Wk of Feb 25--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi heather-- I'm sorry you have been battle bronchitis for so long. Hope you are 100% soon.

Attn: NE WISHers
Anyone intersted in the 93rd Lexington 5 miler on Patriot's Day? If you wanted, you could arrive early or stay late and see the Rev. War reinactiment, too. Another plus of the race is you get to see some strange running shoes: bare feet wrapped in duct tape, socks wrapped in duck tape and straight bare feet! The post race food is great. Many local restaurants supply great food. Plus you get to see the "infamous" Lexington I alwaya babble about!!!!!!

Heather: Hope you are feeling better soon:wizard:

Sunny: Thanks for the advise, yes April 1st is my first 10K I thought it would give me some confidence going into the Minnie weekend. I am feeling good about my training but am of 2 minds. 1 if I only do every other day will I lose what I have already done, like will it be just as hard as the first time I did it. But if I go every day it might get easier but will I over work my legs??? Does any of that make sense????

Sunny: Also sorry to hear you are in so much pain, i hope they can do something for you soon.

Kim

Hi all! No way I can keep up, so forgive me if I missed you. :grouphug:

Anne - Yes, we got hit again. It was about 4 inches, but I think if it had been dry, it would hhave been closer to 6. So, we're TMing it tonight. :(

Jen - COngrats on teh 10:50!!! (Please do not let my post below take anythign away from your awesome split!!!!) Hope you're feeling better soon!

Martha - :grouphug: Very cool! I NEVER thougth I could help inspire Craig!

Krista - Yup, LRs that are les than 10 miles are heavenly. WHo'd have thunk it? ;)

Christa - What cure girls! Love teh pic! Hope you're feeing better soon!

Dave - I thin kit was the vitamin. However, if I metnally start to stress, I'll feel sick. Did that in the WDW heat last this year and I did it on an uphill in the Ice Fest. Hope you can keep it from coming back! BTW - Yourr daddy camp last weeke sounded awesome!

mel - Thecompression pants in my skirt seemed fine, but I think they used a heavier material w/the stripes. :confused3 Let me know when to PayPal my order in. ;) BTW, my mobile scream team will have guests over teh weeknd and will nto make it to your race. They said to tell you good luck!

Matt - :cheer2: :cheer2:  :cheer2: :cheer2: Congratulations!!!!!

Stephanie - Funny, the taper is about the only time I can control my eating. I anm an anomaly, though. Good luck. be good to that foot this week! Missing work outs now will not hurt you at all.

Sunny - Sorry to hear you're nowhere near pain free yet. :(

Heather - take care of yourself! Hope you're doing better soon!

Well, we did 6 miles at teh ILs this weekend. It was COLD and windyeast it was not on the TM. My goal was slow and easy, but I felt pretty good, so I started a little fast.

1 - 10:50
2 - 11:05
3 - 11:10
4 - 11:45 (VERY windy, direct hit to face)
5 - 11:00
6 - 10:30!!!!!

11:05 ave (please don't check calcs, as my 2 and 5 miles splits may be off) With the wind factor, I was happy. Felt good to do a little distance again.

I hope all our northeastern teammates are doing ok and all our other teammates fared wll through teh 2-sided storm!

:rolleyes1 There's a reason I talked about everything under the sun, besides the 7 miles...and here I thought I got away with it! :rolleyes1

So it was a test to see if anyone actually reads the posts about what people are planning to do. I guess that all but one person failed that little quiz you gave us. :rotfl:

Bill

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes!:goodvibes

Re: my weightloss - thanks for congrats! I lost it through exercise, low carb-low calorie and more exercise

I'm up to about 7 miles on the treadmill. I'm hoping to start running outside when it gets warmer! I'm a walk/runner, but hope to jog/run the 1/2!

ttyl and I hope everyone is doing well:hippie:

Bill
Yup, you all failed! :lmao:
I am going to do the 7 miles today though, if it kills me.
I was all set to go yesterday, then Chad came out in his running clothes & said he was going out. While he was gone, I lost all motivation and decided to catch up on Grey's Anatomy instead. :rolleyes1

Greetings Team -

I did five miles on the TM, all at 3.8 @ 1% on Saturday. This morning I did 45 @ 1% with 30 @ 3.8 then 15 @ 4.0. Then I shoveled snow for 45 minutes.

Vic - Did you take your NASCAR nap yesterday? I thought it was a pretty good race! Hey, what happened to your picture and signature? I thought that was a great picture. Was someone stalking you? Did you have to remove it for security reasons? Are you undercover now? :upsidedow

Jen - O M G !! You so totally rock! :woohoo: Oh no! You poor thing. Well, at least you're on meds now.

Mel - They were sheer???? :scared1: We haven't done a vow renewal but then again we've only been married a year and a half. :cloud9:

Cam - Oh I'm glad you got outside. I haven't been able to and it's killing me.

Dena
- Oh I hope you are OK. I have to admit, you made me laugh. "something female related".

Dave - Please translate.... "the wind kicked no chickens" This is a Southern thing? I don't think you're a nerd for wearing your Garmin sledding! I think it's a cool idea! Oh no, you're not going to try to make your own running skirt now, are you? :rotfl:

Oh Jim! That's great! :woohoo: An exact tie! :rotfl:

Christa
- Gosh, I don't think you look "rough" at all! I think you look cute and happy! Oh no, I'm sorry you're not feeling well. pixiedust:

Oh Bill! Ha ha ha! What a reputation I've got! :lmao: Now I'll never get invited to anyone's house!

Terri -

Matt - OMG! Thats so fast! :worship: Congratulations on the new PR!

Let me chime in here on a couple of things.....

Crocs - I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Crocs! Cam suggested I put a pair in the check-in bag for after the Half this year. And although they did not help me stay upright, my feet were very happy. Excellent idea, Cam! :thumbsup2

Besides my husband, I know of no one else at all who does anything for exercise. Sad, isn't it? I think after finishing the Half though, I am at least getting my "props" for getting out there and gettin' it done. Friday night my farrier called and said he would like to come by Saturday morning. He said "I know you have your long run on Saturday, so what time will you be done?" It was great to get sort of validated by someone, KWIM? :goodvibes

Kohl's (department store) had been having a huge clearance sale so I went there this weekend and got two Hi-Tek running shirts, sleeveless with a v-neck. They are FABULOUS! And I paid $9.00 each! One is almost lime. It's actually more seafoam-ish. They are sooo comfortable!

:offtopic:
If you have been following the Mist saga.... I contacted the American Quarter Horse Association to find out a little on her background. Seems she was born in GA and moved to NY then to Texas then back to NY. I knew she was a southern horse by the way she reacts to snow. I also found out she has done barrel racing, team penning and stock penning (Which I had to look up. Same idea as team penning I guess, just less cows). Now, I have never ridden western in my life, except at WDW, but I am very excited to find all this out! This means that yes she has been trained and is rideable! YAY! One previous owner I spoke to told me she was actually very fast and really excelled at barrel racing. They were horrified to find out what she had been thru, though. I promised to email them pictures, and told them she was in her very last home. That I'd have her until the end. And that even if I go first, I have made arrangements for her care. They were very happy to hear that.

OK, let me pretend like I actually care about my job. Although is hardly anyone here today. :surfweb:

Judy, Can I ask on the history of Mist? We use to have a quater horse, his name was Lucky, he was just a pet so to speak so no racing or anything.

Yep. Took my nap and didn't miss a thing. The races from California and Michigan aren't very exciting, IMO.

As far as my signature goes, I received a warning from the "Signature Police" a while back for having too many lines. ::cop: So, I removed it. Lord knows I didn't want them showing up at my front door with a warrant or something. ;) I have modified it, so hopefully I'll be off double secret probation soon. (I'm such a smart a$$)

Great job on your training this weekend.

Glad you were able to find some history on Mist.

Matt - Great job!

All - Great job on your training and races.

To the sickies - Get well.

To the injured - Get well.

:)

Hi everyone!

It's been a while since I've posted. I'm almost too ashamed to post since I've been a MAJOR slacker since the half at WDW in January. I don't know why but my body and mind have been rebelling against all of this exercising and eating better that I did before the half.  However, I'm ready to get back on track. After all, I've got a marathon to train for (WDW, '08)! Geez, I hope I can still do it. I've really had a tough time with motivating myself. Sounds like I need to get that book that Mel mentioned. I need some mental training.

Also, like some of you, I really don't have friends (that live close by) that are into exercising much so I'm on my own for the most part. I did join a running club but these folks are way too fast for me. I need some S-L-O-W pokes to run with me. :tiptoe:

As for upcoming races, I am participating in a half-relay in Little Rock this next weekend. This is the same race that Stephanie, nucpharm29, is running in except that she will be doing the full marathon. I'll try to get some pics of you, Stephanie, as you zip by me. :thumbsup2 I'll be wearing the WISH shirt so you should be able to spot me. :teeth: Come to think of it, I'll probably be on the sidelines cheering you on while I wait for my partner to finish the first leg of our relay. Good thing we have lots of time to finish this race or I'd be up a creek.

Matt - congratulations on your new PR! :thumbsup2

Terri - hope your surgery goes well and you're back to training in no time. Let us know how it goes. By the way, are you the one who is/was thinking about doing the Nike Women's Half in October?

Kim - good luck on your training. I really don't have any advice as I feel like I'm still a newbie to all of this and I really can't offer much at this point. However, it sounds like you are on the right track.

Judy - so glad you and Mist have each other. I get teary-eyed just thinking about what she's been through but thankful that she has you in her life now. :goodvibes

Kristi - do you still have the bail money, if needed? :rotfl2:

Good luck to all of you who have races this weekend. :cheer2:

To all those not feeling well or are injured - hope you get better soon. :wizard:

Happy training!

"Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."
- George S. Patton, U.S. Army General, 1912 Olympian

I received a warning from the "Signature Police"

Vic - I'm shocked! That they would come after YOU of all people... :sad2: I've seen some HUGE obnoxious signatures, on other forums, not here. Well, I'm certainly glad it's back. ;) Charlie and I are so happy it's racing season again we get all excited over any race right about now! :yay: I suppose, as the weather gets better and outside chores beckon.....we might not get to see the entire race every weekend. But for now, well, let's just say we don't even put out TV tables away! :rotfl:

Can I ask on the history of Mist?

Kim - Oh Kim.... You don't have to ask me twice! Although, a lot of people around here might be sick of hearing about her.... But they will just have to skip the rest of this post. ;)

Mist was seized two years ago by the NYS Police and taken to a rescue sanctuary, along with 20 other horses. A breeder/dealer had 70 horses in upstate New York, and she was not feeding many of them and not giving them proper medical care. Mist was 400 lbs underweight, with VERY long hoofs, rain rot, cuts, worms, two bad eye infections...you get the picture. :sad1: Plus they obviously used a very severe noseband on her. She has permanant hair loss right where the band would be. When I got her, in February last year, she would rear up at anything! She was scared and nervous and had NO manners. She would push me into the stall and try to knock me out of the way to eat. Poor thing. :sad2:

Anyway, her abuser had five criminal counts against her and several civil. The criminal trial ended in 2005 but was appealed by the sanctuary. It went to trial again last year. I went to the closing arguements and they were heartbreaking. This woman lied, put on a show of tears. It was disgusting. The "judge", and I say that in quotes because she had not gone to law school. She was the post mistress. The "judge" ruled in the abusers favor, and all the horses had to go back. At the 11th hour, my attorney made an offer to the abuser and she took it. As much as I HATED to give her money, I could not let Mist go back. So, Charlie (my DH) bought her for me for Christmas.

It breaks my heart to think of the ones that went back, and the ones that never left, and the ones that didn't make it. :sad1:

But, as a friend said to me, "You lit a candle instead of cursing the darkness." I wish I could save them all. Even more so, I wish there were none that needed saving.

Anyway...here she is.....Fat, happy, healthy and very, very loved....

Oh Judy she is beautiful, you have obviously done an amazing job with her she looks so healthy. Reading your post brought tears to my eyes. How can the judge rule in her favour. Makes me absolutley furious that she be given the "RIGHT" to own animals again. Mist is very lucky to have found you and it seems like you are very lucky to have found her. She needed you.

We can only hope she is now treating the other horses she has with the love and respect they deserve.

Thank you for sharing the story with me.

Kim

My pleasure, Kim. Thank you for asking. Sometimes when I'm training and I feel like I can't go on or something hurts or I'm really hungry...I think of her. (Lord knows I did during the Half!) Somehow it seems like whatever I'm going thru is NOTHING compared to what she suffered thru in silence. It always shuts my whining right up. She gives me strength to go on.

Actually, if you think about it...Mist is my training partner! :thumbsup2

Kristi - do you still have the bail money, if needed? :rotfl2:

Susie
- Cam had bail money for me! You better ask her. Or was it a group effort and Cam is just my attorney? I forget. Anyway, it should still be available since I didn't get in trouble for any of my Goo-stalking activities....yet. ;)

Hey all. My ear is still bugging me, I can't wait to be well again. I went to the gym at lunch and put in the steps. It was a stonker on the treadmill. I guess after 2 great runs, I deserve a stonker!

Judy - I just love seeing pics of Mist. So are you going to try to ride her? I had an Appaloosa when I was younger, until I went to college and didn't have the time needed for her. She was a great horse. I only rode western tho. My Totem (that was her name) was a jumper tho, so I assume she also rode English Style. That little bugger was good at getting out of her pasture, but we still loved her.

