Wk Of Dec 15 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Shan, you are gonna rock! Hey I have an extra half marathon bib for january if you think you'd be ready in a month ;) ( I actually have 2, so your DH could run too. I am serious, PM if you are interested!!)

Becky

Thanks Becky! :goodvibes

I wouldn't be ready - my longest run is still only a 10K.

Plus, we're taking the girls to WDW for NYE. :wizard:

Lexxie - :scared1: get that ticker off your signature! Man that scared me! Why is it that a month is fine, 4 weeks is fine, but 24 days takes my breath away!

Good news: I am not pregnant.
Bad news: something else must be wrong with me. Taper hasn't even started and I am already acting insane!

My menier's disease has kicked into overdrive and I am very concerned about getting any running in this week. I have one running buddy who can handle it but I can't reach her to make sure she can train with me this week. What to do, what to do.....

Cecilia

Quick drive-by update on my trip to the gym: I did an 30 min on the elliptical and then did A LOT of streching!! And of course, I iced it when I got home. This looks like it will be my routine for the next couple of weeks.

Hello All

I'm another one of those northeasterns whose long run plans were crushed by the weather of the past 5 days. We got 16 inches Thursday, and 8 more Saturday night/Sunday morning. I thought it would take be 20 minutes to dig out the cars Sunday, but 1 hour later I came back in the house totally blown. Then it turned to sleet, then rain, and of course when the backside of the storm came out of Canada (eh?) the rain froze on top of the snow, driveway, easement, cars, you name it.

I felt too tired to do my planned 10, and when Martha got home from the fitness center she told me they were shutting it down so the plows could get in and clean up the lots. I probably was too dumb to not try the run, so I was delighted they took away my option.

I did get there today and did 10 on the treadmill at 9:45 per mile. I figure that's my last long and tempo run before January 13. It was fine, but the treadmill makes my ankles and other parts hurt, so I'm not looking forward to a short run on it Thursday, then that last 18 mile long effort Sunday. Howard I am envious you can be outside, and Judy that you can hope for it, because it looks like the roads and sidewalks here won't be safe until mid-May.

And please, not 71 degree temperature and dewpoint at 6 a.m. on marathon day. I swore (a lot:rolleyes: ) after the 2007 disaster I wouldn't ever do it again, but apparently one time doesn't teach me anything. If it happens 2 years in a row maybe I'll figure it.

It's getting close, and I'd so sick of the training I'm darned glad for it (that's my version of Pollyanna's glad game, this training isn't fun anymore but it's nearly over, of course the race is a blast).

Best to all
Craig

Quit Whinning, you know ya love it.:rolleyes1 I've seen that look you get when you have a race.

Evil Pandapirate:

I'm doing a lot of XT with this snow. We've had our share of snow too. If anyone caught any of the Browns game, it was sure a snowball fight!

I'm thrilled that it will officially be taper madness since I think my LRs got scuttled and I'm not going to plan on getting in those extra lengths. I'll be concentrating on the weekly w/o and hope it gets me there.

It won't be long! Eek!

Count me in on not ever wanting to experience that heat as this past January. I really liked the colder start the year before. Now THAT would be my day.

Well, as much as I tried to get in the gym today for a run, it didn't happen. DS kept me up until 1am last night, and then the 5am alarm came way earlier than expected. He's got some kinda respiratory crud. But, he felt better this am, so I hauled all my gym stuff with me, only for him to get sicker this afternoon. It will be a Christmas miracle for me to get any training done this week besides the monster LR on Sunday. I'm sorry for not responding to ya'll--I'm reading the posts and thinking about ya'll--not too much longer now. DH tells me tonight "3 weeks and we'll be in WDW" Um, is that supposed to make me feel better!

My purely scientific theory is that Helen, not me, controls marathon weekend weather. She says it's been cold both years she's done WDW so I have to assume it will be cold this year, maybe twice as cold since she's doing Goofy.
I don't think I have enough throw away clothes left for those kinds of temps again :upsidedow

Helen...can you order a 50 degree start?

Christa--I have been following the Hal Higdon plan exactly so I don't think it is the mileage. I do only have one LR of 20 miles left this weekend. My longest LR has been 18 miles, so even if I don't get the 20 miler in, I think I will be ok. I am going to rest it as much as possible! thanks for the advice!

I agree, you need to just skip the 20 miler...you can (and I have) do a marathon on 18 miles of training. Just get that IT healthy...good luck!:wizard:

Good luck to everyone! I remember standing at the start last year sweating...not good...but according to the pattern, it is supposed to be cold..not hot...we will see though. If it is HOT like last year, I will not miss running it!

Stephanie - Remember..we do this for fun! Ha Ha! You will do great at WDW! PD for your little one and you who has to take care of him.

Yep, both years I have done it have been blooming freezing.....so will do my best Mel, but only for the race days themselves mind - it's 78 degrees here today and I'm cool (I'm wearing jeans, socks and a tshirt!!!). Tim and I are already concerned that should temperatures drop below 70 we are going to need coats!!! So cold may now be relative and if it gets down to 50 'well strewth cobber, I might need to check meself on the barbie, them prawns better move sideways' - sorry, it's the influence of that panda again. However, I will attempt to do a 'cold weather dance', on the Friday evening - but I want it warm again by Monday morning if that's okay.......

Boy what a difference a day makes. Saturday was 73 with 95% humidity, last night was 48 with 40% humidity. Much better, and there is hope that it may cool off for the marathon. The temps are supposed to stay below average for the next week or so. Orlando is getting a new weather forcaster from Detroit so may be it will be cooler so he can get acclimated first.

Christa - You will miss running even if it is 400 degrees outside and of course we will miss having you there and the breeze we get when you fly by us. ;)

Helen - Glad you control the weather. I have a feeling I have been fired from it since I obviously can't seem to control things.

Stephanie - Hope your son gets over the illness soon. We are thinking of living in a bubble for the next couple of weeks to ensure we don't get sick.

Panda - Glad to see you are back to your normal self. I was beginning to wonder there for a while.

Craig - Feel free to send some of your surplus snow down here. I am sure that our kids would love to see and feel it since they have never experienced that. The closest they get is the shaved ice that may be blown created to simulate snow. It is always better to share with others...;)

Kim - Glad you were able to get by the gym today. Hope your IT band behaves itself now.

Cecila - Hope you are able to get the runs in this week that you want.

Shan - Have fun in Disney. NYE is fun even if it is crowded.

Have a great day.

Bill

Well I have to say I agree with all ordering the cooler temps. I have gotten used to being outside in 5-10 degrees now and 80 would shock my system!! If it is indeed cool this year then I will have to skip next year as that will mean the hot one year and cold one year pattern continues so it may be Goofy 2010 for me. :scared1:

I went to the gym yesterday as I was tired of my TM in the basement. I had the place to myself for half of my run and then another more experienced marathoner came in and used the TM next to me. I kept pace with her for the rest of my run and make it 6.2 in 71 minutes which is great for me right now. Of course 13.1 seems like a long way away but at least I know I can do half of it running!! :rolleyes1

I am sending PD to all who are sick and injured including family in that as we seem to have lots of sick kiddos out there. My DD turns 13 Saturday :scared1: so my life is about to change!!

This post is just for the guys, like Craig who is getting road worn.

Guys, we would never admit it to the babes but we only do this marathon thing so we can check out all the pretty princesses in their tight exercise stuff. Now really we want it hot, the hotter the temp the less the ladies are wearing, right? The only thing that could make it better is if we could ride on a rickshaw and drink beer instead of having to run/walk the darn thing.

Now for everyone, we can do this we are lean mean marathon machines!!!! We have worked hard and soon we get to go to the "House of Mouse", and strut our stuff...."Yea we bad".

Now I'm off to do macho stuff like drink animals and shoot beer.

Man you are the evil panda. I can assure you I don't love it. Last night we watched the Buffett mini-concert on the beach in Anguilla, complete with blue/green water, wind, and waves. All we could say was "tell me again why we live here."

I cannot argue with your comment about my pre-race look. I hope I wasn't too serious minded looking when Martha and I walked by you and your group on the Swan/Boardwalk bridge on our way to the TOT. I suspect if my parents had film of my first ever soccer match as a 7 year old you'd see the same face.

Thanks to Helen for bring cool temperatures in 24 days. We're counting on you.

Craig

Hi Everyone-

Ok, I have lost the pace group thread and I am starting to think I am really going to need it for the half. I have no control on race day.
Is there anyone willing to run beside me and trip me if I try to go too fast?
I want to stay in the 11 minute mile range while running but plan to stop for pictures too.

I have several people to help me get through the marathon. Oh wait, I am supposed to be helping them! My big sister is signed up, but she not wearing a chip and is going to jump in and get me through the last 8 miles. She injured herself. Evidently you shouldn't try to do splits when you are 47 years old.

I am probably going to get banned once I enter taper! I am already going crazy. Its the weather. Last week it was 70 degrees and today its 24. Everyone can just be very glad that I am only doing a two week taper!

The vertigo is still a big issue. My ENT is concerned and has squeezed me in tomorrow so that we can make sure its not an infection causing the dizziness. The medication for the dizziness makes me very drowsy so I would rather not take it before a run. I find it hard to sleep and run at the same time.

Helen - I agree with everyone else. I would like chilly and overcast please. Perhaps warming up in the afternoon.

Panda - I promise you want me well clothed. (and probably gagged as well)

Cecilia

Hello, WISHers!

Well I got my 18 done yesterday and it felt GOOD! I even considered going another 2, but since I've got to do 22 this weekend I thought I'd stop while I still felt good. Finished in 2:54 plus a bathroom stop. Everything feels pretty good, although I'm a bit stiff in my left knee. Today I'll do some easy xt and some weights for the core.

Stephanie - 3 weeks?!? :scared1:
Mel - I agree that it's too easy to stop on the TM! I much prefer running outside.
Laurie - Lots of PD for the knee!
monte - 10 - 15 below?!? Yikes! That's why I moved to the south.
Susie - PD for the back; I am so afraid of some freak injury in the next few weeks!
Diane - Hope you're all dug out now!
Vic - WTG on the 16 miles! Glad to know you've found the sock/shoe combo that works for you.
Terri - Hope you got in your 2 hour spin!
Jackie - Glad to hear you did 4 miles and the foot felt good!
Lisa - My DD is 14. Good luck! :sad2:
Bill - Keep those cooler temps coming!
Lynne - Shoveling for XT - yikes!
Christa - Yeah, just keep telling us that this is supposed to be fun!
Howard - Way to get the miles in!
Tricia - Great story about the tv! Hope you enjoy it!
Jen in GA - I signed up for two half's for the same reason!
Leana - Welcome to your taper -- you've earned it!
Steve - I think doing xt with running is so much better for your body!
Shan - WTG with the speedy 2 miles!
Jen - PD for you to get better!
Judy - Hope you get to do your 13.1 outside!
Becky - Congrats on getting your 20 done!
WWDave - Are you sure you're not in taper madness already?
Helen - 11/22? That is definitely Goofy!
Cecilia - Hope you get your run in!
Craig - Sorry you're stuck with the tm!
Lily - I sure don't miss those winters on Lake Erie!

PD for all the injuries! Happy training!

I hear you dude. If those darn people in Florida didn't want so much for the houses we would be there. You would think it would be cheap living down there. They get the crap kicked out of them every couple of years by mommy nature and the insurance rates there should be a crime.

But we do get to drive down at the best parts of the year and get crazy, have more fun than anyone person should have and we can return to our low cost lifestyle so we can save enouth pennies to do it again.

Besides if the women were barely dressed all the time I suppose we would get tired of it...... NOT.

Ok so we use a race as an excuse to our princesses, so we can go enjoy that little slice of paradise a couple of times a year.
