Wish Trippers...Unite!! Volume One

Lin and I have been doing a lot of thinking and discussing about the Seven Dwarves. Perhaps that is because I am only 5'5" and she is ... well quite a bit shorter than that.

You may recall that when I came into the SeaFire to get my, now cold, lunch at SW, after talking and talking and talking on the phone to try and straighten out problems with my pre-paid debit card (violin music should play in the background at this point), I said:

"I am not Happy!"

She said:

"Then which one are you?"

At this point I choked on my burger. She sure knows how to break the tension. I am hoping to get a shirt that says, "I am Grumpy because you're Dopey," that someone suggested on my DL pre-trip thread.

Well, we were trying to name all of the Dwarves from memory the other day, and it occurred to us why the other six really need Doc.

Grumpy: Needs an anti-depressant prescription

Sneezy: Needs an antihisimine prescription

Sleepy: Has chronic fatigue syndrome

Dopey: Needs to be referred to a rehab program

Bashful: Needs therapeutic counseling to overcome phobias

Happy: Hmmm.... could it be that he is too Happy and a bit manic?

This has really helped me to understand the whole Snow White story. Apparently, the cottage in the woods was actually and in-patient treatment center run by Doc.

This brings up a really crucial question:

Why are there no dwarf smiley icons on this board? Could this be a subtle form of discrimination against those of us who are vertically challenged? It gives one pause to think, does it not?

Bill

Seriously Dude, you have way too much time on your hands!(But you make me laugh!):rotfl2:

These links came from Newtodis. Thanks!

"Here are the links I previously mentioned. I finally broke down today and bought a three ring binder at lunch to keep all of my Disney paperwork in. It's amazing how quickly it's filling up!

"Ultimate Packing List" (would need to be edited to include any medically necessary items): http://themouseforless.com/downloads...ckingList-.doc

Another Disney Packing List: http://www.geocities.com/djkidkaz/Ul...ackingList.doc

Email to Disney Dining (I emailed regarding my son's shellfish, garlic and peanut allergies and was given a wealth of info for the entire "World"): WDW.MK.Special.Diets@disney.com

Another good site is www.themouseforless.com. In the "Downloads" section on the left side of the page are many different things such as stroller tags, child id cards, character list, ect.

Index Card "Planners" (I have links for this in Word and Word Perfect I think-I can certainly email along if you'd like. Also, all would have to be edited to the family's plans).

If you're addicted to watching Disney on tv, here's a site that will tell you when Disney related things will be on: http://www.bartlett-sloan.net/tv/age...odeagenda=soon

Tips from AOL: http://members.aol.com/ajaynejr/disney.htm

Ride Height Restrictions: http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/rr.htm

Here's a contact at CRT if anyone's going there: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1825361

I also have a "picture ideas at Disney" Word doc that I could email you-it's about 5 pages long of different places to take pictures

I have (somewhere on this computer) a 6 or 7 page list of fun free (or very inexpensive) things to do while in the "World" If I find it, I could email that to you as well."

In 2 days, this thread will be 9 months old. Does that mean we are about to give birth? :confused3

It is amazing how many of the original posters here are still around from time to time. You might want to look at the first few pages and PM some of those folks to thank them for getting this started (not me lol). :grouphug:

I believe this thread will go on and on and on for Wish Trips far into the future. :flower3: I hope that doesn't scare the monitors.

Bill

Bill, you already know that I am married to Grumpy and He's Grumpy because I'm Dopey! I used to tell my 7 kids that at any given time all the dwarves lived at our house and we had this Motto:What good's a Dwarf if they don't do chores?

I can tell you that no one takes care of food allergies and special food needs better than Disney. I have a severe allergy to Tomatoes and Mike has Type 2 Diabetes. Every time we go into a restaurant, a cm will go and get the chef and we get either an extensive tour of the buffet or exact descriptions of what is ok and what is not ok to eat on the menu. When the chef at Boma's took us through the buffet, several people started to follow us. They couldn't understand why he was telling us not to eat certain foods. We had to explain that the food was fine, we just had to avoid tomatoes and sugar:rotfl:

And I don't know if someone is about to give birth or not but I have already been there, done that. I will be happy to be the proud Grandmother!

Denise

bill you crack me up too, after the day we had yesterday i needed to laugh and well your posts did it. how do you come up with this posts, are you a ball of energy or something

I can't remember if i told y'all but jonah an evaluation (again) for the communication device, with his speech therapist and ot. It looks like we are going to get it. We are just waiting for her to finish the paper work and submit it and if everything goes as planned we'll have it about 3 months :cool1: We are also getting mounts for his chair so we may be taking it on the trip with us instead of doing the cards, but we're going to wait and see when it gets a little closer to time. The device is sooo neat and we'll be able to easily program just about anything into and down load pictures to it also. It's going to be so cool when we can finally get it.

becca

Becca,

That will be so awesome if you have everything ready for the trip. I think the CMs will love it.

OK, I can't stand it anymore!! It's just too confusing for me!! When I first got on this thread, I didn't know who lurked as far as MAW people, etc., so I hesitated to identify my Wish Child by name. I have realized since, however, that it was a silly notion...but I have been calling my son by his initials on these boards ever since, just because it started out that way. Now that I'm doing a PTR, I am really wanting to just call him who he is!! My wish kid's name is Clay. CLAY!! No more initials for us!! I'm going to edit my PTR right now....

Amy,

You are so funny :goodvibes

Thanks for sharing Clay's name with us. Now he can see his own name in print.

You're getting exicted aren't you now?

Bill

Amy,
I know exactly how you feel. I was the same way.

Now our 10 people are:
Mike--Grandpa
Denise--Grandma
Aunt Mandy
Uncle Tim
Uncle Jason
Bryan--Dad
Lindsey--Mom
Brody
Karlyn
Gabby

It is so much easier to use a name you can remember when you are as old as I am (56)!:rotfl2:

Now Clay will know who you are talking about in your posts!

Have a wonderful day.
Denise

Well, I'm 36 and I'm already having memory problems!!! OK, here are all our people:

Me-36
DH43, Lance
DD14, Madison
DS11, Ty
DD8, Shay Lynne
DS8, Clay

Here are some questions for you fellow Wish trippers:

Earlier in the week we received a bit of bad news from our Wish Granter, Erin. She told us that it was determined that once we check out of GKTW any tickets that we did not use will have to be given back. We only have four full days at Give Kids the World before we check out, but they give you tickets to see seven parks. We knew there was no way we could accomplish this but didn’t want to pass up the once in a lifetime opportunity to see all these parks (not to mention our kids are ride junkies). Hence, the extension. Any other wish trippers out there have any experience with keeping their tickets during their “extended” portion of the stay?

Will we at least be able to keep a ticket to see a park the day we are checking out?

The weekly Christmas celebration at GKTW takes place the day that we check out. Does anyone know if we will be able to participate in the GKTW festivities this evening even though we will be "checked out" of our villa?

Should we book a Fantasmic dinner package or can Wish kids use the special side entrance for Fantasmic to the reserved seating area?

Should we purchase the Universal Express passes ($19.99 each) Since Brian and I would like to do a couple of the adult rides like Mummy and Hulk.

Does Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure have a Wish Loung (like the ones at Magic Kingdom and Epcot) that we can use to recharge and get the kids naps. Does Disney Studios have one?

Did any of you fellow wish Trippers need to use Fast Pass? Especially if you did an adult ride without your “wish kid?”

We are planning to purchase tickets to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party as Make A Wish has told us this is not something they do.

Erin told us that the Florida chapter will make arrangements for Sebastian to meet with one special character. We told them it was no question: Buzz Lightyear! We are wondering what to expect. Anyone have any experiences with Make A Wish coordinating a specific character meet and greet for them?

We also told Make A Wish that we would like to eat at Chef Mickey’s the first day that we arrive since we won’t be visiting a park on this day. Anyone have experience with Make A Wish coordinating a character meal for them?

we bought our own Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party tickets too.

We made our own adr (advance dinner reservation) for the crystal palace, that way i could decide what day and what time, i'm sure MAW could make the adr for you if you wanted them too.

I can't answer you other because we have been yet but that is what we have done so far.

Working on our Wish Trip Planning:

Many folks plan on using their last ticket the day they fly out. I am not sure how this works. Has anyone done this?<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

The weekly Christmas celebration at GKTW takes place the day that we check out. Does anyone know if we will be able to participate in the festivities this evening even though we will be "checked out" of our villa?

After you check out of your Villa you are still considered guests for the rest of that day. There will be no problem with staying at the Village and doing everything there. We checked out in the morning and stayed until lunch time. It is amazing how deserted the place is during the day. Everyone is out at Theme Parks except the folks leaving that day.

Should we book a Fantasmic dinner package or can Wish kids use the special side entrance for Fantasmic to the reserved seating area?

We did not use any Wish Trip privileges for Fantasmic. You might ask at Guest Services about that. You can call them on the phone.

Should we purchase the Universal Express passes ($19.99 each) Since Brian and I would like to do a couple of the adult rides like Mummy and Hulk.

If you have a GAP (US version of a GAC) at US you can go up to the ride, explain that the Wish Kid is not able or willing to do that ride and they should let the others in with priviliges. If you have a problem ask for a senior staff member on that ride. This happened to us on Rip Saw Falls.

Does Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure have a Wish Loung (like the ones at Magic Kingdom and Epcot) that we can use to recharge and get the kids naps. Does Disney Studios have one?

The only special lounges are the Wish Lounge at MK and the VIP Lounge at Epcot. We can use those. Otherwise go to First Aid for rest and recharging.

Did any of you fellow wish Trippers need to use Fast Pass? Especially if you did an adult ride without your “wish kid?”

We never had a Fast Pass of any kind. There was no reason. We even split up and did 2 attractions at once by showing the GAC, explaining, passing it off to the other group.

We are planning to purchase tickets to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party as Make A Wish has told us this is not something they do.

A lot of people purchase these on their own.

Erin told us that the Florida chapter will make arrangements for Sebastian to meet with one special character. We told them it was no question: Buzz Lightyear! We are wondering what to expect. Anyone have any experiences with Make A Wish coordinating a specific character meet and greet for them?

We did not find this necessary. At Guest Services your GKTW badge or Make a Wish Badge works wonders. Ask where characters are at that time. When you get to the character greet, explain to the CM that this is the ONE character that really matters in the Wish. They will work their magic for you. Still, the Florida chapter may set up a special appointment for a private greet. These happen all the time.

We also told Make A Wish that we would like to eat at Chef Mickey’s the first day that we arrive since we won’t be visiting a park on this day. Anyone have experience with Make A Wish coordinating a character meal for them?

We had to arrange our own character meals over the phone. On the other hand, Guest Services did get us last minute reservations at the Castle. No small feat! Ask your Wish Trip Coordinator right away if they are going to help with this or if you need to.
