Wk of April 19 - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

I channelled my inner Kara Goucher this morning and did 6.2 miles in 46 minutes.

Today's a double day for me as I have dance practice in the evening

I also did cardio kickboxing last night.

Frank, I'm sure Nashville will be awesome. It's on my birthday and next year I'm hoping to be there (as it will be the day after my birthday). You're shooting for a 1:30, right?

Swmr 359 Hope you get out there today!

Best,
Jennifer

Hi everybody.

A little distracted today as I hear about more of my colleagues who are being shown the door--today is the day of "involuntary separations" I am not one of them, nor are any people in my group, for which I should be grateful. (I am, although I am somewhat ambivalent at this point) One of my good buddies here, who was recently in my group, wasn't so fortunate, along with soeone from my former group. I brought donuts AND bagels for people--some days you just need carbs!

Jennifer Too cool about Bill. Bill won back when I was an undergrad. Don't recall if I actually saw any of his victories in person or not.

Debra Yes.... motivation.... tell me about it. (No--please--tell me--I am not motivated enough to tell you! ;) ) I agree on having the race to motivate one, but sometimes even that is not enough. I make bargains with myself. Workout today and you can (fill in the blank). Today, I ditched my tri workout and lifted weights, just cause I felt like it. The point is to just do something.
Sorry I missed the mixer--I have always thought that I would like to be granted a wish to understand and speak all languages. (Although your twist sounds rather "Twilight Zone"--be careful what/how you wish for. Reminds me of an X file episode)

Carrie Hope your tri training starts off well. I am getting a little bored/frustrated by mine. The more training I do, the LESS I feel like I can finish a tri. Sunday I did a swim and run and has one of those "What makes you think you can do this" moments. I need to go buy a new swimsuit (one that fits normal body types-not a slit up to there racing suit! YECH)

Anyway, back to work.

Maura

(And what is up with Tony Almeda?)

Jennifer: I am SOOO looking forward to hearing about the "goal which shall not be named!" The anticipation.

Maura: Still sorry to hear about the "Involuntary Separations" (I do love that term and will use it in my vocabulaty!) That was nice of you to bring in the snacks. Yes, some days you just gotta have CARBS or even CHOCOLATE!! And on those days no one on god's greens earth is going to stop you from partaking!!

AFM: Just hangin in there. I had some April Showers this AM. Woke up to hard rain, thunder and lightening. Good thing I am off today, so I just pulled up the sheet, rolled back over and went back to sleep for a bit. Then got up to feed the dog and checked the radar and looked like it would clear so got on my walking clothes and out the door I went. Got in 4.10 miles.

Take care all my WISH buds!!

Racey Tracy

Does anyone else want Tracy's work schedule? I do! :lmao:

I've still got a lingering cold. It's stuck in my chest, and I'm blowining out green stuff. So I'd say I'm still contagious at this point.

Like a fool, I worked all day yesterday, and up to 11 am today. But due to the current conditions, I am leaving work now.

I guess all the traveling and running like a fool has caught up to me. My body is saying, uh uh buddy, go back to bed.

Pat: I generally need a carrot, too, and I really admire the goals you've set for yourself. That whole race/bling/checklist is such a good strategy, especially since it gets combined with travel (with friends like Lily!). That might be what I need to do.

Lily: Just because I knew I needed to say I did something before I came here again--because of you :goodvibes--I went out today. Because being held accountable does help. :thumbsup2 You're going to have a great time at CMM, ESPECIALLY with all that hill work. Poor Kirby's going to miss all the fun. :rotfl2:

Stan: I second Pat's call for a RR!

Carrie: I'm sorry to hear about your running burnout. I understand, I really do. But yay for tri training, right? What's your first event?

Angie: I can't remember who--PR Lisa?--has the Mizuno Waves and loves them. I'd be suspicious of someone who can't tell you why they're recommending them, though. Are you going to a running store with a return policy that allows for test runs? That would help me decide whether to invest in an expensive shoe, especially without a better sense of why the shoes are a good choice.

Jennifer: So cool that you got to meet Bill Rodgers. I'd be just like you described yourself, except less coherent. Well, since your friends are laying down times for your anticipated finish, can I play too? Can I, can I, can I? So, I'm going to go for 1:49:15, which puts you at an 8:20 pace. Your training has been going very well, you've done the distance, you're speedy on the short distances, and you've got race experience. I assume you're running alone to challenge yourself? I'd like to challenge you to break that 1:50 mark and I'm hazarding a guess you're just a bit competitive. ;) So I'm throwing down the gauntlet (do note I could never do that pace).

And mostly, I just believe you can do it, barring unforeseen circumstances. You're doing to rock your 1/2 half, regardless of your time! :woohoo:

Swmr359: Why the TM for brand-new shoes? Is that to make sure they fit well in controlled conditions? I ask seriously because I don't pay much attention to that kind of thing. :confused3

Frank: DOOD and I will pull out the July calendar soon! Yeah, I suppose if you have to lose your chance to sweep all the leagues, that's the one to go. Just teasing you a bit, though. :rolleyes1 More seriously, I didn't know you were feeling under the weather--and right before CMM. :scared1: I'm glad you're taking care of yourself and taking it as easy as possible this week.

Maura: I'm so sorry to hear about the involuntary separations. I'm sure it's painful for everyone, even those of you who aren't leaving. Today was definitely a double-carb day. Not to mention the wine. And maybe some tri training to burn off the simmering resentment for the situation? (That's just how I would feel, so excuse me for projecting my feelings onto you.) I love the M&Ms and think you should have some chocolate PD to brighten your day. (Like Tracy said, chocolate helps, too.)

Tracy: Great job in getting in your miles on an OFF day. (I don't think you really have one of those.) I almost managed to escape the rain....

Aloha Jeff: Aw, and you're usually the picture of health. Yes, leave work, go to bed, get some sleep. Let the princesses take care of you.

As for me: My run today, and there was one, was very short, as I was having some pain. But I'm already planning on "making up" for that, tomorrow or Thursday assuming my knee feels better. (The pain is a new one, so at least I'm making progress in gaining the spectrum of running experience...) That's because I know my trusty WISHers will continue to hound, er encourage, me to report in. Thanks! And I think that lots of RR from CMM, along with pictures, will help. Hint, hint.

And I don't know if you here on the weekly thread know this, but I've been running without a watch to try to wean myself from focusing on numbers. It's much harder than I thought it would be, and I'm not sure what that says about me. :confused3

Ya, what the heck? My youngest DS got me started watching a few seasons ago, and now I am shouting at the TV!

Sorry for all those suffering involuntary separation/etc.....these are scary times for sure. I have been very fortunate so far, but you never know.

For those suffering motivation - sometimes you just need to take a break and then be ready to come back refreshed. Other times you just need to do it because you need to do it. Sometimes I am glad to get on the TM and it is all seems so effortless. I really like those times alot!! Other times I can find a million other things to do besides putting in my steps. And then there are times when 20 minutes on the TM seems like an eternity. I don't know why this is, but I think that there must be lessons to be learned, I just wish I could get them learned already!!

I am hoping that spring will arrive here soon, some sunshine and warm weather might be just the ticket for a lot of us!!

Angie - I have Mizuno Waves. Just started on the 3rd pair. Had 2 pairs of Inspire 3's, and talked to the Mizuno rep a couple of weeks ago before buying the Inspire 4. Did my first run in them last night (which was a disaster, but I don't think it was the shoes' fault.) Switched to Saucony Pro Grid Guides last summer in between the first and second pairs of Inspire 3's, and was injured the entire summer. Don't know for sure that it was the shoes, but when I switched back to the Mizunos, things got better almost immediately.

Maura - Sorry about the "involuntary separations." I'd been thinking about you the past few days and wondering how things were going up there. This is not a fun time. We're doing much the same thing at our office - 3 people in the past 2 weeks, and we now only have 11 people in the local office. Every other Friday when we get our paycheck we all gaze lovingly at it and say "thank you!"

Jeff - I'd say your body is definitely calling for a break. Listen to it! Hope you start feeling better soon. Don't wait too long before going to the doctor, either, if it seems like you're headed down that road.

Frank - Hope you recover quickly! I know you're gonna do GREAT in Nashville!

As for "carrots," I definitely need them to keep the motivation steady. Because we're trying to be responsible and save money this spring, I haven't registered for anything other than Richmond, and November is a LONG way off. And now DH has suddenly decided that we need to do the Half at WDW, so he's trying to figure out how to pay for that! If he can swing it... :woohoo:

Great one! And that's so cool that you got to meet Bill Rogers.

My friend from work ran Boston and finished 3:59:59. How's that for sub-4! I think that is a cool number for sure.

I didn't know we had so many Bostonians here! I had planned on running my first post-fusion race on Monday. Not the marathon, but a Patriot's Day 5 miler in Lexington. I ended up not signing up because I didn't think I could finish before they broke down the finish line. It turned out some people (mostly 80 yo) finished in about what I could have done. Oh well. Now my first race will be my town's 5K on May 3rd.

My super power is being able to complicate and confuse a simple situation. I can do it without any effort at all! ;)

Hi all! Just checking in. My laptop is acting up. I may have to fire up the desktop tonight to spend some quality time on the DIS, but I will be at the Philies game first. Watch out for Facebook updates from the game!

PlutosMyFav, A friend of mine also thought about running that race. What a small world!

Debra, Competition; oh yeah it's on, the super secret goal is slightly below your challege, but that's what I think I'd run in perfect conditions.

As for me, 45 minute tempo run, which was steadier than I'd like. 12 minutes at an 8:05 then 23 minutes at a 7:35 then 10 minutes at an 8 even. About 6 miles in distance. I would have liked to see that middle section under 7:30. It was perfect running weather and I got back right before the rain hit.

Oh and I heard through the grapevine that the track coach was disappointed to find out I was a senior when my friend told him what I was running without formal training.

Best,
Jennifer

I have a fun task that hopefully you can all help us with!

Chad is the best man in his friend Dave's wedding this Saturday.
While we were out & about today, we brainstormed what we think is a great idea/outline.

He can compare a long, lasting marriage to preparing for & running a marathon (Dave runs as well).

So, here's what we have so far (very rough):

1. When you start thinking about running a marathon, you go online & find a race, or a person like Jenn, who interests you.
(they met thru an online dating service)

2. You "train," or date for quite awhile.

3. Training can sometimes get quite "Disturbing."
(I won them tix last week to the Disturbed concert - it's their favorite rock group)

4. In marriage a strong foundation is key, much like the perfect pair of running shoes.

5. The wedding day is much like race day - nerves, anxiety, but all the while knowing you are prepared for what lies ahead.

6. The bib is like a marriage license - your legal permission to participate in the race

7. The chip is like your wedding ring - so Jenn can keep you in line (????)

8. Much like a race course, marriage will have uphills & downhills, but as long as you keep plugging away, you can endure anything that crosses your path.

Thoughts????

Hi WISHers!

It looks like spring might be finally arriving in northern IL. Even though I do almost all my training on my TM I can't wait to be outside!

Kristi - very cute and clever.

Kristi--very cute and true! You could throw something in about it all being about taking things one step at a time.

Allyson :)

Checking in. Hope everyone is well and those running the CMM - good luck and have fun! :cheer2:

Started my Peachtree training this week. I'm questioning the program and thinking I might should go back to my old one that I know works, but I was really hoping to be stronger than I am right now after my forced break. I really wanted to be running and not having to do so many walk breaks. Maybe I'll give it a couple more weeks... I just don't know! :confused3

Here's my running song for the day - Primary by The Cure. I don't have much to report so I thought I'd share some music I like to run to. :surfweb:

Have a nice weekend WISHers! :grouphug:

Kristi, I love that! So cute!

4 miles this morning in 33 minutes. A little slow, I think because of the decongestant I took last night.

Planning to do Zumba and Pilates tonight with my friends.

We're supposed to have a gorgeous weekend in the North East.

Best,
Jennifer

I can't return them if they have been worn outside.

I did end up running on Tuesday (yea!) but only for a mile. I'm going to try again tonight, with my laces looser to see if that makes to shoes feel better. I hope so becuase I can't wait to be running outside again! The weather is so nice here today, it's a shame to have to run inside.

I've done more swimming and biking this week, but managed to get out for about 5K last night. I ran from my kid's karate school, so I'll have to measure with my car later today since it was a new route. I'm so high tech.
