WISH Away The Pounds~ Marvelous May 2014 Challenge! *All Welcome!*

A rice cooker has saved my life! I can cook an entire Thanksgiving meal, but rice kicks my a**! It is another kitchen appliance, but it is so helpful. I can cook brown rice in about 30 minutes with no work. I add the rice, water and any seasonings, click the switch and I'm done. I love it!

I can't wait to join the June challenge. I am determined to lose this weight. I have a ton to lose, but every step forward is a step in the right direction. :)

It actually turned out pretty good and was silly easy. Rubbed the crockpot with coconut oil (instead of butter), added two cups of water and one cup of rice (I had basmati at home). Checked and stirred at one hour. Checked again 45 min later and all the water was cooked in and the rice was done. We don't have room for a rice cooker (or any other appliance right now) so this was a big help.:goodvibes

Thought I'd share. Tonight I made dairy free 'ice cream'. It was pretty tasty and really easy.

You take very ripe bananas and break them into small pieces and freeze. Then blend in the food processor. There are lots of flavor options, but I threw in frozen cherries, a little vanilla and some choc chips. Took less than 10 minutes to make and we threw the leftovers in the freezer. Very creamy and rich. :)

Hey y'all. I haven't posted in past day or two because I honestly don't have much to share. Still meeting my step goal each day. Still behaving myself with food choices with the help of the Plexus Slim and Accelerator+. I ordered two new products today: Probio5 and Biocleanse. I've heard raves about the results people are experiencing when using these products. Everything from weight loss, reduced allergies, cured migraines, healthy energy... I'm excited to see how it works for me.

Since we moved to our new house, we are about a block from a walking park with a 1/4 mile track and a trail that goes off another 2 1/2 miles so, 5 miles out and back. We finally went out and walked there for the first time on Monday. It felt great to get out after the rain stopped. Especially since I was so sore from the outdoor projects I did on Sunday.

I can't believe this month is already coming to an end and our last weigh-in is Friday. I'm not gonna hit my goal but, since I didn't really get serious until half-way thru the month, I'll be perfectly happy with getting half-way to my goal and I think I'm about there.

Y'all have a good evening. :-)

Got on the scale today, 199.8, first time been under 200 in many years, super happy about that!!! still want to drop another 20, get down to my college weight of 25 years ago... :)

Woohoo Wednesday...
hmmm....I didn't wait until June to get back on the wagon. ;) Best I can do this month. Oh, and I still got in a mile every day. :)

DOUBLE woohoo!!

****
I am trying rice in the crockpot today. I am not sure why I think this is a good idea, since it only takes ~2 hours, but I think if I could come home from work and throw it in and not think about it, that would be better than making it on the stovetop. Plus our apartment kitchen is tiny so less tripping over each other if there is one less thing to cook on the stove.

I am hoping I have hit rock bottom with the bad food choices. This has been coming for a while, but I think I am going to try a dairy free challenge for a bit in addition to the gluten.:worried: My stomach felt great when I did the week of paleoish type eating--no dairy. But I really missed the grains, so going to try a whole foods approach--with no dairy or gluten for a bit and see how it feels. Lots of people who give up gluten have to give up dairy too, I have just been in denial. Sooner or later something will make my tummy feel better--and hopefully help with some of the brain fog, other issues as well. :)

I think this is a good thing. :)

Hopefully all of these changes will improve your overall health!

Can I sign up for June? :flower3:

Of course you can! That being said, the June challenge has not been posted yet.... but I'm sure it will be soon and feel FREE to jump right in when it is ready!! WELCOME!!!!!!!

I've never thought of cooking rice in my crockpot! Great idea! I've hesitated to buy a rice cooker because the only ones I've ever found have a non-stick liner and I'm concerned about using that. If I found one with a stainless steel or ceramic liner I would be interested.... but since my crockpot already has a ceramic liner, I guess I'm all set!!:thumbsup2 Plus I try to remember Alton Brown's rule of not having "uni-taskers" in my kitchen! I serve brown rice here for myself and my kids, but since it takes 45 minutes to cook, sometimes I end up substituting whole wheat couscous if I haven't planned my time well. But I could put the rice in the crockpot in the morning and set it up with a timer! ::yes::

I have made this a few times before for DS and myself and it is YUMMY!! I used peanut butter once and cocoa powder once.... lots of sugars (natural from the banana) so DH doesn't eat it, but YUM for the rest of us!

So anxious to hear more about this stuff.... especially the ProBio5. DS has intestinal issues and has been diagnosed with Leaky Gut syndrome and I am always trying to find a new way to improve the health of his digestive tract.

That sounds nice! We have a wooded trail about 3/4 mile from us, but it seems like every time I think about hiking it, it is either hunting season or bug season! We've been here 20 years and I think I've hiked it 3 times. :rolleyes2

WOOHOOO!!!!! That is WONDERFUL! Congratulations! Now hang onto that super happy feeling and tuck it away in a drawer in your mind to pull out when you need a little extra "umph" or motivation!

Morning all! Not working here today on this (finally) SUNNY day! I"ll probably do some yard work and some housework. Sounds like fun, huh??:lmao:

I FINALLY found an overnight oats recipe that was DELICIOUS.... both warm and cold! I'll share it later, but it was SUPER easy.... just 5 ingredients including the spices and salt!

I didn't realize that the 1st didn't come until Sunday, so I may have to hold off with the groceries until then.... but I know it is all a silly mind game! DH gets paid on the 25th, so technically our "month" starts then. But I started tracking our grocery expenses on the 1st of May, so I wanted an accurate count for the full month. Of course, it was an unusual month with DD home for a week, plus our road trip, plus a grocery stop for her new apartment, so the number won't be totally accurate anyhow. So why am I bothering? I don't know. But I DO know that we will NOT make it to Sunday unless I get crazy creative! I don't tend to have canned or frozen produce on hand (unless it was something that I froze/canned myself) other than tomato products.

Tonight's carrot soup will have to change, since I remembered that the recipe called for one potato and an onion.... but I'll think of something!

Off to scour Pinterest for some recipes that include cheese, carrots, dates, and apples, since that is what I have on hand! :lmao: TTYL.............P

I did a marathon meal prep day on Sunday.. I made and cooked Meatloaf, Shepards Pie, Taco Meat, Mac & Cheese. I also made up baggies of meat stuffing for Zucchini/Peppers, Zuppa Soup, Spaghetti Sauce, Pizza Topping. I made up baggies of burger pattys, chicken breast, boneless pork chops and a few smal pork roast, and some sirlion steaks and steak tips.. Also there are meatballs for subs and sauce, ham steaks, Digiorno pizzas and a bag of chicken tenders..
All in all I made dinnertime meals for 11 weeks! I never plan a meal for Sun and some weeks are missing Fri and Sat or just either Fri or Sat.. I was so tired by the end and we had someplace to be - I cut it very close .. But I am soo glad it's done!
My plan is to "shop" from the freezer for the main dish and supplement with sides.. I am trying to no heat up my oven often over the summer - my trailer get sooo hot! I am also going to try and limit the grocery store to every two weeks.. trying to cut out our impluse buying - we are awful!!
I spent a total of $330.00 on the meats, seasonings, bags, foil and containers. I figure I have about 55 meals (55/330 = $6 per meal for 3)and that going to the store every two weeks (milk fruits veggies sides snacks) should be $75 or less.. saving me about $50 per week and about $500 over the course of the 11 weeks.. we will see how it all works out..

Michelle, I am so impressed with your cooking marathon results! :cool2: That was a lot of work but what a time saver. I'll be interested to hear if it works the way you were hoping.

Hello everyone!!

I am back - with a wonderful tan and some souvenir pounds on the scale (I am sure, haven't yet dared to step on the scale yet). But I am also wonderfully relaxed. Going on vacation for 4 weeks makes you feel like you have been away for half a year. What a bliss! I am seriously thinking to do that again next year!!:cloud9: Will post a few pictures when I got them all sorted (I took 2530 and then there are the ones that I bought on the cruise and at our sea lion encounter excursion and the DL photopass). I will also do a trip report again and will post a link once that is started in case anyone is interested. The Panama Canal cruise was absolutely fabulous and Disneyland is just awesome!

I am all set to host the thread for next month! And that will also be the starting point for me to get serious again (like step on a scale and start tracking again). At the moment I am still trying to readjust to life back home and the time zone. Jet lag makes me hungry in the early morning hours, but not at all for dinner, so my eating is a bit out of place. I also did not do well during vacation with making good choices. Certainly something I need to work on more in the future. I can do weight loss but since I never seem to get to my goal, I never got to practice maintaining my weight.

Anyway, but first it is back to losing weight. But I do not regret most of the foods I ate, I did enjoy them a lot!

Magdalene, welcome back! Sounds like you had a fabulous time. Can't wait to read your trip report. :cool2:

Thanks for hostessing the June thread! :flower3: I'll send you a PM about coaching.

Unofficial QOTD for Wednesday, May 28, 2014:

Of COURSE it is WOOHOO WEDNESDAY!! Thinking back through this month of May, share a WOOHOO moment that you had.... a moment on the scale, a moment when you made the SMART choice, a moment when you got a new PB time in a run (not thinking of anyone in particular of course, Lisa ;) ).... anything that made you say WOOHOO in regards to your healthy lifestyle!

Yep as you guessed my :woohoo: for this week was my 5k race! I just signed up for another 5k on 7/6 so that is another :woohoo:

In June I'm going to try and have some :woohoo: for weight loss because this month was not so great -- I'm trying to be happy that I'm not gaining but that only goes so far. :rolleyes1

Woohoo Wednesday...
hmmm....I didn't wait until June to get back on the wagon. ;) Best I can do this month. Oh, and I still got in a mile every day. :)

Great pictures Pamela. We went to Niagara Falls in 1987 and loved it! I am so impressed with your cooking plans to get you through the week. :)

LisaH--so happy to hear you are enjoying your runs! :)

Welcome back Magdalene! Sounds like a wonderful trip. Can't wait to see some pictures. Thank you for hosting June.

bigsis1970--very impressed with your meal planning!

Thanks for sharing your experience on the rick cooker! :thumbsup2 I've heard lot of good things about them. Do you ever do anything besides rice in it? Like quinoa?

BRB in trouble with the smilie police.

Hi! I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. Much. :)

Magdalene, welcome back!! Your trip sounds amazing - I am thoroughly envious of such a long trip. I hope you're feeling refreshed and ready to dive back into everyday life. So glad you'll be back around the boards!

Woo-Hoo Wednesday: I did *not* want to get up and run this morning. Usually, I can pull myself out of that by reminding myself that I'm always glad once I get out there, but it was so hard today. But I got my butt out of bed, got my gear on, waved in the general direction of both DDs (who were already up, ack!), and got out for 3.1 lovely miles. I'm so glad I did; it really got my day off on the right foot. Haha. :)

We went to Boston for Memorial Day weekend! My sister is there now, with her daughters - we stayed up the street at my cousin's house while they were away in Maine. We had a great time on Saturday at my best college friend's house - he and his wife have two little girls, too, so it was the grownups and six little girls running around! Sunday we went to Lexington, MA, and enjoyed touring a couple of the historical sites and then lounging on Lexington Green. It was a beautiful day, and it felt very appropriate for the holiday.

Sounds like a great time in MA, Liz! :cool2: A big :woohoo: for getting out and running! :thumbsup2

Can I sign up for June? :flower3:

:welcome: Absolutely you can join in June! There will be a new thread with instructions on how to join and you can always ask us, too. Feel free to introduce yourself and chat with us for the next couple of days until we make the move.

People at WW rave about frozen bananas -- sounds like you found a winner! ::yes::

Good luck with that! :lmao: You may have a mutiny on your hands if you don't break down and go to the store soon. :lmao: You could go tomorrow and then it would be a 31 day month -- that would work for planning to make sure you have a long month covered. :thumbsup2

I'm going to end up May right where I started. :sad2: I am wearing a smaller pants size and a regular sized shirt and I didn't gain weight so I should be happy. But I'll be happier next month with a loss. ::yes::

Thanks everyone.. I am starting the grocery budget tracking June 1 as that is when we'll use the first weeks worth of meals from the freezer.. I include all paper/cleaning/misc stuff and food in my budget though.. My previous budget was $100 per week for everything and frequently we went over, so hoping now it's way under that! I will say I do have a stockpile of laundry detergent, bodywash, TP and deoderant .. so I think I'll be ok to come in $50 or less each weekl

So this morning for breakfast I took some of the frozen banana stuff and added it and some nuts and dried cherries to my rice. It was pretty tasty. I felt like it was cheating, but it was all healthy stuff except for a tiny bit of chocolate chips. I think I will do ok with the dairy free if I don't deprive myself of treats and PLAN. The planning is the part that always does me in.

I had a run in with a can of coke today, but all in all it was a pretty on plan day.

I am going to brag. We finished puppy class yesterday and the trainer said we have the best puppy ever. :) Ok, maybe she says that to everyone, but she told us that Jessie has a reserved spot in the next class. We are thinking about looking into training her to be a therapy dog. She is really pretty awesome. :)

She does sound pretty wonderful! A therapy dog? That would be really neat!

*************************

Morning all and HAPPY FRIDAY! Yes, this is the LAST FRIDAY of May! I cannot possibly even imagine how this month went by so quickly!! Still no word from Dona, unless one of you has received a PM from her???? We will give it until tonight and if she hasn't popped in, we will assume that life has put up some sort of roadblock and I'll ask you to post your progress for May so that we feel ready to move on into JUNE!!

I had an okay weigh-in, considering I did not weigh in last week because I was away (honestly, I meant to bring the scale but I forgot) and considering the splurges. I am down (just a bit) for the month but will not be making my June 17th goal without a miracle.

I am working today, so I'm going to dash for now. Lunches are packed, breakfast is made (and mine is eaten).... just waiting for DS to get dressed. I intended to head to the transfer station before work and I have all of the recycling and trash in the car.... but he is running late which means I am running late which means the dump run will have to wait until the end of the day. :headache: I had a few extra minutes to chat because I am not hanging out the towels on the laundry line right now.... they are predicting rain in just a few hours and it looks pretty grey already... so I'll hold off until tomorrow.

I've got to pull a rabbit out of the proverbial grocery hat for dinner tonight and breakfast tomorrow.... but after that I think I will make it! DS has an off-season robotics competition tomorrow, so he and DH will be gone all day and I will splurge and give them lunch money rather than insist that they pack a lunch...:rolleyes1. And I will shop tomorrow since they will be gone all day, rather than wait for Sunday. I've got marinated chicken breasts ready for the grill tonight plus carrots. I've got eggs and bread for breakfast tomorrow.... I WILL MAKE IT! :rotfl:

Have a FABULOUS FRIDAY!!!! Unofficial QOTD coming up next!.............P

Unofficial QOTD for Friday, May 30, 2014:

Finish this sentence about yourself:

"The biggest misconception about me is ___________________________."

Just got a text from my DH stating that my Mom called wondering when we are coming for my cousin's graduation party tomorrow.....WHOOPS! I absolutely and totally forgot about it!

Well, the men are not going to give up the robotics competition, but I can certainly change my plans! Maybe I'll grocery shop tonight and then stay over at my Mom's for the weekend and let the men fend for themselves (again...:rolleyes2 ). DS is having some friends over on Sunday for some gaming, so there will need to be food in the house for that.

I know it probably sounds funny to hear me perseverate on the grocery shopping so much, but if you haven't heard me say it before, we live about 40 minutes from the store, so even to grab just a few things is a major time killer! It isn't too bad if DH goes to the gym and can stop on his way home.... it is only a few miles out of the way. But I would rather he didn't do a big shop.... I end up with too much "extra" stuff!

Subbing in a nice 4th grade class today and they have already told me that they will probably need me every day next week, so if I stay at my Mom's, I will come home early Sunday and spend some time doing meal preps for the week.

Anyone else have any big plans for this weekend??................P

I have been sooooo MIA!!! my apologies, my week in Vegas was fantastic but as par with Addison's I payed the priced when I returned. then memorial day weekend yard work, and appointments, I have just not been on my computer much at all this month!!

I did re-gain some weight on my trip, with the booze and eating out plus taking extra steroids to combat the heat, sleep disruptions and lots of activity. so I'm not sure if my weight is some water retention or burgers and booze LOL

but I'm back on the wagon and working out now and food journaling...i'll try to do some reading a catch up a little

Hey guys! I have been so MIA that I am not even going to try to catch up  Sorry. It's the end of the school year stuff that is piling on. But, I turned in my final grades today! Next week is clean up and pack up stuff for the summer. I cannot wait until 11:30 on Thursday when I officially start my summer :)

So, I am a little off track but totally committing to June and melting off some of these pounds that crept up! I'm hoping to be more active on the thread this summer as well. Hope to see everyone around :)

Jill

Please add me to the list of terrible May participants! I had celebrations EVERY weekend this month except the last one, plus my brother was here for my graduation from college and stayed 2 weeks. I cooked for him (he is a bachelor) all the foods from our childhood. I got all my exercise in and did awesome on that front, but just maintained because of all the bad eating I did. So I was in hiding!

But this last week I have turned things around and seen a significant loss. I am now in the 160s for the first time in a VERY long time and will be on the June thread to make sure I keep going in the right direction.

I see a lot of our participants also had really busy months. Thanks to our vigilant and faithful members for keeping this thread alive. It is helpful and very much appreciated!

Ok so it's 1:00 in the morning and I never posted today. Or, yesterday, if you wanna be technical.

I was down another 1.4 today which puts me at 4 pounds total for the month. It's not the 7 that I had set as my goal. But, considering I didn't get very serious about this until two weeks ago when I started up with the Plexus... I'm content with that.

Looking forward to the June challenge.

Y'all have a good night. :-)

Good morning everyone!! Congratulations to all of you who lost during May - however little it was!! It is all better than my gain. Stepped on the scale for the first time since the vacation today and the number was rather bad. Not as horrible as I feared but neither as only moderately bad as I hoped. So back to losing.

I will post the new thread later today, lots of things I need to do during the day today, but I guess if I post it at my evening time, it will still be only midday for all of you in the US! :goodvibes

Also, I am looking for coaches! Coaching will be for 5 days only (1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-25, 26-30), so easy to do! Let me know if you are up for taking on 5 days (either by PM or here in the thread) and which days you would be prefer!

You are definitely moving in the right direction! I would say that May was a tough one for so many of us! The four pounds is a great move in the right direction.

Sorry that the scale was unkind! But if you can return from a 4 week vacation and have the scale be only "Moderately Bad".... YOU ARE MY HERO!!
Feel free to plug me into any of the first three time slots! Thanks for taking us into June!!

******************************

Morning all and Happy Saturday! I only have a few minutes to chat. I have to get ready to head to DS's off-season robotics competition today and then drive a bit further south to my cousin's graduation party (which I nearly totally forgot about! :confused3 ).

I sent a PM to Dona letting her know that we are concerned and worried about her, but that we are taking care of ourselves and she shouldn't fret about us. I haven't heard back, so today's QOTD will be asking about your progress for May. You can either post it as a percentage or as pounds lost.... or even just what you have learned about this journey (if the scale hasn't moved).

So HAPPY to see so many of you returning to let us know where you've been and how you've been doing! You have been missed and I look forward to hearing more from you in June! But please know that we ALWAYS understand when life gets in the way and things keep us from posting here! And you are ALWAYS welcome to return at ANY TIME!!

Off to post the QOTD!................P

Unofficial QOTD for Saturday, May 31, 2014:

For our last day of May, please post about your PROGRESS for the month..... either percentage toward goal or pounds/percentage lost or even just something you've learned about this journey (if the scale hasn't moved or isn't moving in the right direction).
