WISH Away the Pounds -- Spectacular September Challenge!

Hey all! Happy Sunday! Just want to pop on and say that DH and I are super busy knocking out a bunch of yard work this weekend, so I haven't had a chance to jump on and chat. I'll try to at least take a look at the QOTD before I go to bed tonight! Sorry I haven't been able to be as active as I would like so ar this month! BBL after my yard-work work-out!..................P

Well, I am a samer, but I will take it! Did my mid-week "peek" and it said I was up 4 pounds! That was quite a shock. But I must have had something funky going on with my body cuz it was gone weigh in day. :confused3 Just wish it would have taken some friends with it! :lmao:

I sleep 6.5 hours a night. Even on weekends. Just can't do any more. I can go long periods of time on just 6, but if I manage 7 it's a miracle. You'd think I'd get more done around the house! ;)

My first week of work went fine. It is so weird to be working! Being a SAHM and then a substitute for so long just makes knowing where you have to be every day seem very strange! Friday was a frustrating day at the computer. :badpc: I must have talked to the technology department half a dozen times! :( Oh well. At least I am being paid to deal with computer frustrations! :rotfl2:

Need to do some meal planning and shopping.

Have a great week!

Motivational Monday

This is my first time posting a musing, so I hope you guys like topic (I think it's a good one)!

As most of us know, weight loss involves much more than just eating well and exercising more. Having the right mindset is essential to losing weight and living a healthy life. Sometimes it’s difficult to remember why you’re doing this and what the end game is. Having a mantra that you can call on when you’re struggling can help keep you motivated and stop you from giving up.

Weight Watchers asked some of their members what their favorite mantra is, and here are some of my favorite answers:
“It matters not how slowly you go, only that you do not stop.” — Julia B.
“Life has no remote… YOU have to get up and change it yourself!” — Tracy S
“I’ve come too far to take orders from a cookie.” — Gina L.

Thanks!
All of my races have been 5k's so far. Most of them I find through local running groups but active.com has some posted too. I have one coming up on 9/28 that supports a local program that supports childhood cancer. I'll have some more in October and in November I am doing a 6 mile race (supports one of the local university programs) and am doing the Space Coast half marathon on Nov 30th before our cruise!

I love the 5k distance. 10ks are fun, too, and of course, a half is big accomplishment. Sounds like you have some fun races coming up! :cool2: Thanks for sharing! :flower3:

My weigh in was okay but boy do I not believe it. My scale is totally screwy. I really need a new one. It showed me down 4.8 since my last weigh in in August. I didn't weigh in on 1st. And that last weigh in was a little up from water weight but I still think my scale is going out. I'm gonna try new batteries but I just haven't been "all in" on my plans.

You may just have had a good week, Melissa! :cool2: Hopefully the new batteries will the be the key to solving the issue of the scale for you.

Hope you had a great run! 6 miles is quite a distance!

I was supposed to go for a run yesterday, but it was surprisingly warm and now the sun sets much earlier, so not a lot of cooler evening. So, instead I went for a 1 hour walk through the city (including treating myself to a nice Jasmin Orange tea at Starbucks) in the evening. It was so nice! Going running today!

I think 5ks are great fun! Helen, who used to be part of this group last year, has this amazing weekly 5k that is being organised in a local park. I would love to have something like that! The next race here in the area is on October 3 and it has a 6k, a 10k and a half marathon. I think I am going to run the 6k this year, in years past I did the 10k twice, but I think I am not nearly fit enough for a 10k at the moment...

Hope you had a great active Sunday, Magdalene! :cool2:

I wish that we have something like Helen's 5k every week here, too. A 6k would be fun -- you could totally do that and I know you could get up to a 10k level fairly quickly from where you are now. :flower3: Of course, with winter approaching there may not be as many race choices.

