From reading these posts I've heard about something called a GACs. I was curious to what that was? And does GKTW supply it? Sorry if these questions have already been answered!
Since we land on a Sunday in the late afternoon. We have decided that this day will just be for looking around the village, going to orientation and doing any activites at the village that night. We may also head over to Wal-Mart to pick up any essentials that we will need for the week. Does anyone know if the Wal-Mart near GKTW is open 24hours?
Another shopping related question hahaha!!! My DD LOVES to shop.. Does anyone know of any good shopping stores down in Florida. See where we live we only have one mall and a few stores like a wal-mart and a zellers. So we would love to spend some time shopping and browsing.
Also, one last question before I leave. Has anyone ever heard of a Dole Whip? If so could you please explain to me what this is? So many people have told me we have to try it. Yet I'm not quite sure where to get this or what it is.
Thanks everyone!! Sorry for all the questions!!!!![]()
You are right, GAC does equal Guest Assistance Card. From what I understand...GAC = Guest assistance card..maybe? Bill told me that you do recieve it at GKTW when you are at orientation. Bill, 5dwardves adn wendygrace should be able to tell you more about it. I might know some more after we get back!!
Thanks to everyone who posted information. This helps out a lot!!!!!
I feel much better knowing that people didn't get their packages till just before the trip. I think I just might be able to breathe a sigh of relief for the moment
Momof2wCF: My DD is 16years old. So I would love to hear about all the things your DS liked at GKTW and also at any of the theme parks. I hear there is so much to do and I know we won't get it all done. But hopefully we can all pick out some stuff we really want to see and start with that first.

Hey Winnie Lover...welcome to the DIS and to the Wish Trip thread.
We received our GKTW package about 2 weeks before the trip, and our wish agency package about 5 days before our trip. While there was a little anxiety about waiting to get it, it really did come in plenty of time for us.
The teens that were at GKTW the same time that we were, really loved Universal and all the rollercoasters. My DS14 enjoyed the thrill rides there and at Disney, and we were not at GKTW all that much. When we were he took advantage of the pizza delivery, the pool and the ice cream parlor.
Yes, the Wal-mart by GKTW is a 24 hour store. It is cram packed during the day, so a late night visit may not be a bad idea to avoid all the crowds.
There is a lot written on GAC's. The more you read, the more you will see that it is something that people on the DisAbilities thread want to protect, as some have misued it. Some people have even tried to profit from GAC's by auctioning them on ebay. I think that is why so many answers on GACs are kind of vauge. Know that it is Disney's intent to provide you with the best experience for your child's special need and the GAC is one way in which they do that. It is a Guest Assitance Card and Universal has one as well. The CM's at Universal called it a "Golden Ticket" but it has another name, like Guest Pass or something. It works pretty much the same way as A GAC. I expected to go to Guest Services to get my son's GAC, but it was in our orientation packet from GKTW. There were several boxes on the bottom, indicating where the GAC was issued, one for GKTW, and that was checked on DS's. It is my impression that the policies on the GAC are something that are in flux, dependent on the CM you speak with or the nature of the special need. My son's needs were always accomodated as a result of the wonderful CM's and the GAC. As the parent of a child with special needs, you will find that the GAC will make your trip a lot smoother and provide the CM's with the information they need to make your visit to WDW the best that it can be.
There are lots and lots of shopping malls in Orlando. Some of the couture (translated expensive) nature, some outlet malls some just the run of the mill kind. I believe many are on international drive and I also think there is a flyer at the Gingerbread House at GKTW about them...

Winnielover - Nov 10th is very close! You must be getting really excited! Are you staying at GKTW? QUOTE]
Yes November 10th is definitely getting close. It's only 20 days away but we're not counting!!!![]()
We are staying at GKTW and we are super excited. We have heard some wonderful things about the place. It just sounds so magical. I don't think any of us can really imagine just how magical this trip is going to be for our family!![]()
Interesting about GAC and front of the line. I guess we'll see how that goes. When DS was first coming up with wish ideas, he was leaning more towards sports, but then those didn't come through and he knew of 2 other kids that he met at the hospital who did Disney and really enjoyed it. DS was in the hospital for about 4 months and lost a ton of muscle mass while waiting for his transplant (he was hooked up to a heart machine and also spend part of the time on dialysis until his kidneys started working again, so mobility was pretty much out a good part of the time). He went from the hospital to a rehab hospital as an inpatient for close to 2 months, and left there abe to walk again but had a wheelchair as backup. He was really weak, and after lots of PT/OT, he got most of his strength and endurance back, but he's still not 100%. He's so, so much stronger and almost 100%, but he runs out of steam more quickly, and when he's done, he's really done (steroids contribute to this too - patience is a toughy when you're on that stuff). So when he was last in Disney, age 6, we could go from 8 in the morning till 10 at night, walking and doing and seeing everything. He really was amazing. Now, we're going to have to go slower and front of the line will really help - standing for long periods of time really does him in after awhile. But when you look at him, he looks totally fine and normal, so I wonder if it will be hard to get front of the line privilege without them thinking we're taking advantage. I am not one of those people who likes to take advantage of things - totally the opposite. But I do want his trip to be totally fun and easygoing and I don't want to come up with itineraries that wipe him out, because he won't handle that well. And if I have to explain this whole story to a CM, they might put us in the front of the line just to shut me up! Sorry for rambling!
ok..I feel like I am losing it. Trying to pack and I feel like there is something I am missing or something that I have totally forgotten about. UGH!! So what do I do...get on the DIS for a break!!!I think I am mainly waiting for DH to finish up his packing, but he is at work and will have to wait for him to get home.
He is an overpacker, so I will have to watch him!
