WISH Away The Pounds - Marvelous March Challenge ~~ All are WELCOME!

I must honestly say that I was thinking a lot of you when I posted this. The blog was talking mostly about food restrictions like CD, food allergies, etc and finding healthy new ways to eat well. I know you have struggled SO MUCH with the GF/vegetarian eating combo. And it seems like you have been PLAGUED by injuries over the last 6+ months. But you have NEVER given up! You are a HUGE inspiration to me! I know you are struggling to get back to your goal weight, as well.... but here you are, still with us, still working hard at staying healthy and active. :hug:
Thank you for the very kind words Pamela.
FWIW, I have been injured enough to require therapy 4x since spring of 11 and I wanted to quit so very many times. And honestly if I could eat gluten I probably would. Binging on g-f food is just not as much fun.:lmao: But knowing that I have the wish boards and that someone is pulling for me to succeed has helped me to keep plugging forward. I know my issues are trivial, I just need to remind myself and quit having a pity party.

I know someone who is having a lot of back problems and she is talking about holding on as long as she can and then going to a morphine pump--and that will be forever! I can't even imagine. She is my age....

This is why we need to take care of ourselves, keep/get our weight in a healthy range and keep moving our bodies.

My therapist told me today (and I had heard this before) that to some extent the back issues are probably going to be chronic, BUT chronic for me means some discomfort and occasional flareups and pain NOT a morphine pump. If I still weighed what I did before I would be in much worse shape than what I am. :goodvibes

Well for me the chnage is that I am willing to do the work this time! Which, for the first time in my life includes real exercise... about an hour or two 5-6 days per week! And I LIKE exercising now, and I feel yucky when I don't. Amazing for me! Plus I do watch what I eat, which I have of course done every time I tried to lose weight, but I am now trying to really NOT think in terms of "doing it right" and "cheating," just eating clean 99% of the time and occaisionally fitting in something I would consider a treat.
The bolded parts pretty much sum up my healthy living philosophy--except I splurge a little bit more than you and eat healthy whole foods maybe 90% of the time.:goodvibes
Isn't it awesome to get to the point where you like exercise so much?:goodvibes

QOTD--I WANT to be a thrill seeker, but it is hard for me. I am horrible about imagining the worst. Luckily both Mike and DS both assume everything will work out great so we kind of balance each other out.

I do ride all of the rides at WDW and in the past most of the stuff at Universal.

I have been white water rafting and kayaking.

I would like to snorkel in the ocean but it kind of terrifies me.:eek:
We are going to start hiking and mountain biking a bit this summer.

Again, I try, and I usually have fun, but boy I have a lot of anxiety in the process!

Pamela--also wanted to comment on the meatless Mondays. I don't see anything wrong with eggs on meatless Mondays, unless you are going for vegan Mondays. Just my vegetarian 2 cents.:goodvibes

****
So I had pt today. My therapist is leaving at the end of the month. I am just about done anyhow, so I am going to go once a week for I guess the next two weeks and call it good. I think I need to find a good sports massage therapist and just go get a massage once a month period.

Today we worked on strengthening my left leg in hopes that will help with the back stuff. All in all I feel ok, but it is always sore and and tight. And she told me she thinks that will probably be how it is, and I just need to work to keep it in good enough shape to be able to do the things I want to do. It made me a little sad because back stuff is annoying and limiting at times, but like I mentioned earlier, goodness, I don't need a morphine pump so it's all good. I just may not be running any more full marathons.:thumbsup2

Hope everyone is having a healthy and happy Wednesday.

Pamela--if you don't have a coach for Friday, I will take a week. :)

Good Wednesday morning to you all!

QOTD for Wednesday, March 13, 2013:

Are you a THRILL seeker? Do you love rollercoasters? Would you jump at the chance to go skydiving or bungy jumping? Do you head straight to Expedition Everest or Tower of Terror while at Disney? What kind of thrilling adventures have you undertaken in your life? What kinds of thrills are still out there waiting for you?

If you said a huge NO to thrill seeking, then how do YOU get excitement and adventure into your life??

I am NOT a big thrill seeker, but I have ridden a few scary coasters with my kids! I usually am convinced I am going to DIE as the coaster climbs its initial hill.... and by the end I can't wait to do it again!

I also went whitewater rafting in Maine once.... it was thrilled and scary.... and FREEZING COLD!! I am afraid of heights so bungy jumping and skydiving doesn't appeal to me at all!

Usually the scariest things in my days either involve driving in terrible snow storms or eating un-claimed leftovers from the back of the fridge!!:rotfl:

I am easily scared, but I love thrills and it seems that the older I get the adventurous I become. Especially with regard to theme park rides!

But the biggest thrill to me is still hiking in the mountains. On a roller coaster I expect it to be a ride that many people work towards it being as safe as possible. If you are on a rocky trail in the mountains with a wall on one side and the abyss on the other, it is just up to you to be safe. However, I still am only on trails where you can safely walk without using rope and harness. But I am thinking about learning how to do that as well. I am just afraid that I will be a total failure since I am afraid of heights... :scared:

I usually only trust DISNEY coasters. For some reason I have extreme confidence in Disney engineers. And to a slightly lesser extent, Busch Gardens engineers. But I will NOT go on other coasters!

I would LOVE to do some mountain hiking with you..... but once it starts involving ropes and harnesses, you are on your own!!:laughing:

Yes and no. Yes, because even with all the anxiety I feel before getting on Rockin-Roller Coaster or Space Mountain, I still love it once it gets going. But I draw the line at ToT. Can't stand that drop!!:scared1:

I have "jump out of a perfectly good airplane" on my bucket list, but who knows if I'll ever get to do it. The DH won't and I think he'd freak if I did. My cousin jumped out of planes for 13 years in the Army, so if I went with him, he might not have as big a heart attack.:eek:

You would jump from a plane but won't ride TOT??

And as weird as it may sound, falling in love with the DH was definitely one of the biggest non-adrenaline :confused3 thrills of my life. He always says it took us 40 years (and a few marriages between us:rolleyes:), to find each other, and it had to happen that way for a reason. I absolutely agree that everything happens for a reason, and thank goodness this time it did happen the way it did!:love:

awwww... sometimes risking your HEART is the biggest adventure of them all!

Good Morning!!! Still here.;)

How do I get fun and adventure into my life? We used to go boating but we sold our boat last yr. We still have jet skis but they need repair.

At the moment my thrills are reserved for gardening, landscaping, nature, parks, and flea market finds.

Maybe a concert or casino trip once a yr. Oh I do like exploring new restaurants if that counts because that can be an adventure.

I am so boring right now....sorry.:lmao:

I used to love the theme parks and all that jazz but lately, just not interested.

You aren't boring... you just have different interests.... and perhaps you are at a different place in your life right now. And hey, I can DEFINITELY appreciate the thrill of a good flea market find!!:thumbsup2

Thank you for the very kind words Pamela.

I think I tend to be more like your DH and DS. I almost ALWAYS assume the BEST in a situation... until proven otherwise.

Pamela--also wanted to comment on the meatless Mondays. I don't see anything wrong with eggs on meatless Mondays, unless you are going for vegan Mondays. Just my vegetarian 2 cents.:goodvibes

Not that I don't think of eggs as vegetarian.... but we eat them SO OFTEN and I am trying to train my kids to eat more PLANT protein. Given a choice between tofu and eggs or beans and eggs, my kids would pick eggs, every day/all day, hands down.

Do you ever still use the Kinesiotape?? DD hasn't been using it at all this season, but my knee has been feeling "tweaked" lately so I was going to look up some taping techniques and pull out her leftover tape and give it a try.

Hope everyone is having a healthy and happy Wednesday.

Pamela--if you don't have a coach for Friday, I will take a week. :)

I would ADORE IT if you would like to take over as coach for a week! I'm sure that everyone is sick of hearing my "voice"!

*****************

How is it that I need to leave here in one hour to pick up DD and I haven't even folded a single piece of laundry yet?? What the HECK have I been doing all morning??????????

That being said, beds are all made, DD's bathroom and bedroom got a 5 minute quick pick-up, dirty laundry is downstairs and sorted, and I found 5 items around the house to sell (will try on the board at school first before I venture into Craigslist). I also FINALLY processed a gift return from Christmas! It is boxed and labeled and will go to the P.O. today! A few more days and it would have been over the return date!! THen I would have been very mad at myself and had a $25 item sitting around that I have NO NEED FOR! So the morning wasn't a total waste.

I also posted two new recipes over on the recipe thread! Check them out!

Off to accomplish a bit more!...................P

I'm a thill junkie (for the most part). I want to go skydiving so bad (one day...)... And I love roller coasters. Love tower of terror and expedition Everest. I can go on them again and again and again.

I love roller coasters (I dream about roller coasters xD). One day I wanna do something really crazy, cause as far as thrill seekers go, I'm rather tame.

---------

In other news, I've hit the 10 pound mark (despite eating crap all week so far). I think exercise plays a large part in it.

I have a question for you guys. Do any of you visit chiropractors? I go to one monthly and my back is always all sorts of screwed up. -.-

Morning all of my friends! I received an interesting email from one of the healthy blogs that I follow and it has inspired this QOTD.

QOTD for Tuesday, March 12, 2013:

How can you turn your RESTRICTIONS into CELEBRATIONS?

Rather than moaning and groaning about not being able to eat something because you are allergic, or intolerant, or just plain "avoiding" that food (for health reasons or Lent or any other reason), let's find an alternative (food, recipe, ingredient) and a reason to CELEBRATE!

Instead of complaining that you can't run/walk/bike or _____________ because of an injury, lack of gym access, or something, let's celebrate what you CAN DO! Perhaps you couldn't run any more so you found out that you love YOGA!

I'm really not limited with food or exercise right now.

Good Wednesday morning to you all!

I'd say I'm medium with that. I like rollercoasters and all the 'scariest' rides, but I'm not going to jump out of an airplane...

Had kind of a whirlwind day yesterday, worked early and rode my bike. Had to ride hard because I was running late. Had a bagel with creamcheese for breakfast then an apple and banana for lunch. Got off a little late then rode like a maniac to get home so we could see Oz at 5:55. Made it just in time to see all the previews in 3-d. I liked it. Of course I hadn't eaten dinner so I promptly ate 3/4 a box of Michelina's lean gourmet buffalo chicken snackers, some leftover beans and hamburger from tacos with pita chips and an entire bottle of wine when I got home. Then later I ate about 10 cookies and milk. Needless to say I'm up a pound from yesterday..._Plus I'm sore from riding my bike so hard. I'm going to stay home today and clean out the closet for Misty as she's getting close and she really hasn't shown much interest in her boxes...Have a bunch of stuff in there I need to take to Goodwill but I think I'll just toss everything out on the back porch for now. Need to wax too lol so at least I can go enjoy some time in the jacuzzi before work. I've been trying so hard this week to lose weight before I go to Portland I think i was just HUNGRY last night. So I'll try to slow down on the eating today even though I've already had a breakfast shake and 3 pieces of bacon lol. It was the bacon we sell in the meat dept. thick cut applewood and I only buy it when it's at it's lowest price and super lean so it was a treat. Something that's been helping me this week-- Dolvett made a comment on the show last week about slowing down being the easy thing to do when he was talking to one of the kids and it really made sense to me-- it's easy to give in and 'slow down" but you can't. And once you make that decision it's not as hard as you think it will be.

Oh I love all those thrill rides! And I would LOVE to skydive someday... but I always say someone will have to push me to of the plane! I know I wouldlove the dive but I think I could just never force my slef even to the edge of the plane, I am terrified of heights! I am excited to see what adventures are out there for me. I would love to suba dive and hike a mountain (we are lucky to have beautiful mountains here in AZ, just haven't hiked up one, only driven up and then hiked around :)).

DD was asking me today about having friends over after prom.... and I said "SURE!" "Invite all your friends and their dates!" WHAT WAS I THINKING???:eek: No, honestly, this is a wonderful group of kids and I'm sure there won't be any trouble. She wants to do a Disney movie marathon (several of them are big Disney fans, like DD). I told her I would provide food, drinks, and even make a big breakfast in the morning. They can use the hot tub (probably not the pool.... it will still be too cold) and have the entire play room to watch movies, eat, goof around, play Just Dance... whatever they want! We don't have many neighbors, so even if they spill out into the yard during the night, it won't bother anyone (but me). She hasn't had much time to spend with friends and have a social life, with all of her swimming, so this will definitely be a memorable event. Plus it will keep the kids safe!

Saving my workout time for when I will be at the Y tonight. I will be spending my day here CLEANING! This house is a DISASTER! I have a few more weeks of craziness with swim, theater, and robotics.... and then life will calm down significantly.....just in time for Prom season, AP exams, finals, and GRADUATION!! :scared1:

Anyone have any great new recipes to share? I've got two new ones I'm off to post on the BL/WISH recipe thread right now!...................P

Still thinking about your family and hoping everything is okay for them!

Sounds like so super exciting things coming up for DD!

Thank you for the very kind words Pamela.

VERY well said about taking care of ourselves now! My mother has been very overweight her whole life, as I have as well thus far, and she has already had both knees replaced and is now in consults to have her hip replaced (she is only 66). Arthritis runs in our family so I may not be able to avoid all joint complications but I sure as heck am going to get things under control now to keep it at bay as long as possible!

Morning all!

QOTD for Thursday, March 14, 2013:

If you could be on a reality TV show, which one would it be? Why?

I love roller coasters (I dream about roller coasters xD). One day I wanna do something really crazy, cause as far as thrill seekers go, I'm rather tame.

Maybe you could put skydiving on some sort of "50 before 50" type of list! A few folks in my family have been working on lists like that and since I have a big number coming up in about 15 months, I've been thinking of making myself a list.... but it probably will NOT include skydiving!

If you really want to do it, I say GO FOR IT!

---------

In other news, I've hit the 10 pound mark (despite eating crap all week so far). I think exercise plays a large part in it.

I have a question for you guys. Do any of you visit chiropractors? I go to one monthly and my back is always all sorts of screwed up. -.-

I've talked about my chiropractic experience here before, but I'll just mention it briefly again. I spent about 47 years of my life believing that they were basically all quacks. Then DH started seeing one for some muscular back issues and felt HUGE improvement (this was after trying massage and acupuncture). He convinced me to let our DD try it for her overuse swimmer's shoulder issues and she ALSO had big improvments. So I bit the bullet and went to visit to see about improving my neck pain and ROM and associated headaches.... and I TOO had big improvements!

Still not sure about all they say about regular chiropractics improving your immune systems, etc, but I am not so quick to discount it now.

If you like your chiropractor and can feel/see improvements, I say to continue the visits. If you have no improvement, try something else.....or perhaps even a new chiropractor.

I'm really not limited with food or exercise right now.

That's good!

I'd say I'm medium with that. I like rollercoasters and all the 'scariest' rides, but I'm not going to jump out of an airplane...

That's about where I am right now too.

Had kind of a whirlwind day yesterday, worked early and rode my bike. Had to ride hard because I was running late. Had a bagel with creamcheese for breakfast then an apple and banana for lunch. And once you make that decision it's not as hard as you think it will be.

Sounds like you've really given yourself some thinking time, so hopefully the cookie binge is in the past!!

Oh I love all those thrill rides! And I would LOVE to skydive someday... but I always say someone will have to push me to of the plane! I keep wanting to do some mountain hiking around here, but I can't find anyone who want to go with me!

Still thinking about your family and hoping everything is okay for them!

My niece is researching some new/different therapies for her Mom's cancer, so hopefully something will come from that. And I didn't get a chance to talk to my Mom yesterday, but hopefully "no news is good news" regarding my uncle. Thanks for asking.

Sounds like so super exciting things coming up for DD!

I agree!!

Such a good plan to keep yourself healthy! I know a few other adults around my age who are already having trouble with stairs, etc.... and they are mostly overweight and I keep thinking that if they could lose the weight, the knees might recover enough to live a normal life without these restrictions and WITHOUT assuming that there is a joint replacement in their future!

Morning to all of my friends! Eating my YUMMY breakfast bowl while I chat here! Gotta make up for last night's late night eating! I didn't really go over my points, but I was SO hungry when I got home from the Y that I ate a lot really late.... and I try hard NOT to eat past 8 or 9 pm.... but at 10pm I was eating POPCORN! :eek: Like I said, I didn't really go over points, but I KNOW I shouldn't be filling my belly before I go to sleep! It was a result of some bad planning and bringing along a snack that didn't end up being edible (grabbed an apple from the fruit bowl and it was mushy :crazy2: )... plus I was just VERY hungry. :confused3 I'll probably pay for it on the scale tomorrow. :guilty:

Okay.... time to come clean about why page one doesn't have last week's weigh-in results. I am an IDIOT! Both Lisa and Rose were kind enough to email me lots of helpful stuff, including spread sheets.... but I don't know how to use them and no one has been home to help me. So I have been literally doing all of the percentages by hand with a calculator and I'm not very good with math, so I wanted someone to check them before I posted them. DH is home today, so I will enlist his help with that.

