Wish for adult pool!

Adult pools, adult restaurants, adult transportation, adult only days at the park... I will sign that petition.


Sorry. But I get so sick of hearing children cry because they are so exhausted or they didn't want to go to epcot, or any of the billion other reasons children cry at Disney. I dread seeing a stroller come my way while on transportation.

When was the last time you saw a Disney commercial with Mickey and Minnie holding hands with two adults? This is the quintessential family destination. Without kids, Disney would not exist. You can find adult only vacations all over the world; you will never find this concept applied at WDW. They know what pays the bills.

Some of the worst behavior I have see has been adults not children.

We come here a lot. We came here when our children were small and now we bring all of themplus our grandchildren. However, we do come alone at times and would really enjoy the resort or at least a pool without kids. Don't get me wrong, my kids cried, screamed, etc. But those days are over for us and we wouldlove some "quiet time" at the "Quiet pool". !

So when your kids were the ones making the noise, it was ok. Now that your kids are older, other kids are a nuisance. I don't know if I could exemplify a double standard any better if you gave me a few hours to think.

I'm okay with family pools, but how about adult only hot tubs. The kiddies are always hogging those. Don't they know us old people need the warm water more than they do? lol

Yes the kids were in the hot tub as well. I'm talking 7 year olds.... Talking and screaming at the top of their lungs to each other. She had 4 kids, the baby went down a slide on his belly, she encouraged him while in the pool, and of course it was very hot because it was baking in the sun all afternoon, then he fell on the ground for going down on hs belly, feet first. He screamed for over 1/2 hr because his belly hurt from being burned. They finally left and everyone sighed a sigh of relief!

Also, children should not be in a hot tub!

This made me laugh b/c we just got back from OKW 2 weeks ago and were there over Easter. Our room looked onto the Miller's Road pool - usually our favorite and usually pretty quiet. Except there was a loud, obnoxious and selfish group of ADULTS out there all week. Literally all week. Drinking and smoking all day poolside and acting like they were at a bar instead of a resort, hogging chairs with personal items for hours without being outside, talking so loudly we could hear them inside our villa with the windows closed, setting up their own personal cabana tent which they left out all week, etc. I'll take KIDS over that any day!!!

Didn't Victoria and Alberts impose an age limit of no kids under a certain age. i don't think most of the posters are asking for a child free WDW just certain dedicated areas. if they specifically built a small resort that was adults only then there wouldn't be anyone worried about being near the adults only pool.

And personally I think if Sandals can talk all those adults out of their money for a beach vacation that WDW could do a fabulous job.

Oh could you imagine going to the parks in the morning on a bus with no children.

Did you complain? Were they camping out in the tent? Maybe they were squatters.

We were comped our dessert at the Cali Grill last week because of the riot and obnoxious activity of one table of guests and their children. My DH could see management circling around behind me eyeing them and then she came over after they left and apologized for the noise. It is one of our fav restaurants in WDW and we will still contiue to enjoy our meals there. What else could they do? I think it was handled as best as it could be.

There were the adults that allowed their child (4 year old--I know because I sat with him while he played in the water) to swim without their direct supervision--being within an arms reach or very close. Seems in that family if you can hold your breath underwater for a nanosecond you are left alone. I mean the adults were on the other side of the pool.

Then there are the adults that scream at their children and spouses for minor infractions.

And lordy don't get me started about the text messaging. Almost every stroller I saw had a parent with a cell phone either talking to someone, texting or playing a game. Meanwhile kids are climbing on everything, loosing their place in line or screaming to get out of the stroller. It was what I noticed most on this trip. It was heartbreaking to think they they may miss something special in their childs eyes because of the cell phone.

We had a great time of course...but the adults where the ones encouraging, participating in and promoting this behavior.

It's the age of over-stimulation. (I'd love to see the world try to get along without wireless communications for one day.) You're right though - and it's not just in Disney but in life. The parents who are always on the phone/texting are missing their kids growing up. They're so caught up in their own world that when they're jerked from it in order to take care of a situation their child is in, the response is usually a very defensive one with snap judgements made.

... sadly, kids learn by example.

No, but maybe we should have. I never thought I'd convince DH to stay anywhere but OKW but after this trip and ending it at Kidani he now says he wants to try Kidani again! I don't mind people having a good time, but there were others who wanted to use the pool area.

As a side note, maybe I am just getting snotty in my older age, but I feel like each trip there are more and more rude people at the resorts. OKW felt more like a value to me. I like to tell myself this happened after the II to RCI switch.

There are child free areas ranging from the WDW perimeter throughout most of the rest of the civilized world. It won't happen at WDW.

An adult only resort would be an epic failure.

Sandals is offering 65% off, 1 free night and $100 in spa credits for a reason. Adults only travel is down dramatically. One of the last things people will dip into discretionary funds for is their kids. Disney knows this.

I would put a child free area at WDW, be it a pool, bench or shady tree, up there in probability with free APs for life for DVC'ers and complimentary limo service to and from the parks accompanied by chilled seafood

Good luck keeping WDW open given your criteria.

Combine the two of those ideas and you have my greatest fear in Disney.

Yes, I do know sarcasm when I see it and I don't see it. Actually, I'd go the other way and say I don't know how it's possible to see it as sarcastic. It details specific dislikes, there is no hint of sarcasm. It's very matter of fact and categorical.

Like many of you, I get frustrated by children whose parents are not as interested in parenting as I would like them to be.

Fortunately, my DD 18 always notices the sweet ones. She pointed out one who took his little brother into a gift shop to buy him a souvenir, another who had been tent camping during a rainy few days who was THRILLED that her mother declared her a "trooper" and bought her both of the $2 trinkets she had been looking at instead of making her decide, another who enjoyed her tea at the Grand Floridian with perfect manners....

So my suggestion is to look for those kids. They're out there. And they make the other kids a little more bearable.

WDW specializes in family friendly travel...I'm not sure I like the idea of adults-only areas, mostly after our most recent Disney Cruise. I travel often with my sister and her 2 girls (15 and 17) - these girls are respectful, fairly quiet, and old for their age...and actually LIKE hanging out with us (as we do them - it's the reason we travel together). There was literally no place for us to all swim together (or even take a cool-off dip) - yes, they have their own "teen club" with a small pool...but adults can't go there and like I said, they like hanging out with us on deck.

I found it particularly frustrating because many of the adults in the "Quiet Cove" pool are far more obnoxious and disrespectful than these girls would ever think of being...and for those of you who are about to suggest the "family pools" on the cruise...you may not have seem them - it's CHAOS in those pools, they are literally filled with practically shoulder to shoulder people at any given point during the day.

When I go to Disney I expect crowds, I expect strollers to hit me in the knees sometimes (have you ever tried to drive one of those things through a park?), I expect to share the pool with loud splashing children, and I even expect the occasional meltdown - it's Disney. Maybe it's just me but to me that's all a part of the experience. You can't always control the situation but you can certainly control how you react to it!

Agree with this. It always the bad experience that sticks out in our minds, whether its kids or adults and there is plenty of both to go around. As others have said an adult only area could create just as much noise or problems as unruly kids. Although I can see why adult only areas would be appealing to some, I just haven't reached that point yet. I doubt Disney would ever do it, but who knows. For now I will look more for the pixie dust and try ignore the best I can those incosiderate people who cross my path.

In truth I was being mildly serious but my aggravation is not really with the kids as much as it is with the parents who drive them past the point of exhaustion then we all get to hear about it.

It really comes down to the same kind of thing we have discussed with people not taking care of their rooms. It is a lack of courtesy. Just like I should be careful and take care of my room because it is a home I share with many many others who also want to have a nice vacation people should manage their children better for all of those people around them who are also on vacation.

I do not know at what age a child can handle going commando but from what I have observed they at least need to be out of the stroller.

Now it is not a major deal. I probably only have 4 or 5 encounters a day if I eat on Disney property with all of those DDPs flying around and spend much time at the parks and on transportation. I do all of that much less now. I have had really bad experiences a few times with children who were just acting wild while their parents just ignored it but usually it is just the crying and the worst place for that to happen is at a meal. I am not sure why the child can't be taken outside until it calms down but apparently even that is too much to ask.

I agree with this 100%. I have 3 children and have learned to call it quits when they are ready. There isn't a roller coaster/character interaction worth being with and around an overly tired, hungry, hot, etc child.
