Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Hey everyone!

We're baaaack! Had a great time in the NC mountains. Things I learned on vacation:

1. Mountain water is freakin' cold, like 50 degrees! Dude, that's hypothermia!
2. People from FL do not go tubing when the morning temps are in the 60s and it only gets up to 83 all day.
3. DD5 likes hiking as long as it's short with big payoff (waterfalls).
4. I don't drive up mountains...or down them.
5. Living 2300 feet up the side of a mountain (I took the Garmin and got the elevation) is fine if you don't have to drive up or down it.
6. Running up or down the mountain is not gonna happen.
7. Everyone from FL goes to NC for summer vacation.
8. I am not the goat whisperer...I managed to make a goat scream like a scared little girl.

I didn't run in an effort to rehab my hip, though we did plenty of hiking. I did try walking up and down the drive to our cabin...1.45 miles in 29 min. I wish I had an idea of the degree of slope...it was outrageous.

Glad to be back...hope all of you are psyching up to start training for WDW.

Huge congrats to Steve and Krista (and happy belated birthday!). Welcome to our new team member, Carter!

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:
Good thing I was not drinking anything when I just read that!
Welcome back, Mel!

Zack ran his 1/4 mile this morning at Fitness Univ. Finals Day.
It was very cute and I will try to post a picture of him with his new bling soon.

Cam - you rock, woman! :woohoo:

Teri: Here is the official rule from the AABB (American Association of Blood Banks) on post-blood donation exercise:

How will I feel after I donate?
Most people feel great after giving blood. If you feel any abnormal symptoms, let a staff member at the blood donation center or blood drive know. You should avoid lifting heavy objects or strenuous exercise for the next 24 hours; otherwise you can resume full activity as long as you feel well.

I ran this evening well after the 24 hour post-donation period. Even with this, I took it easier than usual.

Here are my stats for today's scheduled 6 miles:

Miles: 6
Time: 57:23
Pace: 9:33

Splits:
9:35
10:57
9:10
9:14
9:04
9:22

I have my first LR above 8 miles tomorrow -- an 11 miler. :scared: I am going to take that one easy too.

I wanted to give a SHOUT OUT to my lovely Bride, CAM, for shattering the 40 minute 5K today during her training run. I just know she'll do it at her next local 5K event. I am so proud of her!

Have a great evening and a happy, healthy Sunday.

Jeff That ice cream machine looks neat. Doesn't actually say, but maybe it uses liquid nitrogen to flash freeze. Just saw an article about this in our local rag this past week.

I'm fighting blobdom this weekend. No exercise other than long dog walks. Right now I'm trying to decide if I want to try the Cook's Illustrated recipe for smoked brisket. Then it's off to work on the HS student directory.

Quick, someone guilt me into going to the gym!

Maura

Mels back! WooHoo!! :woohoo: :dance3:  :woohoo:

What happens in NC, stays in NC. :rolleyes1 :lmao:

Zack - WTG with the 1/4 miler!

Howard - WTG with the 6 miler!

Off to Orlando this morning. I have a one-day training class to attend tomorrow. Then back home on Tuesday. :sad2:

/
Mel: Welcome back! Sounds like a fun trip, screaming goats and all!

Howard: WTG on your run! GL with the long run today! And that is great for Cam too! :thumbsup2

Jeff: Thanks for the tip on the Hannah Montana phone calls. I just set some up for my kids!

Vic: Enjoy Orlando, even for a day or two!

Me: Today is my day to run, actually it was yesterday and I didn't. I need to go today and I really don't feel like it. :guilty: But I should. I should right now. DH is leaving at 5:30 for the Red Sox game so running tonight is out of the question so I really should go do this now. *sigh* I'm feeling very unmotivated.

Allyson

Morning teammates! Well, I had to brave the dreaded home TM again this morning. DH is already at work, so no outdoor running for me (darn those kids) So I hopped on the TM, not expecting to go very long or very far. Well, I managed to accomplish both goals:rotfl2: 3.25 miles in 35 minutes (including warm up and cool down) I think it's time for a new treadmill.

Howard--Wow, your "take it easy" day was awesome! Good luck with the 11 on tap for today!

Cam--WTG on your 5K! You rock!

Kristi--Give Zack a High-5 from me!

Mel--Welcome Back! And :lmao: on the goat whisperer. I want to hear the whole story!

Okay, need to get my rear in gear. I'm working as well today, so I have to get the kids ready to head to my sis's for the day. Pray for her, she's never had both of my kids for longer than a couple hours--and today will be more like 9!

