I'm not sure how I feel about people running without qualifying, running for a charity is a great thing and letting the soldiers who participated in the Iraq Boston marathon run it when they get home is pretty cool, but by letting "normal" runners run the Boston, doesn't it bring the prestige down a little bit? I don't want to start a debate, just thinking out loud. But how disappointed your husband must have been!! By the way, are Stephen and I the only dorks who Tivo'd the Boston marathon on the OLN network and watched it last night??

Jen Go and read ScoJo's race report. You'll see how fun 5K's are and that all sizes, shapes, and ages will be there! You'll do great!!

I'm a little passionate about the issue since my husband's female coworker just died from it leaving small children without a mom or a dad. It is a horrible situation.I know it's hard, but I believe in you and your love for your family.
I read that last night. It was the editor-in-chief saying he got an invitation/exemption to run Boston and he had mixed feelings about it, but he was training to complete the race at his qualifying time.Boston - There was an article in the last Runner's World about someone that was given an exemption into the race and had mixed feelings about it. I don't remember if it was the editor or Bingham or who exactly now. I'll have to check when I get home.
Hey Kevin: I think you can do it too. I also agree with wtpclc and think that going Goofy might be a bit too much. As I'm sure you know, you have to prioritize your time and your degree and work would probably come first. But you also need time for you, and running could be just the thing you need for stress relief, etc. to help you manage the load of 19 credits in the fall plus working full time. I would certainly try it. You've already signed up haven't you? So you might as well keep training, and then if you find it's too much for you you could decide to do only the full or 1/2.with this load, is marathon training going to send me over the edge? I've worked it out on paper... and it does seem doable (running 4 days/week plus a crosstraining day).

Lay on your back with your knees bent like you are gonna do a sit up. Rest your right ankle on your left knee, grab the back of your left leg and pull it towards your chest until you feel the stretch. Then switch sides. Might be worth a try for anyone having hip pain. HTH
