Wk of July 15--WISH Walking/Running Club

Happy Birthday Laurie!!!!!

See, you guys are going to get sick of me now that I'm posting again...

Happy Birthday Krista & Laurie!:)

SWDave - Glad yo see you're back! Sorry you had to deal with family drama.
We have that in my family, too. We stopped doing holiday dinners together, because of the drama.

Well, I went out and got two new pairs of running shoes yesterday. Both are Brooks Adrenoline GTS 7. They felt pretty good in the store, so I can't wait to try them out on the road. They're a combo of cushioning and stability.

The Dr. said to get a motion conttrol shoe, but the guy at my local running store didn't think I needed that. He said the motion controls were for people with flat feet/small arch. I have a decent arch. He recommended the stability shoe instead.

Since my Dr. isn't into running much, I decided to go with a different expert and try these shoes. I hope they work our okay.

Happy training everyone.
Terri

You can never post too much Dave! ;)

I am kind of bad at this computer stuff. I think if you right click on the pic, then the url should be in the properties. I will try to figure out if I can get a url for you...

As for Target - I got a V-Smile for 50% off for my nieces birthday in Sept. Some of the games were 50% off too - mostly 6-8 year old ones though. I got a play tent for a friend's son for 50% off - $14.99. The Leap Pad Spelling things were also 50% off - good for grades 1-6. That one is a niece's Christmas present. I got Zack a few t-shirts that were 50% off also. Patio items at some Targets around the country already went 75% off. Mine was only 50% last night.

I check the message boards at www.mycoupons.com/boards every morning. They always have a Target update on the B&M boards. I also check out the message boards at www.thegrocerygame.com too.

And today is Gymbucks redemption at Gymboree!!!

Also Dave, you are so NOT the only one with the family drama! Your story almost sounds like something I could have written! My uncle owns the house on Lake Sunapee and it gets quite small when everyone is up there at once. My sister & I get along great - from a distance. We unfortunately do not do well being around each other for extended periods of time. It's at the point where we chose not to sleep over at the lake when she is staying over. Kind of stinks for us, but keeps me sane.;)

:bday: Krista & Laurie! party:

Hi Guys.

I feel so out of it. I haven't read or posted in what seems like forever. Computer problems (I hate Norton) have used up way too much of my computer time. One car in the shop have resulted in precious morning time spent taking DH to the office. Hopefully both of these are behind me.

I did manage swimming last week and this and a couple of longer runs -- really walks 3 mi and 4 mi. These are long for me.:woohoo:

I'm trying hard not to panic about the sweepers. I really think I can manage the increase to the distance, but if I think about the time thing, I get squimish. Any thoughts for a newbie.

I've given up on trying to read everything I've missed, I'm just starting over from here.

Have a great day.
Dona

Hi Kim- No, we've never cruised before, and yes, I was trying to get some information on the Cruise Critic boards. I'm feeling a little out of my element regarding the cruise - so any information you might have would be hugely appreciated.

That site is a great source of info. Can get a little nasty at times but it is great.

I have only cruised 3 times before but anything you want to know I can probably answer for you.

Kim

Morning everyone! I went to yoga class last night which was terrific. We did a lot of back bends. Wow, my quads are tight....I really need to improve on that. I also signed up for a class for their fall session on Mondays, which should complement Goofy training pretty well. After the back to back runs on the weekends stretching and relaxing at yoga should feel great! After yoga I hit the mall to check out the newly opened Sephora store here - just arrived in Calgary. My girly girl side comes out when confronted with all that make up!

Happy birthday Krista and Laurie!! :bday:
MSWDave - It definitely sounds like you guys could use a family vacation. I'm sure you will have a great time on your cruise! I've only cruised once - through Royal Carribean on the Mexican Riviera - and it was a lot of fun.
Dona - You have plenty of time still before the big race. Concentrate on getting the distance in. With the adrenalin on race day you'll be way ahead of those sweepers, no problem! When I ran my first half I was a full minute ahead of the pace that I was doing my LRs at.
Terri - New shoes! Hope they feel great for you! Are you getting excited about SF yet?
Kim - Sounds like the 20 min challenge was a lot of fun last night. I got the e-mail from Running Room on it yesterday afternoon, but I really wanted to go to yoga last night and the class started at 6:30 so it didn't work out. Plus I had already run my hills by the time I got the message and I didn't want to over run.
Sandy - Good luck getting the steps in today!
Martha - Hope the session with your trainer went well.
Stephanie - Hope today is a better day for you!
Kristi - Sounds like you had a great XT session yesterday!
Maggie - Way to go on the 5 miler, and I hope you enjoy the movie tonight!
Helen - I've sort of combined Hal Higdon and Jeff Galloway's plans for my Goofy training. I'll be doing short runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays (about 5 miles), then doing back to back runs on Saturdays and Sundays, even on the cut back weeks. I want to make sure I am used to these back to back days. I figure 4 days of running a week out to do it!
Carrie - Oh, cotton candy...yum!

Tonight is supposed to be boot camp, providing we don't have thunderstorms continuing this afternoon..!!

I was full of negative energy this morning and I felt it on my 4 mile walk. It was hot to, 80 degrees at 7 am. It was 3 miles before I started feeling better and remembered that I can only be as miserable as I choose to be.

About the time I started feeling better I found a little green stuffed rhino, in new condition, on the side of the road. The kittens will love it. I guess that was my reward for getting my head together. I found a quarter soon after also.

I have a race this weekend, an evening 2 mile walk race. So I need to be feeling strong and positive before then.

Have a good day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Greetings all –

We got a bit of a surprise last night. My oldest stepson is getting married. :scared1: Yes, the one that just graduated high school. The one that moved out of his house and now lives with my in-laws. The one that’s always in trouble like every other week. He’s been dating this girl three months. My poor husband is beside himself. Junior is supposed to be heading to West Virginia U in like five weeks.

All I can do is sit here with my foot up and shake my head. Man, teenagers sure make horses look easy!

Laurie – Get out! You used to live in Goldens Bridge?? :yay: I drive thru there every day on my way to work! Oh a belated Happy Birthday to you!! :cake:

Krista - Happy Birthday to you!! :cake:

SWDave – to you and DW. Family. Can’t live with ‘em and can’t shoot ‘em. Don’t worry about us getting sick of you. You should see how we pretty much panicked at your disappearance. I’ve cruised five times before but always on Carnival. If you have any questions maybe I can help. P.S. Wow, you’re a pretty special husband. :cloud9:

OK now that we have found Dave, where’s Kevin? :confused3

Oh Judy, good luck. :grouphug: for you and your hubby.

Donna I was feeling that way too!! I think the threat of those sweepers is what keeps me on track with a "plan"... Thanks Krista for the encouragement!!

Teri I went with the reccomendation of the running shoe store too - and these stability New Balance feel awesome - I was just wondering if I should buy another pair!

WW Dave I'm really trying to get over that "hump" of negative talk - thanks for the encouragement!!

Oh Judy, good luck. :grouphug: for you and your hubby.

Hey all - Not much to report, Work Took Over the last couple of days. My cross training has been setting up for our garage sale that is tomorrow. I only have about 1/2 done, so I will be one busy girl tonight.

SWDave - Oh I am so glad you are back!! :grouphug: I truely know about family drama. It is quite common here lately. Be thankful your family is just feuding and not doing illegal activities against one another like mine. If you ever need to vent or need advice, feel free to PM me. I have been through just about anything and everything someone can with family members!!!!

Carrie -Ahhhh the fair. I work in the Fair Industry, so this time of year is one of my favorites!!!! I prefer Cheeseburgers and Fried Cheese Curds!!!

Krista - Is it really your Birthday this time???? Happy Birthday! :cheer2:

Laura - Happy Birthday to you too!!

OK, gotta go. I have to set up round one of interviews. It's Finally HERE!! YES!

Yawn.....good morning TEAM. Stayed up too late last night and slept in too late this morning.....hate it when that happens.

