Is Wishes viewing as great as it is told to be from California Grill ? I mean... let's not talk about food... where is wishes best spot ? Main Street or CG's balcony ?

Absolutely in front of the castle on Main St. The view from CG is nice but the fireworks against the castle are much more impressive. I don't think you can go to CG just to get to the deck anymore-you have ot eat there.

You need to be in front of the castle. From CG, the fireworks are to one side of the castle, and it just doesn't look right. If you are in CG, they don't dim the lights anymore and I couldn't hear the music above the crowd noise (we didn't step outside). When I was by the castle, it was so moving and absolutely took my breath away. The most magical moment of our trip :goodvibes .

If you can only do one, do it in front of the castle. If you can do both - then do so. There is an observation deck (as long as you are there eating) and they pipe the music in. It's lovely and different.

Do you eat on the observation deck , or do you just step out there? Can you go there for cocktails and still step out on the observation deck ? Are there seats, chairs or benches on the observation deck ? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm trying to plan an evening at Contemporary. Wanted to eat at the Chef Mickey, then have cocktails at the Grill for veiwing on the observation deck. Thanks for any help.

I don't know if you can just get into Cali Grill for cocktails...might be wrong. I can only go on what I did. We had a reservation for 9.15 - had our starter - the lovely waitress knew we wanted to see Wishes so made sure our main course wasn't put out until after the fireworks - we walked out onto the deck - there are no chairs and it isn't covered so if it is raining you're in trouble....you might just need to check about getting up to Cali Grill without a dining reservation.

I was told that you couldn't get into Cali Grill without a dinner reservation, so we made one. There were people that in the lounge area that seemed to be having an appetizer, so not sure what that was for. Didn't pay attention once we were seated.

We had ressies at CG for 9:15, were seated by 9:20 and had our food delivered to us at 9:45. Needless to say, we didn't finish eating by 10, so we left our food and headed on out to the observation deck. As others said, if you only have 1 chance to catch fireworks, do it near the castle. If you have more than 1x, ABSOLUTELY do CG. Loved it; first time I could actually see it all. I even saw a few fireworks I never even knew were in the show! :goodvibes I'd say about 30 or so of us out of a packed restaurant actually went outside, and there was still plenty of room for everyone. We just stood up against the rail, near the door. I have heard you can go to the bar area for drinks or what have you w/o a ressie, but no idea if it's true.

For pure Disney nostalgia(sp) sit in front of the Castle. If you just want to have a great view of the fireworks I would say sit over by the speedway. I have done both and the view from in front of the castle is :thumbsup2 . But over by the speedway they look like they are right over your head, also :thumbsup2

I've heard some say that they pipe the music into the restaurant and others say that they do not. Does anyone know if they do this now or not?

The music was piped into the restaurant. I found that the view was lovely, but it was an entirelydifferent perspective the the one from Main Street. I enjoyed them both. I did not like the feeling from the observation deck, so I stayed inside, but the family members who are not as jittery as I am loved the show from the deck.

Definitely Main Street. Wishes during a meal at CG is very special even though I didn't appreciate the "side view" so much. But nothing beats seeing Wishes in Magic Kingdom.

imho, of course :)

ITA. If you only can view Wishes one time, I would also suggest Main Street. It is magical.

I know from previous experience when it was crowded, that we watched the fireworks back by the train station in Mickey's Toontown Fair. That area is back close to where they launch the fireworks, so it's kind of like having your own private viewing! I've seen it at CG and Main Street, too. They're all great! By the way, I got the Mickey's Toontown Fair info from Allearsnet a couple of years ago! :thumbsup2
