Leana—GREAT JOB on the runs this weekend! Wow, you got some serious mileage in. Reading about your last 2 miles on the 20 miler made me remember my last back-to-back for Goofy last year. I felt the SAME way, just completely dead tired and unable to stretch. The good news is that the actual races went much better for me than that last LR, so maybe that’s something good for you to hear. Anyway, great job!
Jen—hope you feel better soon, and I hope the IT band holds up for you.
Tricia—glad everything is working out with the hdtv. Hope you like it! Trust me, it WILL spoil you. I can’t watch anything in non-HD anymore without noticing all the fuzzy pictures. Of course, if the Steelers keep losing, it doesn’t matter if I get to watch it in regular or HD tv.
Howard—hey bud! How’s it going? Glad to see you’re getting your Goofy training in. You totally amaze me with the last-minute cram training. I don’t know how you do it!
Lynne—don’t think I got a chance to tell you yet. Congrats on Hawaii!
Bill/Mel—PLEASE make that humidity go away soon! I can’t take another marathon weekend with 300% humidity. Mel, I think you need to break out the homeless person clothes and start doing the cold weather dance!
Laurie—take it easy on that IT band. It’s nothing to mess with. It will only get worse if you run on it with it injured. Take it from someone who has done just that. I would take some time off from all running and just keep up your cross training and see how the next week or two progresses. It would be much better to show up at the marathon slightly undertrained and have to slow your pace than to show up injured and not even make the starting line (this is very near and dear to me since it’s how I ended up missing the Columbus marathon starting line 2 months ago). Hope everything works out for you!
Training’s been going pretty well, actually really well. I’ve only been running 3 times a week, but I’ve been swimming, biking and lifting quite a bit and I feel a lot stronger than I have for any other marathon. Granted, my pace has slowed, but I'm ok with that. We’ll see how that translates to 4 weeks from now, but anyway…
I finished my first “long ride” on the bike trainer yesterday and you know what? It wasn’t half as bad as I thought it would be. It was pretty monotonous, but it definitely beat doing a long spin at the gym, which is what I’ve been doing since the weather got cold. I just put in a movie and spun at a comfortable cadence and kept an eye on my heart rate, and it wasn’t too bad. I don’t know if I could do 4 or 5 hours on the trainer like Lynne does (that’s crazy!!), but maybe half of that.
Ok, gotta go get some work accomplished. Sorry that I missed some of you. Good job to everyone getting the miles in, and to those fighting injury—take it easy. Not too much longer now, guys!
Steve