Carrie - Way to get out there!!! We had 9 inches of snow Saturday through last night. There was no way I was running in that!!!

Kristi - Way to cop out on the 7 miles. Too funny! I hope you get them in today!

OK, I am sleepy I just can't think of what to type. Chat with ya later!

Susie--I was wondering where you had gone! I'll definitely be on the lookout for you at the relay exchange. More than likely I"ll be in a white New Balance t-shirt and light blue shorts--with a white Nike hat-my amphipod belt-and my wonderful Brooks. The weather looks like it's going to be heavenly! 50-60s and sunny! After all the rain and wind around here it will be nice to have some pleasant conditions. It's too bad--I was just checking to see if they had a "Women Can Run" clinic near you and it looks like the closest one is in Conway. I'm going to my first clinic meeting tonight--should be fun to meet other women runners/walkers in the area. When are you headed to the Expo to pick up packets/etc??? Are you staying downtown??? I got my race brochure in the mail today and I"m trying to figure out where to park:confused3 See you race day!

Today is a rest day, so no training to report on. I was going to try to catch up with everyone and I realized that there is already 5 pages to read! So, I will do my best here!

Kristi1357-sounds like you had fun at your crop! I spent the weekend scrappin' at home and got a few pages done. I really need to find a crop in my area! Where does the KristiRed come from? I am confused!:confused3
Dena--How did it go at the doctor today? Hope all is well.
Dave-Great job on your LR this weekend! You are right, we are pretty close in pace, although I have been a bit inconsistent lately, some days I go a little faster.
TiffJ--That's awesome that you booked your cruise and WDW trip! Too bad the race is on the day you leave. WTG for getting outside for your run!!
Christy--Outback food and drinks after a race! Sounds like my kind of race! :rolleyes1
Martha--Keep up the good work with your workouts!! You are doing a great job.
Jim--WTG on your races this weekend--sounds like you and your DS had a great time! That is crazy that you tied exactly, I doubt that happens very often.
Cam--WTG for getting outside for a run this weekend! Looks like the temps are supposed to be up this week for a few days, so maybe you can get another one in outdoors this week.
Angie--SDV at Disney sounds like a lot of fun..although I have to agree with Kristi in that I couldn't imagine how I would get all my stuff down there, it would be funny!! BTW--great workout, and what a pace!! You are flying!!
Maharae--Hope you had fun with your DH on his birthday yesterday!
Jen--I hope you are feeling better soon! Hope you have fun on your quilting retreat-sounds like a fun time!
Christa--WTG on your run! Looks like you and your sister were having a great time!
Terri--I hope all goes well with your surgery on Thursday...hang in there, you will be back at your training before you know it.
Mel--WOW! you are good...I wouldn't even know where to begin in sewing any piece of clothing, let alone a running skirt!
matt--WTG on your race this week1! Congratulations on your new PR!!!

Ok, I know I missed some people, but I tried to catch up a bit!

Enjoy the rest of the day!!

Wow this thread flies!

Judy- love the pic! I've had horses most of my life, but have been horseless for about 3 years now. I've always had Appys, but my mare was a quarterhorse cross (ImpressiveXPrinceCharlesJr lines).

I just got back from the gym and did 3 quick miles. I did 7 the other day. I had time for 4 miles but decided to tan instead LOL! Gotta get ready for my trip in 18days. I'm planning on running tomorrow (short run) ,Thurs. (long run) and Fri (long run). Not sure about the weekend yet. I'm thinking of just hanging out and scrapbooking my Dec. Disney trip.

I'm trying to increase distance first and then go for speed. Should I be doing it the other way? I'll feel a lot more comfortable when I know I can go the almost 14miles within the time limit. I walk around 3.8 and jog around 4.4mph.

Have a great night everyone!

:grouphug: Thanks so much everyone for the well wishes for me and baby!!! :grouphug:

We got some odd but great news from the Doctor today! Everything with baby is fine!!! S/he is still all nice and tucked away for the long term. (I'm trying not to be too graphic for you guys :rotfl: )

He said my pain is being caused by an internal muscle spasm. Said in all his years he has NEVER seen this happen. Just my luck, right? But I'll take a muscle spasm over something more serious any day. He gave me some muscle relaxers and said hopefully it will release within the next 2 days and feel all better in a week.

And for you ladies: my doc looks just like Chandler from Friends. So imagine Chandler talking to you about intimate issues. It was so funny I almost lost it a couple of times! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