Thanks Jeff for the heads up on the Hannah Montana phone call! That is sooo cute! I think I'll do one for the first day of school and then maybe for when they go to gymnastics and swim. Very neat! :thumbsup2

Maura: I may be too late for this but.... GIRL!! get your butt in the car and get to the gym, what are you thinking? I am sitting here just after my ice bath with a towel wrapped around my head after doing 12 MILES this morning. Am I going to have to get my wet noodle out and get some lashings going??????????????????
Don't make me get up and hobble over there, did you hear me young lady?

(Did that help?? ):lmao:

-watching the end of the Tour de France!!
Tracy

be back later with more to report.

Hi! Well.. the 11 Miler didn't happen. I made it out around 10:30 AM and by the time I was really into my run temps and humidity (and being tired, having just run 6 last night, being hungry, etc.) did me in. I managed 9 miles overall but I spent most of the time jog/walking. I went to Bellvue State Park and ran the Northern Delaware Greenway which is a paved hilly, rambling path through woods and in and around the state park. The hills were brutal today due to the conditions. I realized it wasn't going to happen so I cut my losses and made it a nice walk in the park. :thumbsup2

Have a great week!

:grouphug:

Howard

Howard - thanks for the info about exercising after giving blood. I know 9 miles isn't 11, but at least you got 9miles worth of steps in. Good job!

Cam - WooHoo! You go girl!

Tracy - Great jobon your 12 miler! :cool1:

Mel - Welcome back. Glad you had a nice vacation!

Allyson - get your booty out there!

Vic - Have fun in Orlando!

Well, my "Tour de Living Room" is over for another year. I didn't do too bad. A rough estimate is I think I rode about 115 miles while watching TDF over the 3 weeks. No wonder my butt hurts!:lmao:

Today I went out and did a 5K training r/w at the HS track. I'm still trying to find a routine that works and is comfy for me. Today I did w2/r1 and it went ok. I finished the 5k in 39:39 , which is roughly a 13 mpm pace. Not bad. I may try to stick with that combo for the next week and then try to reverse it to a w1/r2 and slowly increase the run portions. That's the plan for today, anyway.

Terri

Mel: I agree with the fact that Floridians do not go tubing in water with a temp at 60. It's hard enough for me to go in my pool at 84 degrees unless its after a long walk :rotfl: . Running v/s Hiking... hmm which one works your hip more...hmmm?? I'll be psyched about WDW training about 2 weeks after I get back from traveling cross country for the DL 1/2!!! Glad to have you back and glad to hear you had a good and interesting vacation in NC.

Kristi: Cool Zack got Bling Bling!! - we need a photo!! Are you going to start a bling wall or bling hanger for him?? Great job, by the way, with the volunteering thread. (and Judy)

Howard: Glad to hear you are feeling fine after your "take it easy" 6 miler after donating. Congrats to your DW on the time. Sorry that the 11 miler didn't happen, I know how that can feel, but sometimes you do what you can, and adjust later.

Jeff: ALOHA my Hawiian friend. Love the MOOBELLA, hmmm, could be a new business opportunity. What about a wake up call from Mickey Mouse to us "older" Disney fans?? Like a wake up call that says, "Good Morning Mouseketeer, Get up and out of bed. Forget work and come visit me ASAP!!", Now that I would love.:lmao:

Vic: Off to Orlando - hope you get to stop by the ESPN club to check on NASCAR. (I'm watching right now.) Have fun in O-Town.

Allyson: Girl, sorry to hear that you are unmotivated, that is such a downer.:sad2: I think you need the ol' lashings, I will bring out the wet noodle to get going. Don't make me do it. You know once you moan and groan getting ready and putting on your running gear and then hit the road, you will feel better once you get going.

Stephanie: Here is some :pixiedust: for your sister!! TM, ugh, still don't know how you guys do it?? GOod job.

Shan:

Terri: Lovin the "Tour de Living Room"!!!! I watched today on versus. Even on my regular bike (which died yesterday) my butt kills me, I guess that means you must have buns of steel by now.:lmao: I say to try out a few different plans for training to see what feels good to your body - then change as you feel that it starts to get "too easy" for you. Good Luck.

AFM: (as for me)
I got up this morning after not sleeping to well (never do b4 long walks) and was out the door by 6:15am. DId my 12 miler today. At about one and a half miles left, the big thunder clouds started to move in. Not great, however cooled things off considerably, just hopin I wouldn't get poured on. Then lightening started to happen and the lightening alarm went off at the Optimist Field on the corner which means lightening is within 6 miles. I then say my mother drive by and ask if I was good and I said yes, but asked her to drive down to the next corner and wait for me just in case the lightening got worse. I then met up with my "pit crew" and things were good, so I told her to drive on and I would meet her at the house. So 12 miles in while dodging some lightening towards the end  . TOok a shower and then my ice bath which I REALLY needed!! I am a bit sore still, but just mostly when I get up from a seated position.
Watching NASCAR right now and not enjoying it what so ever. It is like watching sprint or interval racing. About every 10 laps they have a competition Yellow to change tires because the track is tearing them up!!.
Leaving soon to go celebrate my Grandmother's 85YO Birthday!!