Martha - Thanks for asking about the orthodics. The chiropractor re-adjusted my orthodics, but the left one is still causing my left knee to act up. My right leg is fine. Due to an old skiing accident, that left me w/2 screws in my left knee, I think the arch is too high and is causing the knee to shift. It's extremely painful.

Sandy - Yes, I actully jog in the water, I can't go too fast but the jogging and walking in the pool seems to help. Give it a try!

Krista and Laurie - Happy birthday:bday: Did you do anything fun?

Dave - Try www.cruise411.com for discounts on cruises...I've had luck with them in the past. I use to work for Norwegian Cruise Lines, on their POA ship, and I like the fact that you can dine whenever you want. Check them out too.

Judy - Good luck w/your stepson...I feel you pain girl because we went through something like that with our youngest. He knew his girlfriend for 2 mths. before she became pregnant....beautiful baby...but now they aren't seeing each other. Anyhoot, good luck.

I'm trying to convince my friend, Monica, to walk a full w/me in Sept. but after Leadville's marathon she has definately backed off. I don't know why???:rotfl: lol. I maybe walking the Boulder Backroads alone. Rats. Oh well, time to walk on my tm for an hour.

Happy training TEAM:banana:

Good morning Wish Team!!! Thanks for all the birthday wishes!! (Yes, Jen, it REALLY is my birthday this time, although I wish it wasn't--it's my last one. 29. :sad2: ) I skipped my xt last night, Stephen told me that I wasn't allowed to come home tonight until at least 6:30. :confused3 So, I'm heading to Gold's to run on the TM there. I was planning on going there last night to xt, but since I'm going tonight, I just went home. I did clean the house, so I guess that was my xt for the week. ;)

SW Dave--Wow! Such drama!!! for your wife!! Your cruise sounds awesome!! You are a good husband! :thumbsup2

Carrie--You want cotton candy? I can get it for you ANY TIME you want!! I smell flossugar (sugar that makes the cotton candy) as soon as I walk in the door at work. Oh, and it's wicked humid here too, you can feel the moisture in the air as soon as you walk out the door.

Jen--Good luck!!!!!!!!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Judy--:wizard: for Charlie!!!!!! Think about this, my parents got married when there were 18 and they are getting ready to celebrate their 41st anniversary, so hopefully it will all work out for you step son. Can you try talking them into a long engagment?? How's your foot?

Stephanie--You were not having a good day yesterday!!!! Hopefully today is better!!!! :wizard: :wizard:

Sorry I can't hang around much today, I am swamped at work! I'll try to be back later.

And as long as we are looking for Kevin, where is Christa? And Bree???

Kristi- I love that Jedi Mickey picture in your siggy. Can you send me a copy? Also, is this the big Target toy clearance? Because I've been wanting to do some x-mas shopping x-training too.

Dave, I made that for you! WWDave posted the original Jedi Mickey and I snagged it and "personalized it". Glad you like it.

Again, I've been MIA. I want to catch up with everyone, but I just can't. I feel the same way SWDave mentioned-- I feel badly posting when I don't know what's going on with everyone and can't reply to everyone. But I can vouch for Carrie's post-- she will find you if you're missing;)

Mel-- Thanks for the med lesson. I looked at a picture and saw the spinous process and the lamina (another word I heard repeatedly).

Well I'm unwired:sad1: The pain is back full force AND I have to do another trial for the right side. I pleaded with the dr to just schedule the real procedure but since they had so much trouble on the left side he wants to have the practice on the right side before the real thing. The first available apt is Aug 16-- a full month away. I'm not happy about that, but at least I know there's hope not too far down the road. It will probably be mid-Sept now before I get the real thing. That pretty much means no '08 running but at least my reg. guarentees entry in '09 right?

I did a 6 mile run yesterday. Yesterday was my first day I could shower after the trial so I made sure to get nice and sweaty:rotfl:

Kristi-- I hope you are doing better with the new script. What's the name of that campground? Geesh, all these years we've been roughin' it in the state parks (Lafayette is our favorite).

Judy-- before I could give you a pep talk after your down post, you were back with the usual "Judy Sunshine" after your cort. cocktail. I'm so happy it worked out for you!

Sunny

Hello, WISHers!

Not a whole lot of time, but I want to give a couple quick shout-outs:

:bday: to Krista and Laurie. Krista - 29?!? Ha! I didn't even start running until I was 39!

Welcome back to Dona! I was really hoping you'd pop back in!

SW Dave - Yikes! You make me happy to have the out-laws (I mean in-laws;) ) that I have. The drama level has dropped over the years.

Rest day -- unless you count moving furniture from room to room and from the 2nd floor to the basement xt!

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Hi everyone!

Sunny: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: for you. I know you can use it.

Posted by Judy: Howard - Interesting news...I'm glad you have an answer. Maybe I should get mine checked too....

Judy ~ It never hurts to get it checked as part of normal blood work. In my case, for some reason they didn't order it for my last test (December 2006) so it's gone unchecked since June 2006! :sad2:

Posted by Carrie: Howard - So glad you got your answers!!!

Thanks Carrie! I took my first elevated dose today (112 mcg). I am not feeling much different just yet. :rolleyes1

Posted by Kristi: Howard - I have thyroid issues also. My endocrinologist told me last year the new high is 3.7. I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on tv, but I just wanted to throw that out there. I personally function MUCH better as close to a 1 as I can get. So, when I am up to about a 3, they up my dose. Here's to more Synthroid! Somehow I keep convincing myself that my problem is that my thyroid is off, but then I still test ok.

Posted by Mel: I play thyroid doctor all day, every day (except for those few patients where I still get to dabble in osteoporosis ) 'Normal' is controversial in the thyroid world. Most labs still say up to 5 is ok, but the thyroid specialty organizations are pushing to lower that to 3 for the general population. For folks who are treated with thyroid meds, keeping levels between 0.3 and 2.5 is recommended with some exceptions. But, we treat the patients not just the numbers, so the rules aren't hard and fast. Best thing is when you have a patient like Kristi who has an idea of where levels feel best for them.

Kristi and Mel: Thanks to you both for your information and input. I think my doctor needs to revise his "max/min" levels. :sad2: This makes me feel even more over the maximum than I should be. I have a feeling I'll need more than just the bump up to 112 from 100 mcgs after my first 30 days and subsequent blood work.

Posted by Craig: Best to my health-challenged buddies, particularly fellow manly man Howard. Enjoy your trip and cruise. You deserve it.

Craig: Thank you, what I have to deal with with my thyroid is a trifle compared to many of the challenges others here and around the world face every day. I will do my best to relax and enjoy the company of my lovely bride and beautiful DD on my vacation. I am planning a jaunt around the POFQ area on Saturday.

Posted by Lilly: Howard, glad you got it figured out and WISHing you speedy metabolism!

Lilly: Thank you! A speedy metabolism would be a welcome occurrance. Enjoy your weekend! I am looking forward to seeing you in Chicago!! :woohoo:

Posted by Monte: Howard - Good luck w/your thyroid problem, my DH has been dealing w/the same issue for years!

Monte: Thank you, it looks like it is a pretty common ailment around here. It is funny how something so small can throw off someone's health balance.

Posted by Martha: Howard: I know you'll get your medication under control and you'll feel better. It's good to know what was wrong and that it can be fixed relatively easily.

Martha: Thanks, I am looking forward to not only feeling better, but throwing the excuse out the window and getting back to my training for the CDC.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURIE AND KRISTA!!!!!

Happy training everyone!

:grouphug:

Wanna trade places?!
(in case it doesn't come across right - I am just teasing! I'd love to trade places with you though)

Sunny
- don't you dare not keep checking in! Forget Carrie - I will come find you, ya know! We worry about you when you don't pop in, ok?

Judy - lots of  Since your stepson has only been dating this girl for 3 months, maybe this will all blow over soon enough. Just trying to be optimistic.
