Never very popular, but not uncommon. I am 51, it was probably at peak popularity 55-60 years ago.

Uncommon. I have only met 2 other people in my 63 years with the same name. I am aware of two prominent people with the same name. And I am aware of two TV shows with a character with the same name, both from the 1950's.

No but my last name is a common first name.

Not common then and much less-so now. I've rarely ever run into anyone with the same name and never anyone younger than me.