Hi to everyone else and come back and say Hi and let us know how your doing. (Debra: Having very delicious Chocolate ice cream at Umbertos tonight for Grandma's birthday - yum.)

** Don't forget to check out the Volunteering Thread for the 2009 WDW Marathon weekend and join in on the fun!! (Trying the help out Kristi and Judy)
**

Thanks for the kick in the rear folks. I did go out earlier and I'm glad I did because now it has just been raining/thundering/lightening for the last hour plus. I did 3 miles/40 minutes. I had to stop and walk a bit extra in the middle but it was my longest training run yet so I was glad to have pushed it a little further than usual.

Allyson :)

BTW...forgot to thank Vic for starting off the threads while I was away! Thanks bunches~

Thanks Mel for leading me to this weekly thread. ;)

And thanks to Stephanie for also leading me here and encouraging me to sign up for my first race ever!

I loved what was written at the beginning of this weeks thread. I am going to need all the help I can get! For those who haven't seen it on another thread, I turn 40 this year so I decided to start training for my first race (5K Circle of Life, and with a little push from my friends) and also to run in memory of my mom and dad. My mom passed away ten years ago this past week. So it was all very fitting! I am excited and enthusiastic about getting started but like I said may need some pushing.

GOOOOOOOD AFTERNOON TEAM!!!!!

Did I ever mention that I LOVE WISH!!!!! :cool1:

Why am I so excited you ask (and even if youdon't I will tell you anyway :) )

First I have to say that I give first credit to DH because I texted him this morning (he was at fire station, I was at church supposed to be doing power point slides for worship :confused3 WHOOOPS) and I told him that I was going to do at least 6 today. I have been in a lot of pain again this week but what came next really surprised me because no matter what I say I am going to do as far as training he just lets me and does not interfere -- then lovingly sits by while I whine and cry about the pain. Sorry just have to give him the kudos for putting up with me. So he texted me back and said, "I REALLY think you should not do more than 4" WHAT??? He actually gave me advice, well the best part was in the back of my mind I knew what all my WISH friends would say to so.....

I ran on the treadmill today, the slowest run I have run in 2 years - ON PURPOSE :scared1: . I know I 'm being silly but my "LR" today consisted of 4 really "easy" miles where I even forced myself to walk for a break between each mile. This is so hard for me, to slow down, but I really want to be there in January at the starting line and the reason I am excited is this is the BEST I have felt after a run in a VERY long time.

Anyway sorry for the really long post all about me but when I first started posting on these boards my posts were always, rediculously mushy and enthusiastic because I would get so excited over every little accomplishment and I feel like I Have posted such downers for so long. So here is a happy one

I will be back to catch up with everyone, just had to tell you guys my great news. :flower3:

I signed up today for the WDW Marathon!!! I am so excited I always wanted to run this one. I am running the Kiawah marathon 12/5 so I will have 5 weeks to recover and get ready. My wife and I are going to be in WDW January 1-10th for our honeymoon. We talked about it and she said I could do it as long as I don't ruin the honeymoon by obsessing about the race. Who me? :)

I assured her that Kiawah was my goal race and that this would be a "fun run". Of course if I miss a BQ in December this is my secret backup plan. :rotfl2:

I am looking forward to meeting all of y'all before the race. Looks like I will need to get a WISH shirt to wear for the race.

Good week of running for me. 75.1 miles all easy.

David

Angie - great job taking it slow! Keep it up - we all want & need you there in January.

I just skimmed, so forgive me. Been crazy woman cleaning out kitchen cabnets all day.
You would not believe the expired stuff I threw out!
Maybe we should cook more often and actually use some of this stuff. Anyway, I digress...

Here are a couple of pics from Fitness University yesterday.
Zack finished his 1/4 mile run/walk around the track and got some new bling.
I do have to say, he's like his momma - at the back of the pack! :lmao:

Zack running (parents of 5 year olds and up were not allowed in the track  )

Here is Zack with Mackenzie and their shiny new medals!
(not the best pic, let's hope Mackenzie's mom has a better one on her camera)

This Fitness U. program is wonderful! I wished I knew about it before. They have free running clinics for area children on Tuesday evenings in June & July. Then, the last Saturday of July, they have Finals Day - they run their race, but also have face painting, a health expo, a craft to make, etc. They all get a t-shirt and medal. And the best part? It's all FREE!! Apparently it was started by the local Gate City Striders running group in '89. I have lived in Nashua my whole life and never knew about Fitness U. until someone told me about it this past spring.
