Colleen--Are you serious?????  That's awesome that you and your sisters run together. I keep trying to get my sisters to do something, even a a 5K but none of them will (I have 4 sisters). They don't know what they are missing!! Good luck!! :wizard:.

LOL, yes Krista I am serious. But we don't actually run together in the race or in training because I am in NC and they are all in Canada. I have 7 sisters and 4 of us run (we all just took it up in the last 2 years). I am very proud of my oldest sister, she is 56 never an athlete in her younger years and Vancouver will be her 2nd half marathon. I am hoping to convince her to wog Chicago Marathon with me. My younger sister is the gazelle, sub 4 hour marathoner, my height but 30 pounds lighter. She has ran 5 marathons, but has chosen not in run in Vancouver.

Dave, Vancouver is just north of Seattle on the west coast of Canada. So I am in for a LONG plane ride this afternoon. Actually, I off to the Charlotte in 20 minutes for my "girls on the run" weekend!

Have a great weekend everyone.

St Anthony's Triathlon race report
1.5 K swim/ 40 K bike/ 10 K run
swim 34:06 2:05/ 100 yds
bike 1:16:23 19.52 mph
run 56:45 9:09/mi
overall 2:52:22

In general, I was pretty disappointed w/ my overall time. I really wanted to break 2:45 but I did the best I could w/ the conditions. The swim was brutal- my wave started at 0830 and according to accuweather at 0900 the winds were 23 mph. What that did to Tampa Bay was create 4-5 ft waves and really bad chop. They pulled between 50-100 competitors from the water depending on what report you read. Here is a link to an interesting article about it in the St Petersburg newspaper: http://www.sptimes.com/2006/05/03/Tampabay/Scary__but_race_went_.shtml According to the race director on the race forum, both competitors that needed resuscitation are Okay.
:scared1: Holy moly Lynne!!! I just read the St. Pete newspaper article on the tri. Wow, those water conditions sounded incredibly brutal. I'm glad you got through it ok. Yeah, I agree with everyone else that you can't complain at all about your time. :sad2: Whew, I'm super impressed that you made it through that race.

Hi, everyone!
Very limited time, but wanted to WISH everyone a GREAT weekend, whatever you are doing -- 5k, 1/2, full, 15k, cross-training, gardening. . . Whatever you are doing, have a great time!

I don't leave until tomorrow afternoon, but may not be here much as I try to cram in as much work as possible.

Lynne -- Just wanted to congratulate you on an awesome performance! That picture of you is wonderful! Good luck with exams, boards, life! :grouphug:

Good morning everyone!!

First things first: GOOD LUCK MINNIE RUNNERS!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: We want reports. Lots of them!!

Christa-- Good to see you back!!! Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip. I hope to get back to Jordan again some day-- fascinating place. Tell Bree Congrats from all of us!

Lynne-- Yowza!! Be proud of your accomplishment!! :thumbsup2 I know first hand that swimming in those kind of swells is kind of like being a cork on the water... no way to recover after getting the beat up on the second two legs.
Congrats!

Colleen-- Enjoy your trip!! I hear Vancouver is wonderful!!

I am sad to report that I have not been running much lately. I have been doing a great job with crosstraining in the gym, but things are so hectic I haven't been able to get outside like I want to. I am hoping to get a couple of good runs in before the week is out. Unfortunately the next couple of weeks are going to be even more hectic... I'm going to have to build these runs into my schedule and stick to it. :thumbsup2

Happy training all!
Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:

Hello everyone. This has to be a "drive-by post" as I am so far behind at work I don't know whether to laugh at the ridiculousness of it or cry at the futillity.

Had a great session this morning. I've upped my intervals again and - much to my amazement - I felt really really strong! :thumbsup2

Just really quickly....

Lynne - That's quite an accomplishment! Don't you downplay it girl. We are all so proud of you! :cheer2:

Dave - I'm so happy to hear you had an excellent run! You really deserve it after all the time you spent icing. :woohoo:

Cam - :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for Sunday!

Judy

This week I did a great 5 mile 4r/1w on Sunday (completed in 49:24), did a hilly 40 minute 4r/1w (41:21) on Monday, took a day off Tuesday and cross trained on the elliptical last night for 40 minutes. I'm going to do another 40 minute 4r/1w tonight and then take Friday night off (or maybe do the elliptical again). Then it's off to my second 5k event Saturday morning.

Everyone is doing so great and definitely staying busy!! Best of luck to everyone racing this weekend, especially those Minnie competitors!

Dana - Just wanted to congratulate you on being smoke free for a month! You are past the hardest part now and should be very, very proud of yourself! Way to go.

Dave
- You signed up for a 10k, that's awesome! My first will be on July 4th so you have to give us a race report! And congrats on the run that you had...there's nothing like the feeling you get after completing a great run!

Colleen - OMG...."hmm...wonder what I'll do this weekend....wash the car, no....take a walk, no....oh yeah, I'll sign up and do a half marathon!" You go girl! Please let us know how Vancouver is....my family wants to vacation there at some point.

Amy
- 90 push ups?!? You're a BEAST!! I'm lucky to get to 10!

Lynn
- Wow. You should not be disappointed in the least! I read the story about the water and you should be very proud of just finishing!! I really admire anyone who competes in a Triathalon, bad weather or not. You look like a real pro in the pic!

Dena - 5k this weekend!! Good luck!! You'll do great....don't worry about what others think of you. Just remember that you are out there doing it and that's something for you to be proud of and for others to be jealous of. Let us know how it went!

Kevin
- I wouldn't fret about not running...at least you got your cross training in during your busy schedule.

Now back to digesting what happened on Lost last night...OMG!! Oh yeah...now that Paris is gone, I'd like to see Elliot go next so we can have Taylor vs. Kat vs. Chris..that will be a great finale!

Have a good week!

Blech  It's raining here again. The rivers are too fast to paddle and the trails are too slick to run. I rode the bike on the trainer (worse than the TM!!!) for 50mins, doing climbs during the commercials and then ran 3 on the road in the rain. I think I'm going to shower now and get the rainy sweat off of me!!!!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Can't wait to read the various race reports!!

I bought a new pair of New Balance yesterday, but having walked a mile on my tm, I realized that they weren't a good fit and took them back. I ended up with a pair of Adidas in a half size larger than the NB. I have the worst time finding a pair of walking sneakers. I'm hitting the tm after I post to test the Adidas.....hopefully I'll have them broken in before my 10k on Memorial Day. ;)

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

So after a great run on Wednesday I tried to do an easy run yesterday and it wasn't happening. I took the princesses princess: princess: to the local park. We've had a routine where I run around the 0.75 mile perimeter loop and they play on the playground. We each have a "walkie talkie" so they can get in touch with me. My legs and shins felt sore, but I figured they would warm up. It took a lot to get geared up to go and get the princesses princess: princess: out there, we get out there, I'm warming up and the walkie talkie goes off. "Can we go home, get our kite, and come back?" I said no, and went to start my run - legs hurt but I'm used to that by now it usually goes away. 1/2 mile into my run walkie talkie goes off. "Daddy, I slid down the slid and scraped my knee at the bottom." OK, I'm coming right over. To make a long story short I didn't get my run in. To be honest, I could have stayed, the princesses princess: princess: would have been fine, but I wasn't "feelin' it" yesterday. I just didn't have the energy to get through the initial uncomfortable 1st mile of my run until my legs stopped hurting. Oh well, I went home and iced. Maybe I just need to run every other day for a while. I'm trying to decide whether to go for a run today or do my 12:00p yoga class. I haven't gone to yoga for 3 weeks, and I'm thinking my legs could use the break. I have a 5 mile run with my group tomorrow.

Scott- just wanted to say that I watch LOST too. I'm not a religious follower of the show because it moves sooooooo slowly :snail:, but I was pretty surprised by how the show ended Wednesday night. I didn't see that coming at all. My DW didn't stay up through the whole show, and when I went to bed and told her what happened she was really surprised. She watched the last 5 minutes of the show on the internet yesterday.

Dave - With that 5 miler scheduled for tomorrow I would give your poor shins a break and take the Yoga class. The stretching should help and a break before a longer run is normally a good thing.

I'm still a novice at this so I am sure others will be along with better more experienced advise but just in case that's what I would do :goodvibes

Hey everyone. I have not been on this site at all this week and I have no clue what is going on with everyone. I feel bad for that, but life went wacky this week. I ended up working very late 2 days, then had a class to take on Wednesday. I woke up super early Wednesday morning and decided to do a 2 mile wog. Got back all energized and my little 3 year old came out of her room screaming... she was having an asthma attack brought on by her allergies. The pollen count is at an all time high right now. She was coughing so hard she vomitted. So, dealing with that, trying to get to my class which was a drive, it was nuts.

I haven't ran since Wednesday morning. Life is totally exhausting me, and last night I became ill with a tummy bug. So with my very first ever 5K tomorrow.... I am so scared I won't be able to do this. My ankle aches, my belly is still upset... OH NO!

AND, as of last week there were only 11 people registered. How can that be. I checked again on Tuesday, it's up to 22... wow it doubled. The race was on the news this morning, so I pray that more people have signed up since. I just hope there are lots of procrastinators. I am a slow slow slow runner, and the fewer people there are, the more obvious that I will be 10 minutes behind the rest of the pack!!

Have a great weekend all... and GOOD LUCK at any races that are to be run this weekend!!!! I can't wait for the reports!!

Hi Minnie :wave2: Thanks for the advice. I think that is what I am going to do. I'm sure it couldn't hurt my legs to have 2 rest days.

Jen- Hang in there, do your 5K and just enjoy what you can do. Remember DL>DNF>>>DNS. Don't worry about being last. You are still so far ahead of anyone that didn't even get off the couch to run.

Haven't had time to read through all the posts. There just doesn't seem to be enough hours in a day, I seem to be always trying to play catch-up. :confused3

Anyway.....

I just wanted to wish everyone running/walking races this weekend lots of luck!!!!! Go WISH Team! :woohoo:

Whew, just got home from the gym where I was able to ride a stationary bike for an hour.....the mileage came out to 10.25.

Just because we have the laptop in the room and I can... we're at WDW!!!! We picked up our packets for the 5K this afternoon, spent the afternoon at AK, and are back in the room getting ready for dinner at Boma tonight. I can't believe that my race will be over by this time tomorrow and we'll be at EoS!

The good news is that the calf and shins haven't hurt at all, even after walking all over the park all day, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be okay tomorrow. But it is really HOT!

Good luck to everyone running other places and training. We'll have lots of stories from the Minnie.

Jackie

I'm so jealous of you Jackie! :thumbsup2 How long are you planning to stay? Are the parks packed? Good luck tomorrow with the 5k and I know you'll have a blast! :wizard:

Monica...great 10 mile ride!

Jackie...aw man...if I'd known you were going to eat at Boma tonight, I woulda stayed later ;)

I picked up packets for me and DD13 this afternoon. Ran into Nancy (perfectmatch300) and her DH on my way in :) The Expo is quite a bit smaller than the marathon expo, only about 1/4 of the floor in the Milk House was full. Our 'official' shirts are black singlets with the Minnie Marathon logo...very cool! I did pick up two Minnie pins and a subscription to HerSports magazine.

And can I say the medals are very cool! They actually have a metal medal for the 5K that looked great. I'm getting pretty excited now...going to the Expo really made it all come together.

Race report when we get back! Next week's thread may be a little late on Sunday

:grouphug: to everyone that is recovering and :thumbsup2 to all running this weekend. Have a great one & keep moving foward.
