Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Had a good run yesterday :dancer: . 16 miles in 3:22:23 for a 13:20 pace. I actually stuck it out with the intervals through 14 solid miles...the longest I've been able to maintain them. I had a lot of problems with my leg during the run. Apparently bowling the day before is not good XT when you haven't done it in like 2 years. :confused3 My ankle did not fare well...I had to pull out an old pair of crutches after the run. They did seem to help...the ankle gets worse if it gets stiff so I was able to use the crutches to walk without putting too much pressure on the ankle. I only had a little stiffness this am.

Sorry to be all about me today. I have a million and 12 things to do. The good news is that neither DH or I go back to work until Jan 7 :dance3:

And it's only 3 weeks until the WISH team takes over WDW!

If I don't get back here, happy holidays and safe travels to everyone!

:wizard: to you Mel. Hope you heal up before WDW.

Christmas :grouphug: to anyone ailing through the holidays. I told DH this morning that I think all moms should not have to work a week before Christmas just to recover!!

We had DDs big 13 bday yesterday and slid and skied and had a great time. I made it 3 miles easy and today I feel pretty good. We have one trail named "Death Valley" and my dog stopped like a deer in the headlights right in front of me. Yes, his name is Digger and I took a big one but I survived unscathed.

So everyone is in taper madness and I am just mad being grounded by the docs but in just 2 weeks, we will all be just, well, Goofy!!! Have a great day all!!!

Lynne and I are in taper mode also. We did our 20 yesterday in sub 32 temps.
The last and first quarter mile of each loop was icy so we didn't run at all during those times. The wind is what was the worst. We finished the miles using my interval method of running as far as possible at the beginning of each song on my ipod. We finished the exercise in 5:02. I am a little sore in the quads today but nothing serious. Lynne is going to go swimming for recovery while I am going to hit the exercise bike while doing laundry so I can finish watching the episode of Grey's I started Thursday.

Happy Holidays all.

The taper madness has begun.

Lynne and Kathy: you guys are amazing! I can't imagine doing 20 miles in sub-freezing temperatures. I would have certainly wimped out! Way to go ladies!
Kathy, do you also run? I ask because I thought you were solely a walker. And how did you ever sync your ipods to start together?

Good morning fellow tapering athletes.

I hope everyone is feeling wicked good. I promise to me good, at least for a while. I'm enjoying the relaxing of the forum dress code though. My boxers with the cute little Reindeer Vixens on them haven't seen the light since last Christmas.

Have a super taper day y'all, be sweet now.

Taper Panda

Put 'er down--19.85 miles in 3:17!:cool1: And I even braved the cold outside--it is now just 37 degrees! And I live in the south, geez! And what's with the frozen water business--who'd a thought I'd have to play steeple chase over the ice today

Now, it's time to taper! 3 weeks from now I hope to be shuffling my way to the W tent to meet up with and congratulate my fellow teammates!

Hi all.

I have renewed respect for those of you who actually consider training in the winter. It is cold up here! I don't want to walk to the car much less go outside and run. Yikes!

You know its a long drive when the temperature drops almost 40 degrees while you are traveling!

I wasn't going to start taper until next week but I might change my mind. Actually, I was kind of hoping I would wake up with one of those minot injuries that require you to rest for a week. But no, I woke feeling fine. Better than fine actually.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Cecilia

BTW, I think we had two birthdays this month that I missed.

Happy belated birthday to AmyBeth and SWDave! :cake: :bday: party:

Afternoon WISHers!

20 scheduled, 20 completed in 4:29, for a 13:26 pace. I didn’t think the last two miles would ever end.

Surprisingly, I feel pretty good except for the bottoms of my feet. They are talking to me like big dawgs! Think it’s time to repair to the recliner and vegetate.

Mel – WTG with the 16 miler. Sorry to hear about the foot and ankle. Take care.

Lisa – Glad you and Digger are ok. WTG with the 3 miler.

Kathy and Lynne – WTG with the 20 miler! Sub-freezing temps. You’d be hearing some high speed whining coming from me.

I hope they saw the washing machine. :lmao:

Stephanie – WTG with the 20 miler!

Cecilia – Have fun in the Great White North.

Ho Ho Ho :santa:

Jeanne - I run when my legs and feet don't hurt. I try to run a little on each outdoor training session. I only walk on the treadmills. I want to be comfortably ahead of the sweepers on Jan 13. Really want that Mickey medal.

Vic - living in the north, it is easier to go outside, if the roads are clear than spend 5-6 hours on the dreadmill.

Hey all... just a quicky because things are CRAZY here!!! I did my 20 yesterday, unfortunately on the indoor track. 240 laps, plus my warm up!! I broke it into 4 groups of 5 miles and that kept me going! I would do 5 and then reset the lap counter so my numbers were always small and attainable. I managed the 20 miles in 4:35, but I walked the entire last mile. I also never turned my watch off for bathroom, gel and water breaks because I wanted a realistic time (you know at WDW for real bathroom and picture breaks!) My feet hurt the worst afterwards, but today my quads are a little sore. Nothing worse than the 1/2 marathon in January, so I am happy! I did get one blister, so I need to be on blister patrol!

Sorry I don't have time for personals. I will try to pop back in later. We are in the middle of a huge snowstorm since yesterday, 10+ inches of the white stuff and 40 mile an hour winds which are making nice drifts!

Hi Everyone,

Last LR is done!! Yahoo! I was planning on 22, but ended it at 21. Close enough. Like Vic, the last 2 miles did last forever. It was cold out, but other than an occasional flurry it wasn't storming. It was very peaceful and pretty, with all the snow covering the ground and the wreaths decorating the houses. I'm very glad to have it done.

Mel: Sorry your ankle was so bad. Hope you get some relief soon.

Vic: Sorry your feet hurt. Be sure to take care of them.

Cecilia: Sorry your feeling well? Hope you can get out there in the cold.

Kathy: Good job on getting your run in.

Dave: Good luck on being good.

Lisa: I'm all for that week off before Christmas. I've been all out trying to get everything done in addition to running for almost 4 hours.

Best Wishes to Everyone.

Cindy

Hi team...18 in the bank and I'm feeling pretty good. I have to say that it was the least painful long run I've had in a while. My pace wasn't going to set any records but I'm VERY pleased all the same...finished in 3:07 :).

Speaking of the conditions LOL.....it was NASTY out there. Started out in the 30s and ended at 40 degrees with steady rain all but 1 mile of the 18. YUCK! I was drenched with rain and shivering when I got back to my car. I'm still trying to warm up...of course the Ice Bath sure didn't help me warm up.
Today I'm not sure it was worth sitting in the frigid tub since my run was practically done in an ice bath. I had to veer off the trail so much due to it being washed out and covered in several inches of icy water. So I ended up running in slushy snow....stepping in "puddles"....and falling thru slushy watery snow that went up to my shins . What a mess. So I'm really happy with this run and I'm thrilled that I've only got a 10 miler next week and then we're SOOO close to going to DISNEY WORLD...OH YEAH!!!! :thumbsup2

It was pretty amazing out there today...there was a big contingency of TnT runners which was really comforting. I thought I'd be the only crazy person at our trail. Turns out I found some nice people to run with for part of the time which helped to pass the time and make it much more pleasurable. I also had a great mix of music on the iPod thanks to my buddy who made me a great 18 Mile inspirational mix!!! :)

Anyway...let me catch up here a bit:

MEL!!! GREAT RUN!! Congrats on a super pace and a successful run! And thanks for the b'day wishes :).

Cindy: Great job getting those 21 miles in!!!

Jen117: :worship: WTG on doing the indoor track! That's impressive to me.

Vic: Nice pace out there and way to get it done!!!!

Cecilia: You did great on your LR this weekend....AND you were speedy girl :). WTG!!! Hope you're enjoying those chilly temps ;).

Stephanie: MY GOODNESS you were speedy too. I couldn't get my legs to go fast out there today..just tooooo darn chilly. But you kicked butt even in those cold temps!!! :thumbsup2 I know you were nervous heading into the run...way to chase away those butterflies and own the road!!!!

Lynne and Kathy: Sub freezing? Yikes...I've done a few runs in those temps and it ain't pretty. I've also been braving some snow and ice...but not for the super long runs so I'm in awe of your tenacity. Awesome effort out there!

Lisa: Been thinking about you and I know how much you want to be out there running!! It sounds like a fun and winter-wonderland type of party for your DD13 :). How cool...literally! HAPPY BIRTHDAY to her!!!!

Hey everyone! Sorry I don't have time to catch up with everyone individually, but I just wanted to say that I am so impressed with everyone's LRs this weekend!!! I have to admit that I am a bit down that I didn't get to do mine this weekend, but with my IT band being sore the last few weeks, I know that it is for the best, but it is stil hard!

