Wk of Jan. 27th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi everyone! I just got back from an 8 mile run. My first LR since the marathon, and I have to say it felt good. I was worried about heading out for LR but it went well.

That Krispy Kreame race sounds crazy...not sure I could stomach eating a dozen donuts and running 4 miles!! I may have gotten sick just watching people do that...so kudos to all those that did that race yesterday!!

Sorry, don't have more time to catch up..I will check in later!

Susie - I may consider a mini-tri, but I am not a very fast swimmer. DH wants to do a tri, he is a good swimmer and biker but can't run at all. After his knee surgery in June the doctor said no more running over a 5K. OK to be honest, DH was never a runner to begin with. He walked/ran a 5K in April last year... his first and last. So I am telling him to smoke the swimming and biking and walk the running part!!!!

I was wondering if anyone did the KK Challenge. So Jeanne, did you carry the donuts 2 miles to the finish? Did you get a cool shirt for doing it??

Chris - Great Job on your run!

Maura, Allyson and Julie - Welcome. Way to go on your training. Just stick with a program and you'll be fine!

Cruella - You go, Girl! I Wish I could get my body to be that ambitious!:worship:

Jen - I'm hoping to increase my running intervals and do less walking, too. It seems that when I take my walk breaks, especially in longer distance races, I have a hard time running again. The body doesn't want to move.

Dave -pixiedust: Sending PD for your hurts! I'm always willing to provide my expertise. Ask your Philly questions! I'll be at the Philly Marathon cheering on any Wishers who are coming, provided there is not an Eagles home game (gotta cheer on my other team, too! :) ) I don't think I'm entering this event because I'm planning on doing the 1/2 at the inaugural San Antonio event, the week before.

Susie - Yes, come do the Philly Distance Run. I'm planning on SA, too. If you do the Philly race and any other RnR event, they send you a cool Liberty Bell Dynamic Duet medal. :cool1: I'm not doing the Nike event this year.

Martha - hope you're feeling better. Tell DD :bday: I love the Cheesecake factory, too!

Kira - :wave2: Hi neighbor! I think I'll be joining you for the Distance Run!

OK, since I put my marathoning career on hold, I'm going to focus on 1/2's and shorter races this year to build up my endurance more and increase my running segments. Eventually, I'd be thrilled if I could run (however slowly) the entire 1/2. My membership in the 50/50 club (50 marathons in 50 states) will have to wait. So I figure I'd try for the 50/50 for half marathons (gotta have a goal, so why not?) If I get better at the running I can always add the marathons back in and go for their 50/50. That should keep me working towards a goal for the rest of my life  .

So after looking at races on-line and trying to figure what my body and budget could afford for this year, I've come up with this tentative schedule (all but 2 are within driving distance, so it won't break the budget):

June 08 Local 10K race (I can warm up for this by walking the 1 mile from my house to the start/finish area) :)

June 08 Philadelphia Sprint Triathlon (If I can convince myself to jump in the Schuylkill River)

August 08 SheRox Triathlon (see above)

August 08 Tri the Wildwoods Triathlon (much happier swimming in the ocean) ;)

Sept. 08 Philadelphia Distance Run

October 08 Atlantic City 1/2 Marathon (the event is celebrating it's 50th year)

November 08 Inaugural San Antonio Marathon and 1/2 (I'm doing the 1/2)

I'm thinking about doing the RnR Arizona 1/2 in January 09. Sadly, that will mean no WDW event for me :sad2: But I think I need a break to take the pressure off so I'll be ready for the Goofy in 2010.

I was wondering if anyone did the KK Challenge. So Jeanne, did you carry the donuts 2 miles to the finish? Did you get a cool shirt for doing it??

Wendy, John and I all carried the donuts back....as did most of the participants. KKs usually come in these big flat boxes so the glaze doesn't rub off, but yesterday we got the dozen in more compact boxes that were easier to carry. Most runners just put them under their arm (yeecchh), but we came prepared with little drawstring bags. Everybody who participated got a nice white T-shirt that said Krispy Kreme Challenge and listed the sponsors.
The people who actually ate the doughnuts got a nice green one that said something like "I completed the KKC". I guess that was their version of a finishers "medal". Trust me, I think alot of those people were able to complete the run faster than the time it took them to eat the doughnuts. I came in just about at the hour mark and there were alot of runners after me that were going into the doughnut eaters chute. I hope they all got the shirt even if it took them more than an hour. I'm not sure how strict they were about that but maybe Wendy knows.

That looks cool! My $$$ is the problem. I would race every weekend if my budget would allow it.
Ran 15 yesterday. I can tell that was the longest run I have done this year.

I am a little torn about signing up for a miles team. I get in plenty of miles in...but I can see me forgetting to post them. What do you guys think?

I would also like to order two of the shirts when we are ready to order.

Does anyone know how you find out for sure that you are registered for the Marathon/ Half Marathon for Disney? I thought there was a confirmation page, but I don't see it.

Today has been a nice family day so no running or walking for me.

So this morning Mom and I went over to the gym for a 30 minute workout. Well I really seemed overdressed, capris and 2006 Donald shirt. I over heated about 15 min into my run, GRR, I guess that teaches me. From now on I will take a short sleeve top and short to the gym. But I did remember to bring water this time. I went right about 5k in my 35 minutes, even with the over heating issues. I then went out into the 30 degree weather to try to cool down a bit, it worked.

Terri- It looks like a good race schedule to me.

Howard- Good luck training this semester.

Mel- Thank you for doing all the leg work for the new shirts.

This week has been going better than last, school work is getting better. Welcome to all the new Wish team members.

:goodvibes Good afternoon Team:goodvibes

All I want to say is here I go, wish me luck!!! As soon as DH gets back from his LR - off I go.

My first run - second time around. WISH me luck, I will repeat to myself

"JUST TAKE IT EASY" But you guys have to understand, THAT'S NOT IN MY VOCABULARY :confused3

Check in when I get back

angie

Christy...did you used to live in Brevard County or am I making that up?

Me Christy?? If so, nope, I have always lived in either Orange or Seminole County (well, since I was 2 anyways):)

I did my first cardio today--7.66 miles on the bike and 2 miles (walking) on the treadmill. It felt good, now I just have to keep it up.

Lily--if my chance your DH mentions the crazy WISHer's child who attacked him in the Laundry room, I might know who that was:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Good afternoon WISHers!

Was able to get in 2 miles on the TM this afternoon. The ball of my left foot is still pretty tender. Guess I need to toughen up the new skin.

Other than that, a pretty boring Sunday afternoon. No racing, no football. :confused3 Boring! :rotfl:

Y'all take care.

:)

Chris--Great job on your run today, I can not even imagine those temps!

Terri--I do about 1 race per month, but in the summer, when it is a million degrees out, there are not a lot of races around here, so I am stuck on the treadmill

Allyson--I LOVE the Couch to 5K program, I will never forget how great I felt when I completed that 20 min run. Me the girl who could not run a mile in high school (40 pounds ago), could run almost 2 without stopping.

Sandy--I hope you had a great run!

Dave--Good Luck finding the source of your pain and fast healing!

Martha--Get well soon!!

Julie--WELCOME!!!!!! It sounds like you are doing great!!!

I will have to catch up with everyone else in a bit, gotta get the boys to Church for Choir practice!

Hello...my name is Amy....and I'm a slacker.

STILL trying to get back into running since Goofy! I've been getting my core work in (approx 8 hours of pilates/yoga) and one sad little 2 mile run....but that's about all I can say. SOOOO...this week I will get back into the swing of things and try to post a solid week of training. Wish me luck! ;)

Angie: Hope the run went well. :goodvibes

Terri: OMG...I'm doing the SheRox too :thumbsup2 . I just got talked into it by my SIL. I'm scared as heck. The swimming makes me super nervous. I'm a decent swimmer but not a competitive swimmer. Yikes!!!

Christa and Matt: thanks guys for the tri training advice. I'm nervous...but I think I'm taking the plunge. My crazy SIL is talking me into it.

Laurie: You rock...way to get out there girl. :cool1: Nope...you didn't see me out there on the trail because I'm a big huge slacker. :rolleyes1

Can I borrow some of the Wish Team's motivation??? You guys are all amazing...great job getting the runs in team. Can anyone loan me some motivation? Please ;)

No training for me this weekend. My official Minnie training starts tomorrow. I bought John Bingham's "Training for Mortals" logbook, and I put in all my training information today. I look forward to getting back into training mode. I just wanted to stop in and say hi to all my WISH team friends. :wave2:

Hey guys - just checking in, feel like total fraud though as have not run a step since Goofy and have no races planned yet for the whole year.

I am going to join a new running club tomorrow night though as I have finally found one near here that works with my scheduling, isn't too fast and has beer - I did try and join them before Xmas, turned up in the pub in my shorts (have I ever mentioned Sydney is a very formal city - flat shoes are dressed down here) and no-one else arrived! Seems like membership has picked up since then though - Tim is even thinking about coming as they have a 2k, 3k and 5k run so he can start with the little one.

I'm thinking maybe I should joint the miles challenge, but I've got to get off the weight I gained goofy training (why can't I be one of those people who loses weight doing distance!!!) so that means short fast runs and weights for the next six weeks so I'mnot sure how much I'll contribute... will go check things out now (tho I'm supposed to be working, it's a public holiday here and we have friends coming round this afternoon to play Rockband on PS2 - it's not out here until April so Tim is suddenly Lord Gamer of Sydney as he bought it in Florida). Helen

Hello Everyone!

Just checking in. I'm getting back into it, post Marathon Weekend; 15 miles last week (all on the treadmill)

Jeff - thank you for sharing - those photos are fantastic - they show such joy!!! and I have to add - - envy!! aloha indeed!!

I want at least 2 shirts - but if they're going to be totally redesigned, maybe 4!!! unless they'll be redesigned for 2010 - you people are going to make dh push me to going in '09!!!

Jeff the pictures are no longer available... :( I wanted to show dh your pictures - will you make them available again??? please??

Hey kids- just another Goofy slacker reporting in!:rolleyes1

I managed 3 miles with Harry in the stroller today. It was really, really slow, but I think my IT band is better- it still hurts a bit, but nothing like it did. So, since Goofy, I've run I think 5 miles. Maybe 6.;)

Here's the best part of my day: DH and I volunteered to help for a fundraiser at church. Those of you up north, start laughing now. We're raising money to have these guys blow in snow out of this huge truck for a "snow party." They did it last year and all the kids loved it- they had no idea they were playing in a giant snow cone! Back to my point: one of the other women helping out started talking about a half she'd run, so of course, I had to meander over and talk about Disney. Then this woman who is totally intimidating (ran Boston!) but very nice started talking about how I'd run Goofy. They both wanted to know all about the races. My family stopped listening at least a week ago, so it was great!:cloud9:

Oh, and we made spaghetti plates with bread, salad, and cookies- did an assembly line thing. I put DH in charge of the noodles and sauce. I was in charge of cookie/brownie distribution. I ate the broken ones, because they wouldn't look good in the plates but people did donate them, and they shouldn't have gone to waste...:rolleyes1 So I was eating cookies and talking running and my kids were in children's church- could my morning have been any better?! ;) We sold the plates for $8 each and made over $850- the snow party is on!:thumbsup2

I tried to catch up with everyone, as I just know I can't do so as the thread progresses, though I will be reading and posting. It sounds like we're all making progress. Happy and healthy training this week, everyone.

Mel: Thanks for the update on the shirts, doing all the legwork and all. I know I'll be in for a least a couple, and am still trying to talk DH into joining our merry little group; I think he's intimidated by my descriptions of how social everyone is. Oh, I continue to be awed that you, or anyone, can run in humidity at all!

Chris: Congratulations on the 9-miler! And double congrats for enjoying it.

Terri: I'm doing the transition to running, too, for some of the reasons Mel mentioned in her post. I found it really hard to keep with the intervals the longer I was on the course. With my pace, it won't make a huge difference in my time, but I *think* my legs might feel less tired. I'd like to hear what others say about this.

Allyson: Congrats on your first day and the baby steps!!! It sounds like you have a real handle on things.

Maura: Great workout! Maybe you could write the Today show with some programming requests. ;)

Cruella de Mom: Thanks for the info. I too was wondering what kind of schedule might (eventually) be do-able for me. It sounds ambitious, but also like you use the 1/2s as part of your training? Or as a reward for it?? Also, thanks for the info on the Peachtree; it sounds perfect!

Sandy: A beautiful day, then? I hope you had fun on the trail.

MSDave: Here's another WISH for your hip injury to subside. It sounds awful. I'm impressed with your biking, too.

Martha: I do hope your dr. figures out what's wrong and it's not too serious. Oh, and Happy Birthday to your DD!

Julie: Welcome! This place IS the best, isn't it? :cool1: You sound like you're building a good base, and have the good attitude to go with it!

Jackie: Thanks for the KK update. I told my DH about it, and he's intrigued. I think he'd do a lot of strange things for doughnuts, but this? Doh!

Jen: Your XT plan sounds like fun and a great way to spend time with family. And I hope your DH finds a tri that's easy on the knees.

GinnyFavers: Oooh, shoulder pain. I hope you're feeling better. Windwalker Dave's probably the guy to ask about arm swing and stride, so I defer to him & others more experienced. They won't steer (swing?) you wrong. I'm interested in knowing, though, how you feel the walking/Pilates combo is working; I'm tempted by Pilates, but haven't really tried it.

Kira: Thanks for the info on the Philly run scene. DH & I are new to Pgh, and it sound likes Philly offers some tasty races.

Jeanne: I totally forgot you were doing KK! Thanks for the details. Aside from the gorging, was it fun to be part of as a non-eater? Would you do it again?

Susie: I was wondering the same thing about cheating/cheaters. Why bother?

Howard: 76 miles??!! Holy smokes!

Laurie: Great job on the 8 miles--glad to hear it went well.

Christa: I can't speak for the others, but I'm enjoying to get to know you through your posts & I'd like to see you on a team!

Erin: WTG with the 5K, even in less-than-ideal conditions.

Angie: Good luck, take it easy, and I know you can do it!

Christy: Nice workout, mixing up the cardio with the bike and the treadmill! I have to force myself on a bike at the gym; it doesn't seem to fit me right in some very important areas.

Vic: Congratulations on the 2 miles, especially with that foot. My blisters are taking a long time to heal, too, but they're not in as delicate a place. I can't imagine the pain.

Amy: Slacker, yeah right. :rotfl2: I always find the core workouts are the ones I put off, which is bad I know. I'd wish you good luck on getting back in the swing of things, but you're so motivated I don't think you need it.

Heather: Good luck on the Minnie training. Let us know how you like the log book.

Helen: Running clubs and beer? A perfect combo! Now if they would just add KK doughnuts.... Seriously, I hope this club is a good match for you. I do hope you join the Miles Challenge.

Steve: Sounds like you're off on a good start with recovery. All on the treadmill, too! :scared:

Jen in GA: I hope your IT Band is feeling better. I'm always impressed by runners with strollers, as I'm not nearly that coordinated or motivated (not to mention a lack of a stroller). The snow party sounds like truckloads of fun, too!

As for me: Another day of low-impact cardio, mostly elliptical. But I have discovered how much I love the rowing machine. No wait, in the least-claustrophobic part of the gym, makes my back feel good!

DH and I went to the bookstore today, looking for books on running & nutrition. Nothing. I found lots of other running books that I'd like to get into but don't know where to start. (I own, and love MfM, but am curious about others.) Does anyone have any book suggestions, running & nutrition, motivational, otherwise? Also, if you know of any good books for runners/ vegetarians I'd appreciate a title. Thanks!

Hello all! I'm trying to decide if I should train for what is said to be the last Minnie, or schedule knee surgery. It's a huge dilemma 'cause I'm not sure if I want to miss having all of the Minnie medals, not to mention that I have add points to my score after my mother beat me last year! So, at this point we're at me- 1 and Mom- 1. Anyway, I may or may not be at the Minnie this year. Oh! I've also got a busy schedule with my honors classes and working backstage for the upcoming musical, The Wizard of Oz. I think that play has been totally overdone, but it was either that, High School Musical, or the Music Man. I have to admit that HSM really is not my favorite(Translation: I hate it!) Working backstage is going to be tough anyway, because it's such a large production that it will need a lot of extra hands.
Well anyway, gotta fly,

Really Confused,
