We are finishing 2013 strong with a successful December!

Welcome to WISH Away the Pounds - the last month of a successful WATP year!

Whether you are new to these threads or are a return visitor – everyone is welcome! Please read the complete instructions in post 2, and then let me know if you have any questions.

The philosophy behind our new challenge: small achievable goals. One month at a time, one week at a time, one day at a time, one bite at a time.

Results will be posted as a % lost (pounds) towards monthly goal.

Thanks to Rose&Mike for creating our new challenge format which has been a great success since January! :thanks: And thank you to all the previous hosts who have kept the challenge going since then.

How the challenge works:
This is the new and improved challenge that replaces the BL challenges. Like the show has evolved, so have our challenges and this format takes the best of that long standing tradition and makes it even better! ::yes::

The goal of the new challenge is to meet your weight loss/maintain goals on a monthly basis. Results will be posted as percentages toward goal and your color will change as you approach your goal, similar to the exercise thread on the WISH boards. It is the hope that this new format will encourage some great discussions about weight loss, maintaining, diet, exercise and healthy living!

It is up to the hostess each month as to whether she wants to have coaches/Question of the day, mini-challenges, etc. It is her month, so she can choose to handle it how she wants.

Here is how the new challenge will work. It is going to be a monthly individual challenge. Each month is a new start. You are competing against yourself to meet your goals for the month. No one will know your actual weight (unless you share it) except the hostess for the month. NO GOAL IS TOO SMALL.

Let me repeat: NO GOAL IS TOO SMALL. A loss is a loss is a loss. Your color will change based on your % lost toward goal.

On December 1st you will pm Flossbolna (hostess for December) your starting weight AND your goal for the month. On December 1, December 6, December 13, December 20, December 27 and finally on December 31 you can pm Flossbolna an updated weight. On Monday nights the thread will be updated with percentage toward goal.

Here is an example of what the stats will look like.

Updated December 13, 2013
Minnie Mouse 25.00 %
Daisy Duck 12.00 %
Goofy 0.00 %
Donald Duck 33.33 %
Mickey Mouse 40.00 %

Weight Loss Goals:
10%, orange
25% bright pink
50% purple
75% turquoise
90% red--ALMOST THERE!
100%WISH green

In this case Goofy, put on a few pounds, but that will be reported as 0%. We are not going to call people out, but just report positive moves towards your goal!

Minnie Mouse had a starting weight of 110 with a goal of 4 pounds. At her weigh in she reported a weight of 109 with a percentage loss of 25%.

Your color will change based on your % loss. If you gain, your percentage will decrease, and your color will change, but no one will know your weight except the hostess. Only your % loss toward goal will be reported. Negative percentages will not be reported

Participants (other than the hostess) will not know your pound lost goal or actual weight unless you choose to share it with them.

Maintainers will set a goal for the month of number of weeks they would like to stay in maintain range (+/- 4 pounds).

They will weigh in on the first day of the month and then on each of the weekends. Their results will be reported as percentages along with their goal.

For example:
Pluto 1/4 25%.

Pluto has a goal of maintaining all four weeks. He put on 1 pound at the first weigh in, but is in his maintain range.

Maintainer Goals
25% bright pink
50% purple
75% turquoise
100%WISH green

It really is pretty simple. Remember, no one will see your weight or pound loss goal except the hostess unless you choose to share it.

Percentage loss will be updated once a week. If you miss sending in your weight over the weekend, no big deal, just send an update the following weekend. Please understand that this is a volunteer job and the hostess will only be updating once a week.

Hopefully I have answered all of your questions.

Good luck! I look forward to seeing everyone meet their healthy living goals!

Here is our new December home!!

A few of you have already emailed about coaching, did not have time to add that yet, will do that tomorrow!

But we still have a number of coaching positions open! Coaching can be great to keep you on track during the difficult Christmas cookie time!! It is only five days, so not a huge commitment, but it might be what helps you through all the temptations!!

Send me a PM if you are interested!

Yay! I'm here :)

Thanks for hosting and I will be PMing you shortly.

Jill

I have to return as well because I need to lose some of what I found on last month's cruise! Happy to start a new month!

I'm in for December.....need some help as November was really hard for me and I keep falling of the wagon!!!! Had a weekend of eating out, really hard to justify the cake in Starbucks yesterday, but I ate it anyway!!! Got to get my act back together to see myself through to the end of December.......feeling like even a maintain between now and 31st Dec will be a challenge!!!

At least I am still running...going to do 5K at the gym tonight before slimming class.......got to try and limit the damage somehow!!

Good morning all! :santa:

I have to return as well because I need to lose some of what I found on last month's cruise! Happy to start a new month!

Vacation pounds happen -- the important thing is to get right back on track as you have! ::yes::

Hope you had a fabulous time! Can't wait to hear all about it. :cool2:

This is a tough season to stay on track for sure, Helen. :santa: You've had a banner year and I know that you can keep it up. :thumbsup2

We are back from our Thanksgiving travels. It was fun but we are glad to be back home. :goodvibes Thanksgiving in a box was a one and done but it did help to keep the mayhem to a minimum. :rotfl:

The big news for me was the 10k that I did on Thursday. First time ever sub 16 mm in a race. princess: Took 15 minutes off my PR. :yay: The secret to running fast for me is apparently running in 28 degree temps. :scared1:

Saw this in my sparkpeople mail this morning:

It's easy to make excuses not to exercise or to eat junk food. But remember what happens when you overcome those excuses: You get closer to a happier, healthier, fitter you. A year from now, do you want to be in the same place, or do you want to be able to look back on how far you've come? Every time you overcome an excuse, you're one step closer to your goal!

I am SOOOOOO in!
cookie season?

HA! I eat cookies for breakfast.... er... I mean, I'm NOT gonna eat cookies for breakfast!

I'm in! I vanished in a busy November and gained a few...then lost a bit over Thanksgiving (miracle). DH and I are going away December 14-20, so I may be a half-timer this month, but I need you guys! ;)

I'm in! I'm knee deep in princess training and while it's going well, my weight has seriously plateaued. I need a kick start it again this month to get some more weight off the old knees.

Hi I am in for Dec but decided to be a maintainer.. We have lost a car due to a deer accident (my son hit a 140 lb 6 point buck on Tuesday 11/26 on the way home from Hockey practice) so we are down to one car for 3 people so Zumba and Hooping class are a no go for me till I get the car fixed.. HOWEVER it only had Liability so all repairs are out of pocket right at Xmas/K1 time NOT good for the pocketbook.. but my son is OK! that is what really matters.. anywho I'll be back tomorrow to check the updates, I was off last week from work and my desk is a MESS.. LOL.. PMing my starting weight now..
Michelle

Watch out, she's back! :scared1: Hi ladies! :wave2: Things have calmed down just enough that I can actually catch my breath for just a second. :scared: My weight has definitely plateaued and I SO need to get back on the wagon with the Donald Half coming up in January. Plus, seeing as I hit 46 today (OMG REALLY?!! Where the heck did THAT come from?!?! :faint:), I can't think of a better time to jump back into the swing of things. :thumbsup2

Thanks Mag for coaching this month! :flower3:

How was everyone's Turkey Day last week? The Wonder Mutt spent the ENTIRE afternoon jumping into our friend's pool. And I mean ENTIRE afternoon! Wish I could siphon on just some of her energy!

Hey there, Hi there, Ho there! And so we are off and running for the LAST month of the year! Unbelievable!!

HUGE WTG and cheers to those of us who have participated in EVERY SINGLE monthly challenge this year! Give yourself a round of applause!

And another HUGE bravo to those who maybe haven't been here all year, but have been working hard and posting consistently since they joined.

And a final WOOHOO to those who have been back and forth with us.... here when they can be, absent when they can't be, but who NEVER GIVE UP!

We are all WINNERS (or maybe LOSERS, depending on how you want to think about it! :rotfl: )!!

I am here now, but need to dash off again shortly. I planned a bunch of errands and stuff today and probably overextended my schedule! Hopefully I'll get it all done!

Eating is right back on plan, of course, but the exercise hasn't returned..... but the weather reports for the week look good and I am definitely hoping to get outside for some walking and running before winter hits hard!

Off to check on the QOTD and then get moving!........P

SO sorry that you have to start your holiday season with a big bill, but SO GLAD to hear that your son is okay! Maybe you could find someone to carpool with for the exercise class?? Perhaps you could find a vocational school that offers auto repair and could get it done just for the cost of parts??

Have fun cleaning up your desk.:sad2:

Wow... a T.giving loser? That's great!

I am SOOOOOO in!
cookie season?

HA! I eat cookies for breakfast.... er... I mean, I'm NOT gonna eat cookies for breakfast!

My DD wants to do a bunch of baking when home for Christmas break... and I told her she needs to limit herself to maybe just TWO batches of cookies and we are going to give them all away!

Good morning all! :santa:

But how was the "splurge" meal the next day????? Maybe you posted about on the November thread and I missed it.

You can do it! You can finish the year STRONG! You've done SO WELL this year and can be ready for a great 2014. Good job keeping up with the running. Now clean out the fridge and pantry, plan your meals for the next several days, fill your favorite water bottle, and GO!

I have to return as well because I need to lose some of what I found on last month's cruise! Happy to start a new month!

Hope the cruise was delightful!!

I'm here, excited for a new month full of such wonderful times! :santa:

It will be a fun month... but full of calorie landmines! We will have to tread carefully and help each other out!

Yay! I'm here :)

Thanks for hosting and I will be PMing you shortly.

Jill

Glad you are joining us again Jill!

Okay... I don't see a QOTD posted, so maybe we don't have a coach yet? I'll post a QOTD myself now, but if we have an official coach, feel free to disregard it! Don't want to stop on any toes!................P

Unofficial QOTD for Tuesday, December 3, 2013:

What kind of a cook are you??

A. I ALWAYS use a cookbook/recipe to do everything except boil water.

B. I use a recipe for a main course, but I can wing it for almost everything else.

C. I NEVER use a recipe and don't own a cookbook.... I fly by the seat of my pants in the kitchen!

D. Cook? What's that? My cookbook cupboard is full of take-out/take-away menus and the local pizza shop is on speed dial!! I use my oven to hide Christmas gifts in!!

E. Other (please explain).

I am most definitely an A. I figure the experts hammered out all the flaws to the recipe, so it should turn out ok. DH is a C, he makes up stuff on the fly and it always turns out good. I wish he were home more because when he worked from home he cooked a lot more.

Ugh, weighed in this morning and I an back up to 173.4, I was down to 169 at one point. I need to stop grazing!! I hate this cold and dreary weather, it keeps me inside and when DS and DH start a fire I want to do nothing but sit in the living room and eat.

I sent a PM

Just throwing everything out there!

My goal is to be under 150 pounds by the new year!

I'm at 156 currently.

WISH me luck! I started in August at almost 180 pounds so this is huge for me.

I feel more responsible if I'm just honest and open with my numbers. :hippie:
