Wk of Aug 6--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Good Morning Team :surfweb:

monte- remember we don't use the word only. You did a 30 min workout, that's great. Good for you! :thumbsup2

I did my 30 min SWOG yesterday. It was a beautiful day, and I really didn't feel like being inside in the pool. But I got my workout in, and that's that.

Rest day today - I'm travelling to Washington DC this afternoon for a meeting at NIH. My plan is to run tomorrow. With this trip, I will have enough credits on Southwest to get a free airline ticket!!! Oh yeah, you know what I'm going to use that for, right?

Just a quick post before I have to go follow everyone around today.

I had planned on going out this morning for about 5 miles at about a 13:45 pace to take things easy and see how I felt. Everything felt good so I wound up going 10 miles at a 12 minute pace and nothing hurt at the end. Although because the plan was for a short run, I didn't take any drinks or gel and I found I missed those by the end of the run.

My times were something like this:

Mile 1 -- 14:06
Mile 2 -- 12:16
Mile 3 -- 12:00
Mile 4 -- 12:06
Mile 5 -- 12:01
Mile 6 -- 11:58
Mile 7 -- 11:37
Mile 8 -- 11:33
Mile 9 -- 11:26
Mile 10 -- 10:53
Total -- 2:00:00

I figure I will take it easy pace wise for the next couple of weeks and I should be fine for Disneyland.

Bill

Morning WISH Team!

Krista, I fixed my siggy--should answer your question. :teeth:

Monica, what Dave said!

Dave, nice catch on the "only." Have a good trip and yay! for points. Hope you get to use yours. We tried to use our for one of our trips, not SW, and those special seats were already taken, hmpf. ripoff...

Bill, you are right where you need to be to finish up and enjoy the view! I so get the doing extra miles by accident! Glad you had fun. Danger about no fluids.

I'm back from a fantastic trek. Great weather day. I did 7.25 miles and it took me 1 hr 45 min. Pace was 14:35. Faster than my goal, but I couldn't help myself. It felt great. Saw a fox, several deer, lots of pretty things!

Monte - The E.Q. says that noone can say "only" for a WO.....If you WO then  !

Ran this morning with DH and BIL! We did 5. They finished in 1 hour and I finished sometime b/4 that. (DH had my watch b/c he forgot his) They ave 11 MPM and I stayed with them until the last 2 miles. That pace hurt to run and I had to pee REAL BAD! I almost didn't make it...sorry TMI! Did I mention it was POURING down the rain....I could have peed and noone would have known :rotfl: !
I am really proud of them for getting out there in the rain and doing so well...This was their 1st official LR! It was also a really hilly course! :cheer2:
THis is a pic of my awesome DH finishing the Goofy 06! Even after 39.3 miles, he is so cute!

Judy - unfortunately I was unable to find that discount card. I think it was for last season anyway, because they were one of my running club's national sponsors last year. It seems like we are not getting all of the discounts we got last year, now that I think about it....but I digress

The discussion on the word "only" makes me think of a gatorade advertisement. It was something along the lines of "if you use the words 'only' and '10k' in that order" and it had a picture of gatorade and some race bibs or something like that. Haven't seen that advertisement in a while.

Today I only did, er...start over. Today I did 6.25 miles in 1:15 over very hilly terrain. Not too shabby.

Counting down the days to DL! Cannot wait!

Slightly OT...my daughter was sitting on my lap when I entered this post. She saw the smilies on the side and said "Silly circles Daddy. Circle's eating popcorn!" So, this is for her: popcorn::

A little closer to being on topic: Does anyone know if the ban on gels and such in carryon luggage will include energy gels?

Back to your regularly scheduled training. :cheer2:

Paul

Paul, Unfortunately, I am sure anything that is "squishy" will be on the ban list, even if the specific name isn't there. What if we mail stuff to general delivery?? :lmao: ...Hey!! There might be energy gels at the Expo, right? Next thought is, we're staying offsite, so I may get the names of some running stores in the area that would have a supply of that stuff. Just in case they lose the luggage. :guilty:

This is for your cute DD  :dumbo: :laundy:

Well... I went out this morning and ran 6 miles in 59m 13s. The run itself felt great, but once I got in the car to drive home my calves started cramping. So I hit an ice bath when I got home, which helped alot. For some reason the bottom of my big toe is hurting on both feet. It almost feels like it is about to be a blister, but it never blisters. It has done this for my last 3 long runs. Any clue?

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Dana

Thank you all for reminding me that 30 mins. is a workout!

Hi Everyone -

Gels in carryon luggage? A good friend of ours that works for the Dept of Homeland Security told us just a week or so ago (before they caught this latest group) that carryon luggage maybe going away completely.

The threat is so serious that he thinks laptops, and individual cell phones and ipods will eventually have to be turned off and checked as well. The Airlines are screaming. The airports are screaming. The whole airport check-in and luggage handling may be going through MAJOR changes in the next few years. Interesting, but I bet nothing happens - look how lax they have gotten in the last few years.

I think I will plan on getting gel at the expo & paying twice as much for it there. Actually, I think I will worry about that in December - who knows what could happen between now and then. Good question though.

bah... i hate this. so stupid. i ranted for a good 2 hours yesterday about the whole ipod thing. at least when i thought i couldn't have it. it's terrible. you carry on you essentials (keys and stuff). just imagine if your luggage got misplaced or stolen, you'd be able to do nothing. you'd be out of your keys, out of your phone. you'd basically be stranded and all your valuables would be gone. especially since you can't really lock your stuff without special locks. blah. we're flying in just 3 weeks, i can't wait to see how it works. i was just looking on united site and they are advising people to get to the airports 3 HOURS before their flights. crazy!

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I'm sitting here in my hotel in Bethesda, MD waiting for breakfast to arrive. I need to go to NIH around 11:00am this morning to meet with a researcher there. I was going to go for a run this morning, but now I'm thinking of saving my run for this afternoon/evening and driving into DC to run around the mall. I wanted to run about 4 miles today, and I think I could easily run 3-5 miles around the mall.

Not much else to report. Yesterday was a rest day for me. Got up, finished assembling the princesses, DD8 princess: and DD5 princess:, swingset (1 day job that took 1 week), mowed the yard, packed, and headed out. Travel wasn't too bad. Not much wait at the Buffalo airport to get through security. I had to check my bag that I would normally carry on the plane so the longest wait I had was at the BWI lugage claim.

OK, breakfast is here. Have a great day everyone. I'm waiting to hear how the Chicago Distance Classic went.

Sorry to hear that Monte,

Is there any way to have your entry roll over to 2008?

I have a one night room reserved, at Pop, and I think Disney will roll it over to 08. I didn't sign a contract with TNT yet, so I'm covered there. If you guys don't mind I still want to be a member of this thread...you guys are great for keeping me motivated :thumbsup2

running around the mall is nice! i've seen a lot of people doing just that whenever i'm down there (which isn't very often even though i'm so close :rotfl: ) it's beautiful outside right now here! (i'm about 30min from bethesda...) i'm actually debating about running now, or later.

Monte- of course you can stick around and be a member of this thread. As long as you post, you're a team member.

I just got back from a 3 mile walk. I had time to kill before I make my way over to NIH. I did a long walk around the streets from my hotel.

Mile 1: 16:41 min
Mile 2: 16:31 min
Mile 3: 21:23 min (had to find the entrance to a park, and go to the bathroom).

I'm still looking forward to going down to the DC Mall and running around the monuments there. I hope it doesn't get too hot. It's beautiful here right now. No humidity at all.

Ok, so I typed up some big response last night and the internet ate it!

Pungodingy - where are you in NH? I don't think I've seen anyone else from NH on here before. I am in Nashua & spend alot of time up at Sunapee.

Cam - awesome 8 miler!

I forget the rest that I responded to! I was a lump yesterday and sat around at the lake all day. After sitting and reading, I got up and my left hip was killing me! It got worse as the night wore on and I had a hard time sleeping last night. Today it is better, but I am on the fence about doing my scheduled 7 miles later on. I really want to since DL is only 5 weeks away. but I also don't want to hurt it further. The weird thing is, I've done no exercise since Thursday night!
