With Pirates Down, Not Sure Whether To Go

My family is supposed to be going to WDW over spring break, but with Pirates down for rehab I am seriously considering not going. It is one of my familys favorite rides (especially for me because I hate drops and coasters). I know there is much more do do, but it will be heartbreaking walking past it without being able to ride.

Not sure what to do. Anyone else ready to cancel they're trip until the rehab is done or will you suck it up and go anyway.

Obviously only you can answer this question for yourself but for me, there isn't a ride I could think of that would cause me to cancel my trip if it was down. I HATE that they closed Mr. Toad because I loved that goofy little ride but it hasn't ruined my trips. I am sad when I see Pooh there now but again, nothing is ruined. WDW is so much more than one ride, or even the rides at all really. I say go and have a great time.

When is spring break? The latest info I received from a WDW CM who works in the maintenance shops is that the ride is closing from early March until April 2 (general refurb). It will be open in April and closing again in early May for the new additions. The Tell No Tales message board is keeping updated with new information as it becomes available.

I definitely wouldn't cancel a vacation because one attraction is down, even if it is a family favorite. There's so much more to do there. We'll be there in May with some friends, so we won't be able to ride it either.

We went to DL last March, while things were still getting spruced up/rehabbed for the 50th celebration. Several of our favorites were closed, including Space Mtn, Splash Mtn, Jungle Cruise, Enchanted Tiki Room, and more. While it was disappointing not to be able to ride them, we managed to have a very good time anyway! I wouldn't let Pirates being closed make me change my trip; I'd probably just do Haunted Mansion a few extra times instead...

What's worse is, when it reopens they'll have some audio-animatronics of Hollywood actors tossed in Walt's masterpiece.

I love POTC too, but it won't cause me to cancel my trip, even though I'm TICKED OFF that they're rehabing it during one of the busiest times of the year.

This will be our first trip with a major ride down, and all I have to say, is EE had BETTER be running some major soft openings while I'm there.

we just got back and buzz was down and test track was down..two of my sons favorite rides as ours..but that sure didnt keep us from going and enjoying the rest of the magic there...your going to the happiest place on earth..one attraction being down shouldnt ruin your whole trip..

From what I've read on a few sites yesterday and today, Everest is expected to be open regular park hours from now on, with only occasional closings (as can be expected from any ride, really).

Are you serious?!?! How could one attraction possibly keep you from going to WDW? I might be disappointed, but it would never cross my mind to stay home and miss a great vacation. I admit Pirates is definitely a classic, but there are many other attractions I enjoy just as much, if not more. Go and have fun and I bet you won't miss it as much as you think!!

I have to agree with the others. I thought we would really miss Buzz and Test Track but we managed to have a great time anyway. And Buzz is an absolute favorite for us...we ride it 4 or five times each time. But we survived!THere's just so much to do and just the general atmosphere...I could never stay away just because one ride was closed.

My heart broke when I read the rehab schedule! We are taking Disney virgins (perhaps I should have used another word)...uh, Disney newbies as our guests in March and POTC is our very favorite attraction. Many of you may remember us...we are the most irritating people you've ever ridden with on POTC. We have to sing the song and of course, recite the dialog right along with the pirates...."We wants the redhead, we wants the redhead"..... I even bought a "Dead Men Tell no Tales" t-shirt for the trip! Oh, my...now how are we going to embarrass the daylights out of them? (Insert heavy sigh) We will, however, still go,of course, but I may have to place flowers below the parrot as we walk by.

from allearsnet Pirates of the Caribbean - will close the attraction in March to update the attraction to include characaters from the Movie Pirates of the Caribbean. Reopens July 7th. The attraction will feature the addition of two of Hollywood’s most infamous buccaneers, Captain Jack Sparrow and his nemesis Captain Barbossa. Joining the wildest crew that ever sacked the Spanish Main, Captain Jack and Barbossa add an exciting new twist to the attraction’s original storyline as they race to be the first to claim a cache of plundered treasure. The rival swashbucklers will be seen interacting with some of the more familiar Audio-Animatronics buccaneers found inside the ride-thru adventure. Also making a guest appearance is the ghostly Davy Jones from the second movie in the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. But new characters are only the beginning. New special effects will also be added to enhance the “Pirates of the Caribbean” theme park experience.

I wouldn't cancel for 1 attraction. My only complaint is that with POC being one of the most popular attractions in the MK lines in the other attractions will be longer. In some cases 10 minutes longer, especially during a peak time such as Spring Break.

There is absolutely no way I would cancel an entire trip b/c of one attraction. There are plenty of other rides just go and have a good time

I'm a HUGE fan of TPOC, but I don't think I'd cancel my trip. If it was POC and the HM, oh heck yeah I would then!

Also, I'm ENRAGED they're destroying this ride by adding Jack Sparrow in at the end. That ride has such a classic element to it. It's like adding Eddy Murphy to the Haunted Mansion next to Madame Leota because "it was in the movie." I think this is a very very bad decision and I'm REALLY upset I won't be able to get to Disney again to say goodbye to POC as I grew up knowing it.

On the other hand, at least I know they won't touch the dog with the keys in his mouth.

Well, I can understand postponing a few months if that is an optoin for you, but I certainly wouldn't cancel. We are going the first week of April and while I am disappointed, we are still going. I know exactly what you mean about having to walk past that attraction and not being able to ride, though. My youngest DD doesn't like the 'big' rides in that area and while DH and the older girls go on BTMRR and SM, I usually take her to ride pirates. Oh, well, I guess we'll have to find other diversions this time.

No offense intended, but that's a pretty dumb reason to cancel your trip. Man, if it would be that upsetting to you, I can only wonder what real tragedy is like.

Don't cancel! I know it's hard to be there and not be able to ride your fave ride. I'm not a fan of drops and coasters either, but there're so many other things to do! (That's not to say that I wouldn't pitch a fit if I were there and the HM was down. . . ) It's hard to remember sometimes that the parks and rides will continue to exist, albeit maybe not in the form we would prefer (I want Mr. Toad back!), for our next visits. I like to claim that if I don't ride the HM at least five times during a visit, the world will end. The world won't end. (My friends do kind of get sick of my Mansion-mania, though! )
