Looking at end of August and trying to decide if it’s worth it right now. I keep seeing closures and refurbs and wondering if it might be better to wait till after the new year or next summer. I was so mad when we hit AK two years ago. It wasn’t even worth the ticket price. I don’t know if I want to do that again. So whats closing/closed in MK and HS? If you did one park which would it be based on all that?

AK has more closed now than it did 2 years ago. Like @gottalovepluto I can't think of what was closed 2 years ago so it wasn't a huge hit to our trip.

As others have shared, Disney is always doing refurbishments and closures happen 365 days a year. Only you know if it is 'worth it' to you knowing it is impossible to visit Disney without things closed for refurbishment.

If you're not able to visit often and are waiting for things that are closed during your trip, you may wish to delay but know that whenever you delay to, other things will be closed.

Refurbishments keep Disney safe and keep us coming back to see what's new since our last visit.

If Disney didn’t close some attractions for refurbishment, I bet Walt Disney would be rolling in his grave after witnessing the lack of innovation or upgrades.

What was closed at AK in 2023? You can do a search of refurbishments/construction at Disney on a different site and when I searched for AK in the years 2022, 20223, 2024 there were no construction/refurbishment projects (outside of the yearly closure of Kali River Rapids) at AK during any of those years.

I don't think I've been at Disney any time during the last 25 years (10 trips) that there wasn't refurbishments going on during our visits. And some of those were major and actually spanned 2 trips (MK New Fantasyland, EP Future World). We still had great trips. If there's a specific ride that you don't want to miss on this trip and you can see it's going to be closed while you're there, then go ahead and change your dates. If you're trying to pick a time where there will be no ride refurbishments or construction going on, it's not going to happen.

Off the top of my head.

MK - Liberty Bell and TS Island closed totally for new Cars Land so construction will be in that area. Big Thunder Mountain is closed for refurb not sure when that is going be opened back up. The train will not stop at the FrontierLand station but will be running. Astro Orbitor closed for refurb. I think I read somewhere that Buzz Lightyear was going to be refurbished but not sure about that.

Epcot - TT closed for refurb but should be open when you go. Can't think of anything else closed there or any construction walls.

HS - RNRC will be closed to add the Muppet theme at some point, don't know when. Muppet courtyard totally closed. Villians show replaced the Lightening McQueen thing and the Little Mermaid show is now open. Can't think of anything else there.

AK - big one. Dino Land closed, Dinosaur still open and the restaurant is still open (I think). Tough to be a Bug closed to retheme to something I can't remember off the top of my head. Some of the trail around Tree of Life is closed because of that. As far as I know all the animal trails, the train, the safari, EE, the 3 shows, all of Avatar open, Kali River open in the hot months.

Glad to hear the MK train will still be running! We're going in December. Tough to be a Bug is turning into a Zootopia show which I hope is open when we go. Some in our group will probably skip AK this trip.

It seems every time we have been to Disney in the past, something was always under construction, being redone or refurbished. Part of this is economics as well as availability of construction crews. Disney likely tries to manage the expenditures so they are spread out over a number of years in addition to the fact there are only a finite number of workers/construction companies to do this type of work. I agree with others, waiting to go until there isn't any work going on isn't realistic.

The train will be running, but it won't be running a loop like it does now. It will only run between Fantasyland and Main Street and will just go back and forth between those 2 stations.

After seeing others take a little more time and research out AK refurbs/closures of a couple years ago I think we can safely conclude there were not. It appears you mixed up refurbs with temporarily closed/down rides? These are unplanned closures in the minute due to operational issues when rides are supposed to operate but cannot and Disney works to get them back up asap. Those cannot be predicted AT ALL and bad days taking down multiple headliners at the same time have happened to every park.

Going next month. We're skipping MK & AK for Epic Universe/US/IA -never been. I will say we would be going to MK if Disney's Starlight Parade was available. Decided on DHS after hours which is still available the end of August too. Although Test Track is in refurb, still going to Epcot. If you haven't done MNSSHP, that's a fun option for MK.
