Well, I decided to go off of my short term disability today and return to work.

My doctor wasn't too sure about the idea, neither was my husband. But I decided it just wasn't fair for me to leave my employees shorthanded like that any longer during this time of the year. (I manage a store for Hallmark)

I had high hopes that I would be able to handle it okay but last night was a living hell for me, and this morning is no better. I am miserable in pain right now. Matt told me to call in and have the doctor extend my leave out at least another week but I'm just too stubborn. (Darn redhead )

Wish me luck that the 9 hour shifts won't kill me - I just need to make it through 7 weeks of it until the holiday is over and I get my 30 day allotment of sick time for next year.

Good luck Lauri! You are a kind and brave person to think of your employees, but don't risk your own health. In the long run, it would be better for everyone to have you back full time at 100%. Is it possible to not work such long shifts?

Lauri, I'm hoping the change of scenery will do you good, maybe be a distraction from your pain. However, don't you think 9 hour shifts are a bit much?? Take it easy and if you can fit a cot in the back room, don't be afraid to take some mini-breaks during the day!
