We are staying in a Grand Villa next week at Jambo. Can anyone tell me if there is wireless internet in the grand villa and if there is a charge for it?

Thanks!

So Excited to get back Home!

:banana::banana:

There is no wireless, only wired.

It is free for DVC members staying on points.

Cash guests pay $9.95 for 24 hours of continuous access.

Cool thanks - is there cabling in the room or do I need to bring my own?

Thanks again

There will be a cable - it's usually in a bag, hanging in the closet. BUT it's pretty short. With a GV, you might want to bring your own long cord or bring your own wireless router and create your own wireless network in the Villa.

You would think that given the shear quantity of threads about this, and the numerous detailed responses in those threads, this would be worthy of a "sticky", wouldn't you? :confused3

Is internet access free even if you are renting points?

Free internet is a perk only for DVC members and their guest, not renters. Sometimes the member making the reservation for you will forget to tell member services that you are a renter, then your KTTW will have the annotation, "DVC Member" then you might get free internet.

I didn't know about the renter distinction on a ressie, thanks. I will have to do that in the future

There is one - but it's stuck to the top of the Resorts board. I think it has DVC info in it as well.

Why would a Member tell MS this? What's the advantage? IMHO, if someone is renting from me I'd want them to have all the benefits. Isn't it up to MS to realize that the renter is not a member if they want to make that distinction?

Technically, if the person staying in your room is your "guest" (non-paying), they are entitled to benefits, where a person "renting" (paying) is not. From what I've heard, MS doesn't really care. People on this board make more of a big deal about it.

Soooooo.......... what if you're a member renting points? ;)

How technically difficult or not is it to add a wireless router to the original hotel's ethernet connection port? Would you still have to sign in to the Disney menu via ethernet before you try this arrangement. (The Disney Sign Into Wifi Screen).

Maybe I should just visit Best Buy and ask some advice on this one.
If this were a simple thing to do, and a very portable router were available, this would be a nice way to get wireless in a hotel that only offers ethernet.

Many people say they do this seamlessly. We have had more trouble - we're probably only 50/50 on getting our Airport Express to work in the room for what seem to be various reasons. For us, it's never that simple, but the last few times we got it to work. Others say it's plug and play.

Don't know what the difference is except that it does state that your guests are entitled to some of the perks but renters are not. It's just like the rule that you can rent point but cannot receive payment for any points that are transferred. What's the difference? But I do know that MS gets real excited (and threatens to suspend your membership) if you mention you are getting paid for transferred points.

I don't honestly know "what the difference is", but we did agree to those terms when we signed our names to the purchase agreements, and it is in the POS. So, technically, if Disney did find that someone is a renter and you failed to inform them, they do have grounds for some sort of action.

As Chuck said, it is in our purchase agreement. Technically, the room is being reserved by you in your name. You are responsible for it, so it would seem to me too that perks should stick. However, I imagine if management found out that this was a for money rental, you might find yourself stuck with $9.95/day charged to the room you reserved in your name. Maybe not likely, but very possible.

Thanks for your reply Vicki.

I got excited when I read about this technology, so I started researching Travel Routers online, and found a variety of them, some from like under $50 to way more.

The Airport Express seemed the more reliable choice, especially if you want to use an Apple IPAD or ITOUCH with WIFI.

Personally I am crossing my fingers that Apple would come out with an IPOD TOUCH WIFI with 2 cameras for wifi video FACETIME this September on the new model. If they do, I will want this device as well as the Airport Express.

It would be nice to stop bringing my laptop to Disney, and just use the combination of an Airport Express with a new generation IPOD or IPAD for free wireless under that combination.

I can hear others saying why don't you just get an IPHONE.
Sorry, don't want the monthly ATT contract that goes with it !
The money you save could pay for a new net book and more every year.

I really want an iPad! But for now, we use the Airport Express without MacBook, and we have iPhones as well. If you decide to do the Express route - just Google for some set up instructions - that's what we did the last few times and it worked fine for us - I'd share the ones I found but I don't know where I put them! Even though we have phones, we still bring the laptop anyway for d/loading photos and it's just easier to do Internet stuff on the laptop than on the phones.
