Hi...staying at BWV's next week and i got the bright idea to buy a d-link pocket router to make my netbook wirless :surfweb:...i was just reading the manuel and i'm LOST:eek:! Can anyone walk me through it in SIMPLE laymans terms..it says it can be used in client router or Ap mode and I don't have a clue what that means...it also talks about changeing ip adress...i know i have to plug the ethernet cable into it instead of my laptop...but beyond that I"m :scared1::confused3 and help would be great..last year was tough strecthing cord out on the deckand I would love to be wireless. On another dumb question note...I'm alredy wirelss at home...is there any way i can test the conection of the d-link at home or will my belkin get in the way?

THANKS
Lori

I got this same router last year for our WDW trip and it was plug and play, nothing to set up.

You can try it at home. Just unplug your home router and plug this one in. Your laptop should see it and you should be able to connect.

I believe I have the same router (and the same trouble as the OP). (Though I am trying to get it to work with my iPhone).
There is a switch on the back that has AP, Client or RT settings.
Which setting do you have your router set on?

You would want it set to 'RT' for Router Mode. From the d-link website:
In Router mode, the DWL-G730AP can be used to share a single broadband Internet connection, such as in a hotel room. The internal DHCP server automatically assigns IP addresses to ensure everyone in the room can connect to the Internet. In addition, the DWL-G730AP supports VPN Pass-through and firewall features including Network Address Translation (NAT) and MAC filtering to protect your wireless network from malicious attacks.

We have one of those. Here's pretty much exactly what we did:

1) Get to Disney
2) Open package for first time
3) plug power cable in wall and in back of router
4) plug internet cable in wall and in back of router
5) turn on laptop
6) hmmm, doesn't work
7) flip switch on back of router from where it was to some other position
8) hey, it works

Manual? Included software? Understanding? Who needs those!

Of course, the computer experts here will explain that I didn't set up all the security features and am taking a security risk. Maybe. But it's not like I'm filing my taxes or anything. The default protection in place is good enough for me.
