Wk of July 15--WISH Walking/Running Club

I said well for one thing our children knew how to go outside and play instead of sit in their room all day on the keyboard.
EXACTLY!
This is why we are building one of those huge playsets in our backyard!
Nevermind we have lots of other Little Tikes outdoor things.
Also why Zack goes to Tae Kwon Do and swim lessons.
I am also trying to get in the habit of taking a walk with him around the block in the evening. Hopefully one day he will walk/run with me too.

I want to have him enjoy being active.
I don't want him to feel it's a chore - which is how I usually feel about it.

Morning team! My 6 miles went well yesterday. NO pain! I think I'll just count the day from HE.. as a fluke and leave it at that! Today I"m gonna do my speed workout and then do something with the kids. I'd love to go to the pool, but my youngest thinks it's some sort of torture device and won't go in.

angie--your trip sounds so exciting! Hope you get to go!

SWDave--we've cruised once before, on the Disney Wonder, and loved it. You guys will have a blast!

WWDave--don't remember if I said congrats yesterday or not--so, CONGRATS!!

Helen--good luck deciding whether to run or read Harry Potter

Kristi--score on all the deals at Target--think today I'm heading out for some shopping therapy. Gotta redeem my Gymbuck.

Craig--WTG on the mile! One of the guys my dad used to run with, is still running and is SUPER speedy. He's in his 70s now and wins the Masters divisions all over the place. Very inspiring. Sounds like Boulder is treating you well.

Cam and Howard--Have a WONDERful vacation! Have a conch cooler for me!

Okay, better go. DD is up. TGIF all! Hope everyone has a great day and a great weekend!

I hit the turn and pass Isaac, wondering if I should pop him with an elbow just to make the point that age and dirty tricks will overcome youth and skill every time. I'd have to bend over to do it so I let the opportunity pass.
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Thanks for the laugh; I needed it this morning!!

Dave - :woohoo: Here's a woohoo for passing your exam! Congrats!

Today I'm supposed to do some xt but I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. It's just me and DS today, so I need to figure out something I can do with him.

Anyone going to the bookstore at midnight tonight? :wizard: I ordered my HP book through Amazon so it will be delivered sometime tomorrow, but I'm feeling the urge to drop in at Barnes and Noble tonight to get a copy and get it read before someone spoils it for me!

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Good morning,

Did 1 hour of yoga this am for my xt.

Helen, Here's to Harry Potter mania!!!! We are very excited!

Nevermind we have lots of other Little Tikes outdoor things.
Also why Zack goes to Tae Kwon Do and swim lessons.

Kristi, I agree. My kids are outside everyday. My dd16 is active, willing to walk/bike to things that most of her friends won't. The boys 5/3 are difficult to get back inside. They play in the backyard all day. We don't have a swingset, but we live within 1mile of at least 5 parks. They do have 3 sand pits in the back yard. That seems to be a neighborhood favorite.

As far as exercise being a chore, my walks sometimes feel like that, but my yoga classes never do.

I like your idea of walking around the block each night with your son. Great habit to form. How old is he?

eeyore45, It is beautiful here isn't it! Last night the breeze was incredible for sleeping. My dh is running a 10miler tomorrow. I hope the weather stays.

Have a great day!
Maggie

Karen – Good luck on your LR this weekend! Looking forward to seeing you and John at CDC!

Craig – Fabulous race, buddy! Hey, you were NOT in the lower 25%! Pretty darn far from DLF, I’d say. But your account of the race had me cracking up! Can you believe you are doing so well at that altitude? You are in a whole new league, my friend! Hugs to you and Martha! :grouphug:

WWDave– congrats on passing your exam. So glad you didn’t have to wait a month for results. A raise is always nice!

SWDave – so glad to see you here but I am really sorry your wife was going through so much family drama. I think many of us can relate. I’m glad you all survived it and that you have a very exciting family vacation to look forward to. I just wanted you to know we really missed you around here.

Sunny – you remain in my prayers!

Carrie – for the job situation and on the awesome run! :cool1:

Happy belated birthday, Krista & Laura!!! I hope there is still some leftover :cake: to enjoy! ;)

Angie – I was so relieved and happy to hear about your run and Bobby’s! Great job, both of you!

Helen – I’d be very nervous about all the HP spoilers out there. WE will be in Orlando and I am so tempted to buy the book. I bet we’ll see many of them at the pool and on the ship! :rotfl: DS14 is away at camp and I know they are expecting a truckload of books ordered for the campers and I am sorry he will not read it there and will certainly hear of the ending before he gets to read it. Maybe I’ll read it before he comes home, hand it off to DD19 to read before she goes back to college, and then Andy can be 3rd in line. ;)

WooHoo, Stephanie! So glad you got past your character building run! :) I’ll be sure to have a conch cooler for you. I also have some light coconut rum that should make lots of diet coke very palatable. Would you like one of those consumed on your behalf as well? So happy to oblige for my WISH teammates. :rolleyes1

Looking forward to a LR at Port Orleans tomorrow. So far, I have had the pleasure of doing training wogs/runs around Saratoga Springs and Old Key West. I am really looking forward to exploring two resorts that are new to me, on fast feet! I will be thinking of all of you when I get up to run on deck at least one morning, if not 2, on the WONDER. And I will miss all of you! :sad1: WDW just isn't the same without a WISH team meet!

"Talk" to you next week! Don't have too much fun without me, and if someone would be so kind as to collect all the fun/funny posts in a separate document and email it to me, that would be a sign of true friendship, for sure! :lmao:

Okay, everyone, time to sign off the DIS to finish up work. Howard is picking me up around 3:30 and we'll be on a 7:00 flight to MCO!!!

OMG what a difference. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

I didn't realize how stiff I had become from all the stress of the last month and a half. I actually felt taller ( more stretched out ) and much lighter on my feet. I did my 4 miles, on the hills, effortlessly this morning.

I have a 2 mile walk race tomorrow evening, I can't wait. There is prize money so that always draws a crowd. There are 5 other senior olympians coming as well as at least 4 younger racewalkers that I know of. There will be some out of town racers coming, there always is. Last year there were over a hundred for this race, mostly power and fitness walkers.

I reminded myself of an old proverb this morning while I was walking. "Shoot for the moon and even if you miss your shot will land among the stars". Not sure why that came to mind but it seemed to fit my mood today.

Have a wonderful day WISH friends, I'm glad your there.

Dave:hippie:

Haven't seen Christa, aka, GatorPhipps, in some time......oh Christa, where are you?:hourglass

Cam and Howard - I hope you have a great trip!! Enjoy the pathway around Port Orleans. That is where I stayed for the Minnie and I went out for a run around there. I love that pathway, it is so pretty!

WWDave - Congratulations on passing your exam! Way to go! I love that proverb you posted by the way. I actually have it inscribed on a necklace, along with two other charms, one reading "Dream" the other reading "Balance." It reminds me to follow my dreams and never forget to dream, and to always remember that there has to be a balance in life, especially between work and play.

Craig - Awesome job at the track meet!! I love your posts. It sounds like you are having a great time out in Boulder.

Renee, Maggie and Helen - Add me to the Harry Potter mania list! I won't be buying the book at midnight....I'm going to get my 8 miles in early, and hopefully be done in time to hit the doors opening at Costco at 9:30 tomorrow to pick it up. BUT I am still rereading and am halfway through book #4. I really want to reread all the books before I start in on the final one so I'm going to have to make sure to avoid all those spoilers.

Stephanie - Yay for your 6 mile pain free run!!

Angie - Hopefully you are able to go on that trip!

Last night was Bikini Boot Camp for me. More circuit training: side to side lunges with bicep curls, burpees with a medicine ball, side planks, shuffling from side to side between two trees, tricep extensions balancing on one leg (leaning forward), step ups, and jumping jacks. We would do each excercise for 45 sec, rest for 15 sec, then repeat for another 45 sec, then move to the next station. After one round on the circuit we did a bit of hill training, then did another round on the circuit and time for a stretch. I will be so sad when boot camp is over! I won't be able to sign up for a fall session because with Goofy training and yoga I won't have enough time. I'll have one day a week for weights/XT. I'm writing down all the excercises we do though so that I can repeat them later on my own.

Today is a well deserved day of rest, tomorrow is an 8 miler, and Sunday I'm going to aim for a back to back session of yoga and pilates. Attempting to take full advantage of my unlimited summer pass at the yoga studio...:rolleyes1

The waaaaahhhmbulance!!!!:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: Oh I love it! I'm always quoting "issue-- not issues, I have ONE issue" No dog, no wife-- you mean I grow up to be a loser???? Time to watch that one again:thumbsup2

Did I miss something? Why is Kristi always written in red? Is it the hair:)

Thanks everyone for calling me an inspiration. You all make me feel guilty; like I'm on a pedistal or something. Just ask my family, I don't belong on ANY pedistal. It's easy to conceal the evidence online! :rotfl:

Congrats WWDave:woohoo:

Happy birthday everybody!

Hey check this out - the road where I usually do my L/Rs got repaved! :woohoo: I consider it a "Welcome back to training" gift from the highway department. It's a nice smooth long stretch of even blacktop now. I know this may not sound exciting but when you've been on the couch for ten days, it's something to look forward to! :thumbsup2

Carrie - Oh I LOVE that movie! I'm so happy for you! :yay: On both accounts - new job and new speediness! :cheer2:

Angie - YAY for the 4 miles! :thumbsup2 Did you apply? Get going!!

Craig - Congratulations! :woohoo: And you are NOT an old dinosaur!

WWDave - Congratulations! :dance3: (You get dancing girls!)

MSDave - You might have told us, but is this your first cruise? Let me tell you a little something about using your Garmin while on board... :rotfl2:

You guys are so funny with your HP addiction! I got a delivery from UPS this morning and it was from Amazon.com and the UPS driver told me to enjoy my Harry potter book. I laughed and said "Oh no, this is MUCH better! It's a Disney Cruise Line book!" You guys all enjoy it, though!!

Sunny - OK, I don't get the towel thing. Maybe I missed a post. :confused3 And I respectfully disagree with you and your family. I think I can speak for many of us when I say that when we are struggling with a stonker or some minor pain and we think of you and your courage and grace....You ARE inspiring!

Hi Renee- Yup we're going to the store at midnight. DD9 princess: is determined to get the book at midnight and read it all weekend. We actually considered getting multiple copies so we could all read it at the same time. Alas, didn't happen. I'm third in line in the family to get it - 1st DD9 princess:, 2nd DW, 3rd me. Maybe I can read the book on the cruise.

Cam- I hope you and Howard have a great time on your cruise!!! Have fun on your LR in Disney.

Carrie- You got a new job? I missed that one. If so, congratulations - I hope it's so much better than the last one that was giving you so much stress.

Judy- Yup, it's my first cruise, and I remember your Garmin on the cruise story very well. What was your minute/mile pace? 35 mph or something like that?

Sunny- Yeah, what Judy said...

Hi everyone! TGIF!

I wanted to thank EVERYONE for their nice notes about our upcoming WONDERful vacation and cruise.

We will be thinking of you all and enjoying everything Disney (and life) has to offer over the next 6 days.

I too will be running at POFQ and the surrounding trails tomorrow AM. After taking most of this week off of training, I need it!

Be good, take care and Happy Training!

Jealous, jealous, jealous...:rolleyes1

Enjoy! :boat:

All in all it was a humbling and unbelievably exciting experience. I haven't run in a track meet since 1986, and I had so much fun it has to be illegal. I've run for myself, for my wife and daughter, and for my running clubs, my wish club and my BRR club. I could never have done this alone. Thanks for the help
 Isn't that what it's all about my friend?! Congrats to you and thank you for once again so eloquently inspiring us all. It seems Colorado was exactly what you needed.

Okay, since Craig's post forced me into posting, I will quickly get in a few shout outs I've wanted to...I a sorry if I miss anyone.

Cam and Howard (Jen too) - Have an awesome, awesome time on your Disney cruise:banana: . Travel safe!!

SW Dave - So glad to see you again and to hear that you're going on a cruise. My kids like the Oceaneer's Club on Royal Caribbean the best out of the three cruise lines they've been on. You guys will have a blast!!

WWDave - Congrats on the exam:woohoo: :cool1: !! I have gone to an accupuncturist in the recent past. Besides needles I had cupping done on my back and it was a frightening sight. I went for sciatica with good results.

Judy - Glad the shot worked wonders for you:cheer2: and that the highway department is celebrating with a gift of newly paved roads:rotfl2: .

Sunny - You are definitely an inspiration. You've never failed to show more guts, grit and raw determination than most. I'm wishing you continued sucess with the spinal stimulation.

Colleen - Why is my MCM training partner MIA:confused3 !! I hope you're doing well and your runs have been inspiring:) .

Angie - Glad to hear you and Bobby continue to improve:banana: !

Stephanie - :cool1: WTG on the pain-free 6 miles!!

Kristi - I heard yesterday that the Goo Goo Dolls and Lifehouse will be in Saratoga next week and I thought of you:hippie: . Well, actually I thought about the video with the lead singer shirtless you were referring to and then I wondered if this is something I might want to check out:lmao: !!

Happy training and racing to all this weekend:cheer2: . This is a step-back week for me in my MCM training so only 7 miles in the a.m. I am heading to a restorative yoga class after work tonight which is fast becoming my highlight of the week. Really, really good stuff!!

Did I miss something? Why is Kristi always written in red? Is it the hair:)

I wondered the same thing but never asked. I figured it was because she has her name in red in the signature? Inquiring minds would like to know!!

Today is a rest/stretch day for me. Tomorrow AM I hope to get out and do at least 3 miles hopefully more like 4. I am tired of being stuck at only 3 miles, I would love to be able to run 5 miles but my body or my mind always shuts off at 3. I really need to keep it turned on so that I can get the milage up so that I can actually do a 13k.

Everyone going on vacation or cruises all this talk is making me jealous and :sad1: But I know between Oct, Nov and Dec I will have my time for vacation - the last couple of years its been Disney, the Florida Keys (and the NASCAR race in Homestead) and hopefully another trip to Disney for Christmas time. Have fun on your trips and enjoy and be safe.

Judy Glad to hear you have a nice repaved road to run on. How is your foot feeling?

Good luck to all who have races this weekend.

Ther was another Kristi that does not seem to piost much now. However, Kristi was implemented to differentiate given her beautiful hair.

Craig - I don't know if we post bail for elbowing minors. :rotfl2: Thanks for being too lazy to bend over! :lmao:

Stephanie - Congrats on a pain -free run!

Dave - The legs are better but just taking time to get in shape again. Thanks for asking. BTW, dh appreciates that your ILs make his famikly look easy going! ;)

The weather is beautiful today and supposed to get down to 48 tonight. Woo hoo. That's runnin' weather for me!!!

I thought it was because of her "firery" personality!