I'm sorry that I am being SO LAME about it. I guess I didn't think about the math involved before I jumped in and offered to hostess. Please don't go away because of this. I noticed that the thread has been really slow lately and I'm afraid that folks aren't actively participating because I haven't been keeping up with the results.

Tonight I am driving DD to a local Y for a short workout before heading back to the high school for opening night of the spring theater production(s) {short play and some improv}. DS is involved in the lighting, so I wanted to go and see it.... plus there are many of DD's friends involved and I like to see them.... they are a fun group. And DD can get some NHS points for helping out tonight, so it is a win-win. DS will have a performance tomorrow night as well, but we have a 25th anniversary party for DH's brother and SIL to attend, so we can't go. And then, of course, Saturday and Sunday are FILLED with swimming! But they are the last meets of the regular short course season! DD's last regular season swim meets after 9 years of club swimming!:sad1: But her future is bright, so I won't be too sad! Plus, of course, there is spring training AND summer long course season before she heads away to college.:)

Off to post some pictures on the newest recipes I posted yesterday! Come on over and take a peek!.......................P

Pam-Good point about the ToT. I think it's the fact that all you have to hold on to is a bar or what feels like a wimpy seat belt. At least by jumping out of a plane, I'd be strapped to somebody else!:thumbsup2 So at least if I go, I"m taking someone with me! Hahaha!!:lmao::lmao: (I always like to see the positive side of things!:rotfl2:). And don't sweat the updates: I can't figure out Excel to save my life, so I feel your pain!:scared1:

QOTD: I don't really watch much reality TV, but if I had the chance, I would go on Alpha Dogs on Nat Geo. It's not exactly "reality" TV, but I know the guy who owns Von Liche Kennels in Indiana, and just to be able to work with such amazing dogs all day, I would be in HEAVEN!!!:love::yay::woohoo:

Our neighbors house caught fire and the mom got out but could not get to her baby!! A neighbor had to make 3 attempts to break windows and run in to find the 2 year old before the firefighters got there!!!!!!!!! OM Freakin G I can't even imagine :scared1:

Everyone is ok but it's a total loss. Needless to say we had our family meeting tonight and reviewed all options and techniques for getting out of our house - please do the same w/ your family if you have not already.

Oh my goodness! How terrifying! We taught our kids a plan in case of a fire. One day, I was cooking and the stuff (I don't even remember what it was) spilled over & burned on the burner. Needless to say, my smoke detector went off. DS6 ran down the hallway yelling "Get out. There's a fire." I had to stop him from sprinting out the front door! I was so proud. Then we reviewed where to meet. I'm glad your neighbor & her family are safe and sound!

So excited I can access this page from work!!!! :cool1:

I guess I should be doing work (hahaha) but there are these down times..... right? :rotfl:

Hope everyone is having a great night! :cheer2:

Hmmmm...I'm at work right now. I should probably be doing something more productive. But, work isn't as fun and motivating as the Dis :lmao:

Good Wednesday morning to you all!

QOTD for Wednesday, March 13, 2013:

Are you a THRILL seeker? Do you love rollercoasters? Would you jump at the chance to go skydiving or bungy jumping? Do you head straight to Expedition Everest or Tower of Terror while at Disney? What kind of thrilling adventures have you undertaken in your life? What kinds of thrills are still out there waiting for you?

If you said a huge NO to thrill seeking, then how do YOU get excitement and adventure into your life??

I would say I am a semi-thrill seeker. I love Tower of terror and other rides/rollercoasters. But I do not consider anything at Disney too thrill seeking. I draw the line at roller coasters like some of the crazy ones at Cedar Point. We are about 2.5 hours and I will ride some, but not others (like Top Thrill Dragster). Those scare the bejesus out of me. I actually do better on rides that have the shoulder pull down restraint instead of just a lap restraint. I think I feel safer. I have no desire to bungee jump, sky dive, or anything like that. I did parasail once & loved it. It wasn't thrilling, just relaxing. I would love to zip line someday!!

For those who are praying for my uncle, thank you. It appears he will pull through, although the doctors are saying it was a SEVERE heart attack.

Glad he's doing well.

And for those who are praying for my SIL, thank you and KEEP IT UP. We got an email from our niece today, who is visiting with her Mom right now.... she said the scan shows that the breast cancer has spread to her skull, collarbone, thoracic spine, lumbar spine, cervical spine, upper left arm, shoulder, and hip bones. While this sounds DREADFUL, we are all still grateful is isn't in any organs. She will be starting IV chemo as soon as they put in a port. She had started oral chemo, but apparently couldn't tolerate it. The chemo will be administered every three weeks and go on indefinitely. :sad1:

:( I'm so sorry your family is going through this. Cancer is such a terrible thing.

What a great mom!

:scared1:

I'm in spring cleaning mode. It feels so good to declutter!

Anyone have any great new recipes to share? I've got two new ones I'm off to post on the BL/WISH recipe thread right now!...................P

Morning all!

QOTD for Thursday, March 14, 2013:

If you could be on a reality TV show, which one would it be? Why?

DH and I would be on Amazing Race. It looks like so much fun. Although, we have an understanding. He drives, I navigate :rotfl2: He gets lost finding our car at the mall. Oh, and he eats anything nasty. I just can't do nasty food/drinks!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I'm at work and have a meeting in 10 minutes, so I am going to run & get prepared! I'll try to check in later. If not, have a great night!
The Voice. I like to sing.
I've gained the past two days. Just little gains. Still on a downward trend though. The new weight system I use tracks the ups and downs and does a trend line to find your "true weight".
Sigh.
Off day today. Again.
Pam-Good point about the ToT. I think it's the fact that all you have to hold on to is a bar or what feels like a wimpy seat belt. At least by jumping out of a plane, I'd be strapped to somebody else!:thumbsup2 So at least if I go, I"m taking someone with me! Hahaha!!:lmao::lmao: (I always like to see the positive side of things!:rotfl2:). And don't sweat the updates: I can't figure out Excel to save my life, so I feel your pain!:scared1:
I will admit I double check the seatbelt on TOT several times before we leave the station!!
Thanks for your understanding!
QOTD: I don't really watch much reality TV, but if I had the chance, I would go on Alpha Dogs on Nat Geo. It's not exactly "reality" TV, but I know the guy who owns Von Liche Kennels in Indiana, and just to be able to work with such amazing dogs all day, I would be in HEAVEN!!!:love::yay::woohoo:
Never heard of it.
Oh my goodness! How terrifying! We taught our kids a plan in case of a fire. One day, I was cooking and the stuff (I don't even remember what it was) spilled over & burned on the burner. Needless to say, my smoke detector went off. DS6 ran down the hallway yelling "Get out. There's a fire." I had to stop him from sprinting out the front door! I was so proud. Then we reviewed where to meet. I'm glad your neighbor & her family are safe and sound!
My DS STILL talks about the time several years ago that I forgot about a pizza box in the oven and then turned on the oven to preheat it.... and when I opened the door, the box was in flames! I grabbed the box with an oven mitt and ran it out to the driveway and doused it with the hose. In hind sight the smart thing would have been to leave it in the oven, shut the oven door, and turn off the oven. It would have burned itself out safely I suppose.
We actually had to disconnect the smoke detector on the first floor because I was setting it off EVERY TIME I made dinner!!:laughing:
DD went ziplining in Costa Rica over the rainforest.... she got wet and muddy and loved EVERY MINUTE of it!!:thumbsup2
We watch that show together as a family and have talked about who would run it... what combo of us would work best. DH and I would probably KILL each other!! :lmao: DS and I might do okay, but we both have the same fears (heights). DD and I would have fun and it would be an amazing adventure, but we MIGHT end up fighting if we got overtired.
NICE!! Have you ever considered doing the American Idol experience at Disney Hollywood Studios???
Good news!!! With a calculator, paper, pencil, and DH's help, I got page one updated!!!!
The bad news is that we have many, many friends not reporting in. Please check the list. If I missed you, LET ME KNOW!! If I made a mistake with your percentage, LET ME KNOW!!
Off to do something productive. I am deciding to take the day OFF of working out. I shouldn't because I'm not sure when I'll fit in workouts over the weekend.... but BOTH knees have been feeling a bit "tweaky" lately and I want to prevent injury!! I might find a few minutes to grab some hand weights and work on that for a bit, but no cardio, squats, lunges, etc.
Pam sending you some more well wishes on your uncle. :hug:
As you know I am living it now. Did he have blockages or surgery? Heart damage is typical with a heart attack. My dh has damage to the lower end of his heart. The cardiologist said that it is not something delibilitating for him and he will get better as he is young (45). If he were older this would be much worse on the recovery aspect.
My dh is hanging in there. He still is pretty anemic and depressed but I think he is turning a corner, although he had a rash on his hand last night. Ugh. It might be from the statin meds. :sick: He does not tolerate them at all. Getting his cholesterol under control is his hardest task.
------
Now on a lighter note.:angel:
As far as the QOTD, I would like my own reality TV show where they run body scans, tests, blood work, and so forth and then teach you how to eat, drink, exercise, shop, live healthy mentally and financially for "optimal health".
Essentially I would like to be a lab rat. I would call it "The Cleanser".
You could have drop in guests, like Dr. Oz, Dr. Drew, The Dalia Lama, Oprah, Suze Orman, etc...
Anyone who can help you free yourself from your haunts, financial traps, and medical issues.
:laughing:
Thanks for the good thoughts. My Uncle is on the elderly side..... if I am correct, I believe he is about 80.... but very young at heart. He is an interesting man. He worked in radio for many years when I was younger and played Santa for the radio call-in shows during Christmas time. When I was young, we would call in to him.... when I was older, we would listen, FASCINATED that we actually KNEW the guy who was Santa on the radio!
Keep working on getting the cholesterol down and hopefully once it is down and under control, maybe you can keep it that way with a good diet! Glad he is hanging in there. Since the alternative isn't good, I guess there is no choice but to hang in and keep a smile on your face, right??
WOW! I love your idea!! I'll be on it too!!!
Lunch is eaten and cleaned up and it is time to hit the shower. I've got about 6 minutes until the pasta for dinner is done cooking and I will head upstairs. I needed some thing that I could pack for DD for dinner and something quick and easy for DS to have as well, since I won't be here with him. I will make myself a sandwich or grab a frozen (organic, vegetarian, low fat) burrito. DD and I will be eating between Y time and getting to the high school for the play, so it needs to be something portable... plus DD loves pasta and we don't have it very often, so a thermost full of whole wheat spaghetti with sauce will hit the spot! DH will have to have sardines or eggs.
I only got about HALF of the stuff done today that I wanted/needed to get done.... but at least page one is caught up and that is off of my shoulders for today anyhow!!:lmao:
Rose is taking over tomorrow as coach, so I expect you will all hear from her sometime tomorrow with a QOTD! I probably won't have time to pop on here again today! TTYL..............P
I'm sorry that I am being SO LAME about it. I guess I didn't think about the math involved before I jumped in and offered to hostess. Please don't go away because of this. I noticed that the thread has been really slow lately and I'm afraid that folks aren't actively participating because I haven't been keeping up with the results.
Don't be so hard on yourself--I wouldn't have a clue. I just don't have any training on the subject so I don't think I would attempt it. Plus math just isn't my strongest point either. Lol the other night I was mad 'cause the husband was hinting that Misty might have got knocked up the day she slipped out on me so I counted the calendar days with my finger and at the end triumphantly announced well-- we have had her 48 days and she had to have been pregnant at least 2 weeks when we got her. So he looks at me and says-- well then-- she's due tonight? Completely threw me. We decided if she has kittens while we're in Portland this weekend we'll drive back down to make sure things are ok then drive back up lol.
The closet cleaning went well--it wasn't bad in there at all. Took some shelves and my old bike over to my daughter and didn't get any exercise at all but I'm back down today. So I'm going to go have a great work out and ride my bike to work. As impatient as I am for the kits to be born, I am really enjoying feeling them move around. They seem to respond to my voice too. I did some more reading and found out first litters are often as late as 71 days.
Reality show?
I know I'm not big enough but I'd love to be on biggest loser, even if just for a week or 2.
Hi pjlla
You missed me off, I've lost 3lb of the 7lb I set myself for March, so that's 43% so far. Will weigh again in the morning, but not looking too good for this week!!!! (If you need help with the math just shout...I'm good with Excel!)
Sorry I've been MIA, been really busy for the last couple of weeks. Finally finished my university assignment, so feel as free as a bird!!!!
Work is a madhouse at the moment too, and my trade uion stuff (just been re'elected to my regional and national positions) so feel like I'm coming home from work, eating then going straight to bed!!
Fingers crossed that the kitties come AFTER your weekend away!!
I agree.... just a week or two on BL ranch would be FUN (sort of ;) )!
SO sorry!!! I'll get it corrected immediately!! The kids and DH could all help me with Excel, but I haven't had any time with them lately... and honestly, I HATE having DH teach me stuff.... it isn't his specialty.
Busy, busy!! Glad you got that last assignment turned in and off your shoulders!!
Evening all !! Slight change of plans, so I ended up with a bit of additional time here at home this evening and I spent it making a nice dinner for DH and I to share... asian-style stirfry with organic skinless/boneless chicken thighs, onions, red bell pepper, green beans, celery,and broccoli. Finished off with a small drizzle of toasted sesame oil and soy sauce.
Off to fix my mistake, eat, and head out again!................P
Hey everyone!! Hope you are all having a great night!
The hospital was crazy last night! No time for Dis fun, but at least I just have one more night & then I get a night off. :hyper:
The good news is I have stuck to my diet and actually managed a workout every night!!! :cool1:
I just wanted to pop in and say "Hi" and will have time to check out the boards more tomorrow. Have a great night all!!! :wave2:
Hi! I'm Rose and I will be your coach for the week. :)
For those who don't know me--I am 45, Mom to a college senior, and married to my college sweetheart. I have fought my weight in one form or another for most of my life, though in retrospect a lot of it was in my head. I was a very healthy, thin weight in high school, but of course still thought I was 'fat'. Lots of issues, what can I say.:thumbsup2
Anyhow, when my DS went to college I was sad and miserable and didn't feel well. I hadn't felt well for years. I went back to work and in January 2010 joined the BL thread. I had lost and regained the same 20-30 pounds so many times, but always got to a point where I didn't feel well and then gained it back. This time I was determined to stick it out.
In Jan 10 I weighed 189. I went to maintain in Sept at 147, and kept going. By Feb of 11 I was down to 137--2 pounds from my hs weight, and sick. My hair was falling out in clumps (my stylist told me I was going bald), I was exhausted, and I had so many health problems that I was just living with including a weird heartbeat that sent me to the cardiologist. This was kind of a pattern for me and losing weight, but this time I didn't gain it back. I went to my doctor and I now know that I have severe gluten intolerance--I will never have a c-d diagnosis because I gave up gluten before having a biopsy, but I did have alternative testing which indicates that I probably do have c-d so I behave like I do and strictly avoid all gluten. I have gained back about 14 pounds, my hair is growing back, my heartbeat is back to normal and most of my other issues have resolved themselves. I am happy to feel healthy.
And while I would like to lose about 5 pounds or so, if this is the weight I stay at, then I am happy. :goodvibes
So I feel like I have seen a lot through this journey. :) My body really fought to hold onto the weight when I was sick. The malnutrition from the gluten issues really did a number on me when I was losing, but it seems to be under control now.
Losing weight is hard work!! But I am here to tell you that it is so worth it. It is so much easier to 'listen' to your body when you are a healthy weight.
I will be cheering for everyone to have a good week! :cheer2:
QOTD Friday, March 14
This a repeat from the past, but I am going to throw it out there.
Quick, you just left work late, you have 20 minutes to get dinner ready before you have to (fill in the blank--get your kids to practice, make it to a meeting, etc) what's for dinner?
Two rules: no fast food and it must contain at least one vegetable and one fruit or two vegetables.
Thank you to Pamela for coaching the first two weeks!
I am so sorry the excel spreadsheet is challenging. I am an excel geek and put everything on excel--me fitness/weight data, my meal planning, my disney plans, etc. So I always assume everyone loves it as much as me.:goodvibes
I will be back in the morning with replies. :goodvibes
Quick reply and a quick question.
Yes I see a chiropractor and he is a godsend!! I love him and he kept me upright and walking with my last 3 pregnancies. I had severe sciatica and he rescued me from my car numerous times because I couldn't get out on my own.
However, he is extremely gentle! I won't see the other 2 Drs in the office because they are more aggressive.
Question for those on MFP.
As you lose weight, how often do you readjust calories? I'm down almost 20 pounds since starting MFP and I haven't changed my calorie intake. Should I? My weight is coming off slowly but I think it's more of a lack of exercise than diet. Although my diet can use a little tweaking.
My current meal allotment is 310 calories for meals and 105 for each snack. 310 is not a lot to play with but I can cut back in the snack area if need be.
