Wow, Craig, that is quite the dilemna. I won't tell you what I'd do in your shoes (whispering quietly "Do Boston, do Boston....for cryin' out loud, it's the BOSTON MARATHON!!").

Just popping in to say,, "hi" and that I'm still not walking alot but doing alot of cross training with the bike and weights. Had sad news today....a co-worker of mine was killed in a skiing accident here in Summit Co. He was one of our best cycling instructors at work and had a real "zest" for life. He will be missed.
Ok. Craig. You are certainly insane!!!So effectively I'm saying I'd rather have a good result and fun at the Minnie 15K than run the Boston Marathon. Is this a sign of insanity? Or at my age is in senility?
Well I have a serious dilemma.![]()
I've been offered a bib for this year's Boston Marathon. The problem is Boston is run on Monday, April 21, precisely 13 days before the Minnie 15K.
I really love the 15K distance, and I'd really like to pound out those last 9+ miles of the marathon course. Plus I already have paid for my Minnie registration and bought air fare.
If I run Boston I'll likely not have much fun, since my long run last week was 10K, so I imagine miles 13 and beyond would be nothing but pain. But still, it's Boston. But we live 1 mile from the mile 15 marker on the course, and I've run a great deal of the course, so it isn't that new to me.
And if I run Boston I can forget any kind of good time for Minnie. With 13 days of recovery I'd be lucky to start and finish.

When I run hard I concentrate on my pace and technique. When I'm running easy my mind wanders all over. Often in training runs I visualize the course for my next race, and if I'm at mile 8 in my training run I think about what I'll face in mile 8 of the race.
When I'm running with others I reprise the role of Donkey in Shrek, the annoying talking animal sidekick. Songs, jokes, dumb puns, you name it.
And don't laugh about painting a scene on the garage door. When I'm doing long stuff on a treadmill before the Disney full or half marathon, I tape a color map of the course in front of me at eye level, and I literally run the course while I'm training. The most fun is if I'm running 13 miles and have the full course in front of me. Every 1/2 mile I click off 1 full mile on the marathon course map. It is terribly exciting to finish 13 miles in 2:15 and call that my time for the full marathon.
Take care all, and enjoy the treadmill during this cold snap. I know I do.
