Wk Of Dec 23 - WISH Walking/Running Club

I hope everyone's run/walk went as well as mine did today. Banished to the basement and the dreadmill, I donned my skirt and WISH shirt and forged ahead in that endless forward motion discussed yesterday. Eight miles and 95 minutes later, I am happy as all heck. :woohoo: That is an acceptable time for me given all my time off.

Amy: Thanks for the kind thoughts, it must have worked!! I hope you find your shoes soon!!

I stopped at our local sports store and was looking for a new pair of sneaks for the half. I tried what I thought I wanted but the person selling the shoes said he had one for me to try. Saucony Trigon 4 Guides...TOTALLY AWESOME!! Right out of the box, 8 miles, no sore arches, no sore feet and no sore knees. How can you beat that. I think I have found my half marathon shoes!!

Well off now to finish my appetizers for our 3rd and final Christmas today. :scared1: My house is a disaster of toys and clothes that need to find a place in the kiddos rooms and now...more to come. HO HO HO!!!

Martha - You're gonna do GREAT! You are so ready for this. Get those 10 miles done and then just relax and count the days.

Leana - Hope you get a good run in today!

Judy - Thanks for the encouragement. While I was whimpering DH wanted me to call one of my Galloway buddies and I looked at him in horror  . He may be supportive but he just didn't get it. I knew where I needed to come!

Mel & Vic & Angie
- Please tell me you don't have the humidity that we do, or if you do, send it away SOON!

Ran 10 miles this morning in 65 degree weather with 85% humidity. I'm completely soaked - must go take a shower before I stand on my feet for 6 hours working concessions at the NC State basketball game. What idiot scheduled this after a 10 mile run? Oh, that would be me!

Jackie

It's 61 degrees and 88% humidity right at the moment. :rolleyes1 ;)

Okay... I am about to try and get my sick self off the couch and take a test walk on the beach...

:worship: here's hoping I make it more than 1 mile!

To paraphrase a line from the movie "Kelley's Hero's" Wow--with all these positives waves how can I not finish?

I WILL get to the starting line. I WILL cross that finish line, upright, no assistance. I will NOT embarrass my many friends and well-WISHers. Period. Repeat many, many times.

I second what WWDave said: I have been honored to know you all this past year. I, too, wish I could have you all over for New Year's to celebrate an incredible year. Thank you for letting me be a part of your lives.

See you in 2 weeks!!!

It's 61 degrees and 88% humidity right at the moment. :rolleyes1 ;)

I'll do better, it is 79 with 75% humidity here right now and it has been cooling off for the past couple of hours. :sad2:

However it is nice weather to play with the smoker. :thumbsup2

Welcome to TAPER!!!

Today was by far the hardest day of running I have had all season. Everything about the run was hard. Even getting there. Usually, once I get started I get into a rhythm and I am fine. No rhythm today. Dh even ran 5 miles with me to help me get going, but I just couldn't find any energy or excitement for the run. So when my right knee started to ache at mile 12, I decided I was done.

I can't wait to get home and start getting ready to go to Disney!!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Cecilia

I'm looking at the weather and thinking I would LOVE to do with a LOT lower humidity please. WISHing that you all in FL get it over with and the humidity significantly decreases please.

I've thought about making my own training skirt/tights but don't have the time or desire. I echo that they are mostly so short.

Having a horrible day today and wanted to take my mind off RL for a moment.

On top of the other LTO moments more just piled on.

Our min pin was attacked by a coyote late last night as I let her out for the last potty. She is in doggy heaven now and we are all going through a pretty rough time.

I think tomorrow will be an opportunity for me to get out and walk off some of this mess.

:grouphug: I'm collecting the hugs I need from all of my WISH Team.

Oh Lily, I'm so sorry.:guilty: :grouphug: How scary, too! I pray your rough times are over soon.

Oh Lily.. that is so sad.. I am such an animal lover and can only imagine what you are feeling... please know we are all thinking of you... :grouphug:

Just a few first timer questions...

Does anyone have the list, or link to the list, of what I should bring to the race on race day?

And, I have not used a belt or bag for any training, I have family that drives by with drinks (and checks on me, 'cause I'm a bit of a wimp), and a few stops where I leave drinks for the next loop around. That being said, I'm getting the impression that I should be carrying a bunch of stuff. Is it too late to get a bag or belt and get used to it? ('cause you all said, nothing new on race day) And, if you think I should have one, and think I have time to get used to it, what would you suggest? I live in the middle of nowhere, so I would have to order online, and allow for delivery too.

Is it normal to be this scared????

Lily - I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I'll be thinking about you and sending:grouphug: and :wizard: your way. I know how hard it is when you lose a pet. They are part of the family.

Angie - very normal to be nervous and scared. My first Goofy, I don't think I slept but two hours before the 1/2, I was so nervous. As far as a bag to carry, things you may want to take are gels or energy bars, money, room key/ticket (if you're going to go into the park after the race) and beverage (water/sports drink). The kind of bag to get is really personal preference. I've tried several and still don't have one I "really" like. I don't like the kind where the water bottle sits on the side/back. Too much bounce for me.
I try to find something flatter, that'll hold my energy bar, cell phone and
room key. I bought a water bottle that has the hand strap on it so I can carry it. I like that better. Good Luck finding something you like!

Well, I had another good r/w today. Two straight. I think I'm on :cloud9:
I did 8 miles on the track in 1:44:36 (13:05 mpm) :cool1: I felt pretty good when I was finished, too. Even if I add in an extra 15 minutes for potty, photos and just being on the road (instead of the track), I'd still be ahead of the sweepers!:) I'm gonna go for 10 miles on Monday!
I do realize this is not the high mileage I should be doing to get ready for the full, but right now it's the best I can do. I'll just go at a comfy pace on race day and take it one step at a time to finish before the 7 hour cut-off time.

I can't blame it on taper madness, but I was ready to goes nuts on my scream team yeserday. We were talking and they were saying they hoped it was hot down there because they want to go in the pool and be in shorts all day. :scared1: They only heard me talk about last year's heat and how horrible it was. They now agree it should be cool in the morning and can get hot in the afternoon and evening. That's better. Glad I had to set them straight!;)

Good luck with the rest of your training!
Terri

Lily - :grouphug: I'm so, so sorry for all you're going through. Hope you can get out tomorrow and walk even if just for a little while.

Angie/Pungodingy - I certainly hope it's normal to be this scared! Since I'm also a first-timer I don't know if I have the best advice, but I've run all season with a 4-bottle fuel belt with 2 pouches on it. I added another one this week so I'll have room for a camera, cell phone, gels, and whatever else I decide to add! I'll probably carry 2 8 oz bottles (one of Gatorade and one of water, just in case)

Vic & Bill - Your job for the next 2 weeks is to chase the humidity FAR FAR AWAY! I do not want another run like today.

Sitting down to watch the game - and I'm not even a football fan. What have you guys done to me?

Jackie

Lily: I am so sorry for your loss. Know you are in our thoughts and hearts today. Please give everyone a hug from us. :grouphug:

Big Vic: Colonel Flagg?

:rotfl: I'm nowhere near as ate up as Col. Flagg, but he always cracked me up. I actually met a few, in my military career, who were just about as bad though.

"I work for CID, but I tell everyone CIC, which makes them think CIA." :rotfl2:

:)

Lily, a vertual hug is not much but it's from the heart. I owe you a real one in a week and a half.

Panda who loves pups.

Oh Lily :grouphug: That is so sad, and there are no words to comfort you, as others I will join in the virtual hug - and hope that you do not blame yourself - you are all that is good and kind! :grouphug:

I've been watching the ten day outlook - and I think you will see that they are expecting a cold front to sweep through soon - I too hope it lasts until after our races! (cold front is in the 70's - start time tho in the upper 50's - but I too am practicing in the cold snow so we'll see!!)

adding extra :grouphug:

Lily, sorry about your little dog.

Angie, if you order a pack from Runningwarehouse (using the WISHD discount, of course) you should get it in just a couple of days, they have free 2 day ups shipping. Then you'd have time to do a few short runs with it to get used to it during your taper. I'm scared & excited too!
