Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Can y'all believe it's been a whole week since marathon weekend?

Sandy...welcome back. We'll keep your family in our thoughts. :grouphug:

Tracy...sorry to hear of the loss of your uncle.

Terri...good luck tomorrow on RnR!!

Great to see all the new folks joining us for another round! Check out the Welcome to the WISH team thread for more info!

I'm back in the swing with 5 miles today...Sarasota half is in 4 weeks. I'm giving cross-training another try. DD5 has gymnastics on Tues now at the Y so I really have no excuses.:rolleyes1

Good training everyone!

Haven't run since the Half. Feeling a bit of the post race blues I think. I am jealous of all the folks signing up for next years. I would love to but don't think I can make it. DH and I discussed that we both feel like we need to have something on the horizon to keep us going with it. I feel like it will be too easy to blow off if there isn't something on the calendar. So we are going to look around for some local races taking place in the spring (too darn cold right now) and hopefully that will help!

Hope next week to hop on the old treadmill again.

Allyson :)

Allyson - I haven't had a chance to read through the race report thread yet - how did the half go for you? I'm definitely the same, if I don't have a race on the horizon, I have a really hard time staying motivated.

Tracy - I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle. I, too, didn't know about him until just now. :grouphug:

Sandy - I just said a prayer for your son. I hope he is doing better now. :grouphug:

I don't have any training to report. Just came on to say "hi". :wave2:

Tracy - So sorry to hear about your uncle. Your family is in my prayers

Sandy - You know I've been praying for you. If you need me, call me. ;)

Tracy and Sandy- Prayers for both of you

I'm happy to report that my first week of training is over and I'm still able to move :rotfl: It started with walking which was easy, when I moved into my first day of jogging I was thinking... "I must be crazy, why did I think I could do this"... day two of jogging I didn't want to do and almost didn't because I thought it was too cold. But after some pushing from dh I got out there and after my jog I was so glad I did. I actually managed to complete a full mile that day. Now on to week two :cool1:

Good morning WISHers!

It's time to get back into the groove. 5 miles are on tap for this morning.

Glad to see everyone made it home safely. Great racing reports.

To our new teammates - :welcome:

Sandy321 - Welcome back!

I added a section in the race calendar for those racing and volunteering over WDW marathon weekend. It's titled "Happy."

:)

Sandy - good to hear your son is doing better. I am praying that he continues to get better and that he gets to a place that is better for him.

Jeff - thanks for the pics of Hawaii - although we aren't too bad temperature wise here in south Florida. Actually I am planning on getting out for my first run post marathon. I have my capri running pants I wore last week and a new sleeveless top my mom got me. Its about 60F right now.

Welcome to all our new members. Were off to a GREAT year.

I feel the same way Allyson!

WELCOME to a new week!!!!

Mel - I was just telling my kids this morning... one week ago today we were eating breakfast and getting ready to leave WDW. So sad!!!

Good Luck with all those runs today everyone. We finally got over our artic weather (well it's still only in the teens here). The kids were off 2 days of school because the wind chills dropped to -40 degrees. Yup, not much was happening for me on the workout end!! This is a new week and I am already looking at local races I can do. Now that I am not working full time, it may be easier to try to make some of these.

thank you WISHfamily!

I cant wait to get home and start training - I need to get outside! Our son seemed better yesterday, his CT scan was "normal" The doctor thinks he can be released in "a day or two"... Ryan still needs prayers, I'm wondering if the release is part of the "5 day rule"... Monday is his 5th day in the hospital.

I feel comforted, and at peace, I feel surrounded by the peace of the Lord, thank you for your prayers!!

Sandy & Tracy - :grouphug:

I also can't believe it's been a week already! Chad is already signed up for Goofy #5. I am debating doing the half (sitter issues, disney charging WAY too much, etc.), but probably will sign up eventually.

In the meantime, looking for some local races to keep me motivated. I am 99% sure I will do the Great Bay (NH) race in April again. There is a half in Hampton, but I doubt I am that crazy! February in NH at the Beach? :scared: I will probably just concentrate on the April race and really kicking it up in the Weight Watchers dept. again.

Today / tonight I plan on breaking out the new Wii Fit and get my Jillian Michaels workout going.

I have a question for you training veterans. I'm going to do the 2010 half and need to train. I bought Marathoning for Mortals and I'd like to Run/Walk the half. As someone who has walked a lot, but never really ran, do you think I should first do the walk training and get used to the mileage, or jump into the walk/run and get used to the running? Since it's so far away, I guess I could do both of these before I do the ACTUAL training for the Run/Walk, which I planned to do in the weeks leading up to the actual race.

If anyone understands what I just asked, I'd love your opinions. Thanks from a newcomer! :wave2:

I don't know if this is a little OT or not, but I've been doing more research on the 2010 marathon weekend and saw events for kids. If I'm doing the half will I be able to get my kids 1 and 4 to do the kid races? Also if anyone has gone to the little ones races do a lot of parents run with their kids? (my 4 year old has ASD and he loves to run, but doesn't always understand everything, like waiting to start and when to stop and what not). Thanks in advance
I'm loving this group and the running, I feel so good already, and it's only been a week. :)

WOW off to another week.

I didn't train today, Sunday's my "Day of Rest":rotfl2: Did "try" to clean up. I have a new maid service coming tomorrow so I have to clean for the cleaners!:rotfl:

JPFamilyMom, My understanding is that parents are not suppose to run with the kids. There was a vent on here about the volume of parents who did this year. It seemed the poster felt it created quite a "road block" issue. Not sure what to tell you, but thought I would warn you.

Jenthemom, I did the run walk (or walk run) throughout my training so it's what I would recommend. It was harder for me to get used to the running then the distance! :upsidedow

As for me, I am pretty sure we are doing the Breast Cancer in Jacksonville in Febuary. Randy's doing the full and I am doing the half. That's keeping me motivated after Disney... FEAR. I have to do this again! After that it's the Country Music in April. I have paid for that one so I am going!

Thanks Carol. I guess I'll start off with the Walk/Run and see how it goes. I have lots of time (at least that's what I'm telling myself!) so I'm sure I'll get through it. Tomorrow is Day 1 of my training! :cool1:

I'm joining in after seeing all the Wishers last weekend. I ran today for the first time since the 1/2. Much less exciting running in my basement on my treadmill than it was running down main street USA.
Someone at work asked me if I wanted to sign up for the Chicago marathon. I said no. There is nothing less appealing than the idea of running 26 miles through the streets of Chicago. But I am thinking about the full next year.... Disney running seems like something completely different than running anywhere else.

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words on last weeks thread! It really helps me.

I have been pushing myself to run (jog) which I never do. I am an ok walker but have not been in the gym since last summer. I decided I need to get myself up to speed on the walking before I kill myself trying to jog. I do have a year so I am going to take it a month at a time for now.

I don't know what happened with some of the WISH families (tracy & sandy) but I saw the hugs and well wishes and wanted to send more good thoughts & prayers your way.

Good luck to the newbies like me getting started! And thanks again to the veterans for helping us out!

I recommend taking it slow, whatever you choose. You have plenty of time to "train" for the 1/2. You should start slowly and not worry about time or distance, simply get your body moving and put some steps in. The last thing you want to do is go too far or too fast too soon and risk injury.
