Wisdom tooth extraction

I've already cancelled 2 appointments but the time has come to have my wisdom tooth taken out. I'm having it done tomorrow under local anaesthetic.

Has anyone else had this done? Will it hurt? Will I need time off work after?

My husband has had 2 of his removed & has just told me to stop being a big baby about it. Very helpful!

I had this done 4 years ago.

The extraction was more painful than other dental work and afterwards I felt very bashed about. Mine were quite tricky to take out as the root was hooked.

I drove myself home (6 miles) afterwards and was glad of copius tissues in the car to mop up the blood. By the time I got home I wasn't bleeding any more but just running upstairs was enough to start the wound bleeding again.

After a couple of hours rest I had no more bleeding but I took it easy for the rest of the day.

Unfortunately I had more problems with an infection in the socket a few days afterwards than with the actual extraction.

So yes it is painful but if it needs to be done it's worth it. If you have an active job I'd say take half a day off but if you're desk based you might not need to.

I have to say I am dreading it but the thought of no more infections afterwards keeps me going!

I'm having it done late tomorrow afternoon so hopefully I'll be ok for work on Wednesday.

I had all 4 of mine removed under general anesthesia, since all 4 were impacted and growing straight forward, thus messing up the beautiful orthodontia my parents forked over so much money for when I was a pre-teen... I remember very little about the surgery, just wheeled me in, knocked me out, and woke up groggy and with tons of cotton packed into my mouth. They had me on some nice pain killers, so I didn't hurt too much. Just make sure you take care of the wound properly, or else you'll get dry sockets, and have to go back to the doctor. Thankfully it didn't happen to me, but I've heard it's quite painful. Good luck!!

Ok first and foremost I'm terrified of the dentist.

However I had to have a wisdom tooth out in January and was pertified. (my new dentist is lovely and assured me I would be fine, she actually puts me at ease in the chair).

They had a look at the hospital and gave me a few choices as to what leave of unconsious I would want. I CHOSE only injections to numb the area, I have no pain threshold. On the day I had 4 injections and then he began. As my tooth was wedged, twisted and 1/4 out in was a bit of a fight. It felt weird to have so much pushing and yanking around but after about 8 minutes he said the next 30 seconds would be bumpy and to keep my head still. Then it was out. I felt a bit bashed and a little fragile but on the whole quite chipper. I was told to wrap it up warm (jan when I had it out) and rinse with the foulest mouthwash on the planet called Corsen or something like it. I had 4 stitches and no facial bruising. It hurt like hell when anithetic wore off - use red nurofen.

Bled alittle the first night but it was fine.

You be ok just get plenty of red nurofen.

I had 3 taken out a few years ago under general anaesthetic & I had no problems at all.
They were taken out in the afternoon and I was allowed home after a few hours. Felt a bit bruised & my jaw ached from being stretched open, but apart from that fine.

I took the next day off but apart from being careful what I ate everything went very well

Hello,

I had one out 2 years ago - it was a bit odd feeling someone mangling my mouth about (like others the root was funny and would not come out without a great deal of persuasion!)

It didn't hurt though due to the local anasthetic, and I drove straight back to work after the dentist finished with me (and what an atractive sight I was too with my swollen face and bloody tissues!!)

Well, had it done yesterday afternoon and have to say it wasn't as bad as I expected but took a lot longer than I thought it would (25 minutes), something to do with an awkward root!

Feel a bit delicate today and my mouth tastes horrible but I've made it in to work. Just got to hope now that I don't get an infection in it!
