WISHers turning 40!!!...Come Celebrate!!

Hey gang, add mee to the list as well! I turn 40 in May. To celebrate my college friends and I are running the Indianapolis 500 Mini Marathon (1/2). Should be fun. I was never a "runner" with them, but several of them were. Disney 1/2 was really my first and my friend will do Indy as her first, but 4 others have done marathons before. I'm amazed how many of us are hitting this landmark this year!! GO US!!
Sounds like we need to have an OVER THE HILL/40 YO B-DAY PARTY AT POP this year!!! :)

Lara - Thanks for joining us! That sounds like a great plan! Now I've got to convince DH that I need to go back. :rolleyes1

Can I join the list too? I'm a newbie WISHer and a newbie runner (I've only been running for a little over a month now), so I'm still trying to read all of the posts and figure out who is who. There's so much to read here that it gets a little overwhelming, but I'm glad to have found the WISH team - you guys are great! :thumbsup2 I can't believe there are so many of us turning 40 this year. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!

My DH & I will both turn 40 this summer. My b-day is in June and his is in July (yes - I like younger men :rotfl: ). We've decided to run the Disney full marathon in '09 to celebrate our birthdays. Since I'm new at this whole running thing, I'm a little nervous :scared1: , but I'm sure I can do it. I have lots of time to train, thank goodness.

I'm not thrilled about turning 40, but since I have no choice in the matter I'm trying to focus on how young I feel instead of how old I am. :goodvibes

Absolutely you can join us! :grouphug: Congrats to you and DH turning 40 an doing the Full! :thumbsup2 Thanks for stopping in, please come back.

I'll be 40 in August. I'm celebrating with a Disney Cruise!

Ooohhh, can I come celebrate with you? ;)

Me too! I turn 40 in three weeks.:scared1:

Congrats! It is gonna be OUR year! :thumbsup2

Wow, there are alot of us!

We will be Fit, Fabulous and 40!

1968 was a very good year...by the way, I'm 6-8-68, which I've always kind of liked! :)

Maria

I love that phrase Maria! What a cool birthday! :cool2:

I'll be 40 in May and DH will be 40 in June. I'm doing my first triathlon in July to celebrate and my 3rd Goofy in January (for time, not fun this time)

Darcey - Wow just reading that made me exhausted. :faint: Congrats to you and DH! Keep us posted on how you do in Jan.

Debra - :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Maybe we ought to mention about a get together.... Maybe at Pop?

No over the hill parties...you are just starting up the hill. The stuff before this has all been fluff. I ran my first 5K 2 weeks before I turned 40 and last year I ran the ToT on my 41st birthday. I feel better than ever. I will be 42 in October. I dreaded turning 40 because it made me feel old but being as active as I am and becoming more so every day, I feel and look better than my younger years. I certainly have way more self-esteem. For my 42nd birthday...the MDI Marathon in Maine 12 days prior.

Go 40 girls!!!! :cool1:

Lisa - That is exactly the way I feel. I feel like I am starting a "better" phase of my life. I am embracing the "40's". I have a new hobby that's gonna take me further in life. Thanks for stopping in and spreading your wisdom.

I turn 40 "again" this March. I ran my first marathon at 40. Also my first 10k and my first half marathon. 40 is not so bad considering the alternative.

40 was tough for me. On my 20th birthday, I was in the hospital facing not having a birthday so I didn't think much of it. On my 30th birthday, I was 7 months pregnant with my first child so it was a complete after thought.

Then 40 came along. 3 months after major surgery, so I completely out of shape. Not only out of shape but I had had weeks and weeks to sit around and contemplate the whole idea of turning 40. It was not pleasant.

Now that I have been here a while, I don't mind a bit. My favorite thing is when younger runners find out my age. They always do such an amazing job of acting surprised.

I hit the big 4-0, 2 days after running the Goofy this year, so I guess I am the old guy in this group! The good thing was that I was home on R&R leave from Iraq, surrounded by family and friends, and eating as much as I could at O'Hanas at the Polynesian. Nothing like a birthday at Disney to take your mind off of getting older, let alone turning 40.
I will celebrate the last weeks of my 40th year in 2009 by running the Goofy again - and like others I have seen post on this thread, I will be doing it for time this year, but I still intend to have a little fun!

I was pregnant when I turned 30 too, so it was such a non issue with me. And really, I'm not having too much trouble with this one either. Like you said, I'm glad to celebrating another birthday because the alternative isn't that great. Glad you are with us and doing so well! Maybe someday I'll get to meet you while doing the Peachtree. I am a GA Peach at heart.

Wow! What a way to celebrate 40! Doing the Goofy! :faint:

My dd and I tried to congratulate every person we saw wearing a Goofy medal. I told her that those people deserved as many congratulations as they could get. She couldn't understand why we would congratulate people we didn't know. :confused3 I explained to her how much running those people had done. Then she started spotting them faster than I could. Thanks for all you do for our country too! :thumbsup2

Must we use the word hill? I'm still having flashbacks to the overpasses. :scared1:

Looking forward to spending this very special year with all my team mates. Makes it a little less scary :grouphug:

I'm pushing mine off till November :rolleyes1

Thanks for stopping in Diane! Yes we are NOT going over the hill, we are just journeying along. ;)

I have to share something I read today. Now it was on a wrapper of a Dove chocolate that one of my precious preschool children gave me for a Valentime's present. It said, "Age is nothing but a number." Can I get an AMEN?!!! Who knew a Dove wrapper could be so insightful. :confused3 :rotfl: It is just that a number, and we are going to celebrate it in style! :cool2: I'm glad you are all here to celebrate with me! :grouphug:

AMEN, SISTER! To all of it, especially the excuse to buy a Dove candy! This year is going to be fun, and I'm going to love celebrating it with all of you who are turning 40 this year, and everyone else. We're one big happy!!

I am going to joun in the party. I will be 40 on 07/19.

So far, not a biggie...but I am hoping to finish my first 1/2 marathon ever this year, which shows that this is definately a new beginning for me.

The only birthday that has ever bothered me even slightly was 26. I found my first grey hair that day. Seems pretty insignificant now. :rotfl:

Happy 40th people!

I turn 40 on June 22nd. I think turning 39 was harder for me. Last year my birthday sucked!! I was told the day before it my biopsy was inconclusive and i would need another one to determine if it was cancer. The good news it wasnt! So my 40th should be alot better. I changed my life alot after my 39th so i am healthier physically and mentally.

Welcome to our little PARTY Laura!! :rockband: party:

Oh a little bottle of color will cover that gray. ;) 1/2 Marathon is a great way to celebrate! :cheer2: Wish I could but I am just starting my third week of C25K, so I am hoping for that 10K in May.

So sorry about last year's birthday! This one will be much better! :cheer2: Thanks for joining us Amanda! We are all gonna have a rockin' year! :thumbsup2

Wondering if it would be okay to join you? I'm not 40 in 2008 but turning 40 in June of 2009.

I'd been thinking about running a marathon for a long time. I used to work for a company that sponsored the Ironman Canada in Penticton, BC. I would see the athletes, all shapes and sizes with such wonderful stories cross the finish line and it was always so inspiring. Although I couldn't imagine a triathlon. I thought, "I want that. I want to cross a finish line. I want to run a marathon". I'd tried time and again to get into and maintain running with little long term success.

Then my SIL and I joined a local running clinic together. My SIL said she wanted to complete a marathon by the time she was 40. I am 4 years younger but thought "me too, what a great idea," something I could aspire to. She was coming off chemo after a second battle with breast cancer. Unfortunately her health deteriorated and she passed away just shortly after her 41st birthday in Sept of 2006.

I picked up running yet again in Sept 2007 just a year after my SIL passed away. I wondered what could keep me motivated to really stick with it this time. I love running and NEED it for my mental and physical well being. The marathon goal sprung up in my thoughts again. I kept playing it over and over then realized I better stop thinking and start doing. I'm NOT getting any younger.

Then I thought wouldn't it be great to pick up where my SIL left off. I could run as a tribute to her  and realize a personal goal :thumbsup2 if I complete a marathon before I'm 40. I looked around and Disney just seemed the perfect venue for my 1st marathon, although quickly approaching. I better get my butt in gear and train for this sucker.

Is it weird that I'm only 38 and I'm already planning for turning 40? :woohoo:

Welcome to the club--I think it's great that you're planning on celebrating your 40th & remembering your SIL in such a special way. ITA--there's no better place for a 1st marathon than WDW! :cloud9:

And I don't think you're weird at all. I started celebrating my 40th when my DH turned 40; this year, I turn 40 & the party continues. And I think I'll try to make it last the whole year!

:bday:

Hello WISHers turning 40 and our friends who have shown us the graceful, or at least the entertaining, path to new decades! [Dave, I'm looking at you! ;) ] I put together a birthday list so we can celebrate the occasions and offer each other our well WISHes.

:cake: party:

P.S. From other posts on the WISH forum I know there are others turning 40, and know some folks names, but only decided to include the info provided on this thread. I'll update the list as necesary!

Well, since this has stretched into 2009...

I will be turning 40 on July 1, 2009. That milestone weighs heavily into my goal to run the marathon in 2010. I want to be able to run a marathon at 40.

DH (turned 40 in 2006) and I have decided to become healthier, and have started running at the beginning of February. We purchased a treadmill (which we  ), and will be signing up for the Expedition Everest Challenge this fall. Not sure if DH will be doing anything other than cheering at the 2010 marathon, but he might do the half. If he's really excited about the full by then, I'm sure we could bring more support people to watch our kids on that day. He doesn't need to decide for a year though, so we'll wait and see what happens.

Great plan for celebrating your 40th with the 2010 marathon! I'll be there for the Goofy, hopefully wiser but definitely older! :lmao: Also, it's cool that you're doing the EE Challenge. :woohoo:

Princess Aurora and blizzard - Welcome to our party! party: PA - what a way to honor your SIL. I think that is awesome! :thumbsup2 PA & b - Hey your 40 celebration will just last longer than ours. ;) The more the merrier, I say! :grouphug:

Any more celebrants?

Wow, there are so many of us turning 40 this year or in 2009. Sounds like we need to celebrate during Marathon weekend! :cool1: party: :bday:
