Wk of April 27 - WISH Walking/Running Club

So many posts, so little time. I'm gonna break this up because I wouldn't want to miss anyone.
From last week's thread:

Howard: "Opportunity cost"? Oh, you're so ready to graduate. I needed to google that to make sure it was what I thought it was. It was, whew! I do understand, and appreciate, the importance of a whole-grain Minnie Muffin, though! :thumbsup2

Craig: Thanks for well wishes on the running and the flat-hunting--both are much appreciated. And it would be doubly appreciated if you could keep up the good thoughts while we continue to search for the perfect space in Pittsburgh, in the Squirrel Hill area. I KNOW your good thoughts helped me through my run, almost as much as your good advice!

Like this, which I'm going to use post-1/2 and before my marathon training:
Build with lots of easy runs, and a few shorter and quicker, and longer and even easier efforts. Before you know it you'll be back on form.
:thumbsup2

Tracy: The foam roller on your abs? Do tell! I've used rollers with the arms and legs, but not the abs. Of course, that could be because I tend to avoid the core work. (Must...do...Pilates...tonight.) I'm with you on the flash forward, and think it's related to all the references to time & rule breaking. I need to rewatch the Lost eppy, because I think those Sayid's wife's coffin is separate from the one Jack visits.

P.S. Has your Eye2Eye shirt come yet?

Vic: Vroom, vroom. Buy one of those stock cars for your 2nd childhood, and share it with Timmy & me!

Jackie: Wow, the players for Chelsea and Man U are certainly as spirited as the fans. I've been trying to follow the post-game scuffle, and am still unclear as to what precisely happened. The game, though, I have to admit we celebrated a bit. (And the Chelsea fandom for DOOD goes back to his nostalgia for his undergrad study-abroad days, so I hope that gets a little slack with your DH. ;) ) Great job with working on your form work on Friday afternoon--that's such hard work. And I do think you'll see a difference when you incorporate Chi Running techniques, too! As with Carol, I'd love to hear more about your RW strategies/training.

Allie: 6 miles! :woohoo: That's great--and your time was, too! I'm also impressed that you have this "in the moment" attitude where you savor each new experience. You'll get the hang of the sports beans, I'm sure. They're an acquired taste and consuming them takes some practice. But, as you said, you don't need to worry about keep track of what the Garmin does, so you can focus on fueling. Yay!

Amy: Sweet 3 miler on Friday. See, you're getting runs in that make up for the stonkers! How much eyeliner was Navarro wearing, btw? Just curious.

Monte/Monica: Geesh. Now that's a substantial winter season. You must be itching to get out, especially since many of us here are talking about getting outside and even worrying about the heat.

Aloha Jeff: I just want to second Jeff's call for Minnie Pictures and to echo his well wishes for everyone!

CarolA: How is your calf feeling? And I'd love to hear more about your Galloway group and its training.

Kim: Great news about finishing your first 1/2. :cool1: And jazzed! Hah--how appropriate to be "jazzed" for the Music City event. Very clever! And it's cool to hear about more WISH kids getting bit by the running bug. :goodvibes And I think you did a great job. The race was great, with the time you log being secondary. What's important is that you feel energized & ready to do more!

Angie: It really sounds like your new work schedule is going to leave you with more time and energy for the rest of your life. :woohoo: I'm glad you're able to find XT activities that will help keep you from getting hurt--and am amazed that you're finding benefits in the elliptical, as you've hated it for so long. Yay for being smart in your recovery process--and double :yay: for your DH always having your back. (Hah!)

Jen: You and Monte/Monica both deserve to win lottery tickets to some sunny resort place. I'm glad you have Butt Kicker to keep you company and/or in training.

As for me: I'm going to break up my weekend to match the posts, so if you want to know what I did you'll just have to read them all.

Saturday was my 10-miler, which I was looking forward to after this odd WO week. I didn't push myself as hard as I might have liked, and used my RW strategy to offset the slight problems breathing with all the pollen. (I didn't have allergies until about 5 years ago... :confused3) Anyway, I was happy to finish feeling as good as I did, even if I was a little disappointed by the time: 1:57 and some change. The day went well, I thought, right up until that night, when DOOD & I....

