Wishing I was at the Jersey Shore

Me, too.........let's all run away !!! (Even if it's just the Jersey people)

Yea!! A thread for me.

I'm a new NJ'ian. This will be my first real summer living in Jersey and I'm about 20 minutes from the shore.

Where do I go??

Inform me on the beaches with kids.

Did I mention How much I love it here.

Point Pleasant is a good beach for kids, the have kiddie rides on the boardwalk and an aqaurium too

is great like Antnee said. LBI is also very family friendly.

Thanks Guys,

Point pleasant is closest to me. I got so confused once talking to someone who mentioned the parking fee, then a fee when you get onto the beach.

Coming from NY we had an annual parking pass and that included admission to the beach.

Count me in. I love going to the shore. I'll be in Cape May for 8 days in July. Can't wait.

DH grew up going to Point Pleasant Beach. But now I live in Ocean City, NJ. Love it. The only two sunny days were this week and I got a bit burned. I'd like living here a bit more if we had sun.

I know what you mean tiggeroo. More rain today and tomorrow.

I work at Point Pleasant Beach. If you have kids this is the place to go. There are the rides, the games, the funhouse and the aquarium. There is free parking on the streets but it is scarce because there is no employee parking so we have to find parking on the free streets. We are also not allowed to park in the lots. There is a beach fee because it is basically a private beach. The beach is very well maintained. Depending on how young your children are, they might not have to pay.

Here's the website for the Point boardwalk.

I wish I was working today cause it seems whenever I'm waitressing, it's raining.:(

Thanks Traci-Lyn

My kids are 4 and 2, so I think I'd prefer to keep them on the beach and away from the boardwalk.

Would that still be a good beach for me?

I see by your signature you are going to AKL. We just got back and it was great. You'll love it.

My best friend's uncle ownes Jenk's!

I LOOOOVE the Tiki bar!

If it ever stops raining, I'll be heading there!

lizzie64, I think I remember reading your trip reports. They were very enjoyable. I was actually thinking of upgrading to concierge for a couple of days while I am alone there.

Yes, the Point Beach is great. Especially during the week. We get on the beach for free but we would never venture there on the weekends. It's nice for kids because they have beach shows but I forget what day (funny because we just had to take a test at the restaurant and that was one of the questions). I think the beach by the inlet is a little quieter but we stay by the Pavilion because that's where we work. Also, I don't know if your children enjoy fireworks, but every Thursday night starting the 26th, we have fireworks. They are really quite nice.

Any other questions, I'll be glad to answer them.

Thanks so much Traci-Lyn

Where is the best place to park? Where do I pay for parking?? and where do you pay to get on the beach??

Thanks.

If you could swing concierge level, even for just a day, I would definitely do it on a Monday or Friday night and do the Sunrise Safari. It is awesome.

Tony, your website for LBI had me in tears. I listened to the ocean and the seabirds. I looked at the Beach Haven then and now website. I cried seeing those old pictures. How blessed I was to have lived in such a quaint and beautiful town. I thought that the whole worll was like LBI... gosh, I miss that place.
My mom and dad were married at that Epscipal (Holy Innocents) church. It now houses the museum.
I just have to take Hunter up there to see it all.
Thanks for the link. It was a good cry.

Where is the best place to park?

It really depends on what day of the week you are going and what time you plan on being there. I can tell you that when I work mornings and have to be in at 10, I have no problem finding close parking. On the weekends, you might park 2 to 3 blocks out, but it's free. The best place to park is to go down Arnold Avenue to Ocean Ave and make a left. Two blocks down, all of the streets are free. I would just go up and down those streets.

Where do I pay for parking?

You can either pay for parking in the municipal lot, which is 25 cents for 15 minutes, I think or you can park in a private lot. Jenkinsons runs several lots and I don't believe that their pricing is outrageous. On the weekdays I believe the fee is around $7 for all day parking. Some of the other lots are ridiculous and are not run by Jenks.

and where do you pay to get on the beach??

There are many beach badge checkers at all the ramps to the beach. You pay there and they give you a plastic bracelet to put around your wrist.

Hope this helps. BTW, the amusement park has many rides for young children. The boardwalk was set up with families in mind.

Ugh....I'm at the Jersey Shore and would rather be somewhere else.....then again, I live here so I always want to be somewhere else. lol :jester:
