Why don't the resorts use plastic mattress covers on all the beds? There's another news segment on about bed bugs in hotel mattresses and I'm starting to itch!

TC:cool:

Because bedbugs don't just live in the mattress- if that were true all you would need to do to end an infestation would be to get a new mattress. They live in all the little cracks and crevices in a room, and come out at night to feed. A plastic mattress cover would only remove one hiding spot.

.. If you're referring to the show on ABC this evening.. I was grossed out too (and not entirely relieved by the guy who said, "if it's dry, it's dead and poses no threat") -- but i did have to chuckle at the thought that ABC = disney = resorts and all the hotels they have. Of course they didn't inspect any of their own rooms. lol ..and i understand that, but still seems a little hypocritical, don't ya think?

just playing devil's advocate ;)

There was an update on the ABC show Primetime Live about bed bugs and other icky things commonly found in hotels. 8 years ago they did an investigation of several hotels-- swabbed many surfaces and examined the rooms under blacklight. They pretty much told ya just how dirty a hotel room is.. it's really just numbers, they can't and don't go in after each person checks out and completely bleach and scrub the place. Apparently most rooms really get a through cleaning about 4 times a year.

Anyway.. this was just an update to say yeah, rooms are still icky. They gave a little advice about checking your bed before you get into it, sandwhiching your bedspread between sheets and not letting it touch your body, etc.

I know there have been other threads on the boards about this before, probably over on the resort thread.

.. and i just thought I would share, I like the OP have been itching since I saw it! :teeth:
