress on my swim (I can sort of do a crawl w/o drowning), so I'm happy. yesterday was a much needed rest day. Today is 60 or 45 on the bike and then 15 to 20 min run. (We are cutting or runs short to make up for killing them last week)

Kristi - :grouphug: Hope things are better for the family adn #3 did not hit!

Tracy - SOrry you were so lonely last week! ;)

Jen - Glad you are feeling better!

Cam & Howard - Welome back!

Sorry for all that I've missed!

Kim - Good to see you again! FYI, DL was not on Labor Day teh first year, but was last year adn is this year. That's why I can't do it. :(

Monica - First, you deserved that medal, It's a heck of a race. Second, sometimes teh lsessons we learn frm our races adn work outs prove incredibly valuable. SOunds liek you learned a big one. DOesn't help now, but in teh future you may be grateful for that elesson. :grouphug:

Claire - I'm worried. Please be careful. If you were nautious, that was heat exhaustion. Way to close to heat stroke fo comfort. Please be careful and don't push in the heat.

Bryan - Welcome! For those of us who have already done narathons or halves, you shoudl knwo tha twe live through reading about teh first times of others. SO, we love hearing from you! SOUnds like you have an awesome base already. While I can't give exact times, as long as you don't push too hard adn injurre yourself, you will get faster, You may need to do soem intervcals to get there, though. Maybe do some 30 to 45 min work outs where you push hard for 4 min adn walk one or take it very easy for one. Have you read MArathoning fo rMortals? Many of us swear by that. The intervals in tehre will help with your speed. Just give it soem time, though.

To all teh sweaters ;), I feel for you! DOn't know how you do it!

I know, I'm still missig a bunch of you. :( :grouphug:

Good afternoon everyone!

Carrie - Wow! Nice job on getting in all those miles! (note to self, get moving)

Duckie - How much chicken??? Maybe you can find a local 5K to put on the calendar.

Lisa - RNR Va Beach in 2009 sounds like a great idea! We looked at it for this year but it's 3 weeks after the Chicago 1/2 so had to pass.

Hey there to everyone I've missed.

Had a good time camping in Amish country. Got in a short walk and ride - have to watch for, um, obstacles in the road due to the horse and buggies. Yesterday took it easy in the morning then weeded, mowed and cleaned the garage. Went to see Wall E after dinner. Today is my bday but at work (boo) and DH has a computer gig after dinner so will likely just head to the gym (weather is iffy).

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hello WISH buddies!! I am back from the dead! ;) Attempting to get my mojo back.. Hello, my name is Morgan, and I've only run once since returning from vacation... three weeks ago. :scared: I AM going to get out there today.. even though it's like 90 degrees and my confidence is at a -15.... :rolleyes1

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend; I supported the economy (aka, I shopped... a lot...)

Carrie, great time on your half!! Woohoo!!

Hi Team!

I only have a few minutes, so I just wanted to pop in and say hello. I hope everyone had a nice, safe 4th.

Kudos to everyone for getting out there in the heat of the summer! :cheer2: This weather can be so tough to run in.

Unfortunately, I haven't run in almost a week. I'm not sure what I did or how I did it, but I have this annoying pain along the back and side of my thigh and behind my knee (and sometimes it extends down to midcalf) . DH and I are going away this weekend for a relaxing getaway, so I'm hoping that rest will help.

Have a great week everyone! :goodvibes

Checking in. Surgery was June 19th. I've had some complications arise from the surgery so I've been feeling a little down. I don't know when I'll be able to run again, but doc seems optimistic. I told him I just had to be running by September so I can start training for the Half. I'm so swollen I can barely move and I've had some serious scary wound issues. Very discouraging. I knew going in the risks, but when something happens to you that is supposed to be a chance of 1% and in smokers it is a little mind boggling. I definitely don't smoke!

Funny, did my left quad use to hurt? With all my other aches and pains that pain has become almost unrecognizable. My left thigh went numb from surgery. I think I'll still be able to run on it, but I have this muscle in it that tenses up almost like a charlie horse. That might be a problem...

DH has been really great and kids are now officially home after going back and forth to the grandparents for awhile to give me a break.

DH is still running, just did the Peachtree. He's become really fast, although his Peachtree time was kinda slow for him. (Fast for me, though!) He said he'd do whatever I needed to do for the Half. If I gotta walk most of it he said he'd be with me, we're just gonna have fun. Course at WDW you gotta worry about the sweepers...

Hope everyone is doing well. I try to come over and read once in awile. I miss feeling healthy!

Shan: Hugs to you.

Now that Duckie is back lurking around, where is Debra and everyone else??

Thanks to Vic for volunteering to spin the threads while I'm away!

Carrie...wtg on your half!

Shan...:wizard: for healing.

I'm going on IR myself this week. I've been having some hip, back and abdominal pain for the past couple months that's gotten worse. My PF is kicking up as well, so I'm not sure how they're related. My working diagnosis is possible piriformis syndrome but I'm no orthopedist. I'm starting to wonder if I'm just not built to be a 4 day a week runner or maybe I need to keep the walk breaks. I'm going to try a week off and see how that goes. Not sure I can do it though...I'm already having thoughts of trying to walk a bit on the TM tonight.

Happy Birthday Liz!

Good going on your race Carrie.

Shan, you'll be good as new soon, we all know that already!

Hey to everyone else out there!

Mel

I am very sorry to hear you're on IR. Take care of yourself and get healthy.

Monica

Don't kick yourself too much. The top of Mosquito Pass is 13,188 if I recall. Getting up there is amazing, and having to stop short of the summit is nothing to feel badly about. I assure you I couldn't do it myself.

Carrie

2:25? Wow to you and Scott!

Jeff

As much as I love hte islands, I don't know how you're able to train. At least here when it's hot and humid I know it won't last. Heck I'm already counting about 10 weeks to terrific cool autumn running. You face it every day, in perpetuity.

Of course, living in paradise, that has to make up for it.

Craig

Carrie (& Scott) ~ WTG on the half, great time!

Shan: Take Care... heal fast.

Vic: You are THE man for covering for Mel while she's away. :thumbsup2

Mel: Enjoy!!! We'll miss you!

I am also here to report my huge effort tonight. I wasn't feeling well yesterday (stomach flu) and missed a scheduled LR (8 miles). I woke up with similar symptoms but decided to go to work anyway. I am glad I did. I managed to get through the day without any outward signs of my flu like symptoms. I didn't eat much yesterday nor did I drink much for fear of getting more ill. So, I was basically running on empty (other than lunch today) when I hit the streets tonight on my usual "Rest Day".

Here are my stats:

Miles: 8
Time 1:30:37
Pace: 11:19

My Splits:
9:06
9:13
9:38
11:34
13:44
13:00
11:52
12:30

For the second time in my life I actually hit "the Wall" during my running tonight. It came upon me somewhere around 3.25 miles. It is evident in my split times listed above. Unfortunately other than some warm G2, I had nothing to nourish my depleated body. I literally had to sit down and rest through two songs on my iPod. It was in excess of 85 degrees (5:30 PM) and had to be close to 90% humidity, it had just rained less than an hour before my run.

I live and learn, then again no one said this was supposed to be easy.

Obviously I'm no orthopedist either... but I was talking to a woman last weekend who suffered from severe PF and had found relief from a technique called Total Motion Release. http://www.totalmotionrelease.com/moreTMR.html I've done some reading and still don't quite get it, but the philosophy basically says that any pain has its origins somewhere else in the body. (Her PF was related to her back) What I get from the website is that if we work on overall fitness/core strength, etc, many of the other issues may clear up as a result. Just an idea? Given all the pains you're having, it triggered some of what she'd said and what I'd read. But I'd definitely give it a week off and let your body have a break - mine really enjoyed its vacation (of course it managed to talk me into a 2 week break, and although Saturday's run wasn't so hard, the recovery has been a nightmare!)

Shan - Sending more pixiedust: your way. Just take it really slow and don't try to do too much too soon.

Carrie - Congratulations on your Half! Your weekend activities make my body ache more than it already does!

Monica
- You did great! From what I remember from last year's reports, that mountain is a real bear. You have nothing to be ashamed of.

I'm up for Va Beach 2010. I had it on my preliminary list for this year but took it off for budget reasons. I'm also looking at Richmond for this year - has anyone ever done that or considering it for this year? Right now I'm trying to decide if I can do a half 11/2, full 11/16, half 12/7, and still consider the Disney full in January?

Did 3 miles tonight, will do upper body and/or Pilates tomorrow, then am going to join Terri Wednesday in the Tour de Living Room.

Jackie

Hey Team... so I was sick for the 4th, but by this morning I thought I was feeling better... Until I got to work. Our AC went out during the weekend sometime and we have a deadbeat landlord. So after 3 calls... he finally got someone there around 3pm. I was so sick by lunch as the temps were up to 90 degrees inside with little air movement except for the fans we had blowing. I am feeling better tonight tho!

Mel - NOOOOOO on the IR. Remember, I am always happy to be your partner!!! I am only a 3-4 day runner during training season. During the off season I am lucky to get in 2-3... but I really want to increase my cross training and get this core under control! Lots of GOOD WISHES coming at you!

Carrie - Like I told you.... YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!! BTW... my mom is going to Mayo for some tests. She is not doing well so that is the next option. I am not going for the initial tests, but if something comes of this and she gets treatment there, we may get to meet up!!!

Shan - Hope things heal quickly for you!

Jackie - 2 years ago when I was suffering from sciatic pain, Sunny gave me some book references that dealt with what you were referring. It really helped me and I haven't had any serious sciatic pain since.

Howard, you scare me.

Mel, I'm sorry about your IR. You may need to trade one of your four run days for a RW or WR or WW for sure, or maybe even some pool work. I do hope that you get it figured and it doesn't keep you down too long.

Shan, sorry that things are tough right now. PD that it gets better soon.

Morgan, you go! :cheer2: (Trying to get you moving.)

I've been moving, just not fast these days. Change is on the horizon for me and I expect that will be giving me all the time I need to get myself out there and moving properly with some left over.

Carrie - great time on your 1/2!

Liz - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Howard - bummer about hitting the wall. At least you still finished, even with a rest.

Jen - glad you're feeling better.

Shan - hope your feeling better soon!

Mel
- sorry to hear you'll be on IR. Hope the week off helps.

I finished stage 3 of the Tour de Living Room (I just love typing that  ) Another hour of spinning. I know the riders get a day off every so many days of the Tour, but I don't know how they stand it. I've ridden 3 straight days and my booty hurts  I don't know how they can ride 100 miles one day and then get up and ride another 50-60 the next.

Terri