As for training--I got in 60 mins on the elliptical today for some XT, and I have been stretching alot and of course icing my IT band. Hopefully, it will hold up for the marathon...I am keeping my fingers crossed!

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!! (since I may not have time to check in before Tuesday!)

We made it back from WDW today and our stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was beyond busy but we did see the Christmas decorations. I can say for once that the holiday Wishes absolutely STUNK. There were some low clouds and the majority of the fireworks were not visible. I am not sure it was worth putting up with fussy kids (way past their bedtime) for that or not.

I did get out and run 8 miles at the Boardwalk. It was nice to actually run the last little bit of the marathon without being completely worn out. It was cold and misting when I started out and almost wound up in bed again but I felt guilty about eating at Boma and 'Ohana so I figured that I had better run to even it out. :rolleyes1

Laurie - Hope your IT band feels better soon. Taking it easy is the best thing for it right now.

Amy - Great job on the 18 miles. That is a great time to finish it as well. Sorry the conditions weren't any better for you though.

Cindy - Great job on the 21 miles. That is definately far enough for training. It must be interesting to run in snow flurries, having never done it myself I can think it is a wonderful experience.

Jen - 240 laps :scared1: Way to go on finishing that. That is a great time as well.

Vic - Great job on finishing the 20 even if the last two took forever. It sounds like it is time to relocate the other two big dogs from the sofa/recliner and take it easy.

Stephanie - Great job getting those miles in. That is a little too cold for me to run in especially with ice on the ground.

Panda - Don't go ruining the nice mental images I have of pandas with trying to tell me what they are wearing. All the ones in the zoo I have seen don't wear anything so I guess it may be a good thing you are trying to start a new fashion statement.

Kathy - Great job on getting out there in super cold weather. I will agree that it is better than the treadmill for that amount of time though.

Lisa - Glad to hear the birthday was fun and that you didn't get too hurt avoiding the dog. I hope your 2 weeks of inactivity will help you out for Goofy.

Mel - Great job on the run. I thought you were supposed to bowl with your arms and not your legs. ;)

Judy - Foam roller...:rolleyes1 :lmao: You aren't training to meet the EMT's again are you...

Carrie - Hope it was somewhat clear for your 20 miles. That is too long to be in one place running.

Kristi - But we want to see what words of wisdom you had for everyone...

Have a good week everyone and have a great Christmas.

Bill

Hi folks....just checked the weather for Orlando....gross! 70% humidity!

I'm currently away on vacation and getting some great runs in. I had a really long layover in LA on Friday so I got an amazing 10 mile run in along the Strand from Manhattan Beach to Hermosa Beach and back. The news was talking about the cold front that had blown in overnight, but I tell you - where I was coming from that 53 deg weather felt amazing.

Arrived in Singapore yesterday (Dec 23) early in the morning. Got in just over 4 miles this morning and wow, the heat and HUMIDITY here are something else. I ran a little two mile strip - up and down - along the main drag here and passed 9 different Starbucks along the way. Singaporeans must really love their Starbucks around here..!!

It is already Dec 24 over here. I hope everyone has a terrific Christmas!

Hi Folks!

I'm so jealous of everyone finishing up their LR's. I'm taking the short taper course and still am planning on a 20 miler next weekend.

It sounds like everyone did a great job!

I went and bought some nice Under Armour running tights today and got me thinking.

18 months ago, if you told me I would have:
*A pair of tights
*3 pairs of Compression Shorts
*A closet full of shirts made of polyester and Spandex
*A handful of WISH shirts that are visible from the International Space Station
*That I know 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20 mile loops that start and end in my driveway
*That I know WAY more about Judy's cross training than anyone has a right to::rotfl:

I would have told you that you are crazy.

Yet all of the above are true. So who is really crazy???? :confused3

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS DEAR FRIENDS

Everyone:love:

Happy Panda:hippie:

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! :santa:

I am working until noon today (my regular shift). Everyone else gets out at noon but I get no reprieve since I will be done then anyway. Hoping to get in 50 minutes of walking on the TM today as I am still grounded. It is 45 degrees here this morning and we lost A LOT of snow last night but are due for more right off. Making cookies with kiddos, possibly a movie this afternoon and then just dreaming by the fire tonight waiting for the "clatter" of Santa.

I hope you all are surrounded with family and friends for the holidays and have the best and merriest Christmas ever!!! :flower3:
