Wk of Jan. 20th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I worked out at the gym yesterday - 10 min bike, 2 mile TM run, 10 min bike. My hip was bugging me some so I didn't push it too much. In fact, it's bugging me still this morning. I think it's because I couldn't use the stick on it yesterday.

Thank you everyone for voting on my photos. The contest goes on until the end of Feb. I may be begging for some more votes later.

I'm teaching again today (Tues, Thurs schedule). Judy- I'm teaching Research Methods in the Psychology department. Not, the most exciting course, but it gets my foot in the door.

I was able to pick up a copy of Marathoning for Mortals yesterday and started reading it last night. So far I really like it!

Samsam, I am a complete newbie and they let me in! We can encourage each other!

We still need a couple more athletes to sign up for the miles game, to even out the teams.

The game will start on Feb 1st and run untill Dec 31st. You log any miles you go under your own power, run/walk/bike/swim/treadmill/ski...... also hours exercised so if you are an athlete that only run/walks a couple of days a week but does yoga, aerobics ect.. classes or exercise tapes at home you can log your hours exercised.

At the January events there will be prizes for the team with the most miles and the team with the most hours. If you can't make the January events your prize will be mailed to you. We are talking a "major prize", like in Christmas Story.

The goals of the competition are to:

Have fun

Get to know our new members

Help stay motivated

Thanks

Ooooh, a major award!!! Cool. Maybe it will be a bowling alley. Oh, wait, how would you mail a bowling alley? Well, maybe you could mail the deed . . .

Can you tell how my family spends the 24-hours of christmas every year? :happytv:

Good morning everyone!

Well, I took the plunge! I signed myself and my husband up for the WDW Half next January. :cool1: The kids all want to go too (I'd thought of this as a trip for just my husband and me), so we'll see what makes the most sense - they'd all have to miss some school.

And I also signed myself up for the Philadelphia Distance Run in September (also a half marathon)! This seems even more real since it is so much closer. I've e-mailed my brother and challenged him to join me.

I am really, really excited!

Thank you. I think joining would be good for my motivation, but it seems that most on this thread are much more competitive and experienced than I am and I definitely don't want to let a team down because of my inexperience. However, if newbies, with no experience are welcome, I would love to join.

Luckily newbies are totally welcome, or I wouldn't be on a team either! Jump in wherever you are because every mile (or hour) counts!

I am going to reinforce the Panda post a couple back. All you new members should come on over to the Miles Game post and join in the fun. There has been promise of motivation, prizes and trash talking. Who could resist that??? It will be a GREAT way to meet lots of people on the boards and I am sure true personalities will come out...right Bill???? Right Mr. Panda????

Also, I am in search of Kristi1357 and Chad, Pungodingy (Angie), Cruella de Mom (Cecilia), Hockeygirl (Laurie) and ScubaDiver (Jim). We are a team now, come on over and give me some name suggestions for our charming bunch of misfits. Hey there's one right there, The Misfits...I certainly fit into that category!!! :rotfl:

Today, for me is 40 minutes of easy running. I am leaning toward skiing as it has been really great the past few days (Lynne I cannot believe you were biking and not skiing) and I love being outside sooooooo much more than being inside. I have the next 4 hours to think on it. ;)

Everyone have a nice day. Get out there and put in your time today team 4 as we have to get in "practice" for the real deal February 1. Any others who have not signed up, bring it on.......we'd love to see your smiling faces!!!!! :flower3:

SamSam - The purpose of WISH is encouraging each other to be healthy. Dave has tried to balance those with more experience and who ma put in more miles with people who may do less. WHile it's a competition, teh whole prupose is to keep us all going. A game that was not for those just starting out too would be defeatign teh main purpose of WISH. Welcome!

Kira - Yay for taking the plunge!

Just what I always wanted a "Fishnet Leg Lamp." It will look great in my new front window.

Good morning team! Oh, how I wish I were in WDW still--it's snowing and cold here, like 10 degrees I think. I know that's a heat wave for Jen!! I still haven't run since we got home, I'm just so tired when I get home all I want is my sweats (they still fit!), the couch, and a good book. I'll be 12 weeks on Monday, so hopefully I'll start to snap out of the tiredness stage.

Oh, my gosh, let me tell you how crazy the people are on ebay. Every year Disney keeps changing the sizing of their marathon technical shirts, the first year (2006) Stephen got a large shirt (not sure why, but he did) and it was HUGE on him, so last year, he got a medium shirt (which is what he wears) and it was skintight, this past marathon he ordered a large again and again it's gigantic on him. So 3 Disney marathons and zero shirts he can wear. I thought I would go on ebay and see what I could find. There was a medium full marathon technical shirt with the auction up last night. Awesome! I've been watching the auction since Monday, the entire time it was around $30. I told myself I would only spend $50 on the shirt. So last night with a minute to go and the bid at $41, I put in my bid of $45. It told me the top bid was at $65! I was like no way, so I declined to bid and by that time the auction was over. The shirt went for $86!!!! $86 for a running shirt! I couldn't believe it. Are these people crazy? And the person who won the auction probably didn't even run the marathon!

WW Dave--The miles game sounds like fun, but I think my training may be too inconsistent this year that no one would want me on their team. Especially this summer! Although we could probably count labor and delivery as cross training. :)

Jen--Congrats on going to the Minnie! That sounds like such a fun weekend, too bad it's the same time as the Flying Pig. I didn't ask you over marathon weekend, but is the situation at home getting any better?

Mel--The Eye2Eye shirts sound too good to be true! Thanks for researching this.

Angie--We're going to see The Spirit of the Marathon tonight too, hopefully we'll have time for dinner before. I guess this is the official WISH date night!

I haven't posted anything on the individual threads, but I wanted to thank everyone for posting your marathon reports. I know what a beast the marathon is and if you had the run 26.2 miles on any other day, the outcome could have been different. Be very proud of yourselves for training and keeping up with training, be very proud of yourselves for getting up in the middle of the night and getting to the start line, and be very proud of yourselves for doing the best you could in conditions that were horrible. You guys rock!!!

Krista

Krista - I think Chad already told Stephen this in FL, but just in case....you can always try to trade your shirt for another size the evening before the race. Chad ordered XL since the arm length on L is always too short for him. This year the shirts ran huge and they were way too big. He was able to swap all 3 shirts for larges on Saturday.

And, I count on the crazy eBay bidders when selling my stuff! Gotta love 'em!

Quick drive by-

I made it about 2 miles yesterday. Still kind of hurt, but better. I can't say exactly how far I went because apparently you need to charge your Garmin after the Goofy... when a Garmin says low battery, it means it!

Krista- I had to laugh at your post. I signed up for an XL shirt, which was crazy. I did get them to switch the full/half size for me, but I wasn't about to ask about the Goofy (they kept sending threatening e-mails). I just won the Goofy medium shirt on ebay for $46.00 ($50.00 was my limit too!). My justification was that I may never go Goofy again...:rolleyes1

I really don't understand why Disney doesn't sell a few things after the races by e-mail or catalog or whatever...

Have to work now!

I am so glad to hear that other people are really hungry all the time.

The other night I was eating something (for like the millionth time) and my DH looked at me funny. I said "bite me" and he said "I'm gonna have to, there is not going to be anything else left"  :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I am glad I could brighten your day:rotfl:

It was really funny and I still laugh just thinking about it. I am not sure I have ever said "bite me" before, I picked the wrong time to use it for the first time:confused3 :confused3

dissoccergrl - That is totally scary about the guy driving by and videotaping you running. Were you able to get his license plate number or anything? I'm a big wimp when it comes to all this, when I hear stuff like this it makes me even more scared to go out running. Please stay safe!

Tricia - Have fun at WDW! :yay: :woohoo: :yay:

All those going to see the movie - Can't wait to hear how you like it! Please give us a review. DH signed up to be notified when it goes on DVD.

dropping in real quick to say morning. I started last night, first time since getting back from marathon weekend - did 20 minutes on the TM (which a little background - I do not like), and then did a lot of stretching afterwards, which felt great!

Wishing everyone a real great day!!!

Good Morning!!!

I am counting on those crazy e-bay folks! DH is trying to sell his Harley (it goes off tomorrow in case anyone is wondering...) and I hope the price goes up a quite a bit between now and then. Let's just say this was not the smartest purchase he's ever made... It's a 2008--practically brand new! But, I am being a good wife and trying not to complain too much about it! :goodvibes

So...What is up w/ the Active site??? I am (nervously biting finger nails) trying to register DH and I for the Minnie 15K and the site has been "thinking" trying to log me in for like 5 minutes!!! ugh! I'm ready to do this!

Christy...OMG! I almost laughed out loud (at work) when I read your bite me story.

Hope everyone has a good day!

OMG! That's hysterical! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Mel - That is really scary. Please speak with your neighbor soon.

Well, I jinxyed myself. My first 3-miler post marathon went well. 30 min last night was an eternity. Ugh.
