Are the lights still dimmed and music piped in during Wishes?

I know it has been asked before and I never paid much attention to the threads, but now we have an ADR in Nov at CG. I did an "advanced search" but couldn't find any concrete info, just a thread where it was never quite answered...I searched the words "wishes music."

Thanks!

We last dined there a few weeks ago but weren't there for Wishes....actually there may not even have been Wishes that night as I think it was a Grad night. But in January Wishes was just beginning as we left. The lights were not dimmed. I can't remember if the music was played. I'm pretty sure the music is still piped outside though.

But no matter what experiences we report, it could be different for you. ;) Have a great dinner. We love CG.

Thanks DisneyJen...have you dined there recently? We ate there in 2002 and they did it, but that was a looong time ago!

BCV-Thanks...and I know things could change, but I am wondering of they have a standard...if they do it or not. I wouldn't think they would vary.

As of Fall of 2004 they no longer dim the lights and pipe in the music. We were there Nov. 11, 2004 and that was when we first noticed they do not do that anymore. On a more recent date, we were there April 29, 2006 and they still do not pipe in the music or dim the lights.

You can still go outside on the observation deck area and see Wishes from there, but nothing special happens inside the restaurant anymore during Wishes.

I don't have the exact date when they changed this, but I believe it was at the same time that they moved the check in desk down to the second floor of the hotel for CG dining and began sending an escort in the elevator up to the restaurant with those who had reservations.

It surely has helped to reduce the 'circus' atmosphere that used to be in the lounge area of CG just before Wishes. It has also helped with the turnover of tables since you don't have people staying an extra length of time until after the fireworks are over.

Boy, I agree with you, willidc! :thumbsup2 Your entire post explains the situation well I think.

wildernesslodgelover, I didn't mean to imply that it would change day to day. I just think that the CG has been trying to reduce the circus atmosphere to which wiilidc refers. Instead the emphasis can be on the cuisine, service and yes view all of which we enjoy. I knew they were tinkering with it but we usually go early and except in the winter are gone before Wishes so I didn't know if there were seasonal variations of any sort.

We were there October 5th, 2004 and we checked in downstairs, etc.
But the lights were dimmed and the music played.... my daughter was picked that night to help Tinkerbell do that! :)

I'm disappointed to hear of the change.... guess we'll see what it's like in a few weeks.

Thanks guys! Not really the answer I was hoping for, but that's ok. I totally "get" the reason for the change. Is there plenty of room on the observation deck, or does that get crowded?

marlynn-When we dined there in '02 my DD was also picked to do that! She got a certificate and everything. She was so young at the time (just turned 3) that she doesn't really remember it, so I was hoping maybe she could get another chance. I guess that doesn't happen anymore. :sad2:

Thanks for the replies! :thumbsup2

There are at least two decks to see Wishes from. Most people head down the one to the right as you face the MK from inside the restaurant. But there is another one that you can access from back near the restrooms.

There is another one over near the wine room but I don't know if it is open or has a good view. :confused3 You could ask your server for advice.

It really is more pleasant there now for dining. :thumbsup2

Thanks BCV! I will take your word for it. I appreciate the tip about the "less obvious" deck.

I am one of those people who cry during Wishes, and this dinner will be on the final night of our 8 night trip, so I will be EXTRA emotional.

I am sorry...don't mean to beat a dead horse here...

I just looked in my 2006 Unofficial Guide to WDW and they said the lights are dimmed and music piped in INSIDE the restaurant. So, I just called the CR directly and the gal who answered the phone said yes, they still dim the lights and pipe in music. I even said, "Just on the observation deck, or inside the dining room?" She said inside the dining room. Now, to be honest with ya, I am not sure if she knew positively so I am going to call back in a little while and ask to be connected to CG.

I know, I know, I should just let it be...what happens, happens, right? I am sure it will be a wonderful experience no matter what. Just wanted to share this info.

Hey, we're all planners here aren't we? So don't feel badly.

Let us know please. :sunny:

We ate at CG in April and had an early reservation at 6 PM (small children!) for our dinner. Lucky for us, the kids slept through dinner and we had a great meal. We were told be our server when we were seated that we could return later that night with our receipt to watch Wishes from the deck or lounge if we wanted. We ended up having a pretty long meal and the kids woke just as we finished. We had ordered them a kids flatbread, but to free the table up for another party (our idea - we were in no way rushed by the server) we took the kids out to the observation deck to eat their pizza. they ended up dancing out there and having a good time, so we stayed out there to watch Wishes. They piped in the music on the deck, but didn't dim the lights outside. I think that may have been a safety measure, though.

To be honest, I don't know if they dimmed the lights indoors or played music so I guess I was OT on this one! Sorry! Watching from the deck was a great place and it is my understanding that they will time/hold a course for you so you can go out and not come back to cold food on your table. So if not indoors, the deck is still a great place to watch!

Thanks BCV...I should realize other DISers would understand. My DH is like, "Enough already! We are gonna have a great time no matter what, let's just be surprised either way!" I would not have blamed ya if you gave the the "rolls eyes" emoticon!

Sara-Thanks for the input..I actually did not know that you could come back with a receipt to see the fireworks. That is good to know. I can tell you are like me...you like to "relive" your experiences on the threads. Thats why I love the DISboards. :disrocks:
