Wish Verandah Top Lock - Upper Berth?

From a safety standpoint, worried that you can you reach Wish Verandah Top Lock from upper berth. Does anyone have any experience in a 7A and know the proximity of upper berth to upper lock?

Looking at 7A staterooms 7670 and 7690 or family ocean view

I would also go to family verandah if necessary or recommended (from what I see the beds don’t butt up against the door)

Thanks for any input!

The issue with opening the top lock from the upper berth is leverage, hand strength and arm length (if you are concerned about a child.) The ladder appears to be placed on the furthest side away from the verandah, too, so no climbing up and fiddling with the lock. I'm 5'2" and found the lock on the Magic to be tricky if I was trying to open it and carry my coffee & book out with me. The door also requires more effort to open than your standard sliding door and makes an audible noise. (DS10 could open it when unlocked, but DS7 could not.) It would be easier for a child to open a locked and safety bolted stateroom door than a locked verandah door.

A lot comes down to your specific travel party and what would make you the most comfortable so you can relax on vacation.

I think that the upper berth is fairly far away from the lock - you'd have to have pretty long arms to reach. Also, unless you ask for it to be kept up during the day, the only time someone would be in it would be during the evening/night and I presume someone would be in the room to see that. Also, as PP states, even if you were able to unlock it from that distance (I always seem to manage to keep locking it myself; usually takes a couple of tries to unlock), you then have to get down and haul the door open and it does take some effort.

Thanks! My concern is that my 6 year old who could be sleeping in the upper berth could inadvertently unlock that top lock giving my toddler access to open the sliding door.

I don’t think he would do anything we told him not too. Since it would be their first cruise (and my wife and I’s in a long time) we’re just nervous about the unknown.

Ok thanks! This is helpful

I don't think you can inadvertently unlock that top lock. It's not like just tapping it with your foot would do it. You have to be planning to do it.

And even if they happened to do it in their sleep (highly unlikely), your toddler would have to be like a baby hulk to have the strength to open it.