There is definitely a difference as you move from the 5k to the 10k. I had a problem over the week-end with one of my knees and ended up walking the last mile of my run. But my runkeeper told me it was the 4th fastest time for that distance so it would have been a record if I hadn't had to slow down. LOL. I love my running group but these training plans don't have any cutback weeks and I think three long weeks in a row was too much for me. I am taking anti-inflammatories and tapering back now to ensure that I have a great race in two weeks.

Motivational post for the day:

Check out this entry on the Disney Parks Blog:

It is about a 82-year old runner who is still going strong. I lived seeing how much fun she had during the race! I hope I will be that young when I am 82!!

Thanks for sharing this, Magdalene! :flower3:

I would like to be running when I am in my 80's, too. I figure if I stick with it long enough I'll start winning my age group! :rotfl2:

I'm sure your yard looks marvelous, Pamela! :flower1: I know the pressure of getting out there and getting everything done before the first flakes of snow fly. ::yes:: Thanks to our neighbor replacing their fence and the deer invading for a week we don't have any fall cleanup because all the foliage is gone. ;)

So sorry for the overwhelmed feeling, Buffy. Deep breaths. I'm sure it is tough with a kiddo in each flavor of school all at once. Don't lose Buffy in the shuffle and take care of yourself so you can ride herd on all of them! :flower3:

My mantras seem to change periodically. I never seem to be able to come up with one phrase for weightloss or running for that matter. Right now, this is my go to phrase as I am trying to continue last week's momentum and getting my food under control again:

Hmmm, I guess I don't have a "saying" per se, but I do always believe in never giving up. In other words, if I mess up and have a set back I had times in the past where that would just end all progress. Now, I am of the mentality of, 'Okay, I screwed up. That sucks but I am human. It does not mean I can't "fix" it so let's move forward from here and try again.'

........you are out and about having fun jogging on a sidewalk and you see out of the corner of your eye what looks to be like a hhuuggee spider......just handing out in mid air!!

So Goofy me, doing my best to be respectful of it but still wanting to get close to it, went a jogging to the far right hand of the side walk........

But little did I know that Mr Spider had spun his web clear across the freakin' sidewalk .....literally from tree to tree!!

YUP!! Ya guessed it!!
So here I am, "apologizing to the Spider for wrecking all its hard work while laughing at the same time trying to get all that spider web 'stuff' OFF MY HEAVILY SWEATING FACE!!

EEEWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!:crazy2:

All in good stride though even thought Ladybug (my 3-yr old Blue Tick Beagle) thought I had suddenly turned weird on her as she looked up and saw me flailing away at my face trying to get that web off of me......;)

Wellbeing Weekend 9/5

First, sorry for the delay in posting this question. I started having an aching tooth yesterday and that totally threw me off as my first priority was to see the dentist today as I was afraid it would get worse over the weekend! But it turned out to be less of an issue, so here is the wellbeing weekend musing for this week:

Glad it isn't something big!!

Topic of the Day: Sleep

Sleepy_Disney-Sleep-Guide.jpg

How Sleep Loss Affects Weight Loss

Have you ever watched how much and how well you sleep as part of your weight loss strategy? Do you think you get enough sleep? Do you think there is anything you can improve to ensure to get more/better sleep?

I definitely think adequate quality sleep is SUPER important, not just to our weight loss, but to our overall health! I usually get enough these days. For my best nights sleep I need it cool (almost cold) and super dark. I have even taped paper over all of those annoying little lights on the stuff in my entertainment center (the one in the bedroom) and occasionally need to turn my alarm clock away from the bed.

oh ladies....this is on my front door step. I had an overproduction of cortisol due to a pituitary tumor....surgery led to Growth Hormone deficiency which I now replace daily...and having an overproduction of cortisol for about 5 years led to my being insulin resistant which I take meds for. Since pituitary surgery failed, I have my adrenal glands removed and now make zero cortisol and replace with steroids (4 times a day) to try to mimic how the body produces cortisol normally. Let me tell you these hormones are NO JOKE!! my body shape changed dramatically...

after having severe insomnia for 4 years, I am so thankful to sleep that I am very good about getting enough sleep. I usually get between 7-9 hours a night. I use the sleep mode on my fitbit to track my 'restless' periods during the night to see if I'm getting good solid sleep during the night. If not, I adjust either my nighttime habits (tv/comp time to reading, no alcohol after dinner, winding down time, etc). I have been seeing a sleep medicine doctors for about 4 yrs to get sleep! SLEEP IS SOOOO VERY IMPORTANT!!! deep sleep is when our muscles heal, very important for all us active WISHers. I could go on and on...I'll stop now

No!! I love to hear from folks who have really pushed through an issue and learned so much about things we need to do to keep/make ourselves healthy. You could definitely teach us all a lot!

Happy Saturday everyone! I haven't been around much last week, but I have to say thanks to the thread once again for keeping me on my toes! On Thursday checking in here and reading your conversation inspired me to go for a 5km run even though I was feeling tired after work and yesterday I actually did one of those Sparkpeople videos we talked about last month. I did a 15 minute core workout and felt that it was a nice little program. I am trying to add at least little things like that into my days when I am not running. Today is a running day again!

That's great! And I am definitely inspired every time I read here! So many different folks on different journeys but all with same goal.... overall better health and fitness!

My sister and my BIL got titbits yesterday and now we are "friends" on there. I can already tell that this will motivate me even more to be active if someone else sees how active/inactive I am!

I can DEFINITELY see that as a motivator!! I assume you mean "fitbits".;)

And my answer to my own question:

I read about how sleep affects your weight loss about 1.5 years ago and to me it was quite a revelation. I find that on days when I sleep less than 6.5 hours, I am just constantly hungry. I have put far more effort into getting more sleep (luckily I nearly never have problem with sleep quality) as it is really just me and not any outside reasons that prevent me from going to bed earlier. And when I do, I do notice that my general well-being is so much better. I can function very well with little sleep and do get through my day well enough. But having a constant 7-8 hours of sleep really brings such an improvement!

Maybe that is why DD seems to be hungry so often.... perhaps I should mention that to her.

Good morning all! :goodvibes:

Our results are updated through all the PMs I've received so far so be sure and check out our pretty colors! :rainbow:

Thanks!!

I think sleep is very important for weight loss and overall health. I used to be able to sleep anytime but as I've grown older I've had some sleeping issues. One those days when I am tired my willpower is nonexistent. :sad1: I stop eating and drinking after a certain time of day and power down the brightness on the Kindle an hour before going to bed. I sleep with a fan for white noise. One of the best things that you can do for yourself is to make sure your body gets the change to really rest and recharge every single day. :hippie: Great question! :thumbsup2

I am still working on stopping my food earlier in the evenings. Last night's cup of hot drink and mini-treat was pretty late(probably 8:30). Guess I need to work harder.

Off to run 6 miles with the running group this morning -- two weeks until my race! :cool2:

What race do you have in 2 weeks??

Hope you had a great run! 6 miles is quite a distance!

I was supposed to go for a run yesterday, but it was surprisingly warm and now the sun sets much earlier, so not a lot of cooler evening. So, instead I went for a 1 hour walk through the city (including treating myself to a nice Jasmin Orange tea at Starbucks) in the evening. It was so nice! Going running today!

That sounds VERY nice!!

I hope everyone has a great Sunday! I had a horrible night - talking about good sleep. People were shouting outside my window at 4:30 am and seemed to never stop. And then I had weird nightmares. I guess it is nearly a full moon, so that might be the reason.

Had a nice breakfast - treated myself to some multi-grain toast (I just love the smell of toast, maybe because that's what I always got at my grandparents as a kid while my parents seemingly never had it) and a boiled egg and a peach. I think I am going to get myself a cup of coffee now and then start an active Sunday!!

Sounds like a yummy start to your Sunday. HOpe it was a good one!

Well, I am a samer, but I will take it! Did my mid-week "peek" and it said I was up 4 pounds! That was quite a shock. But I must have had something funky going on with my body cuz it was gone weigh in day. :confused3 Just wish it would have taken some friends with it! :lmao:

Have a great week!

I can only imagine that it is a big mental shift having a full-time real job! Even my once-a-week stint with WW has totally thrown me! I am used to absolute and total flexibility in my work schedule and I really dislike this solid committment on Tuesdays. Meal planning will definitely help now that you are a working lady!

You know how I know things are out of control and I am stressed??? I chew the crap out of my nails.
I have been doing so well with them, and they are just a mess today!!!

WATP Musings Motivational Monday, September 8, 2014: Do you have a favorite weight loss mantra? What is it? Do you feel that having a mantra helps keep you motivated and on the right path?

I have LOTS of them!! I'll try to post just one or two.

If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got.

A goal without a plan is just a wish.

There is definitely a difference as you move from the 5k to the 10k. I had a problem over the week-end with one of my knees and ended up walking the last mile of my run. Lucky you!! What did the deer eat?

Right now it is less about beauty and more about function. As I've mentioned before, we live in the woods and Mother Nature is constantly fighting us to take back her land. We've been cleaning the trees and brush that were starting to encroach on our driveway. Cleared back about 6-8 feet on the wooded side. Have about a half day's work left to finish that job before we move on to CONTINUED work on the front banking. But it isn't really hard and is a decent workout with all of the cutting and trimming and bending and lifting!

My mantras seem to change periodically. I never seem to be able to come up with one phrase for weightloss or running for that matter. Right now, this is my go to phrase as I am trying to continue last week's momentum and getting my food under control again:

Happy Monday all! :goodvibes

Lisa.... hope your Monday is great.... and thanks again for keeping us moving for September!!
(**********************

Morning all! Having keyboard issues here and feeling ready to throw this thing out the window!!

Anyhoooo..... home with DH again today. I'll be pulling on the outside work clothes in a few minutes and heading out to start chopping and trimming. DH is supposed to be on vacation this week, but he has to help someone with some sort of project today, so he'll be tied up inside for a while..... but that is no reason for me to slack. I caught up the laundry over the weekend, so I have just one load to hang out and then it is on to yard work! DS doesn't like yard work, so I made him help with some inside work this weekend, so while the house isn't pristine, it will certainly pass muster for now.

Belly issues have not completely resolved.... I'm going to give it 24 more hours and if I am still having issues I am going to start keeping a very detailed journal of exactly WHEN I feel sick/nauseous and see if I can relate it to any particular food item.

Gotta dash..... the chipper and saw are waiting!....................P

Hi all! I’m back! I hope everyone had a great weekend.
This is going to be a long one because I have a lot to catch up on …
OT -- I'm doing some preliminary looking for a short stay at WDW in March, has anyone gone to the flower and garden festival on the first day? do you think everything will be displayed when it opens? I've never been and would be so disappointed if I got there and realized not everything was up, that would be very un-Disney like but just thought I'd throw it out there
I haven’t been there for the first day, but I think Disney usually sets stuff up early enough that it will all be there by opening day.
Have you ever been to F&G before? I went a few years ago and I loved it. I’d love to go back, but spring can be a hard time of year for me to go on vacation.

Since the big "M" hit sometime in the last 12 months, I have been struggling to get back to what I consider the bottom of my maintenance range and I am currently just a hair over my WW goal weight (which keeps things interesting, since I am required to weigh-in for work monthly). But I have NOT given up and I am trying to NOT beat myself up for carrying around these few extra pounds for the past few months (I lost some in the spring before my birthday, but still didn't get to the number I really wanted to see again). I am trying to decide if it is too many splurges combined with not enough exercise, or if truly my hormonal state is playing a role.

Anyhow..... too much rambling! My goal for September is just a mere 2-3 pounds. I know myself, I know my body, and I know that even THIS will be a victory!
The way I see it, any goal is a big goal! For some people, losing 2-3 pounds is all they can do in a month, and there’s nothing wrong with knowing your limitations! It’s great that you’re not beating yourself up … hormones are probably a big part of it, but it’s important to remember to try your best and not beat yourself up.

Have you ever watched how much and how well you sleep as part of your weight loss strategy? Do you think you get enough sleep? Do you think there is anything you can improve to ensure to get more/better sleep?
I hope your tooth is all better!

Sleep … I’ve had insomnia for as long as I can remember. I always say that I haven’t slept through the night in 20 years – which isn’t entirely true, but is pretty close to the truth. I have a hard time falling asleep, I toss and turn, and I almost always wake up a few times in the middle of the night. I generally wake up tired, which I know throws me off my game.
Right now I’m using fitbit to help track my sleep (although lately my fitbit has been acting up and not properly tracking my sleep), and I’m trying to get to bed earlier, so that even if I wake up a few times in the middle of the night, I have the opportunity to spend more time actually asleep. I’ve also taken to drinking coffee whenever I’m tired (I used to try not to drink coffee more than 2-3 times a week) because I find that it stops me from overeating and helps me have the energy to be more active.

It’s great to hear that we’re helping you to stay active!

I have that problem a bit during this time of year … I’ve been going out early in the morning before it gets too hot, but if I don’t have time to go out in the morning, I don’t usually have the opportunity in the evening before it gets too dark (although it still gets dark pretty late, it’s just still very hot). It’s great that you still got a walk in (and got a treat)!

6K sounds like a fun distance! I’ve never done anything over a mile (and that was when I was about 12), but I’m hoping to do longer distances … I’m currently training for a 5K, and I don’t think 10K will be on my radar anytime soon. I hope you enjoy the 6K and can get back to doing 10Ks soon!

---

I hope everyone has a great Sunday! I had a horrible night - talking about good sleep. People were shouting outside my window at 4:30 am and seemed to never stop. And then I had weird nightmares. I guess it is nearly a full moon, so that might be the reason.

I hate when that happens! Whenever I stay over at my sister’s apartment, I’m always woken up by something in the middle of the night. Hopefully once the full moon passes your sleep will be back to normal!

Sounds like a good breakfast! I love toast … it’s basic but good.
Hey all! Happy Sunday! Just want to pop on and say that DH and I are super busy knocking out a bunch of yard work this weekend, so I haven't had a chance to jump on and chat. I had something similar … I was up 2 pounds mid-week and down 2 at the end of the week. Oh well, the same is definitely better than up!

I sleep 6.5 hours a night. Even on weekends. Just can't do any more. I can go long periods of time on just 6, but if I manage 7 it's a miracle. You'd think I'd get more done around the house! ;)

I think a lot of people have that … if you can’t force your body to get more sleep, then I guess you just live with what you get!

Glad to hear work went okay!

WATP Musings Motivational Monday, September 8, 2014: Do you have a favorite weight loss mantra? What is it? Do you feel that having a mantra helps keep you motivated and on the right path?
Right now, my mantra is a quote from Finding Nemo – “Just keep swimming”
I screw up a lot, and I’m someone who really dwells on my mistakes, so it’s important for me to remember to just keep going and just keep trying. Whatever happens, happens, and I need to remember to never give up and just keep swimming.

My mantras seem to change periodically. I never seem to be able to come up with one phrase for weightloss or running for that matter. Right now, this is my go to phrase as I am trying to continue last week's momentum and getting my food under control again:

yoda.jpg

Happy Monday all! :goodvibes
Mine change a lot to. I think many people’s do.
I love the Yoda quote – it’s something that applies to so many different situations and always encourages you to go out and do something!

Never giving up is always a good philosophy!
It’s good to remember that you’re human and you can fix it and move forward!
Lots of arachnid craziness!! YIKES!!

The little electronic lights bother me too, but I usually just face away from them (my bed is against a wall, so it’s easy to just face the wall). It’s good that you have a routine and a way to get the bedroom the way you need it!