And you'll just have to wait until the next installment of The Perils of Pauline, er, Debra.

Debra - You crack me UP!! Yup, Butt Kicker was kind to me yesterday and my run/walk on her was OK! I think she felt sorry for me and my back pain!

Karen - SO GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN!

Firedancer - You will have to let us know if everything is in small scale.

Michelle - I honeymooned at WDW and wore my wedding ears on TOT. They flew off my head and then landed back down. Pretty cool!

Oh, more responses, this time to Sunday's posts....

Mel: There's no way you should bring a laptop to WDW. You need to spend all available time running and resting, eating and laughing, and Disney-ing and WISHing your heart out!

No active blog for me these days, unless you count a SP post occasionally. I've done one, might go back to one, but I seem to spend a lot of writing time here....:rolleyes1 Thanks for asking, as I'm picking up on new reading material!

My favorites of the commandments: "Never confuse the Ben-Gay tube with the toothpaste tube," followed by "Don’t be a whiner. Nobody likes a whiner, not even other whiners." And a new Oscar Wilde-an comment: "There is nothing boring about running. There are, however, boring people who run."

Leana, Z, Kim, Morgan, Jen, Aloha Jeff, Scott: Thanks for sharing your blogss, training, and lives with us!

TXAng: I love our rescue animals, and almost everyone I know has at least one. I love that you're of the same mindset. WTG with finishing W2 of C25K. I think everyone feels nervous at various points of the plan, and then looks back and says, "Remember when...." Btw, did you know there's a C25K thread on the main WISH forum? I found it helpful.

Kim U: :woohoo: for the new-running shoe fetish. I'm embarrassed to admit that I own 3x as many running, XT, and comfy sneakers as any other kind of shoes. Okay, maybe I'm not *that* embarrassed. I just love how you're already replanning your planned vacations around races. You're addicted, you are!

Allyson: Yay for DH going on the road with you--I'm so glad that you two are making this journey together. Tell DH that my first pair of "real" running shoes necessitated I shift my aesthetic eye a bit. Now I think running shoes are beeyoooteeful, but back then...

Bill and Carol: Thanks for acting as our go-to gurus with the Garmin 305!

Kim: DD15 + mall? GOOD LUCK!

Dave: And I wouldn't want you to have a blog if it would take precious Panda time away from us! Tell Erica that we know she's going to do a fabulous job with her training once she's given the green light--in part because you're going to have her stretching!! :thumbsup2 I second Jen's requests for stretching exercises.

Monica: Doggie Days? At what a cool place you must work! (Where is that, might I inquire?) I'm sure that everyone likes it, except the pool cleaners of course. I'm glad you had a great WO, too!

Morgan: And I love the image on your blog's first page. Verbal diarrhea--I know the, um, feeling!

Tracy: It sounds like your taper LW went well--how is the rest of the taper going for you? (Emotionally, eating, other training.) I, too, am a NB girl; I love lots of shoes, but keep being fitted/come back to NB.

Bill: Happy belated Easter!! :goodvibes

Jen: I'm so sorry to hear your back is hurting. Please be careful with your running & XT before the race (all the time, really, but especially before the Minnie). Happy belated birthday to your DD!

Leana: :woohoo: on PRing your 5K!!! That's such good news! Craig's advice is as ever, I'm positive, right on track!

Kira: :cool1: for August, WDW, and free dining! You're going to have a great time! I just stayed at the Poly for the first time this April, and I know you are going to love it! It's got a nice little running loop, too, so that will give you something to dream about on your runs at home.

Aloha Jeff: Great pictures of the entire family. It sounds like the clinic had a healthy number today, and has stablized. It sounds like everyone's doing quite well with the mileage and pace; you're doing important work with them and I hope they realize how lucky they are to have you as one of their leaders.

Scott: Scrap a rest day? But your rest days always sound so...restful!! And like such fun. Then again, your weekend with the Tour de Georgia and the Six Flags might just trump your planned rest day for excitement. How was Six Flags, anyway? I can only imagine the long lines being frustrating. (Spoiled, I am.)

Betsy: You are a Tri Warrior! :worship: How many do you do in an average season?

Stacie: Love the Lilo t-shirt...you could be an honorary member of Team Ohana with that one! :upsidedow

Craig: Awwww. I can tell that this Minnie is going to be one of your most memorable, pleasurable races in your career. You're ready for whatever happens, and I'm sure it'll be great.

disneyluv: The Minnie people make me want to go, too! They sure are excited, aren't they? (Not to mention great people I want to hang with for the bragging rights.) Still, I think your walk & goals are entirely worth mentioning. WTG on the training!

Lily: Good job with avoiding injury with your quad & getting to the Minnie start line raring to go!

Jackie: Congrats on your strong 5K race. And I think your rest-day plans are very smart--I, too, watched the Pilates for Dummies DVD before attempting the exercises (as I do with any WO DVD). It builds anticipation, you know.

SamSam: Well, I think a WTG for your 10 miler is in order--it may have been a longer training walk than you anticipated, but at least you're well-prepared for the Minnie, which should seem like such a short distance now! :lmao:

As for me: In my last installment, I told you that I successfully completed my 10 miler in a sturdy if not stellar way. DOOD, btw, completed his 20 miler. All seemed to be going well until that night, when...

we decided to see a 3 hour production of King Lear. That's right, we had put off seeing this lighthearted Shakespeare production until its last night, for whatever reason. So on the evening following our LRs, we decided to go to the theater, where we could sit in knee-crunching comfort and try to concentrate on the pain and heartbreak on the stage instead pain and aches of our bodies. Not too successfully, I might add. I spend much of my time empathizing with two of the actors with physically demanding roles, thinking about how their quads and knees and backs must be hurting. (Hmmmm, do you think I was projecting?)

It occured to me the next day (Sunday) that sitting still for any length of time after a LR, barring the ice baths which just seem to be endless, is not the best recovery strategy. Why do I say this? Because when I got up Sunday I was doing my best impression of Lear himself, hobbling from one room to the next & shaking my fist at the gods. I was, in short, my own tragedy on Sunday morning as I tried desperately to find some good reason to WO.

As luck would have it, though, my motivation to exercise & manage my stress was quickly forthcoming. For that morning....

(Ah, you can feel the tension build. But to find out what happened Sunday and today, you'll have to wait until the next post.)

Hi, everyone!
Debra - you blow me away!!! :worship:

Michelle (Mia Banda) -- :welcome:

:welcome: to anyone else I might have missed, too!

Karen -- why does it not surprise me that everytime you say LTO it's because you and John have been out making someone else's life easier?

Sorry this is so brief.
No LW/R this weekend because I spent Friday night helping a friend look for a dress (her workouts are really doing wonders for her. She was a knockout! :faint: ) and we had such a great time! I was glad to have gotten to the gym Friday morning. I swear, these days it seems I work out so that I can eat things like chicken satay! :lmao: Saturday was a first birthday party for our "niece" whom we adore adn we got to see our Godchildren.
Yesterday was 9 hours at the office.

This morning, we started week 2 of C25k. W2D1 was really not as bad as I'd feared. WHEW!!!!

As for a blog, I don't keep one. I leave the blog writing to those whose writing is such that others are entertained or informed reading it. I do, however, keep a WISH journal here on the DIS, that I started right after my last heart surgery.

Okay, off to finish some stuff on my desk. Only 3 more work days until I am off to my happy place! :cloud9:

And I'm almost caught up, as I approach Monday's posts....

Cecilia: The WOW/MOM sign is a great idea, as is your soap-box suggestion of having names on shirts. What fun it must have been to see the cheering. I'm also touched that you wrote "for my dad" on your shirt. I'm sure that gave you a boost for what turned out to be a tough race for you. Congratulations to you for making it through and to DH (and his non-ITB issues. Good news.)

Claire: That makes sense, then, because your advanced degrees are appealing to working professionals as well as full-time students. You're going to be flying through your doctorate, though! I take it your future plans include being open to working higher education? Btw, your trail running/blackberry fueling day sounds like a lot of fun and is giving me hunger pangs!

Carrie: That was some wind on your run--1 mpm difference? And of course you find the positive in that by looking at your splits. Does the 4 sleeps before the Minnie mean you can actually sleep the night before you go to Disney? I'm still like the kid at the holidays, waking up to see if it's time to get up yet.

Jen: I think you need a rest day from DD's birthday celebration. It sounds exhausting, especially the Barbie love. Oh, and step away from the pizza and cake, as they're not good for the pre-Minnie fueling. You can send it to me, and I'll take it off your hands. Then again, maybe I'm just jealous you're going to Disney and looking to compensate. (Your WI, not jealous of quite so much. Or at all.)

Monica: 120 dogs?? That wasn't all at once, right? :scared1: So what was the prize for the air contest, besides owner's bragging rights?

Frank: Your Cleveland 10 miler went fabulous! You sound like you have an excellent sense of pacing. Your Italy trip is approaching quickly, and the biking Tuscany sounds like it will be so very cool. I think you should start a blog just to keep a record of the trip for us WISHers! ;) I do hope you find Italy as picturesque as Epcot. ;)

Heather: Congrats on your 6 miler & time. This puts you in a great position for the Minnie, doesn't it! Plenty of time for pics on the course.

Scott: Wow, your trip is that close. Promise me you'll capture a picture of Bingham in a compromising position, okay? He's a dirty bird, I just know it! I'm sure you'll be online at least one more time before you leave, but just in case..I just the Minnie event and whole trip will be everything you want it to be!

Amy: Six Pilates classes? :worship:

Krista: It's kind of a relief to know you haven't had another encounter with your neighbor's dogs, but I agree with you: not sure that the incident taught them anything. Still, I'll keep my fingers crossed. I think your plan to follow the MfM walking 1/2 marathon is a great idea for your needs, btw. And in the baby news--yay for Stephen's getting to see and feel the baby. Plus, a baby page for Carter? Oooh, baby!

Dana: Your 8 miler sounds like it was challenging, in a good way, and I'm sure you'll pick the pace that allows you to maximize your fun. I love the anecdote about Michael's birthday--I have this mental image of the whole cake with sparkler candles. What a cool idea. Are you British, by any chance? You're the only Stateside person I know, barring myself, who uses flipping as an adjective.

Leana: What a great bike ride, barring the auto driver. The hill WO sounds, um, exhilarating. Were the wings good? In case you don't have time to post/read before you leave, GOOD LUCK and I'm sure you're going to have a great time!

Stacie: Feel good about your 8 miler. You've done the training, stayed uninjured, and are going to do just fine at the Minnie. You're absolutely right--your "job" right now is to get to the starting line. Remember Race Commandment #22: No matter how slow you run it is still faster than someone sitting on a couch.

MiaBanda Michelle: :welcome: Welcome to WISH, Walt's Warriors, and the weekly thread!! It's great to have you here and to know of another person doing the DL 1/2 (I'm so jealous) and a Tri! Wow!

CB Michelle: Yay for finding (maybe) the dress. I think it's a great sign that you didn't want to take it off. It sounds like you got some good running in, plus a whole lot of heavy-lifting, back-bending yard work. Talk about your XT. I'm sure this weekend will make getting back to running 1) easier, as you've been so active and 2) seem like a rest day.

Karen: Hopefully the LTO train will slow down just a bit, long enough for you to catch a transfer to slower route. It sounds like you've been doing a good job of managing different responsibilities and keeping up with as much training as possible. And as someone who's looking at moving in the next month or so, I just need to say how much your willingness to help your friends' DD move says about you. You've earned some good karma, you have!

Jen: It's good to know Butt Kicker knows when to ease up. No need for a TM to break your spirit or your back. (Pssst. I think she like you.)

Cam: What a busy weekend you had! You, like Karen, are always doing such good things for people so I'm glad you were able to go dress-shopping with a friend & see your "niece" & godchildren. You more than deserve such time since you work so hard (9 hours on Sunday? :scared1:). I'm also delighted that you're working through C25K. You and TXAng are pretty close in schedule, so it'll be fun to watch you two go through the program together.

As for me: When last I left you, I was feeling sore from a LR followed by an extended period of sitting to watch a Saturday-night production of King Lear. (Yes, I know how to live it up.) I was feeling a bit sore and didn't know if I wanted to WO or take a rest day. You see, I wasn't sure if a XT day would help me loosen up from the excessive sitting or if it would be better to have a rest day from the LR. Decisions, decisions.

But then DOOD & I got....the call. From Albert, who we had believed would be our new landlord. He was calling to let us know he'd decided to rent to another person. No explanations, although our best guess was that he was uncomfortable with renting the place to people with pets (he'd told us as much). Now, we weren't aware that he was accepting other applications (he'd implied otherwise) and we have to start the apartment-hunting again. Not a tragedy on a grand scale, but certainly a bit of minor drama in my life.

Thus, my late Sunday morning went from me eyeing my NYTimes and the bed to suddenly feeling the need to move, to get out of my head for a while. And that's what I did, a light XT WO at the gym with lots of stretching as I listened to a voice that sounded an awful lot what I imagined a Panda would sound like if it spoke. And what do you know? It was the right decision--not only did my muscles feel better, but so did my head and my stress level.

In fact, I credit Saturday's LR and yesterday's XT to me being at all stable/sane today as we once again made appointments to see new places this week/weekend (what is this, the 3rd weekend)? And I KNOW that keeping limber and active yesterday helped me get through my Monday run. That, and Carrie's 10 minute rule, which encouraged me to get started. I ended up doing an easy, slow 4 miler with lots of CD and some biking at the gym, as it was pouring rain this a.m.

So once again, I built up this narrative filled with dramatic tension, only to disappoint you. There weren't even monkeys to serve as comic relief or ice cream to sweeten the sad tale. Alternately, in my tale--unlike in Lear--no one dies. Except maybe Albert, if the apartment hunt doesn't go well this week and a fit of vengeance strikes me. (It's probably just easier to find another apartment, huh?)

This may or may not be helpful but . . .

There is a fabulous wine bar in Florence near the Duomo. Excellent food, and Chianti Classico that does and should pair perfectly with the local cuisine. We ate there twice last May and were treated like honored guests. There is a little fellow who waited on us both nights, and when we left there were lots of hugs and nearly tears ("you are the man," "no, you are the man").

It is just below the Duomo, towards the river. I cannot recall for sure, but with Google maps, the wine bar is on Via Della Canonica (most likely), Via Della Oche (somewhat likely) or Via de'Bonizzi (least likely).

If there is a more beautiful city than Florence, I don't seem to have been there. Enjoy, I'm completely envious.

Craig

Question: do you guys have blogs?

Yes...it is the link b/low. I have met a wonderful group of people in Charlotte from this site. I also can post my WOs and keep up with my miles/ect

Good news on my mom...she is FINISHED with chemo! :cool1:

Oh, and about dogs...had one chase me and sis on our bikes yesterday...pit bull...real scarry b/c there was a car coming and we could not get over...I had decided that I would run over him with my bike and kick his brains in if he came too close....I know that sounds mean but he was out for blood. He was a crazy dog...why do they always chase you while you are going up hill.

Sorry all about me but my life and job is totally crazy....:sad2:

GOOD EVENING TEAM

I can not possibly begin to catch up with everyone but I will do what I can:
Mel - NO blog for me. That's very cool about pharmacy school, I didn't even know there was one out there until the girls at the nail salon I go to told me about it because they are both applying there.

Jackie Congratulations on beating last year's time. BTW - where did you find the pilates for dummies dvd I have set out this week to find it and i was wondering if i should just order online before i start looking everywhere?
SamSam NICE JOB ON THE 10!!!! :dance3:
Cecilia Thanks for the tip on the shirts, if I make it to the full next year I definately will do. I felt the same way when I scream-teamed for Disney full this year, I LOVED when people had their names on their shirts.

Cosi Bella Glad you got the 3 miles in Friday and that you felt better Saturday.
Karen I'm glad to see you, every time we use our bag I think of you guys and I was wondering how you were.
Debra :cloud9: I just love your posts!!! I WISH you were coming to MINNIE. Thank you so much for putting a huge smile on my face, just when I need it.

Not really such good news for me right now. After all that time off last week not so sure it helped as much as I hoped. Did 6 miles last night and I did maintain a 10 minute pace but the whole run was extremely painful. The thing is when I complain about "back pain", it's not just back, its in my knees down the side of my leg, all over. I really don't know what I am going to do about this weekend at this point. Now I should qualify all of that with the fact that I did not eat enough Saturday and Sunday, was not hydrated and when I ran at 7 pm it was still 84 deg :scared1: , the legs felt like they wieghed a hundred pounds.

So tomorrow evening I am going to the gym to lift and I will try a slow easy run on treadmill and see how it goes. NO matter what I will walk the 5k with my mom this weekend, but I just don't know about 15k at this point.

Sorry to be such a downer but the thought of not doing the 15k at all this weekend makes me very sad:sad1:

I ordered the DVD from Amazon - didn't even try to find it locally.

Are you sure lifting is the best idea this week? Just one opinion, but I think I'd take it easy until this weekend and be as rested as you can going into the 2 races... I just worry about you! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll be able to do both of them.

Jackie

Thanks for the tip on Amazon!!

You are so sweet  Kind of funny that we met up at 5k this year marathon weekend, since we both were a little too shy to talk to everyone else. Thank you for your concern. When I say "lift". I really only do the upper body exercises and they are very light wieght with a lot of reps, of course, by tomorrow night after work I might just have to agree with you and go home and rest. :)

Oh My... where do I begin. Debra how can I compete with your 5million posts?? Well, I just can't, so there you have it and there it is!! :)

Kim U: not sure if I said this before, but YEAH for your Half!!, and if I didn't say it before, then YEAH for your half!! haha. I am a "N" shoe kinda girl = New Balance.

Scott: Relaxing and packing on Sunday (yesterday) went well, until....my desktop computer got caught in a loop and will not startup all the way. I am using my laptop for now until I can get it figured out or the IT person that works on our computers at work can help me. ugh! Looks like your ready for the Minnie. Can't wait to meet everyone!

Monte: That doggie days at the pool sounded cool. My Border Terrier really hates getting in the pool. She would rather bark at the splashing water. (I know, she is a weird dog)

Stacie: I loved your shirts. Very nice.

Jen: How's the back doing??

SamSam (Sharon): Wow!! You did 8, oh right, you did 10. 10 miles? You sure are prepared for Minnie, you may just pass me up!!

Leana: I'm Jealous you will be at the World before me. Good luck on getting acclamated to our lovely weather here in FL.

Judy: Sorry to hear about the hamstring. Stretch, stretch and more stretch for you.

Kira: The Poly??? I love the Poly. I stayed there this past January and hope to stay there again in Jan.09.

Betsy: I think you should be called a TRI-Dominator!! You go girl!!

Debra: You are soooo funny. I don't use the foam roller on my abs you silly thing you, however it does work your abs a bit when trying to use the roller on your calves/hamstrings. hehe. I am trying to picture the foam roller on a person's abs. LOST - I think the coffin Jack is visiting and the coffin that Sayed is carrying are not related at all. Hey I want a part in that stock car, I can't drive it, but that is not important! My taper is going well, thanks for asking. I was and am very tired tonight. Sorry to hear about the weirdo guy not wanting to rent to you. You don't need him anyway!!

Anybody I missed: Hey, how are you? How's it going? Sorry to hear about that sore muscle. LTO, sorry about that, it'll get better. Yeah on getting out there and pounding the pavement. I hope that covers most of it.

As for me, well today was a rest day. I really needed some rest. I worked today and Mondays are late days. After lunch I was so tired that at times I would be just staring into space and my eyes would start to close. I did make it home ok and now I'm chillin with my laptop and trying to catch up with this thread and watch Dancing with the Stars. My computer (desktop) decided not to behave yesterday and I spent most of the day trying to get it to start back up without it getting stuck. I lost some sleep trying to figure it out. Nascar went well yesterday and my driver even lead a lap at one point, but in the end got mixed up in a crash right before the finish. Well, off to finish watching DWTS and then off to bed!!

Goodnight everyone.

I don't have time to reply to everyone, but want to respond to a few:

Angie - Go easy on yourself! You have worked so hard to get where you are - try to pat yourself on the back and focus on everything you have accomplished. You sound a lot like me. Sometimes I get so focused on how I think that things "should" look that no matter how wonderful they are I can only see where I fell short. I do this as a Mom, in my job, with my home, in short everywhere! The only reason I'm not yet doing it as a runner is that I'm still in the stage where I keep exceeding my expectations! I know that it one of these days I'll be just as hard on myself about my running as I am about anything else - but hopefully I don't listen to my own thoughts about it, Go out there, do what makes sense for your body, and have fun!

I don't remember who asked me about my trip to get my daughter's ear's pierced, but it went really well. It only hurt her for a few minutes, and she is just thrilled with how they look.

And thank you to everyone who congratulated me about our stay at the Poly! I am still beside myself with excitement! I actually am afraid that I won't be able to stay anywhere else after this trip.

Finally, I have meant to say something to Krista and Steve for a while. I remember the days of being pregnant with my first so well (even though now she is 16 and driving  ), and they are so precious! I loved being pregnant (maybe that's why I did it 4 times!!), and loved having an infant. I even loved giving birth, in a weird way that maybe marathon runners can understand! I am really and truly done with the baby phase of my life (sigh), but be sure to enjoy every minute of it.

Hello to everyone else! I've kept up with your posts this week - yay!

OK that's it for me tonight. Today was not a running day for me, but I think I'll go upstairs and get those Pilates exercises in before it gets too late.

Angie,

Do nothing but stretch this week. Give your back a break, and sounds like your Iliotibial band is acting up. Use a foam roller on the leg, and a exercise ball to stretch out your back.

Everyone else, listen to your bodies. If there is any pain, rest a day or two. If you are injured, our clinic doctor recommends eight weeks off. I know that's a lot of time off, but do what the doctor ordered! :confused3

Everyone headed to the World, have fun for the rest of us! Have a great race weekend.:cheer2:

Happy Taper Tuesday, everyone!
(Hey, has that been copyrighted/trademarked?).

Winding down for Minnie this weekend, but couldn't go without trying to get in one more "good" run. Did 3 on the TM, and it wasn't half bad. I am coming to the conclusion that something or other will always hurt while I run, but not in an injury-way.

Anyway, also decided to try and drink some Gatorade before I ran, just to see what it's like (never tried it) and just in case I have to drink it or something like it on Sunday. (As backup) . It was fine by me. So here's the question: How many times do you run trying out a new product (gu, gel, beans, ade) before you decide you're good to go? Under what conditions--long run, short, etc., how much of it?

So I've decided (yes, for sure) only XT for me tomorrow and Thursday. Definitely going to give myself two rest days (although I will be at Disney, so I have to try not to go overboard at the parks)

Hope everyone else has a great day. And Debra, I'll add to the chorus--you are amazing at posting. It's a gift to find something to say to everyone on the board.

Quick request of my Wish friends. At Minnie, if you see a redhead in a TNT shirt with a princess crown on her head at the 15k, please wish her happy birthday. My running buddy will be there on Saturday celebrating her big day all alone. Don't tell her I told you.

I am signing off for a few days - unless I can find computer access from Johns Hopkins. I will be thinking of all of you at Minnie. I hope it is absolutely perfect weather and a great event for all.

Cecilia

Cecelia - We'll be thinking of you. :grouphug:

TXAng - BTW, I went for years of grouwing myhair out, then chopping it off, and almost immediately re-growing because I hated it. About 4 years ago, I chopped it and it suck. EVery time I think of growing it out again, I'll have some stranger out of teh blue tell me they like my hair. :confused3 Trust me, I'm not one to get compliments on my looks from strangers! SO, this style stuck. I keep the sides longer, though, so I can pull them back, enless my stylist goes crazy...:sad2:

Debra - :rotfl2: I thought the finding yourself as King Lear SUnday mornign was tragic. SO was not getting the apt. There was someone from WISH 05 who ran the amrathon adn then jumped in the car for a long car ride home. I don't recall who she wsa, as I was just scoping things out, but I will never forget how she described that pain. :scared1: BTW, can't you sneak away to Minnie????? Oh, and I don't usually sleep for a week before. (To the extent that I got drugs from the doc, who gave me the weirdest look. I mean really, who hasn't gotten scripts so they can sleep before DIsney trips??? :rotfl: ) This week has not been a problme, as i haven't really slept in the last wekk or so.

Maura - I usually test on a long run to see if things will work fro me. Once is usually enough. With gatorade/powerade, you may want to try it adn hour or 2 before your run (long or short) to see if it will give you heart burn. BTW, tehy usually have Powerade (half strength)on teh course. See you soon!

Tracy - Thank you so much ofr your person concern fro me, as one of teh missed. :rotfl: DOn't know why, that struck me as hilarious!

AngieT - I'm with teh others. Rest and'or stretch this week. No more. :grouphug:

Scojo - You missed a rest day????? What is this world coming to???

Well, I did my 30 min lastnight. Did not want to go. Almost pulled teh 5 minute rule, but then the aches went away. My ILs live in a crauddy, backwater, depressed area with teh world's worst roads (OK, tey were better than the roads around Martian, but not too much). I think those did some damage. Yoga tonight will help. I have 30 min scheduled for tomorrow, but will nix them if anything hurts. That will eb the pre-race 0 minute rule. ;)

Christa - Forgot to add a huge woo hoo   for mom beng done with chemo. :wizard: :wizard: for lots of negative follow up tests!

Good morning, everyone!
Angie -- I am worried about you, sweetie! Would you be willing to walk the Minnie 15k with some of us penguins? We'd LOVE your company and you'd still get the medal and you can "blame" your pace on those of us talking your ear off. Think about it. I'd hate for you to miss the race. It doesn't have to be RUN or don't start. Pretty please?

I had to drive the carpool this morning (Howard had a meeting), so I was up at 5:30, at the gym by 6 and home by 7:15 to drive the boys. I did an hour on the bike while looking through bridal magazines. :cloud9: Since my time was shifted back, my WO partner and I decided we'll do W2D2 of C25k tonight. :woohoo: I am actually excited to see how it goes.

WISHing everyone a good day. :grouphug:

ETA:
Christa -- So glad DM is done chemo! I hope she is feeling well.
Cecilia -- you are in my thoughts and you and your Dad are in my prayers.

Angie - I like Cam's advice. You'd have so much fun with them. If not them, I'm at least at a slower pace. Here's my game plan for SUnday: I'm going to see what the day gives me. If I can go sub-11 and feel good and possibly PR, I will. However, as soon as it stops being fun or something hurts or the heat gets to me, I am dropping back to the next WISHer and going to go for fun. If I can't keep up with that one, I'll go some more until I can take pictures adn laugh adn enjoy the race! Personally, I think you shoudl bag any PR thoughts and just go for fun and do what the body can without pushing. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Just a quick Kev-centric post to prove that I haven't run off again...

Yesterday I did another 5K, in 28:58. Apparently that's the best I can do in 85 degree weather right now.

I can't believe it's been four months since the marathon and already May. I really must stick with posting here to make sure I get my runs in..... now that things are a bit slower I'm doing tons of travelling on my off days here so I've got to make sure to get the steps in...

Back for individuals later, I promise...
