Wizard wands

hi there, I understand how the interactive wands work but we've never been so our question is......
We are doing one day at Universal and we'd like plan another trip where we have more days there. If we were to get a wand, will it work the same if we take it a year later? Does it run on batteries?? Or is it best to wait and nget it next trip as I'm uncertain how much time we will be spending in Harry's portion to fully utilize it given we're trying to do the park in one day.

Thoughts please on those with wand experience. Thanks much! Also, we are not planning on buying the express pass as they are so expensive, nor are we doing park to park.

I'm not sure about battery life but at about $50 a pop I would hope you could use it a year later. My niece and nephew got them at our trip at Thanksgiving last year. My niece spent a lot of time using it since she didn't want to go on most of the rides. She had just turned 10 and did get frustrated easily. Plus unless you go super early you end up waiting behind other kids so you see what the trick is before you get to do it yourself. My nephew was not impressed at all and maybe tried his twice. We asked the clerk at checkout for tips since we bought at different times and my niece was having issues. He said you look for the sensor and try to keep the wand perpendicular instead of waving it around like they do in the movie. I would recommend that on your one day trip focus on the rides and shops first. As you go around HP areas you will see all the kids at the windows or other areas doing the tricks. The wands come with a map of the spots for the tricks. They can see how many kids pack around and how long they would have to wait in line while watching other kids do the same thing over and over. Some kids get really frustrated and it's not fun for them. Doing all the tricks can take awhile away from other things. They do also sell wands that don't have sensors or you could check ebay for deals. I don't have kids but I would offer $50 for a wand or $50 for some other upgrade or experience and see what they want.

Wow, I just checked ebay and people are trying to sell the Ollivander's bag for $10 empty. If you look on ebay and want the interactive ones be careful since not all wands from Universal have the sensor. They have some pretty inexpensive ones that aren't from Universal and don't have sensors.

We bought two last October (for the kids) and when we got there in March only one worked. A TM looked at it and said it was because the end was cracked so they directed us back to Olivander's for wand repair. Within 5 minutes we were walking out with a working wand, no questions asked. Not sure what they did, all they would say was magical repair. The first TM told us they would fix any problems with wands. Someone mentioned that in October when we thought we lost DD's wand, but we never tried at that time.

Some of the lines can get long and some of the spots are pretty tricky, but both my 5 yo and 8 yo love doing it.

Our last trip back our wand wasn't working, we popped into Ollivanders and it was replaced for free (or magic). They are a lot of fun!

We've had ours for a couple of years now and they still work. As other have responded, if it stops working or breaks they will take care of it at ollivanders.

It will work just fine. If not, then it back to ollivanders and they will fix it.

Exactly, they "fixed" ours once. Pretty sure it was a new wand.