I have LOTS of them!! I'll try to post just one or two.

If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got.

A goal without a plan is just a wish.

Those are both great! Thanks for sharing!

I hope you start feeling better soon!

As for me … I went for my run this morning, and the weather was finally nice (I’ve been running in high 70’s and occasionally low 80’s … which is so hard for me – today it was high 60’s, which was pefect).
Today is one of those days where I have a lot on my to-do list and won’t get most of it done. I’m okay with that as long as I get the important stuff done.

Have a great day, all!

Hello, my dears!

I am late in signing on, but here I am, all life craziness be damned! ;) Lisa, I'll PM you in a few minutes with my September starting weight and goal.

Here's me of late, in a Yay!/Boo! list:

Yay! I ran the Dumbo Double Dare at Disneyland over Labor Day weekend, tacking on the 5K to boot! Saw some friends and had a wonderful solo trip for these races. Also ate a LOT.

Boo! DH's company (he'd been there over ten years) shut down unexpectedly a few weeks ago, and we're in mild panic mode as he launches a huge job search. He's in the IT world and has a security clearance, which bodes well here in the DC metro area, but it's extremely stressful and unnerving, to say the least.

Yay! DDs (almost 10 and 7) started 5th and 2nd grade last week and are loving their school life so far! Both teachers are wonderful, and I'm finding the school routine a bit calming, even while it's a crazy flurry of new schedules, forms, etc.

Boo! Right before his company shut down, DH totaled his car. Everyone is FINE (the girls were with him), but the car was totaled by the insurance company.

Yay! The car was totaled. Stay with me. With DH out of work, we're getting by on one car for now and banked most of the insurance payout as money we might need if the job search isn't successful soon. And at least that was the car that was paid for...

Boo! I'm starting fall without having made any appreciable gains in my weight loss efforts, which is frustrating. I feel like I've been yo-yoing a ton lately.

Yay! After a week off, I went for a great 4.39-mile run this morning (45 minutes was the schedule for today), getting back on the horse as I get ready for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon in two months. A trip we're still taking as it's all paid for already. :P And I'm going to start PiYo in a few days on the recommendation of a friend who has the DVDs and loves them. I need to get stronger, and I think it'll help my weight loss efforts, too.

And finally, YAY! I'm back here! I've missed you all.

So many ups and downs for you Liz!! Glad you are able to see the GOOD as well as the BAD (and the ugly). Glad to hear everyone is well after the accident (did you mention it last month??... it sounds familiar). Prayers for your family and for the job search. And hugs for being back here with us!!

Afternoon friends! I'm grimy and dirty and tired and it feels pretty good! I've been cutting and chipping and hauling and lifting and dumping and digging. Now we start BURNING (the stuff that doesn't fit in the chipper). Cutting myself some slack and feeding the men eggs and toast or veggie meatball subs (their choice) for dinner. I'll start the fire going in the next few minutes and will probably be chopping and burning until 8-9 pm. I'll be back in the a.m. to chat!! ..........................P

Busy weekend and so much to catch up on! Love the chatter and the mantras posted so far !! I don't really have one but I like the idea of it.... Maybe I can come up with one ::yes::

Done, Buffy, and thanks!!

Day one of being back on the wagon (foodwise) is in the books. I feel a bit like I want to eat everything, so I think I'll go to bed. :)

I just got home from rehearsal with my new (to me) chorale. This is the semi-pro group I auditioned for last spring. It's so hard and so fun - I am loving it! Our first concert of the season is in four weeks. And we learned tonight that the National Symphony Orchestra has invited us to perform with them in February. At the (omgomgomg) Kennedy Center. !! There are a few moving parts before this is finalized, but I'm pretty sure our conductor would move mountains to make this happen. Woo!

Love all the mantras people are posting. I am usually not good at having a motivational saying, but recently the graphic about my comfort zone and where the magic happens really stuck with me and encourages me to do things I normally would not do. I will try to find an example later on!

Liz - I am sorry that you have such a stressful time, but it seem like there are some really wonderful things happening as well in your life. The choir sounds fascinating! What kind of music do you sing? Didn't you just come back from a cruise? How was it?

Buffy - I hope you will have beautiful nails soon! Sorry for so much stress!

Pam - I am going to be in Florida for Thanksgiving, as that is where my boyfriend lives (and it makes it easy to combine visit to boyfriend with visit to WDW ;)). But you can be certain that when I am back in New England, I will let you know. I would love to meet you in person for a chat!!!

Linda - I hope this week will be easier being back at work!!

Nothing new here. I was very hungry yesterday all day long, but I think it might have been due to walking 35000 steps over the two days this weekend and then adding another 17000 yesterday. So, I tried to make good use of my points anyway even if I did go a little bit over, but none of it was mindless snacking. Very proud of myself.

I also tried a new dish - kind of a chilli soup. Like a chilli, but with tomato pulp added to give it more liquid. It was very filling. I added some bell pepper to it to have some vegetable in there and that was tasty. I am kind of amazed at myself how I now like bell peppers in so many ways while 10 years ago I hated them. Maybe I will love cauliflower one day, too????

Sarahdisney-- I have good news for you, there is a way to retrain your brain into better sleep without drugs! Have you heard of cognitive behavior therapy for insomnia? Or sleep restriction? I was forced to go through this when my sleep Aids no longer worked. It's a bit brutal for a month, but it really works. I was stunned when I learned going to bed earlier actually contributed to my insomia. I worked with a sleep doc, and I'd recommend for anyone to do the same, but you can read online about the basis of the therapy. When I decided to try it, was because I wasn't getting much sleep so I figured why not?

Magdalene -- I second the dislike of cauliflower !

Thanks everyone for the kudos on my health struggles, I'm really happy and willing to chat about it.....in real life I find that folks don't want the details and so I've kinda trained myself to answer with the short answers. I forget here it's different :)

Good morning, friends!

Still on track - Tuesdays are my crazy early commuting days, and I grabbed a banana when I first left and then had a Luna bar on my way to the office. Lunch today is on someone else (woo!), and I've advance scouted the menu and have a good idea of what I should order to stay on plan today. I am determined...

Magdalene, yes! We had a cruise booked without the kids that coincided with DH's company going down the drain. We didn't have any official notice that would have kicked in our travel insurance, and it was long paid for (including our on-board credit, which we prepaid to cover our costs), so we just took a deep breath and went. It was a weird vacation because we were pretty stressed out, but we tried to relax as much as we could and treat it like the calm before the storm. And then we hit the ground running when we got home - the company's official shutdown meeting was the day we got back. :/

We are both registered for the Wine & Dine Half in November, and our room is booked through DVC...and our flights are already booked. We're certainly hoping DH has a job by then, but at least we know that trip is already paid for, too. If DH has a job but can't take those three days off as planned, then he'll defer the race entry and I'll go, but hopefully he'll find a job *and* get to run the race as planned.

I had forgotten until these last few weeks how much I tend to eat my stress. Being back here is a Very Good Thing.

Morning all!! UP and moving fairly slowly. Belly is acting up again. Gurgling throughout the night, but not so nauseous as last time. Trying to keep a better track of what I am eating and when so that maybe I can pinpoint something. Twice when it happened I had eaten ice cream before bed (last week it was a small serving of "real" ice cream, last night it was a WW frozen bar). But I've had ice cream and/or dairy on other nights with no problem.:confused3

Also trying a new "experiment" in my eating pattern. The initial thought was that it would help with weight loss, but maybe it will help with the other stomach issues. I KNOW in my heart that I should be eating a bigger breakfast and smaller dinner and having less snacks at night. Even though I count them and save the PPV for them, I KNOW I should eat less at night. So I am going to try having at LEAST the same amount of PPV for breakfast and dinner and leave just 2 PPV for my evening snack. That will probably mean no more frozen treat and very much limit other snacks (nuts, cocktails, peanut butter). I'm going to give it a real effort for at least two weeks and see if I see any changes on the scale and any changes in how I feel.

Cutting myself some slack this morning and probably won't head out for yard work, especially since I need to get ready for work (WW) tonight. Hope I feel better than I did last week.

I love that you can see the good in all this, and I especially love that there are more YAYs than boos.

That is pretty cool. The Kennedy Center is a pretty big stage - it would be amazing if you guys actually get to perform with the NSO!

Thanks for the information. I was in CBT for something else, and the sleep issues were never something we addressed because I'm just so used to them. But it's something to look into, so thank you for mentioning it!

I hope your new "experiment" helps - I can never stop my nighttime snacking, so I'm always impressed when others are able to minimize or stop evening snacking. Keep us updated on how it works out!

As for me ... I'm pretty groggy today. I had coffee Sunday & yesterday, so I'm trying not to have coffee today (I don't like to have coffee every day), but I may have to just to clear the fog from my brain.
We've got primary elections here today, but I don't know if I'm going to vote because I'm just annoyed with all of the candidates. If I do go out, I have another errand to run ... but today may just be one of those days where I end up in my pajamas in front of the TV all day. Oh well, I'm entitled to a day off every once in a while.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Never give up is a great motto and has been the theme of many of our challenges for a long time. :thumbsup2 I love that you know that perfectionism doesn't work. You totally have the mental part of the lifelong healthy lifestyle commitment thing down! :rockband:

It is ridiculous how many of those little lights there are in everything these days! :rotfl:

Sorry that the tummy is still upset. Hope you start to feel better soon. I'm sure it takes awhile for everything to get back in balance again. :flower3: Do you have any probiotics?

What race do you have in 2 weeks??

My next race is the Sandpoint Scenic Half Marathon 10k. I've done the half marathon before but this will be my first 10k for this race. One of the things I love is that we get to run twice across this bridge over Lake Pend Oreille that is almost 2 miles long!

And in October I am doing another local 10k and two of my WISH friends who I met right here on the disboards are coming to visit and run with me. :yay:

Right now, my mantra is a quote from Finding Nemo – “Just keep swimming”
I screw up a lot, and I’m someone who really dwells on my mistakes, so it’s important for me to remember to just keep going and just keep trying. Whatever happens, happens, and I need to remember to never give up and just keep swimming.

This is a great mantra, Sarah! :thumbsup2 And we even have an emoticon for it! :fish:

Enjoy your relaxing day! :flower3:

Yay! I ran the Dumbo Double Dare at Disneyland over Labor Day weekend, tacking on the 5K to boot! Saw some friends and had a wonderful solo trip for these races. Also ate a LOT.

:woohoo: on the Dumbo Double Dare and your Coast-to-Coast! :cool1: I would love to hear more about your races if you would like to share. :flower3:

Sorry for the roller coaster life right now but thankfully there are more yays than boos and everyone in your family has a great attitude. :hippie:

Sorry for the hungry days, Magdalene. :flower3: That is a lot of activity so it is not surprising that you were hungry. Maybe a little extra protein to help rebuild those muscles that have been working so hard? :confused3

Soups and stews sound yummy as the weather starts to cool down. :cool2: Green chile stew is a favorite of ours and very easy to make. I will post the recipe here and on the recipe thread in the next day or two.

Have you ever tried roasted cauliflower?

Molli, you are such an inspriation! :flower3: I still remember how hard you had to work to get your health care providers to understand that you were sick in the first place. :sad2: You know that we are always here for you and will be happy to listen if you want to share or need to vent.

This is the second time that I've done this post. DH used the computer and poofed the first one. :headache: Good thing for him it is our anniversary this week. In case you were wondering, 21 years is the park hopper anniversary! :groom::bride: We got our tickets for our WDW trip in November for our gift to one another. :rotfl:
