With all of the talk about coupons...

Maybe 5 miles to the Randall's, but their prices are astronomically higher than HEBs, so I'd still have to go to HEB after I got all the on sale/triple coupon deals... and that would only be the minority of my purchases... not worth the 15 bucks or whatever.

I don't know of any major grocery store chains here in the deep south that double. Maybe a few scattered independent? I know the last time I saw double coupons was around 20 years ago and then they all stopped. It's interesting reading these threads. Kroger here does not have the same policies as say a Kroger in Texas or the Midwest. It is certainly regional. If someone does know where they double in the deep south please advise.

26.3 miles north is the SuperWalmart that we shop at.

18 miles west is a private owned grocery store. Nice place, great selection, don't know what the coupon policy is but to shop there, it would be $100 more. There is the smallest of Walmarts next door, very small, and it will be closed down when the SuperWalmart is finally built which will be a huge traffic and distance inconvenience to use.

27 miles east is another SuperWalmart. Occasionally we go here.

25 miles south, this is the "big city". This is where the grocery stores are and they double coupon. Over the course of my lifetime this town has changed from a nice little country town to jam packed full of the real big city snobby rich folks moving up here. It take half an hour to drive 5 miles down the road to get out, then 20 minutes to drive the rest of the 20 miles home. Doing grocery shopping again would add $100 onto what we normally spend at Walmart.

Grocery shopping is a 2-3 hour job no matter if we are going for a gallon of milk, a normal $200 order, or trying to save on coupons. Doing that more than once a week so you can go to different towns would drive me up a wall.
