Wk of July 22--WISH Walking/Running Club

A super quick drive by - I ran 4 miles over lunch today with 4 hill repeats. I made sure to work on my form and it definitely helped me at points where I started to feel tired. I tightened my core and rechecked my arm swing and it helped to propel me up the hill. My last mile on flat ground was slowwww. Guess my legs are tired from boot camp and all those hills!

4 mi in 48:27 for a 12:07/mi pace. Tonight is yoga. Have a great evening everyone!

Puncture wounds on the left inner forearm and right inner thigh. A couple of inches higher on the thigh wound and I'd be talking in a higher voice. :rolleyes1 Had to do the ER deal beacuse my leg wouldn't stop bleeding.

 Oh, sorry about the injury Vic! Hopefully you will recover quickly, it must have been kind of scary when the bleeding wouldn't stop.

Christa, great run!

Leana, I would like to hear more about what you concentrate on when you on working on your form. Those things are always good reminders.:thumbsup2

Maggie, ooh, shopping online...I must stay away. Christmas is bad enough around these parts with the UPS man making deliveries every other day.

Hello Everyone

Can't catch up with everyone individually tonight but I wanted to say a couple of things:

1. Thank you to everyone for your advice about the full vs. 1/2  I am still trying to decide based on how my back is doing. I can do either one as far as signing up cause the charity I run for still has openings for both.

2. Seth's feet: Went to the doctor and got casted for orthotics. Basically his ankles turn in because of his extreme flat footed problem, and fallen arches, which we have known about for a couple of years. His is just getting worse and the doc said the only reason he is asymptomatic to this point is because he is a 7 1/2 who only weighs about 40 pounds (we do feed him I swear :confused3 ) He was telling us about all the teenagers through adults he sees with all kinds of problems from this. There is a surgery they can do but he was saying that a lot of people don't do it because they don't have any problems, but they end up with problems later. Sorry if none of this is making sense. Basically he is not in any pain right now and so far he is able to keep up with the other kids, but we need to decide if we want to do the surgery "just in case" he might have problems later.:scared:

So on the training front: Did 3 miles, Bobby did 1.5 with me :cheer2: unfortunately my back is aching right now. I have not been keeping track of my time because right now I just want to get the miles in and I will drive myself crazy watching my watch!! :lmao:

Have a good night everyone

angie

Christa - Great job!! Be careful out there running in this kind of heat, and make sure you have enough fluids!!

I was just reading my (not mine, I'm not actually a member) local running clubs newsletter, and you won't beleive what I saw. It actually made me kind of angry, and I know Disney wouldn't approve. I don't know how to copy and paste from a pdf, but go to page 16 and you'll see.

Those characters look pretty sorry! Isn't that like trademark infringement or something like that?

I read in Running Times & Walk! Magazine this month that you shouldn't take Ibuprofen before an event. Something about how it could make you at risk for hyponatremia (too much water). I didn't know that! It said you could use acetaminophen.

Hey! I see new people! Welcome new people!

going to sleep now but wanted to check in. DH and I did our timed steps tonight. We played on the hill. Yech, I'm so glad we did. I got it done.

Good night team!

I got out last night with the two boys and went for a 1 mile walk. Billy was great for about half of it and then decided he had enough. He was quite sure I didn't know where I was going and he knew the shortest distance home. He was quite annoyed when he figured out that I did know the shortest distance. Afterwards he said he had fun so we might have to try to keep doing it. Timmy just sat and was quiet the whole time so I have no idea if he enjoyed it or not. He didn't scream at me so I will take that as a good sign. :rotfl:

Lily - Glad that you got the hill work done and you can check that off.

Stacey - I don't take it just before a run but usually 3-4 hours before. For marathon I will usually take an 8 hour tylenol. It varies for each person and is something to try before the actual race.

Angie - Great job on the training. I hope your back feels better soon. Good luck with the decision about the full/half and with Seth's surgery.

Leana - Great job with the hill work. That is a great pace for that especially when you did some the day before.

Maggie - Glad you are going to come for TOT. We hope we are able to see you at the race.

Vic - Sorry to hear about the bites. It sounds like they have a new game now, fight until we can bite dad. ;)

Dana - I'm surprised Disney hasn't said anything about it especially since it is relatively close to them. The characters didn't look that great either. I was able to get a little more reading in last night and at this rate I may finish by the end of this month. It is starting to get interesting now. Good luck with the antibiotics, I got nicely burned one time when I didn't follow the stay out of the sun rule.

Christa - Great job on the run. You are tearing up the trails. 10 pages every week, I'm doing good to remember that much with a month of practicing.

Colleen - Hope your house is still standing after the whirlwind of kids. Good luck on finding time to get your 7 miles in.

Sunny - Great job on the 10 miles. Thanks for the smilies, if you are tired enough and stare at them long enough they start moving. :scared1: Probably a good sign I need to go to sleep earlier. :rolleyes1

Beth - Welcome, we hope to see more of you here during your training. I think there are going to be several people who want to do the MCM next year.

Cindy - If you have 10 now, you will be able to get 26 later. Most plans only go to 20 anyway so you are definately ready for this.

Judy - Yeah for being able to walk. Hope everything goes well on Monday when they start to unsew you.

Stepahnie - Good luck with your Family Drama. Hope everything works out nicely for it.

Kristi - Although it is probably too late, have fun at the concerts. Don't do anything you wouldn't do if we were there watching. :rolleyes1 ;)

Kim - Hope the hill training went well on the TM. For some reason I can't get over 3.1 miles on one even though I have tried a few times.

MSDave - Great pace for the 6 miles. Hope your legs are feeling better.

Have a great day everyone.

Bill

No time to read everything - sorry. Just wanted to stop by and report my exciting times on the treadmill on Tuesday doing a 5k - 34.30 - my quickest before was 37!!!! I have a 5k race Saturday evening so today will probably be my last training run. I am hoping to get out and run on the road the 3 miles today at around the same time as the race on Saturday (7 pm) so hopefully the thunder/rain storms won't come today or Saturday or else I know I will be on the treadmill tonight and if it rains on Saturday I'm not sure - just crossing my fingers that its nice!!!

Good luck to anyone with races this comming weekend and happy training in case I don't get back until after my race.

Morning team. Got my 7 miles in on the dreadmill yesterday. 62:45, I think. Today is a much needed rest day. We are taking a family mini-vacation this weekend and I"m trying to work my runs around it. I'm going to try to get my 10 miler in tomorrow--I don't want to have to try to find 10 relatively flat miles in Branson; not keen on running the Ozark Mtns. just yet

Bill--Aahh, I know the walk you talk of. DD loves to go on walks for about a block, and then insists we need to carry her back to the house b/c her legs as SO tired. She's been so dramatic as to sit on the curb and tell us she just can't go any further:rolleyes:

Cindy--You can do this! Take it one week at a time--If you're already at 10 miles you're doing awesome! Forgive me, I can't remember, but are you training for Disney? If so, just maintain that 10 mile or so for a LR and then you'll be good to go to start the "official" training in a couple months!

Gotta run--check in later!

It seems like the great 10-mile run from Saturday was a month ago. This weeks runs of 3-5-3 miles have not been very fun mainly due to the high humidity that we normally have this time of year. I'm also dealing with some kind of a muscle pull or strain in my right calf. It happened during my first LR 5 weeks ago and went away after a few weeks. Well, it's back and annoying. It actually doesn't hurt during the runs as much as it hurts after. I'm not big on stretching so maybe I need to do more of that. Any ideas of how to deal with this?

On another note, I booked CBR for the marathon! The plan is to arrive on Friday and leave on Tuesday. Hopefully I can limp around the parks for a few days after the race.

Good morning team!!!!!!

Just a quick drive by this morning, off to a meeting.

Well got in 4K last night, a few hills but nothing major. It was a bit of a stonker, I was sucking wind big time but it was really humid so that might have been my problem.

Hope you all had a great training day yesterday.

Kim

Angie, hope that helps Seth's feet! :goodvibes

I finished my third week of my maintenance program today. (I take Fridays and Saturdays off.) I've been dragging ever since I got back from Vegas. I don't know what it is... (Maybe a mental thing cause I know I skipped two runs while I was out of town and I feel extremely guilty for it???)
Anyway, I ran 11.82 miles this week with an average pace of 12:21. Today was my longer run at 4.5 miles, averaged 12:14 for my pace.

I'm having a really hard time being motivated. Since I completed my initial program and finally ran that 10K I've become less excited about going out that door in the mornings. I'm doing it, but it takes A LOT of will power! I was so excited about Race for the Taste and now... I dunno.
Plus, DH has a hip injury right now and he is on meds. It has been awhile since he has run and he is supposed to do RFTT with me. He was part of my motivation... We'll see!

I am getting tired of my music on my ipod, too. I used to listen to Disney themed podcasts when I walked, but when I started running I found I couldn't concentrate to hear them. I tried it again this morning and it was actually OK. It kinda helped a little to have something new to listen to.

Did 5k on TM again. Getting boring, but is easy to do during DD's swim lessons. I'll be on a different schedule after next week when lessons end.

Shan- I think I did maybe 2 runs in the month after the Minnie. I couldn't drag myself to the gym for anything. I guess your bubble bursts a little after you run the race you've been thinking about for so long! (So I probably won't get off the couch for 6 months after marathon weekend...)

I started back up with my Nike+ (I've been playing with the goals thing) and I've been training better. Don't let it get you down too much. I think keeping reading these boards saved me!

Oh, and I am soooo bored with my music now. I was thinking about posting a thread requesting new music!

Jen in GA

Shun - I find if I mixed up my music it does help with my "ocassional" boredom, or lack of motivation.

Sounds like everyone is doing well with their training...way to go TEAM!

Yesterday I rode my bike for 30 mins. then DH and I went on an hour hike. I also signed up for my first full marathon, which is on Sept.30th. I think my friend, Monica, is going w/me...she still on the fence and is alittle afraid after the Leadville half. We'll see:confused3

Shan - Motivation, that is a tough one! When I have troubles getting out the door I try to find a new route to explore. Going the same place all the time is boring and it really helps to mix it up. New scenery, some hilly terrain, that helps a lot. Also, is there a race nearby that you can sign up for? I know RFTT is your first race, and since it still seems far away, maybe something between then and now will help you get out the door. Even new running clothes work as motivation for me. Or else look for a running group to join? Good luck - hopefully the WISH folks can help you find the motivation you need!

Hi Guys.

Okay, I think this posting what I plan to do is a good thing. I positively would not have walked last night (I didn't get it done in the morning) if it hadn't been for knowing I had posted I was going to do 3 miles and I would have had to post that I didn't. It was actually a good time. It was "way dark" out here in the boonies by the time I could get to it. (DS was having two friends spend the night) so I walked on the treadmill. It wasn't too hot in the outdoor building where the TM is located -- except with the door open the little bugs about ran me in -- but I stuck in there until the end.

I'll take today off-- and run kids all over town -- and plan to walk 4 miles on Friday. There-- it's out there, I have to do it.

Have a great day everyone.

I worked hard yesterday! After hills and the stair work I went to yoga and got in some pilates clamshells to work on my hips before heading to bed. My legs are feeling a bit tired today. Tonight I am skipping boot camp to go see Nickelback in concert, then heading to a make up boot camp session tomorrow afternoon. After all that hard work I'm pretty sure I deserve that rest tonight!

Good morning WISH Team. Lots of talk about motivation this morning. It can get hard sometimes.

Go to your biggest mirror and look that person reflected back at you. That body you see is the only one you are ever gonna get. We don't often have the choice whether we drive a vette or a mini-van, but we can sure as heck choose whether we are gonna be a vette or a mini-van.

I had a spot of trouble getting out the door this morning, I had a kitten try to stoaway in my gym bag. That throw me off and I forgot my watch and my iPod. (Shania Twain didn't join me this morning.) I had a nice 4 mile walk anyway.

I have a race this saturday so tomorrow will just be some easy miles on the Treadmill with a few speed intervals thrown in, to stay loose.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Ok, no training to report because this is week of Goo. So without further ado:
meetgreet_email.jpg

I had a few beverages, so I guess I didn't care that my hair was a mess.
BUT, I got John to smile - major accomplishment as usually looks like his dog just died in the m&g pics!
The show was fabulous too.
AND, after the show, our group hung out in the bar for 2 hours with John's guitar tech.

I don't know how Atlantic City is going to top that!

Looks like you had a great time last night Kristi! Enjoy the next two shows!!

WOW Kristi! That night of Goo looks fun!

Real quick as always!

WTG WWDave on that walk! You are going all the time!

Angie - :wizard: and :grouphug: for your baby boy!

Training....took princess: princess: swimming today, now getting ready for work...yeah I go late tonight! But that OK!

Tomorrow will run long...part of it with Bree. 12 - 16 miles for me....10 to 12 for her.

Saturday will bike long. I think Bree, another girl, and I will ride (on our cool road bikes) downtown and watch some of the "24 Hours of Booty" ride. I am PLANNING 50 to 70 miles but we will see.
