The kids in our town are currently 13 hours into a world record attempt. A guy in town had a neat idea and now the little league is trying to play the world's longest baseball game. The kids will play continuously from 8AM this morning until 8PM tomorrow night. My middle DS (9) played the first four innings and my youngest (6) played innings 26, 27 and 28. They will be playing through the night with changes in shift every hour except in the middle of the night when the 13, 14 & 15 yos will play for four (2AM to 6 AM). This will be a record in that the game will be 36 hours long.

Now we're praying for no rain and that the kids scheduled to play in the middle of the night all make it to the game.

The longest game on record currently is 32 and 29 minutes.

:thumbsup2

The guys on WEEI were plugging this on Friday. I think the weather will definitely hold out for the big kids over night. I think that will be the hardest stretch.

Good Luck!!!

What the OP also did not mention, but I think is important, is that they are also using this as a fund-raiser for some very very worthy charities.

Yes, it is being used as a fund raiser and they have raise a lot of money. But I didn't want to mention that as I didn't want to be seen to be soliciting funds. Really I'm just happy and posting for good wishes because the kids are soooo excited about the whole thing. They have over 800 kids participating so it's a huge effort.

Completely understood. That's why I posted it. ;)

Seriously, it's a great idea, and the money is going to some great causes. I have a nephew who's a KP senior and baseball player, I wonder if he's there helping out?

Very cool! Good Luck to all those boys!

Girls too! The softball teams are also playing.

If anyone wants to check out the game it's being broadcast live on www.wdisam.com; a local radio station that also broadcasts over the internet.

debster812 - a lot of the KP kids are helping out by working the concession stand and manning the registration tables. Maybe your nephew was one of them!

When I first read that I got this image of a kid about to fall asleep getting up to bat until you said there were shifts.

Tons of luck!! I'd SO be playing that game. Anything to stay up all night :rotfl: Plus, baseball is fun!!

What a great idea!

It sounds like loads of fun, too.

I assume they are keeping score as well?

I saw this on my local news this morning. Good luck.

They Did It!

Here are some pictures:

That's right 101 innings, and the score was 339 to 348. The guest won. Yay! that's the team my kids played on.
