OH! I didn't even know this was here! YAY! I am subbing I am going to catch up in the next few days!
We too are a wish trip family! My DD5 Mia was diagnosed in May with Melanoma. This type of cancer in a child so young is very very rare. What is even more shocking is that she had this kind of wart looking growth on her foot. It was perfectly symetrical, red with a pearlish tint. She had this growth for about 3 years. Many doctors that we had seen didn't want to do anything about because of her age. Finally, a plastic surgeon removed it and biopsied it. We were crushed when he said he didn't get it all, that it was deep into the tissue.
So Mia had second surgery to remove the rest of the cancerous tissue from her foot and had 13 lymph nodes removed. She had incisions in her left leg and abdomin, a skin graft and incisions on her foot. She was totally imobile for two weeks. Luckily only the sentinal node was cancerous and not the surrounding nodes. She started a chemo treatment called Interferon Alpha. Unlike traditional, she didn't lose her hair and was really ppositive about the whole thing. Once we had made the phone calls to family and friends very magical things started happening.
We had booked our WDW trip in April, one week prior to her first surgery. Next thing you know, I have emails from my mothers co-worker coming into my mail box. The woman who's name is Laurie was on the board of Dream Come True Foundation and offered to take over our trip planing. After a few weeks of consideration, we gave her our blessing! So many people have reached out to us and its absolutely amazing. We had set up a blog for our family and friends to keep up with her treatment.
