Wk of Apr 30--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

First off, I too have envy of those participating this weekend. I can't help myself.

EVERYONE enjoy every minute, have oh such fun, and remember we need--well I need--your pics, stories and such. I am feeling like a little birdie waiting to be fed chirping away here.

Heather, if I got the privilege of the start place I would be the "greeter" to EVERYONE as they passed me. It would be exhausting! I hope you take your responsibility serously there. :teeth: :lmao: :lmao:

Nancy, have fun. It sounds like you have a lot planned. Rest next week.

Special thanks to all who sent :wizard: for DH!!!! He is doing better, but still very sore. I think he has 4 shots left in the rabies series, but the worst part is over! Yea!!!

Lynnda pixiedust: pixiedust: and MORE pixiedust: Oh, WOW!!!! Your DH is a true knight in shining armor!! Battle scars and everything!

Anne - thank you especially for your comments - DH was grinning when he read it! ;) He is definitely my knight in shining armor!!!! :cloud9:

Here's my update... I did a 5 mile run on Sunday, and my foot felt good. It was insanely hot, but I ran in the afternoon, so Sunday should be much better for the Minnie! Last night I did a practice triathlon. It was my first lake swim - YUUUUUUUCK!!! That is NOT my thing! :lmao: But my times were close to what I had hoped for. I went to the dr. today and now have all kinds of meds to help me breathe for the Minnie, so life is good! I can't wait to see all the WISH-ers!!! Only a few more days!!!!!!

Take care and happy training!

Dave -- What a riot! I know right where Plum is. We drive right through it whenever we are running errands out there. What part of New Ken is your best man in? (Feel free to send a PM if you don't want to broadcast his info! :teeth: ) Howard graduated Valley High School class of '81. He was a golfer, though, not a runner back in those days. Wow! Look at him now -- he ran 22.21 miles yesterday, training for his 5/21 Delaware Marathon. Oh, and he played and caddied at Oakmont Country Club. Funny!

Sorry, guys, for being :offtopic:

More :offtopic:: Cam- my bestman/best friend lives in "the Ramparts" a little condo community/subdivision off the main road (can't remember what road it is) that runs up from the Hulton Bridge. You just reminded me that when I ran cross country we would run some races on the Oakmont Country Club grounds.

It was such a beautiful day I actually walked alittle over 4 miles. It took an hour & 16 mins. to walk 4.28 miles...I think that over 17 mm, which isn't too bad considering today was my first outdoor walk.

Hey everyone!
Sorry I have been MIA....My life is CRAZY! Good, but CRAZY!

Just wanted to WISH everyone doing the Minnie :wizard: :wizard:.

Still running/biking/swimming. Got back from Jordan last week...It was wonderful! I need to post pix.

Christa -- Welcome Back! We have missed you! :grouphug: So glad Jordan was wonderful! :sunny:

What exciting news for Bree! Okay, just to show you how weird my DH is, here is the exchange we just had:
Me: Oh, this is sooo cool! Honey, do you remember Bree? We met her on the bus over to Ft Wilderness.
Him: Yes.
Me: She is pregnant!
Him: I have an alibi.
Me: WHAT does that mean?
Him: On the bus. Other WISHers. You were there. It wasn't me. :teeth:
Me: Oh, very funny. You are so cute. Such a comedian!
Him: No, really, that is great!

So, I'm married to a comedian. :rotfl2: Most of you think he's kind of quiet and reserved. :confused3 Actually, he has made me laugh at least once nearly every day since I met him 23.5 years ago.

Which reminds me -- Lily, I forgot to wish you and DH a happy anniversary. He must be a really special guy to deserve you!

Dave -- I think your friend lives across the road from a vey well-known local restaurant called "Veltri's". Is that right?

Hi there - just a quickie in case I don't get in before you all leave for the Minnie, have fun, cuddle Eyeore and Tigger for me (if I don't finally get that photo in 2008, I'm doing a detour in Epcot to find them).

And in other notes:
Dave, Cam, Nancy, anyone else needing a holiday, It's the Auckland half/full marathons on October 29th. Umm, there's no characters but you get to run over a bridge you normally can't walk over, you get to run past a volcano or two, I usually know a man who can get you in the beer tent (always nice at 8am) and if you're really lucky like I was in 2004 you'll finish 5 seconds before the marathon winner who will then hurl 2 feet away from your shoes!!!

Christa: Congratulate Bree for me - and tell her not to drink that sweet tea stuff you like down there, this baby needs teeth and I'm sure that just dissolves them in utero!!

Cam: If ever I heard an excuse to go shoe shopping that's it! Hmm, maybe that could be my inspiration for losing a few pounds, new shoes.....

That's it, tonight I jog for 20 minutes, then race 5k with the running club. It's gonna hurt! Helen

Christa, welcome back! Can't wait to see the Jordan pics!

Congrats to Bree!

We did 35min/4miles/Level10 on the elliptical yesterday and one hour with the weights: LAT, lower back, & arms. Abs and stretch we do every day.
Today it will be 30 minutes on the treadmill, 45 minutes weights (legs), and 45 minutes of Badminton.

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

I took a rest day yesterday. I've been alternating my rest days and running days to give my legs lots of time to recover. I did run 0.5 miles with my princesses princess: princess:, and then did some stretching, strengthening, and icing afterwards.
Dave -- I think your friend lives across the road from a vey well-known local restaurant called "Veltri's". Is that right?
Cam- ::yes:: You got it. Wow, Veltri's that was the place to go when I was a kid. Everyone would take their prom dates, etc. to Veltri's. Alas, I never actually went to the restaurant. Supposed to have a great view though.

:welcome: Back Christa!!! Can't wait to hear about your trip to Jordan and see some pictures.

Helen- I'd really love to go to New Zealand sometime. Just a dream right now though. Hope your run went well.

I did 3 miles yesterday in the rain. Today is 30 mins of cross - can't decided between my 2 Leslie Sansone DVDs: reg. walking, or walk/jog. Then tomorrow I am scheduled to do 2 miles & strength before I fly to FL for the Minnie!

I have a bazillion things to do between now & 5pm tomorrow night - so I will check in with you all after the race! ::MinnieMo

It has gotten so crazy around here that I have been tapering right on down to zero. I got in my 2 miles Monday but nothing since then & prob nothing before I leave. My rational is that I didn't exercisethe week before the 1/2 either because we were already in WDW.

Christa-good to see you back again. Congrats to Bree :cloud9: When is she due?

Cam-you really do have a great guy & sounds like you guys have a wonderful relationship. See you in a couple of days!

Lynnda-Lake swimming, yuck! There are alot of tri's around here in lakes, I haven't gotten over the yucky water thing yet.

It's another day of trying to get better organized, taking care of kids' commitments & trying to find the perfect sandal. I cannot find 1 single pair of sandals that I can wear for an entire day. Now I'm not talking to wear to WDW or anything, just around town. Everything is either not comfortable or rubs on my feet somewhere. It's getting very frustrating! My feet get to hot to wear sneakers all summer.

Hi Everyone,

Not a terribly long time to post here but wanted to drop by and wish everyone that is doing the Minnie run - Good Luck!

Last night, I did 4 miles on the treadmill - at a 5.4 pace the whole time (11.11 min/mile). I will probably rest the remaining of the week.....I did something to my foot and don't know when or how :confused3

Have a great day everyone!

Jodi

Good morning everyone!! :sunny: Why is it the week of an event, you always suffer from an injury?? I did 3 miles on Monday and I had terrible shin splints, it felt like my whole leg was bruised. I have not had shin splints in almost a year! I iced my leg Monday night and it was still really sore after icing and all of yesterday. It doesn't hurt today, so I'm doing 3 miles tonight and 2 tomorrow and then I'm done. The whole thing is just bizarre!!!

Christa--Welcome back!!!! :cheer2: Tell us all about Jordan and pictures please. Can I ask why you decided to go to Jordan? I'd love to go to the Holy Land someday, I think it would be so neat to see where Jesus lived, but I doubt that will ever happen. Tell Bree congrats for me!

Dave and Cam--"it's a small world after all, it's a small, small world" Stephen has family in Pittsburgh too, in the Butler/Cranberry area. His grandparents live there and we go up 2-3 times a year (I wish my in-laws lived there too.... :rolleyes1 ). Stephen also graduated from Geneva College in '98 in Beaver Falls. Even though I didn't grow up there, I still have cravings for Permani Brothers.

Dave--I don't follow college football, so I can't comment on any of the draft picks, but I have to question why in the world their first 3 picks (if I am remembering correctly) were a wide receiver, a safety, and a wide receiver. Okay, Ward is 30, he doesn't have that many seasons left in him ( :sad2: ) and Randle El is gone, so we need to rebuild that position for the future, but what about a power running back? I like Willie Parker, but he doesn't have the bulk or the power to run up the middle and quite frankly Duce was a waste and a disappointment. Hopefully he'll finally be healthy this year, we need him!!!

Who said shoe shopping??? I  shoes and I   shopping for them!!!

Lily--Happy anniversary!! I love to hear about people being married (and still being in love) for a long time!! :lovestruc I've had some pretty good role models, my grandparents were married 50 years when my grandma died and my parents are celebrating 40 years in October.

:wizard: to everyone doing the Minnie. I'll take pictures of the Pig and post them after Sunday.

Talk to you all later!!

Lynnda - Forgot your dh in my last post. WHat a great guy!

Cam - I think our dh's are wayyy too much alike! (Quitet to outsiders, but very fun and funny at home!)

Christa - Welcome back! Give Bree big congrats fom me!!

Lily - Belated Happy Anniversary!

Helen - Next time you're in WDW. Crystal Palace! You will fnd your beloved friends!

Was this supposecd to be a thread about training. I think I'll ignore that for now, as the couch sucked us both in last night. Lack of sleep for 2 days makes for a lazy me. :rolleyes1

Thanks everyone for the welcomes. I have to admit you guys helped me through my 5 miler today! I thought about you when I wanted to stop and walk. Neg splits (it was an out and back!)...9:17 MPM out and 8:27 MPM back! :thumbsup2 Thanks for the help....
I have to get DH to download the pics onto the computer then I will post them.....
I have to say I am so excited about you gals who are doing Minnie, but I WISH I was doing it too.
I got to go to work now. :furious:
Happy training....I will try to read all the post I have missed b/4 I post again.
Christa

Christa - Welcome Back!!! Please post pixs if you can :sunny:

Bree - Contrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night I didn't walk because it was finally nice outside so I worked in my gardens. I think I'll call that crosstraining :teeth:

Back on the dreadmill tonight though as the :umbrella: are needed again today.

:cheer2: GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF OUR MINNIE MARATHONERS :cheer2:

Good morning all. :sunny:

Nothing to report, as it was a rest day.

Monte - Yeah! on taking it outside! I really need to do more of that.

Christa - Yippee! :Pinkbounc Your back! And Bree! Congratulations! How exciting! :yay:

Cam - OMG that Howard is a pip! :lmao: He must be fun to live with! Don't worry about sending me that file. When you get to it is fine. As much as I am looking forward to it, I know you're kinda busy right now. :teeth:

Viking - I'm tired just reading your post! Wow! :thumbsup2

:wizard: :wizard: Best of luck to everyone doing the Minnie! :wizard: :wizard:

Dave - Thank you for asking about the smoking. Thankfully I am still smoke free, going on almost a month now!! I hope you shins start feeling better, I know how much that bites.

Cam - Sounds like the kinds of conversations I have with my DH all the time, but unlike your husband mine is like that with EVERYONE.

Lynnda - I have not swam in a lake since I was a child, but let me tell you as soon as I saw your post the memories came back VERY VIVIDLY!! I always hated the smell, the feel, and "O" the taste when it ran into your mouth. YUCK!

Best of Luck to all of you who are running the Minnie this weekend. I am SO jealous. I wish I had known about it in time!!

Well, Yesterday I went to the gym and lifted weights. I did arms, legs, and abs, then 20 minutes cross train reverse on the elliptical. Then this morning I got up and ran 3 miles while pushing the baby and Michael rode his bike. He's getting so good at it too. :cheer2: He pretty much kept pace with me the entire time. I am so proud of my little man. Tomorrow is another day at the Gym. I love my gym days because not only do I get to lift weights too, but I get to hang out in the jacuzzi and steam room when I am done!! :woohoo:

Hello Again Everyone:

Whew, I just had to give a big talk in front of my department for "Grand Rounds". Which is a fancy way of saying seminar in a clinical department. It was an hour long talk about the research I do, and now that it's over I don't feel like doing anything else. I thought I would post here until my next meeting at noon.

Oh I forgot to report that I signed up for my 1st 10K yesterday. It is the Lilac Festival 10K on Sunday, May 21st, and the course goes right in front of my house. It is the 1st 10K I've run in 10 years. Whoo hooo, I'm so excited!!!

Christa- I just wanted to let you know that we organized custom WISH team socks while you were gone. I sent you a PM about it too just in case you don't see this message because you are catching up on everything. You can check out this thread to see if you are interested at all. We have about 20 pairs not spoken for right now.

Great job on your 5 miler. Wow, you picked up some speed while you were gone 9:17 and 8:27 mpm paces? Whew... you're :smokin:

Krista- Cool, I thought you had some sort of Pittsburgh connection. Because you are a Pittsburgher at heart, I got lunch for you. I love, LOVE Primanti Bros. Capicola and cheese for me please.
primantibrossandwich.jpg

Did you ever see this article in National Geographic about Primanti Brother's? It's pretty good.

While I also think the Steelers are going to need some receiver help this year to replace Plaxico Burress and Randel El leaving the past two years, I totally agree with you that they needed someone to replace Bettis retiring. I have not been impressed with Duce either since he arrived. I thought he was going to be a good addition, but so far he has been hurt the whole time. They did draft a power RB in the 7th round, Cedric Holmes from Virginia Tech, but I don't think I'm going to hold my breath for him.

Dana- Good for you on the smoking!!! A whole month has gone by already, wow that was fast. That is awesome. Great job!!! :thumbsup2 Good job on your gym training too. I think I need to do some of that myself. I really need to build up my core. Hey, when are you going to post more about Michael's surprise 5th b-day celebration? I loved reading the first couple reports of that trip.

:cool1: GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE RUNNING THE MINNIE, FLYING PIG, AND OTHER RACES THIS WEEKEND!!!! :cool1:
