Wk Of Dec 15 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Here is my Goofy Training to date:

12/12: 6.35 miles
12/14: 8.35 miles
12/16: 6.25 miles
12/18: 4.1 miles

All of my miles so far have been on the TM, yuk!

Craig: I haven't been able to get out on the streets, although we have not had any snow.... we've had a lot of rain though. We are heading to Hilton Head tomorrow night. I will be getting in some miles down there over the Christmas holiday. I will also be golfing a couple of times. I call that cross-training!

My first outside run will hopefully be in the 10 mile range.

Happy training and taper!

:grouphug:

Greetings Race Team -

Today was a rest day so I slept in, which was really really nice! :goodvibes

Original Bill
- Nice thought, but you couldn't tape my "adventures" and send them to Disney. Too many "unDisneylike" words. I think we are done running outside for the rest of the year. And just to add to my fun, the TM motor is on it's way out. The new one has arrived but the service call isn't until Wednesday. We're looking to put 33 miles on it Saturday. I hope it survives.

Lisa - Yes, I was just talking about Yak Traks last night! I think I'll get some this weekend. :thumbsup2

Kristi - OMG that is fab-u-lous! You go Molly girl! Whooo hooo! :woohoo: Oh yeah, I am totally with you on the "it's darn near impossible to give training your best shot at this time of the year if you live in the NE" thing. :guilty: You know, if they make the Minnie a Half, we'll be all set. :thumbsup2

Christa
- O M G!! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:  :lmao: I'm totally flattered to be in your dream , though, I have to tell you. Especially considering we've never met!

Good morning!

Was able to get out there in the chilly temps last night and complete my 6.2 miler (56:21...9:05 pace). I felt surprisingly strong to be at this stage in Goofy training...I guess that will change quickly after this week's 9/18 combo :)

Amy - Triathlon?? Wow...unfortunately I'll have to be on the sidelines cheering you on in Philly if you decide to do it (slight swimming issue with me)...at least they have yummy cheesesteaks there :)

Christa - You can officially become the WISH team dreamcatcher!! I'll start worrying when everyone here ends up in the same dream...and there is a boiler room...and girls skipping rope outside of the house...and some odd dude in a striped sweater with long fingernails :scared:

Stacie - Best of luck to you with the chiro...just hang in there and remember it's better to deal with these issues now before they get worse. Don't worry, you'll be just fine for the 5k!!

Lisa - Good luck with your testing today...I'm sure that's a nerve wracking experience...best wishes to you.

Those dealing with weather issues - Hang in there! I admire all of you logging miles on treadmills or out there in the ice and snow freezing your buns off...keep up the great work!

Ugh....Tried to catch up, but I'm weayy behind and teh boards are slow at lunch. While I'm doing ok, Scott has been on teh DL for over 2 weeks. He's doen very light eliptical since last week when teh doc said it's eitehr a pulled muscle or a stress fracture. IF teh SF is too bad, you're done, no marathon.

He should get teh bone scan results tomorrow. (Very grateful to have a doc that's amarathon runner and pushed that through)

I hate to disappear and come back when I'm needy, but that's top of my mind right now. So, any PD you could spare.

Mel - Woo hoo on your 20!!!!

I'd be up for a 20-miler meet. I jus got my Palm set up for videos, as I this with be 20 on teh TM. :scared1: Even if I get outside, I've never done more than 10 solo, and i don't see gScott going more than 5 , if he is cleared to do train with impact. Ugh.

Can't eblieve we'll all be at Pop in 23 days! :scared1:

OK! No one needs to have WDW race nightmares now...b/c I had enough for everyone last night. I am not even running the dang race! :confused3
Basicly this is what happened...
Krista, Judy, Both Daves, Steve, Amy, Lynne, Scott...and a few others I cannot remember right now came to pick me up at my grandmothers house (in Tenn:confused3 ). But it was just right down the road from WDW!:confused3 :confused3 I could not find my shoes, water belt, or gels....and it was 5:45am. Finally I find my shoes and ditch everything else.
WWDave...is driving:scared1:  and stops at McDonalds to get breakfast. THis seems normal to everyone..and now it is 5 min b/4 race time.
We eat and go to the race...it has started but Krista says it will be OK...we have a chip that records our "real" time....I don't ever remember starting the race, but the whole night was filled with panic for me. I would wake up and go back to sleep..the dream would start back up right where I left it.
WHAT WAS UP WITH THAT?!?

No more onion sandwiches for you before bedtime. ;) :rotfl:

Hello, WISHers!

I got 5 done today -- why was it harder than the 18 on Monday?!? I had that evil little voice in my head telling me to cut it short, but I did not. Ha; take that, evil little voice!

I've got some new running shoes coming on Thursday. Found out I needed them on my 18 miler. I'd planned on getting a new pair in November, but kept putting it off.

:wizard: to Carrie's Scott and Lisa! (and anyone else I missed.)

Happy training!
Renee

Training for a race during this time of year is horrid. I am with Judy, this may be my last Jan. half. I'd still be there to cheer Chad on though. Maybe I could just do the WDW 5k each year while Chad does Goofy (that would also solve our childcare issues). In any case, this time of year sucks for training and I can't see myself doing it again.

Wow...that's my favorite Dis quote of the day. Thanks Kristi!!! I'm thinking the same thing about training for a Full this time of year. I think I could squeeze in the half training, but life and weather take over this time of year!

Is it end of marathon training blues? Pre-taper blues? Wish I knew what to call it but I just couldn't bring myself to run yesterday...the cold, the icy roads, my total lack of motivation, the holiday stress...I had a million excuses and they all sounded good.. I did manage to get on the ski machine for a solid 30 minutes and I did 90 minutes of pilates with my trainer. So today I went out there to get some miles in and the snow started at mile 2..so I just cut it short at 3. Those were the 3 hardest miles I've had in a LONG time..I swear they were nearly as difficult as the final 3 of my 16 miler a few weeks ago :(. Anyway...enough whining...I guess this far into training every mile is supposed to be tough. I just have to shake off this run and move forward :goodvibes . Tomorrow is another run...I'll try for 5 miles. We'll see how it goes lol!

Christa!!! OMG...that is hilarious!! :rotfl: Maybe you are having the stress dreams so everyone else doesn't. We can hope right?? You're going to be missed at the marathon this year!!!

Scott: Great run yesterday, I'm envious. I'm feeling less than strong this week for some reason.

Carrie: Major PD for Scott....I really hope it's just a muscle pull so he can get back at it soon!! And PD for you too on your LR this weekend!!!

Renee: I hear ya about the tough run...wow...mine was BRUTAL and I did listen to that evil voice...except it was accompanied by snow so I guess that made it more powerful ;). Great job getting it done!!

Judy: Wow...your post about the icy conditions was amazing. I know that around here all the parking lots and driveways are still covered with an inch of ice. That storm this weekend left quite the mess. Be careful out there!!! And I know how you feel about training...i just feel like I'm not prepared but just hang tough and do the best you can :). I'm sure everyone has those fears now and then!

Lisa:  Loads of PD!!! Please let us know how you are doing. You've been on my mind today!

Kristi: Very cool about Molly. I remember seeing her on AI and thought she was very cute and very well spoken! :thumbsup2

Hang in there everyone. For most it's the last really long run of training! Wishing everyone good luck this week. :goodvibes

Ok, WWDave, since we're making a McDonald's stop the morning of the marathon and you're driving, I'll take 2 egg mcmuffins and a large coffee--skim milk, 2 spendas. Do you think the coffee will be cold by the time we make it from Tennessee to WDW?? ;)

Steve

Christa--LOL on the marathon nightmare!:lmao:

Carrie--Mucho PD to Scott!:wizard: Glad to see you poking your head in now and then!

Kristi--super cool about Molly and the shoe!

Well, after my last depressing post about training and running in general, I thought today was the day to get going again. WRONG! I had a miserable workout, wanted to stop after 20 minutes, but kept it going for another 10 and then 5 more walking. Gonna try to get back to the gym tomorrow, but DD has a Christmas party at school that I must attend. And then I have to bake more goodies for yet another party tomorrow night--that will make number 6 this year!

<------- slinks in with her head hung low.

Ok... I have been crappy with just about everything lately. Seriously, don't even tell the people on the Photo board that you have even seen me. They haven't seen me in almost a week!! I was getting in the runs until a few days ago... now I am sick, and I have my last LR this Saturday. We'll see how that goes. Anyway... my main reason for stopping by was to let everyone know I am still around... even if I can't find time to post. And that we will still be there in January. I can't wait!! Though depending on my runs lately my time goal may go up quite a bit!!

Dana

Thanks to all for the PD. I guess I needed it. I had a polyp the size of a golf ball that if I had waited another 2-3 years would have been cancer. So, today I am sort of glad I had it done. I am having problems after the biopsy today and need to go back (hopefully not for another scope) so I did not get to XT on Tuesday, did not get to train yesterday and will, more than likely, be told I cannot run today. Thankfully, this is a cut back week and I am not missing too many miles. I guess I need to find that cocoon from another thread. My DD's pitching coach says we all need a "happy place" to go when things get us down. :cloud9:

Lisa - Glad they were able to catch it in time and hopefully it will explain some of the problems. Hope you can get back to training soon, but don't rush things. By now, you have the base to finish the race if you don't injure yourself.

Dana - Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well. It is good to see you back and look forward to seeing you in January.

Christa - Glad you are having the strange dreams. I just seem to be stuck on the loop going from Mile 10 to Mile 20 in mine. I must really like AK or something.

Kristi - You don't live here because you actually like seasons. We have 6 weeks of fall starting in January, 2 weeks of Winter in February, 6 weeks of Spring in March and then the rest is Summer. Great news about Molly. At this rate, she can pay for your retirement in a couple of years. ;) Love the lights on your house as well.

Vic - What's up...we need some more of that cool weather from the panhandle. So if you could be so kind to send it on its way, we would appreciate it.

Amy - Sorry to hear the run was bad. At this point it does get harder because the end is so close. Hope your next one is better.

Stephanie - You must be going to all our parties for us. I think we had 1 or 2 informal ones this year. Hope you can get the training you want in.

Renee - Glad you didn't listen to that little voice. The short runs after long ones are always difficult for me. Probably something about still being tired from the long ones.

Carrie - PD for Scott and hoping that it isn't a stress fracture.

Scott - Great job on the training. You will do fine this weekend with your Goofy training.

Howard - Great job on the training. Being a student, you have learned how to cram for everything. Thus you will do great cramming for the races.:rolleyes1

Judy - I like that training. In fact every long run I struggle with those blasted covers...

I had better go now and get to work. It happens to be the last day I will work this year.  In addition, we are going to WDW tomorrow for the weekend. :rolleyes1 Leaving on Sunday before the worst crowds come.

Bill

Hi everyone!

Yesterday was another double workout day for me. The last one!

I ran 8 in the morning and another 5 in the evening. Let's just say that these runs were not ablout time...:rolleyes1
I can not tell you how hard it is to put running clothes on after a warm shower! Or how hard it is to pull my freshly washed hair back into yet another ponytail.

I also went to the Doctor about my Menier's Disease yesterday. Unfortunately there is still no treatment option for me. The medications they use to treat it cause severe drowsiness. Not only that, they only treat the symptoms. There is no cure. So for now, I just continue to hope I get over this episode quickly.

The end is in sight though and hopefully all this training will pay off so that I have a good time while running Goofy. I would really like to be smiling at the finish line.

Cecilia

I had episodes like Menier's for 1-2 years a couple years back. They did some crazy hearing testing and everything. I was also seeing one of the best ENTs around. Basically, there was nothing they could do with me either. My episodes did stop though. The only thing I can link that to in any way was that I cut way back on frozen dinners - I hardly ever eat them at all now. I was eating those for lunch every day since I do Weight Watchers. They have alot of sodium and that can throw your system off.

Yet another snowstorm in New England. My grandparents flew in from FL last night. They haven't been up here for Christmas in about 15 years and this is what they come into! :rotfl: I am playing hookey today to take them shopping. Thank goodness for 4WD! :thumbsup2

Amy - I can swim, but I'm not a "technical" swimmer. My swimming is done at the Y pool. When I was training for the tri I just swam laps, eventually building up to a mile swim. Just as with my running, I'm no speed demon (although I may make an exception in the Schuylkill :scared1: ). Unless I go to the jersey Shore in the summer, I don't do any open water swims.

Kristi - Great news for Molly! :thumbsup2

Lisa - Glad they found it in time. Hope you heal up quickly!

Carry - sorry to hear about Scott. Hope the bone scan is ok.

Dana & Stacie
- sending :wizard: your way. hang in there!

PandaDave - I need an egg mcmuffin, hash browns and a sweet tea (the breakfast of the back of the packers) :rotfl:

Cecilia - if you don't mind me asking, what is Menie's deisease?

No training for me yesterday. Will be xt on the bike today. I agree with folks about training in this weather. It really stinks. It's so hard to get motivated to go out when it's raining/snowing or the wind is howling.

Terri

Cecelia: I used to work for a neurologist and he treated some Meniere patients with an Epley maneuver. Have you had this done? Has anyone suggested your going to a neurologist for treatment? This may be an option for you and I am sending you :wizard: as I have seen so many very miserable with this condition. I hope you get better.

I am now officially  and :sad1: at the same time. My doc called me back and said I cannot run for 2 weeks due to the size of the polyp removed. No exceptions. I can try walking or elliptical but if there are any complications...well, I am just done. With 23 days to the half, I could just cry right now.

I hope you all have some great training. I guess I will be absent for a little while. Good luck to you all!!

I am so sorry about you not being able to run...but so glad they caught it in time. You will be fine! Last year I had to stop running about this time for 2 weeks due to a painful knee...not anything like what you are going through. But it freeked me out....then I went and had the best marathon time ever for me...so just think about starting a major taper early. It is better not to chance it.:wizard: :wizard:

Cecelia - So sorry for you too...hope this passes very quickly.

Dana - Dont worry girl! Just go out there and have fun on marathon morning. Don't make the same mistake I did and get all worked up over a time goal, then not enjoy it.....it is more important to finish well than to make the time goal! By well, I mean just to enjoy it!

Stephanie - I was thinking about you yesterday morning. I came home from a run with a few friends and my DH asked me how far and how fast we went...I said, I have no idea! A buddy planned out the route and I did not start my watch....it was a blast. You are going to do GREAT at the marathon this year...and I think you are going to PR in a big way. But when you get back, just take a few days off and then run for fun for a while.:flower3:

Have said a little prayer for all you guys this morning. WDW is going to be fun.

Well if the adventure Panda is going to arrange the transportation for the WISHers heading south....

When we, the Pretty Princess Erica and I go south it's with top down if weather permits and tunes cranked. We have one of those stereo systems called a 'Shaker' if it's cranked loud the whole stang vibrates to the beat.

The conv stang is Erica's ride, when I replace my 12 year old Grand Cherokee it will be either a Hummer H3 or a Toyota Rav 4, depending on the gas price situation at the time.

So assuming I go Hummer with tunes and bar, seating for 6 plus the Sam Adams we should have a pleasent trip to "The House of Mouse".

OH and We don't do McDonalds, Wendy's is one of the very few fast food places we will eat from and there only rarely. We eat out most of the time but fast food for us is Bob Evan's or Cracker Barrell.

Taper time is in full swing so feel free to be Panda, I mean goofy. And of course the dress code for sitting at the key board is recinded untill after the January events. Any for a WISH PJ party?

Ok now to the Rat Killing. I went to the gym for 3 easy miles with a few 10 mpm quarters, on the treadbeast. Then a quarter mile of pool sprinting. I think I have finally beaten the foot problem I had. I hope so anyway.

Everyone who is feeling a little puney right now a day of rest might be just the ticket.

Have a wicked good day y'all.

Wicked and Mischevious Panda:hippie:

Hi wishers....Planning to get some more miles in today...but I'm waiting for my new sneakers to arrive first LOL! They are on the delivery truck as we speak! :goodvibes I may try to get 5 miles in the books along with some pilates today. Legs are still feeling less than motivated...but I'm hoping cushy new sneakers will help to perk them up LOL!

Lisa:  Wow...I'm so sorry that you are made to rest for a while but you will be fine in the half...just keep reminding yourself that this is a blessing. I'm so glad you continued to seek answers for the problems you were having. You were very smart to place your health first and figure out what was causing your illness. I'm so relieved to hear that they were able to remove the polyp and that you only need a few weeks to recover. It is very frustrating to miss so much training...but you are very fit and will be able to complete the half marathon as planned!!!!

Cecilia: Great job getting those runs in. I'm in awe...I couldn't pull 3 out of the hat yesterday and you did two significant ones. :worship: You rock girl! PD that you are feeling better soon!!!!

Panda Dave: :confused3 You are just using energy gels right? None of that wacky stuff I hope! ;) Your words are those of a crazed taper madman. Are you in full taper mode Wicked Panda or is this just the tip of the iceberg?

Greetings Racing Team -

Guess I shouldn't have said anything about the TM yesterday because I think I jinxed myself. This morning the fan wouldn't go on and then the control panel started to fade out. I could barely see the time and speed. Swell. Just swell. I did, however, get my three miles in. :guilty:

OK, let's talk about foam rollers. :goodvibes

The other day I went to the chiropractor, as I do about once every 4-6 weeks. She told me I was getting "out of balance" and really needed to start doing some Pilates or yoga. I know, I know, I should have been doing XT all along, but I always find an excuse. I know she's right. But anyway, I was telling her how my IT band feels tender all the time and she suggested I get a foam roller. She sells them so she showed me how to use it. I didn't get to try it until this morning.

Oh

my

GOD!!

THE PAIN! OMG! MOMMY! IT HURT SO MUCH! THE PAIN! MAKE IT STOP!

Charlie really enjoyed the show, as he sat in the recliner with his coffee, watching me roll around, most of the time putting my face in the carpet and making sounds like a sumo wrestler. But once I got the hang of it, I was rolling around pretty well, whimpering only a little.

But oh geez! Afterwards...it was amazing! Oh my legs feel soooo much better! I think I love me some foam roller! :thumbsup2 Yes, yes! :goodvibes My legs feel so good I want to roll all my other parts around on it.

Lisa - Oh no.....Yes, better you got it now. Hey, I know the PERFECT happy place for you! ;) OK, OK, so you start your taper a little early.

Amy
- I'm not sure where you are but here it is a little bit warmer so at least the ice has melted Still a mess though.

Dana - Ohh I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. :wizard: But I am happy to see you here!

OriginalBill - Total and complete unadulterated envy.....not only are you done working for the rest of the year but you're going to WDW for the weekend? I'm green. Just green.
