Wish Maiden Voyage Delayed

Omicrooooooon! *shakes fist*

Editing myself: Didn't realize the maiden voyages passengers were being rebooked! That is good to know. Still sucks for everyone else who arranged early sailings. :(

I feel bad for all the people who scrambled to book the maiden voyage. :(
They will be rebooked on the actual maiden voyage. And DVC people will be rebooked on that one. It’s everyone else in June/July that really is screwed! I’m not sailing until Sept but have a friend who was on the last affected sailing (which has just been replaced by the DVC one), so I’m sure she’s annoyed!

According to the linked article, those on the Maiden Voyage and the DVC Charter (which sails immediately after the Maiden) are being automatically rebooked to the new dates.

Why do we think the ship was delayed?
Shortages? Labor? Supply chain? Cheapek?

DCL Statement:

From Disney Cruise Line: "Over the past year, it has been nothing short of magical to see the excitement build as each new detail about the Disney Wish is revealed. Our cast and crew, as well as our partners at the Meyer Werft shipyard, have poured their hearts into bringing this magnificent new ship to life. While we are all eagerly awaiting the ship’s debut, today we must share that our anticipation will unfortunately have to extend a bit longer than initially planned. The shipyard has notified us that despite their very best efforts, they will need more time to finish our ship due in part to the pandemic and particularly the arrival of the Omicron variant in Germany at a critical point in the process. As a result, we are left with no other choice than to delay our maiden voyage until July 14, 2022, which will regrettably affect your sailing. We apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience we know this will cause. " Guests who were booked on the original maiden voyage will be automatically shifted to a new sail date of July 14 at a 50 percent discount. If they are unable to move to the new sail date, they will have the option of either a 50 percent discount on a future cruise departing by December 31, 2023, with any originally paid funds converted to a Future Cruise Credit, or a full refund. Guests who were originally booked on the other affected sailings will have the option of either a 50 percent discount on a future cruise departing by December 31, 2023, with any originally paid funds converted to a Future Cruise Credit, or a full refund. Disney Cruise Line has temporarily paused the sale of all Disney Wish sailings while they process these changes. As a result, all affected sailings will no longer be visible online or in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. On February 8, Disney Wish sales will resume and new sailings may be booked online.

We are booked on the June 20th sailing coupled with a week at WDW. Not sure how we will be able to move things as DD has school commitments later in the summer. This really blows but sadly, is par for the course in the covid world.

I completely agree. We are on the last, affected sailing and that 50% off is great. We were actually thinking of rescheduling anyway and the discount may actually make a holiday cruise affordable. I'm not complaining at all!

We are on the last 4 day in August before the kids go back to school (august 15-19). 50% off is so tempting but I really wanted to be on the wish during inaugural season and trying hard NOT to pull kids out of school again next year for a week (because I'm gonna do it in 2023 and possibly for a disney trip in october and league of legends world championships in nov so it really isn't an option). I am trying to think through how I would feel if we wound up getting bumped because again, really wanted inaugural season and going during the school year just isn't a thing for us. too many other things lined up.

I wouldn't get too excited about the 50% discount on future cruises until you work through all the restrictions they put on it (for example, can't change who's going). We've been trying to work something out since our May 2020 COVID cruise got cancelled and its been many, many hours on hold with DCL and DVC and new hurdles at every turn.

I hope they handle this better but given the poor communication (we're four months out from first sailing and you just communicated today that there's a delay- well, all those other plans that Disney wants me to make well in advance now need to change)....
