Before I forget...the person who said I should quit smoking, my response is "yeah, right...that's just what I'm gonna do right now". But you're right...I really do need to quit.

We're starting to see some much heavier winds right now. It's really whipping up. I'm having a grand time watching the back peddling that's going on with the local newscasts. It really looks as though we'll get the lesser end of this after a week of "doom and gloom". The storm track has it much further south than first thought.

Now they are talking about Ivan (the next hurricane on the horizon). So help me, we can't get hit with a third hurricane!

I'm really happy that we still have power, but I know that will likely change.

I'll try and check in as I can.

...for keeping us all informed. You are right about reporters, and it is even more difficult when you are far away to get a feel for what is actually happening. The coverage of Charley outside of Florida was slim at best, and my grandparents were in the middle of it over in Fort Myers. It was impossible to get a good idea from media reports what the situation was really like on the ground. I went down there the next week to stay with them for a few days and thankfully they were fine. What was odd was the amount of damage and destruction just up the road from them. Those of us living outside of the state get such a broad picture from the media, that we really appreciate your first hand accounts.

Stay safe, for Pete's sake (sorry, couldn't resist - you should have seen all the "Sorry Charley" signs in Fort Myers after that hurricane!), enjoy what's left of your ice cream, and check in when you can.

Pete, please be sure to keep the candles far from any fabric, etc. I've been in a situation like yours where I almost burnt down the house. If you want us to send you anything post a mailing address. I don't know how fast your stores will get restocked.
